Just about to remount the CPU, removed the duct tape I put over the socket while disassembled... stubbed my toe on my benchspace cabinet... @!(*$&* tiny screwdriver falls off a high shelf ... right into my LGA socket. One pin bent, one pin broken, no POST.

Dang. You can bend that back into place using a small needle / pin. Unless it's broken. Is it ?
Wait I can't even see a pin in there.

EDIT - Just read the post on the previous page. Dang that was on heck of an accident.

Yeah, that socket needs to be replaced. Hopefully you can get a local place to do it.

Finally found a guy who does BGA repairs. He's had it a week gonna ring tomorrow to see what's going on.

PS my account was wrongly banned for spam the other day, it was quickly reinstated but it looks to me like every single post and thread of mine is gone, can anybody else see any of them except when I've been quoted?

    Hey guys,

Super stupid question but I can't figure it out!

Does anyone know how to stop the laptop from powering USB devices during sleep?

I have a cooler with fans that I need to manually remove every time I put the PC to sleep and it gets frustrating!

I can't seem to find anything on the BIOS ;[

@thegh0sts did You sell Yours 980 desktop yet? There is market for that card or what? nobody with 980m want to upgrade to much better performance?

It's small cost when selling 980m and add some money to 980 desktop, and performance is much better for sure

Last week I pulled the trigger on one of these bad boys from HIDEvolution, dual 1080's with an i7-7700k and a 1440p g-sync screen. Haven't bought a clevo since my Malibal with a 680m.

I was running my 2133Mhz Hynix modules @ 2666Mhz just fine with the stock BIOS was for a while on the DM1.

I think the issue is trying to boot and (detect spd) with cleared nvram at 2666.

It ran fine at 2666 on prema bios on the old mobo. Ran fine and was stable but I could never change any options or even switch to xmp (i.e. mirroring the stock timings at 2666 in xmp = no boot)

That is weird because i booted XMP first and then just changed the multiplier and maybe 1 or 2 timings at the most. And that was on the stock BIOS.

Actually grabbed some hynix 2133 locally from a guy who just upgraded a new lappy. Still no boot.

I'm thinking the cpu is damaged... Maybe it was shorted across one of the broken pins when I tried it. Can anyone link to a lga 1151 pinout? I can't seem to find one

Many, many, many, many, many, many times
One stick two stick different slots, the works. Left it on for two hours, no change
    No screen backlight
No fans except the rare blip
Cpu heatsink gets warm and it draws ~60W from the wall when on

May as well if they work without needing any bios update?

I have no idea what bios is on the replacement motherboard

Think I'll grab a pos g4400 or something just to check it works then flip on fleabay

7700K should clock better than x46 @ 1.24V and I suspect there was always something a bit wrong with the cpu anyway with the weird iccmax/sa based throttle it always had at x45 and beyond

    Finally got 980 200W card.

What temps should I see when pushing it and what with normal usage (stock Clevo vBIOS)?
For example NVidia Pendulum GSync demo goes at full 200W blast on it (don`t know why, it`s not a looker), if I leave it running what temp will GPU reach? Should it settle at some temp value (what value for you guys?) or will climb higher and higher until thermal protection or black screen will kick in (which would point to bad cooling design on Clevo part).
Wanna compare and see if I installed and pasted/padded it correctly.

PS- any way to get Prema vBIOS for this beast now or is it a long gone option?

probably should have bought a 980 with prema's vbios and I have one just sitting in a box. or someone might still be using a 980 and can use nvflash to make a back up.

    what's this something something?

I`m still undecided whether to keep 980M SLI or 980 desktop 200W card, have both (or rather three to be precise) cards at hand so made a (very) unprofessional battle between them.

Used games are from different times, studios, engines and genres - what they have in common is that they all have their own inbuild benchmarks. All benchmarks and game inbuild benchmarks were ran three times, what you see in table are average values taken from that runs. All runs were made right one after another without any cool downs to keep temps high and expose eventual throttle. Fans at "overclock" mode, max temps: 980M Master 76C, 980M Slave 85C and 75C for 980. That delta temps between Slave and Master was always bugging me, like P870 was designed around 980 not SLI. 980Ms with undervolted vBIOS and 980 with stock vBIOS so that`s little unfair. Hardware wise and software wise everything was exactly the same except GPUs of course: benched 980Ms, used DDU, removed 980Ms, mounted 980, installed drivers again, benched 980.

So what I`m seeing here is that when SLI works with a given game, then 980M SLI are ~20% faster; with benchmarks it`s ~30% due to much better scaling and utilization. But when there is no SLI profile, 980M SLI are ~30% slower in games and ~40% in benchmarks. Looks like I`m gaining more (with no SLI games) then I`m losing (with SLI games) with 980 but can`t decide. Benchmarks performance is irrelevant for me, used them only for "science" lol.

    Thoughts?
