I will have a fiddle around with the cables at some point, but since its not causing any issues I may as well leave it alone. Just curious as to what is causing it.

Have you tried CC to manually turn them off/on? Also, give Obsidian's KeyboardLED app a whirl.

I've not seen anyone mention that specific card, I was trying to see if I could make out what make the VRMs are.

any updates on that particular card?

as far as i can see, this "1070" seems to be rated for 150W as opposed to the "1070M" at 115W, both by Gecube, hmmm....

I'm interested too, small factor with SLI connector, I think it's a little light at the end of the tunnel with our obsolete laptops

Mainly a single card upgrade will make the most sense. Buying two cards does tend to get questionable.

What happens if i set the Max OC ratio to 0 in the prema BIOS? I have it set to 42 because that seems to be the highest boost clock for the 6700K.

EDIT: I ask because the stock boost clock is 4.2ghz so i am just wondering if i set the OC overrides to 0 it would allow for the 4.2ghz boost to happen "naturally" rather than me locking it in manually.

My P870DM-G is now outdated for me and I'm looking to sell it. What would be the best way to sell it? Never sold anything online, especially something that weighs as much as this laptop. I have the original box and everything. Might sell an Everki backpack that I got for it as well. Hopefully I'm not posting against the rules

The members market here or a local sale tend to be the smoothest.

Cool I'll look into the members market. As for local sites would you say craigslist is good? I only sold a macbook once and it was pretty smooth. I live in California.
Can't find the members market? Could you point me to it?

hmmm.....laptop completely just cut out and the PSU light went off while in menus of a game....twice. Not sure of that means something is dying or something else because it was plugged into a power board and both times that it cut out it was plugged into the power board but this time I have it plugged in directly to a wall outlet.

EDIT: This is only a recent thing as it never happened previously before while still plugged into the power board.

Surge or short causing it, you'll have to see what might be causing it by testing like you are.

Laptop is not even booting off the battery.

I try to boot with the power plug inserted and it doesn't boot and kills the power supply light. it might be in a cooldown period cos i was able to get it back and running (for now). I can't tell if it is a component in the laptop or PSU.

Unlikely that it's random, the pattern may be room temperature, power on time, outlet used, cooling on the power brick etc.

If you're having problems booting off of battery that most likely means the problem lies elsewhere not the PSU.

I just hope it's not something in the laptop itself because first instance happened on a wednesday then again on sunday at roughly the same time at about or after midnight.

I couldn't see any components on the board that were noticably broken or smell anything burnt so i am at a loss as to where the cause is. maybe it's the power grid being weird.

I'll keep an eye on it because after a while it does boot up again with the battery installed.

hmmm.....still can't figure out what is causing it and it's becoming a royal pain the arse.

after it randomly shuts down it causes the PSU light to turn off. pressing the power button causes the indicator lights to turn off then the PSU light turns off.

it takes a bit of time for the laptop to "gather itself together" so and when it does it functions normally.

ambient temp has been pretty consistent and it seems to only happen during the evenings / late night.

first was wednesday 7-Nov (happened twice),
second was on sunday 11-Nov after midnight,
    3rd was tuesday 13-Nov at about 10pm and 11pm.

At this point i feel like buying a new laptop in 2019 so i can keep gaming and do 3D modelling practice.

It seems like it presents the brick with a short so it could be a vrm on the way out. It needs a professional to investigate at this point.

I dunno who I can take it to because:

    1. I made heavy modifications and
    2. I am not in the country of purchase

Not to mention I'll be computer-less and unable to do anything when it is out of commission...urgh!

Something very similar happened to my lenovo z580. It would turn on only on the power brick and short it within 5 seconds of turning on. Turned out one of the mofsets on the right side of the cpu socket were blown. What's strange was if I replaced the i7 3520m with an i3 3310m the laptop booted fine. You may have a vrm issue indeed.

I still had the same issue happening but it occurred way less than before.

Lower frequencies will mean less spikes of load on the vrm stressing it less.

I'll ask @woodzstack if they can take a look and see if they see the problem cos i do and it sucks.

it happens after about maybe 8-12 hours of operating.

Part of me wants it fixed and part of me wants to just parting out the laptop to get some money back :p

I have a feeling rtx cards will be severely gimped for laptops. Only leading to minor performance increases. And we all know that msi gtx 1080 tdp can be unlocked which leads to much better performance when an overclock is applied to core and memory. Me and another user are trying to rig a vapour chamber to cool both gtx 1080s. If possible this would be a great success. I just hope each mxm slot can handle 180w to 200w!

Edit: the only reason I'm doing this is so I can get 60fps on my 4k panel at native resolution.

Well, lets see what can be done for it, and what the cause is, imagine it might be a simple fix, who knows. We'll figure it out. Could very well be like a memory issue, RAM or something small.

Hey guys, recently came across one of these with a i7-6700 and a desktop 980 for about $900. I am trying to decide if it is a good deal, and whether or not I could handle the size of this thing.

Depends on the condition and other specs (ram, storage, screen) and how you're gonna use it. The high end Clevos tend to be very robust, and great value on the second hand market due to being niche and having a lack of brand presence.

Lugging it around on your back will get old real quick but if its going to sit on a desk most of the time like the desktop replacement it is designed to be, not such an issue.

You'll also get more out of it if you are willing to service, fix and upgrade it yourself since its the best platform available on 'mobile' for that. 6700 and 980DT is still fine for 1080p.

It looks to be in pretty good condition physically, it has 16GB ram, 512GB SSD installed, and a 1080 display.
I plan to use it as a development machine. I work on graphical simulation software, and I thought it would be nice to have a machine to use when I am home for holidays/vacation, and I need to work on something, or check something out.

I do enjoy servicing, upgrading, etc. computer hardware, and have experience with desktops.

Do they even make backpacks/shoulder bags/anything big enough to carry one of these guys with the power brick of course.

yes they do. Its not problem. I have quite a small bag and it almost fits (cant get the zips fully closed). You can definitely get bigger bags. Its quite heavy though. 7Kg I think. I wouldn't carry it about every day.
