    Hi all,

I tried to install the 1070 only to get this...

I haven't even installed the drivers yet. I did notice one of the X clamp mounts came unstuck from the gpu too.

    Shame. DOA.

Now my interest in doing SLI has gone down the toilet.

EDIT: thankfully the 980 DT still works. Also, even though there was a board change it reactivated my win 10 licence :D

@woodzstack any advice about what i can do?

probably better i don't attempt an SLI upgrade (as much as i hyped it up). means i could get a PS4 pro LOL

EDIT: I see that the replacement card is marked as Schenker and not clevo/kapok.

    ASCI quality - 72.9%.

i said no drivers were installed and it's definitely a hardware problem since it happens even with the boot screen.

Do you have the mod wire and have you tried modified drivers?

It has the mod wire. Modded drivers won't make a difference since the UEFI boot screen also suffers from it.

Oh yeah, it was all the way in.

Woodzstack thinks it could just be a clash between the gsync panel and the vbios.

Have you tried other video modes: lower res, lower/higher refresh? external screen?

Have you tried drivers (or is it too hard to read whats on the screen)

I have said that drivers would not help because it happens as soon as I press the power button. That means the metabox logo that appears before Windows loads also suffers from the same look as in the pic.

So I know for sure that it isn't a driver issue because I reinserted the 980 and it works.

I may try an external display if I have the correct vbios to flash.

No harm ever came from a driver uninstall, setting clean, and reinstall. It may correct what is glitching, or it might just be the display mode and changing it might not have the corruption.

And I just read that the MSI 1080 is power gimped to 150W, no connector. Forget that one before even knowing a price.

i've gotten some suggestions from @j95 and @woodzstack about what the heck is going. one involves tweaking the UEFI settings and another involves flashing the GPU.

I'll give it a try once my spare tubes of ICD7 arrive.

    Hey guys,

I currently have the stock 16GB of ram that eurocom sends out with the P870dm-g. Thinking of buying another stick of 16GB. I know it is not ideal to mix ran but do you guys see any potential issues with mixing ram types?

Not the big problem with normal 2233MHz ram sticks. Maybe a problem if you have high end ram sticks with better specifications.

Should be fine it you get ram that has the same speeds and timings really. Getting different speeds of ram will result in it going to the slower speed between whatever you have installed. Plus, mis-matching ram can give an increase in things like blue screens. I would try to find out what ram is in the system, and look for that first if possible, but it isn't the end of the world if they aren't exactly the same (but still similar).

    Hello everyone.

As we have often discussed the subject with many others 870 DM owners, i'm still angry about CLEVO:

I bought my Evoc Prema Mod 980 GTX 200 W in July to discover ( a few weeks and 3500 $ later ), with the DM3

form factor, that upgradability was a word that had disappeared from CLEVO's dictionary...

I had a little chat tonight with ted K from Hidevolution about a future evolution to plug a 1080 GTX: no way !!!

So i grabbed my best pencil and e-mailed this little text to CLEVO TW commercial representatives.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello

I'm a french citizen, former owner of an Alienware M17Xr4. I decided to buy a CLEVO P870 DM-G in july 2016

because of its power and upgrade ability. I chose these options: 980 GTX 200W GPU, 2x 512 Gb Samsung NVMe

SSD-Raid 0 + Samsung 840 Pro 512 GB Backup, 4x8 GB RAM then ordered it to Hidevolution - EVOC USA

    priced 3500 $.

I was at first very pleased with this LAPTOP, but:

    - Your corporation has decided to produce a new DM3 form factor that has made this wonder totally obsolete

    in a four months time...

    - I ordered a CLEVO brand laptop because of your commercial policy that was upgradability ! With this new

case no way to ugrade the GPU power unit and cooling, so no further upgrade to the new Pascal 1080 GTX GPU

possible.. and don't tell me about 1070 GTX: uninteresting for a geek like me..

    - You have lost a lot of your credibility in the NoteBook Review community, a place on the internet where most

of your brand's fans are chatting...

Considering that the nude laptop with 3k 120Hz screen + 2x 1080 GTX SLI costs you about 1200 $ to mass

produce, you should think about a commercial upgrade proposal to former 870 DM owners ( that bought their

laptops to your official resellers ) for the same price, based on these resellers lists. Doing so, you loose no money,

you calm down the CLEVO community, get rewarded for this because we are your clients allready and moreover

get blessed for this nice commercial solution...

Trust is the Key word in Trade and a lot, if not all, of us were deceived and felt betrayed, crooked even...

We, your clients, are rich enough to be able to buy 3500 $ laptops but our money goes where trust is, always !

May you consider what happened to Alienware, when Dell changed its commercial and technological policy: if you

don't take care of your customers, you're the next on the list...

    Best regards

    Dr Laurent Nurit ( Ph-D )

P.S : i send a copy of this e-mail to the NBR CLEVO worldwide community, on the internet. So will i do with your

    answer !

