can you put anything above the 6700K into the P870DM-G? like the 6800K?

7700K with BIOS support. Not worth it over 6700K tho.

Actually it is totally worth it. The P870DM-G cools the 7700k better than the DM3.

For moah GHz and benches yes, but for peons like me where price/performance matters it's not compelling (I think it's almost universally accepted the last compelling single generation upgrade was P4-Core2)

Absolute best case selling a virgin 6700K to an idiot paying retail price, and buying a 7700K would be a $100 changeover cost - for approx +300MHz and 1% IPC. Realistically $150 loss... and you'd want to do it very soon before the second hand market is perhaps flooded with people upgrading to Ryzen.

Probably also more expensive for me since I've ruined resale by delidding and shoving metal all over mine

get a 1070 and ruin it even more LOL

I spoke with woodzstack about other 1070 variants and none so far that they have comes with the SLI connector. they said they had 1070s the same size at the 1060/980M but it don't have the SLI connector. if it did then i'd be all over it like white on rice!

If a 1350mhz OC with slight volt bump and sub 80C temps stays stable it may be enough for the time being.

Wish you all the best, I'll follow up closely. I think the manufacturers should do that by themselves to sell their stock from from 980dt 1070 and 1080, buy providing some kits ready for all laptops models can handle those cards, that way they can suck our money more efficient

Could be some of the thermal pads not sitting right and something other than the core over heating.

All depends if the temp has increased vs. before. Hotter heatsink will effect the heat dissipation for the pads. Most likely the pads as you said. Because 76-77C on core shouldn't effect the results. He have probably lying right under the temp limit. And the pads have been a problem on those models. See @tanzmeister's thread about pads replacement-changes.

Yep. It'll be thermal throttling at that point. So don't stress test it anymore... Check what the temp is in a game (e.g. rtss/afterburner or hwinfo).

Definitely sounds like you need to do some cooling system maintenance. Repasted, clean your fans and grilles, make sure the thermal pads are not all dry and shaggy and they're still making good contact

    Hi There
I just want to say big thanks to you guys especially to @Krileon
I have my problem solved now, and laptop is running better than before I can say, during gaming ( ultra R6S ) temp on GPU reached 62C so this gave me a lot room for overckloking. Before I couldn't even touch overclocking since new.

I did, the core contact was woeful because it had been bent along the heat pipe. I flattened that out then realised the plane of the actual heatsink was warped too and wasn't contacting the vrm pads up the back properly, when I bent the plate as well it now is all good.

This unit has been through the wars though, whether by my hand or PO or factory or warranty I dunno.

Took a hit in transit to a previous buyer which ruined the original 4K panel and dropped the price. I'll get around to fixing up the small dent and palmrest crack sometime, maybe cover it with a paint job.

I've been thinking some day of painting my car in Daytona Violet - a nice deep velvet purple the old 5 series looks awesome in IMO. But the missus says no ***** way so maybe the laptop will cop it instead

Dear Respected Members, as I promised to update you about my problem, I got my new DM1 MB yesterday from Germany @clevo-extreme (CEG-HARDCORECUSTOM), perfect, with new screws, battery and very valuable "unexpected" gift inside the box (I'll not tell what it is, you have to buy from them to know :) ) .
Finally I have my Sky X9E working again, I'm fixing this laptop for almost 6 months for different issues. All testing are done using the BIOS came with the MB, and everything seems to be fine up to now.
I'll keep update my status if there is any issues appear anytime, who knows what else might be goes wrong!? :)
Thanks for all kind members tried to help me in this problem, really appreciate.
    Regards.

    From the Clevo OC thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-overclockers-lounge.788975/page-1046#post-10476134

Can you quantify the temp improvements using the sensor readouts from HWInfo, PCH, DIMMs, SSDs?

I have started modding the machine since the day one I got it, didn't record the default temp at that time before any heat sinks added.
I just did a quick run of RealBench to compare the temperature with the added 2 fans on and off.

Environment temp is 71.4F, no AC and no laptop cooler on.
First run with added fans OFF, max system fans on, rested 5 mins before run:
    without_fans_1.jpg
Second run with added 2 fans ON, max system fans on, rested 5 mins before run; reset min and max values:
    with_fans_on_1.jpg

Negligible impact on CPU and GPU temp, but there is some good temp improvement on PCH, DIMM, and SSD (underneath the GPU).

    Nice!

    My PCH 60-80C
DIMMs 45-55C (70C memory stress test)
    M.2's idle 45C (600p hits 70C when writing a bunch of data)

Add 5-10C if I turn the notebook cooler off

My P870DM has returned from RMA.
    Got new motherboard and GPU.

This one has ASIC of 68%, last one had 78% and my first one had 79%.
And this one is much better... it's probably a bit hotter and has higher voltage (1.06v) but hold +130MHz on stock vbios all the time. :D I can feel better performance in 4K... I mean i see difference...
