You said you messed up. What did you do to make that happen? Have you tried remove the Cmos battery?

    @Papusan
What do you mean? At first, I wanted to flash Dsanke's BIOS to get coffee lake running, but that didn't work out for some reason.

Edit: Got it running again. Thanks for telling me where the chip is!

I want to add more ram to my machine P870DM-G, right now I have Kingston HyperX 2x8Gb 2133 CL13.... I can't find this type of ram anymore to add another 2x8Gb so I will need to sell what I have and buy something else... is it worth having a faster ram?
I have the Prema bios on this machine, what is the ram speed sweet spot 2400 or 2666 or 2933 ? Do you recommend a certain brand for a trouble free experience? What ram do you have on your machine ? (brand, speed, size)

    Thank you !

I'm 2 years into owning my P870DM-G and I'm now starting to get the itch for upgrades. I'm an avionics engineer by trade but can't bring myself to bring a soldering iron to my laptop so I've just gone for a 1070 from eurocom for now. Hopefully should be with me soon.

I've had no issues with mine except the GPU unseats sometimes when I am travelling and gives me a black screen on startup. The laptop is absolutely perfect for my work, I travel around Europe on a boat for 6 months of the year so it's brilliant for a portable gaming setup. Just want to get into the VR level of gaming now so the 1070 coupled with an oculus quest should be fun.

Anyyywayyyy, i'll stop ****posting for now but say thanks to you guys for giving me loads of ideas, I'm considering going up to a TM1 next year so may get a little more courageous with the DMG when it's not my only gaming PC!

I'm also interested in buying the Prema BIOS, I would like to have a play with overclocking the 980m before it get's replaced. and actually letting the CPU do it's thing, I've signed up to the Prema mod website but would like to know where I can actually buy it.

Sorry, I've found it! I was being a bit basic and didn't click that my laptop is a n LGA1151. I did read it the other day, that's what gave me the incentive to look into a BIOS mod. :D

:D it's been two years since I've had to even look at my CPU.

I may wait until the 1070 is fitted before I start playing with the BIOS anyway, better to do it once I know the 1070 is working and stable and then start modding and OC'ing.

My first foray into OC'ing with Nvidia Inspector isn't going too well.... It won't run at +100/+100 like most people seem to be able to, but that is with no OV. Running Witcher 3 on High with V-Sync on keeps to a steady 45 fps with no clocking, but those are rookie numbers, I need to get them up! :D

I'm just having a go with the 980m as a practice before the 1070 arrives. I know for sure, I'll be happy with the performance of the 1070 with base clock but so it's more of a learning exercise for me.

Judging by some posts on the CDprojekt red forums, the Witcher doesn't like playing on over clocked hardware....

But yeah, I'll give it a go on some proper benchmarking software when I can download some. I'm on a boat on satellite internet at the moment.

It's a heavy load but the 980m did have a lot of room to be played with when unlocked.

Yeah, it never seemed to be the GPU struggling, even when I ran it all the way up to +135, it was running good temps and no sign of BSOD or shutdown, just the game would freeze graphically, I could hear Geralt still walking and the menu option sounds so definitely a game issue there. I was getting a 10fps increase with just a +60 so it's quite impressive results from just a little bit of dabbling.

I managed to finally read the Prema mod review on the DMG and it had some great tips on what software to use so feeling what excited about trying this out and seeing some useful results.

Hey all, I just reinstalled win 10 and can't get the camera to work. fn+f10 or the enable/disable in the control center only enable a "device descriptor request failed" type of device appearing in Device Manager. I can't find any drivers for it. Any suggestions?

I installed these and they were working after restarting, but now it's giving the same error "device descriptor request failed". (No matter what I do from the control center)

Has anyone experienced the camera not being available?

So they worked for a short period? Try uninstalling and deleting the drivers and putting the working ones on again.

I've tried re-installing those and restarting, makes no difference still doesn't run. I'm thinking the win7 drivers hadn't made any difference in the end. It feels like either a problem with the control center that I can't figure out, or maybe some connector not touching properly.

I don't get the option to uninstall drive (added https://imgur.com/a/Ov5Tzn1) but it just now worked now when I uninstalled device (I had tried this previously), then disabled/enabled camera through the command center (without win7 drivers). I really dunno what's going on and don't know what's gonna happen when I restart. Thanks for your advice though. We'll see if I get more issues.

It indeed did keep flaking, first it was stuck on low res like 120x160 (0.02mp). After disabling it from the control center, it doesn't show up at all now in the device manager whether I enable it or restart. I might just give up on the camera.

I have another problem now, the pc gets stuck on the manufacturer logo screen if a monitor is connected (at least on either dvi ports) during boot. This just started happening. Any ideas?

Does disconnecting it resume booting? What cable are you using at it does not have a dvi out.

So what's the current best card you can upgrade it with? Is it still the 1070 (And if so, which model is it?) or is there now a better option? I'm running a 980 in mine and it's getting a bit dated.

1070 in the more standard mxm shape (the MSI ones can be a slight bit off).

    Hello All,
I need to consult with the hive mind.
I am in need of a new laptop, and I am going to go with a p870, even though EOL; with the config I want to go with it should be good to go for at least the next 5-6 years.
For that, I am going to order basically a barebone from HIDevolution (I've been in touch wiwth Donald already, cool dude) with a 2080, AUO B173QTN01.4, modded VC and the intel WiFi card it come with.
The rest I'm gonna get here and there and that's where I hope someone can help me / warn me if I'm gonna do a mistake:
-CPU 9900k from Rockit with the copper IHS
-RAM from memory.net , Samsung most likely; here you can help me: what's the fastest that that config can handle? I've read in some places 2666, but I've seen custom builders offer up to 3200. Can someone make a recommendation from memory.net?
    - Storage: 970 EVO 250gb to start with for the OS, 2x 2tb firecuda in the 2.5" slots in raid 0
    - get a 780w power brick somewhere
    - I'm not gonna mess with the Conductonaut when installing the CPU as I have no experience with it and I don't want to fry the motherboard, so Artic Silver 5? Kryonaut? NT-H1? I want to install myself the thermal pad as well, is there guide somewhere with the recommended thickness ?
    Anything I'm missing?
    Thanks for your time!

To make the 9900K truly fly you sand down the die and get a proper custom IHS to match the new height, I guess it depends on how hard core you want to be,
3000-3200 is fairly easy to run and gives you the performance.
A larger SATA based SSD is likely a better bet at that size/price.
780W PSU for a single GPU? Any particular reason?
Artic Silver 5? Did we go back to 2003? Thermal grizzly is fine.

That's why I want to order the CPU from Rockit, they seem to have good results and good reviews. Any feedback on them?

The 780W PSU is because I don't want to be lugging around two bricks. On all the custom builder I've seen, they all recommend 2*230W and adapter. In the past I've eaten through a good number of bricks, the 780 seems sturdier and more durable.

Thank you for the other recommendation!

In between the die and IHS, yes that's the plan. Between the IHS and VC not yet; I move around a lot and I have read so many bad things happening with LM that I don't want to go that way, yet. I'm not gonna be a competitive benchmarker or anything, but I want a piece of machinery I'll be really proud of and be able to tinker with a little.
