New to lounge so hope ok to paste random tech question here, as a bit stumped trying to fix machine. Had Eurocom X9/P870DM for last couple of years and has been great, but the other week the fans started playing up and now it shuts down after about 30 seconds. Listed below problem breakdown incase could suggest any solutions.

    1. Fans were starting to come on hard after about half an hour of playing a game, then the machine shut itself down, hence initially deciding to try and fix.
    2. Replaced the thermal paste but then fans cam on hard straight after booting, and the machine shut down after about a minute.
    3. Replaced the thermal paste with newer stock and recommended amount of paste, (think used too much in 2). Result same as 2.
    3. As SLI, tried running in single card mode but with each GPU in turn incase GPU issue. Same problem happened as 2.
    4. During 2 was able to load a Windows temperature program and temperatures seemed fine, so recon temperature problem from 1. might be fixed. Thinking maybe some fan sensor issue telling the system the fans are not rotating, when they are, so the system shuts itself down for safety sake? Could this be the case, and would there be any way to just run the system with a single gpu and single gpu fan to check each gpu fan in turn (if the sensors are located on the fans themselves)?

Please check with our Support Team - just submit Support request via our website. Meantime make sure that all of fans are clean and there is no dirt / dust inside the system preventing air flow. Repasting CPU/GPU is good idea too.

We are planning to test in P870DM our new MXM3 82x105mm GPUS gtx 1070 and 1060 that work with standard gtx 980M heatsinks. So stay tunned.

As having a fan issue at moment, should SpeedFan work on the p870, and if so have folk been able to get all three fan readings or just the CPU? At mo just getting a faulty (10M RPM), reading for the CPU fan, and no GPU fan info at all.

It's not that simple. The heatsink won't fit and the older MXM slots need to be rewired as well in order to even fire up a Clevo Pascal GPU...also the housing needs some minor modifications to even accommodate the card.

Is anyone using 3200mhz g.skill memory?
Can you please tell me the memory timing shown in bios?

And @Prema , please let your old friend try you mighty unlocked bios for p775dm3-g.
CPU is always throttling when both GPU and CPU are under load. :(

Here are some pics of Quadro P5000 installed in P870DM model. P5000 card is standard 82x105mm MXM3 spec so it fits inside P870DM without any VGA heatsink modifications, just need to re-adjust thermal pads to match the layout of the card.

Smaller cards will have more cramped components/fewer power phases, they will be somewhat harder to cool and clock. It depends how well the PCB has been routed and the quality of parts used.

What was the error message /situation encountered when you use M1000M in P870DM1?

Yeah, laptop turning itself off sounds like bios/vbios problem.

No driver installed should still boot and display desktop fine (with inbuilt Windoze compatibility driver)

Just finalized testing of standard size 82x105mm MXM3 GTX 1070 card in P870DM. See some pics below. No need to modify VGA heatsink, just thermal pads layout needs to be changes and copper shim added.

I made those special Quadro BIOS for Eurocom.
They are only for those who are purchasing the actual hardware from them and can, as per our agreement, not be obtained outside the hardware sale.

The point might have been that those are made for people who have the cards bought from Eurocom. Did you buy from them? Also, are you a reseller?

I still have to mod the MXM slot wiring to make a Clevo 1080 bootable. I have the 1080 GPU from @tanzmeister, but need to find time to pull the motherboard and do the soldering. I haven't had time. But, I will do it soon.

To run 7700K you will need a @Prema BIOS mod. 7700K is not bootable with a stock P870DM-G BIOS. That is still a work in process. It is not ready for public use. A few things need to be fixed and Prema has not had time to focus on that right now.

I have stock P870DM-G from Sager with GTX980,
I just bought a card from Ebay Quadro M4000M.
When i check bios it doesn't show "M4000M", i have display. I couldn't install the driver first,
    Then i just edit it.
For more than a year i use M4000M and i'm very happy with it.

The BIOS wont as it's not one of the standard cards and the BIOS just checks it against a list it has built in.

    Depends on your budget.

Fully loaded DM are cheap, 980dt and 980m sli still do 1080p 60z easily

From my observations the 2 extra cpu cores don't add much to gaming until you get to 1080ti levels of power. 4.5ghz+ 6700K is still powerful and will be for some time, also may be helped by dx12's more efficient use of cpu to reduce the pace of obsolescence (relative to history)

There's a hell of a lot of quad core owners still out there and it's not like devs are going to let performance on the most common hardware spec go to the dogs overnight.

A single 1080 is a pretty big step up though for any higher res/refresh rate.
