Yes I agree with you, I have many laptops on my hands from time to time, I'm enjoying using many brands and technologies, but at the end if I'll own a laptop it will be a Clevo as a real DTR, but I hope that they change the design to be more attractive with better quality keyboard.
As you said, I can just wait for some time until the 11 series, or the 1080's will be more cheaper.

Just do it, no matter how, no risk specially for the i7 6700k there is nothing to worry about. You will feel the different.

If someone should be worried that should be me, believe me no need for any tools just use a shaving blade with care not to cut your fingers and not to go too deep to avoid scratching the core.

since i haven't had much issues with the 1070 (aside from having no gsync) i wonder what i can do with the 980DT?

If you are %100 satisfied and trust the 1070n, no need to keep the 980dt, try to sell it ASAP.

when delidding, do you run it without the IHS right? videos i have seen show people delidding, replacing the TIM with CLU, and then relidding.

fair enough. oh well, another tool in my toolbox.

on a side note, look at the wattage the 1070 uses. definitely more than spec'd :p

if it's enough to get me a sub-$1000 UHD HDR TV then great! LOL

should go well with the PS4 Pro i just bought.

That's how much it's specced for. The hardware can't detect and react to conditions instantly so there will be little peaks above 115.

That sounds closer to right, but you're still going to have a lot of trouble selling it because basically the only laptop you can use it in is the P870DM.

just posted the 980 DT in the for marketplace and we'll see if anyone is interested.

the concept of a "warranty" went out the window when i put the 1070 in.

There's a guy over at techinferno that told me what mods I need to do on the 980DT heatsink for it to work with the 1070.

Time to get the parts and tools.

I'm leaving the vbios to those that have the know how. For the time being this heatsink mod would be awesome in that I hope it draws more heat away.

once there's a way to mod the vbios then i'll jump on board but in the mean time i'm gonna try my hand at modding the heatsink. i've ordered the parts like the heatsinks and thermal tape and i've ordered sheets of sand paper so all i need to do is get a dremel.

Hi, since my GPU is hot... // Single 980M stock vBIOS
-82-83*c easily on normal fan mode... ambient temp 21-22*c...

I tested few thermal compounds, IC D, Grizzly Kryo... after some time every paste reaches 82*c (2-3 months) and holds 81*c after fresh repaste... When I received my notebook almost 10 months ago, I remember max temps we're under 78-79*c... with same ambient temp. and <70*c on OC profile (now 70-73*c?)
I wonder if I can improve my cooling somehow? Maybe I can stiff heatsink inside chassis not to move (only 4 screws are holding this crap)?

Or replace stock thermal-pads... but I don't think it will improve overall temps. Still... stock pads are good? Or I can improve VRM/Mosfet temps by changing them? VRMs/Mosfets got really hot and causes blackscreens after ~~100MHz core OC.

My current application method on GPU is | | lines, is it good or should I try X next time?

How effective are stock thermal pads? 3,5w? 7w?
    I want to buy: http://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/products/13-minus-pad-8-en
These are 8w . Will they be much better than stock ones?

Thermal pads won't help with core temps unless the existing ones are too thick. Check to make sure the heat sink is making good contact with the core.

Ok, now I have to choose, again TG Kryonaut or IC D7. Currently ICD7 performed good at start, but after some time it's... probably 1*c worse than TG Kryo.
Yup, I will have to check if it fits well... Maybe some thermal pad is pasted incorrectly and it's too thick... That would explain 4-3*c too much.

Hmmm if i remember... most important thermal pads were... damn 4mm? I would like to replace them, to improve VRM/mosfet temps... Max height available is 2mm...
And question is... how good are stock ones (in W/MK)? :/
I can hold 83*c without problem (but I'd like to see it much colder ofc), more important is VRM/Mosfet temps to improve OC.

Before the Kryo hating army kicks in, id say go with ICD if you "know" that your heatsink is not making proper contact or is warped.

Thermal grizzly pads are fine, I use them at the moment.

The pads performance is usually not so important if you are improving the fit anyway.

nope, just cutting and sanding. just waiting on the heatsinks from moddiy.com and amazon.com (got kinda impatient LOL) so when they arrive i should be able to install the modded heatsink.

EDIT: I'll be making updates here - https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/11137-p870dm-g-980dt-heatsink-mod-for-msi-1070/
