The gtx 1070 will only fit the P870DM2 or P870DM3 variants as the retaining screw holes are offset plus it requires an additional power cable.

Really? I didn't know that. The Eurocom site shows a 1070 86x105mm card as an upgrade option for the P870DM-G models. Also, there is a GPU power cable in the laptop for the 980mx card already.

Perhaps it's possible if the P870DM chassis is modified to fit a P870DM2 or 3 motherboard but that would be the only way.

Yes that fits in the clevo p870dmg. The heatsink does not even need modding either! Graphics drivers install themselves too even though the card isn’t officially supported. It does pair very well with this machine and I’d suggest upgrading to that msi 1070 if you want to use the laptop for a couple of years.

I have 2 of them running the MSI GTX1070s they are so awesome with this mod . If you need more info there are a few of us that have done it with great success. Many things that you can upgrade from standard without the BIOS mod

Better than those with the really weak VRM that liked exploding.

Ah yes, that was the combo I ran way back in the day :)

It’s sad to say there won’t be a clevo like the p870dm-g, I’m sure @Mr. Fox and @Papusan agree. In my eyes this was even better than the km and tm. You could and still can run any mxm card in this beast if you do enough modding :D

No clevo style proprietary nonsense just plain and simple mxm with support upto a 9900k. I could only dream of modern laptops having this lol without all that throttling nonsense implemented. The original p870 wasn’t held back as much :)

I've tested and run both a M1000M and a 970M in my TM1 with a shim for adequate heatsink pressure using the 4 position screws for the heatsink itself. You remove the X-bracket and place pads accordingly (except the M1000M, since it uses the A variation and is flush).

Running Uingine Superposition, M1000M never even spun the fans up with that monster heatsink and stayed in the low 50's under load. 970 topped out at 61 with the fans barely moving. Both required modded drivers of course. The M1000M is now running in my daughter's P377SM-A until she un-prys her fingers off of it and lets me put one of my 970Ms in there (I'm pretty sure WOW:Shadowlands will do that lol).

But I do like the dual slot, standard mxm straight approach of the P870DM-G. Much easier to swap cards in and out and use the secondary slot for flashing. The P870DM-G was the pinnacle of standard MXM dual slot greatness. 8086k ran like a quiet storm in my old one no problem.

Okay, I managed to pick up the 1070 (used) for $350. It should be here late next week.

So with putting this in, is it as simple as setting up the thermal pads and pasting the GPU or will I need to shim the vram or GPU to get this running?

On my system I used everything standard iirc just with the SLI setup you cover the second GPU tab to stop contact. But with 1 you are ok to plug and play

Just ensure that Eurocom actually have them in stock, I had a problem with Eurocom sending me the wrong card in November last year and took until January to get my money back. They didn't have the 1070 for the DMG in stock. I only received a refund after I complained to my credit card company and sent them the emails showing that Eurocom didn't talk to me for 2 months whilst I was asking for my refund! After I received a refund from my CC company, they then had the audacity to ask me for a restocking fee!
I'm still over 100USD (insured postage from UK) down and no 1070!

I'd be happy with a 1070 at the moment, I am tempted to mod for the 1080. I am handy with a soldering iron but I'm still worried about damaging the slot.

Funnily enough, I've just been trying to OC the 980m and just running it against the SteamVR test just to see how it comes out. I know this isn't a good bench mark, just look at my username!

it won't run anything over a +100/+200 clock. I know before when I first had it, it would happily run +135/+300. I opened it up to see if the GPU needed repasting and found this. (bottom right of photo)
I thought I saw a flash come out of it a few weeks ago!

I'll know for certain though in a few days when it arrives.

Yeah it's a dense pin connector usually white to the left of the core. On your picture you can see the pads for it but the connector is not soldered on.

Mine should be arriving today, I'm home Thursday and then I will hopefully be fitting it on Friday. Just ordered new pads and MX4 paste to go in with it.

I'm considering buying a second motherboard to do the 1080 mod to. I don't really want to risk my own motherboard, if I'm successful, I can then do the second and keep one as spare/testing MB for uprading my DMG. I'm very new to modding!

Random Question, could anybody point me in the right direction to get hold of the stock bios for this laptop: P870DM-G and also the Stock Vbios for the G sync version of the 908m please?

If they came with flashing instructions that would be the icing on the cake.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello, i have a Clevo P870 laptop which originally came with 1070 SLI. However i later removed one 1070 and am now running a single 1070. My question is - can i upgrade the 1070 to 1080?If so - does the same heatsink fit to the 1080 (the heatsinks are separate for both gpus and cpu).

Yes you can upgrade to GTX1080, but you have to share information/picture of what heatsink you have, so we can give you the right answer.

I would always advise people with a P870 to get hold of a vapor chamber heatsink whether they’re using one or two graphics cards as it performs far better than any other heatsink available for the P870, certainly when it comes to using the GTX 1080.

Re-read my post above. You need make CHASSIS MODS, POWER CABLE MOD, MXM CIRCUIT MOD and CUSTOM GTX 1080 HEAT SINK. Edit This for the P870DM-G
    [IMG]

Edit. You have the DM2(3) and there is a VC heatsink for that model (You need the heatsink for single GTX 1080). You are in the wrong Owner's lounge:) See... https://www.notebookcheck.net/Schenker-XMG-U727-Clevo-P870DM3-G-Notebook-Review.173957.0.html

Yeah, Clevo made it difficult when they changed the shape on the cards + rearranged the slots in the chassis. They even changed the signal routing in the slots to make it more difficult. It's easier if you use a MSI GTX 1070. Just a small mod on the Heatsink and there you go.