Feel free to do the same. Let CLEVO corp. know how we feel...

And see if it is a responsible corporation !

What about a Topic of the 870 DM1 owners complain mails sent to CLEVO, to lobby and put pressure on CLEVO

corporation for a commercial offer to upgrade to the new DM3 ?

If we are numerous enough, we also could send these mails to each of our resellers to help us in this fight

We are rich enough to buy CLEVO, they depend on us too: am i right ?

    Best regards to the community.

    Stheto

P.S: the meaning of this letter was also to let them know that i would never bend

again after i got fuc..ed once ;) but written in an educated language !

Sadly most of the people who were mad about the whole thing have just moved on and bought the new systems.

Me on the other hand, done spending money on high end laptops.

    Gonna buy an Aorus next.

I think this has been done to death, and nothing's going to happen. The damage is done to Clevos rep but really when they still hold such a unique position in the big ass hi po DTR niche they can pretty much rely on the nerdrage dying down before the next buying decision.

I guess I benefitted from buying mine second hand with minor cosmetic damage for way less than half price less than a year after release, l basically want to upgrade mine out of stick-it-to-The-Man bloody mindedness, but it's mixed feelings because in order to get ahold of an MXM board I'm lining The Man's pockets with an inequitable amount of cash somewhere along the line anyway, and thus perpetuating the cycle of rip off.

If I bought in July I would be rightfully annoyed but really it was no secret Pascal was coming this year. I've been there though, I bought an Asus years back with a 260M (basically a 55nm 8800GT from years earlier) a couple months before the G73JH with 5870M came out. My fault for being out of the loop and not knowing it was coming.

    That's a bit of a contradiction?

IF their systems were high end, then it would definitely be one.

RBP's or the Aorus's , dont even hold a candle against actual DTR's. MSI/ASUS laptops might come close, but they have their own quirks.

I just bought some artic silver 5 to run my tests. I tried @j95's suggestion of disabling unused links and that failed. I was able to flash the new vbios from @woodzstack and low and behold - fixed picture.

I still have the power links turned off since it's not using as much as the 980 is.

I'll keep an eye on this but so far so good.

EDIT: using J95's modded drivers and it worked.

I'm really getting sick of the heat coming through on the surface on the right side palm rest below the keyboard.

Both my GPUs have copper backplates which I think is bleeding heat through the SATA drives and especially the 840 Evo which idles hotter than the CPU @ 4.4

I think I'll switch to a cheap 1Tb M.2 like MX300 for storage and remove both drives

?? Interested to know if that is standard Pascal behaviour or a function of the vBios you've got installed. Or just a monitoring artifact

kepler and maxwell usually cruise at the top clock for a good chunk of gameplay. i am noticing it's clocking between 1.7 and 1.8GHz (or 1873MHz to be precise) so the fact that pascal runs the gamut of clock speeds it stays above the spec'd boost clock of 1643MHz.

OK so I've just schooled myself on the distinction on boost and max clocks in Pascal :) So when you report temps you need to let us know what your average clocks are at those temps.

Now I also know exactly how a AW 15 R3 with 6700HQ and 1070 can bench 10% slower than a MSI GS43 with same hardware even without overt thermal throttling. (edit: 1060 actually. Hit 90C in a review)

if i chuck the fans on full bore it averages around 60 deg Celsius, 2 screens with fans at 100% is about 85 C when in BF1. with fans at default speed it's about the mid 70s.

BF1 has the highest temps of games so far.

Hey Bruh! I got that P870DM-G with that GTX 980 graphicalness.

Every once in long while, while playing graphic heavy games like The Division, I get locked black screen and loud speaker buzz. Reset, uknown bluescreen recorded. Reading about that nonsense on the interwebs I suspect the power management, and perhaps the GPU voltage.

You bros know if it be possible to undervolt dat GTX 980 laptop GPU with like some MSI afterburners or sommat?

980m. The 980dt doesn't work because it's not contoured correctly and I saw a decent sized gap between the die and heatsink. I might need some modification like cut with a Dremel.

What on earth is your ambient? I've never seen below 32 idle with max fans with an ambient around 22.

Anyone experienced random loss of input? Can't use external keyboard, internal keyboard, mouse, nothing. Clicking/pressing just gives an audible tone.

BF1 still runs like a boss at 1440p downscaled to 1080p on ultra at 60fps.

All tests have the 6700K OC'd to 4.5GHz and the GPU with a core OC of +38 to match the desktop clocks. (though the core clock of the GPU seems to change between tests).

    Firestrike - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/16731081?
    Time Spy - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/16731677?
    Sky Diver - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/16731929?

According to notebookcheck.net my scores are besting the average clocks that they have gathered by a small margin of about 820pts in firestrike (so does that mean a +38MHz OC = 820pts??). I'll be adding more tests to it.
