On the GT80 the slave will normally run 10c warmer with stock fan profiles but I haven't ever had one get to 90c. You might ensure you fan profile is set to overclock or custom in the management utility as this will help ramp up the fans quicker and with more duty cycle. The stock vbios should have you covered for safety but I understand 102c does seem a bit on the high side and we all know high temps hurt longevity on GPUS and it's always an easy first step to repaste especially if it came with factory compound. I would try ICD, Antec 6 or something well known first before going with CLU on the GPU as its easy and will tell you if you are on the right track. Let us know your results.

Kryonaut is apparently the new king of non-metal-based TIMs, with ICD and Gelid Extreme close runners-up (according to tests/reviews).
Truth is that the difference between these TIMs is a few degrees at most. I prefer how easy Gelid and Kryonaut are to apply and remove (gotta be careful with ICD when removing/cleaning it).
The only time you'll really see a large difference in TIM performance is getting Liquid Ultra, but that's a whole other ball game.bsch3r likes this. -
I didn't know that SLI doesn't work in windowed full-screen mode.
-
Lapping undoubtedly has an effect, but it is only a couple degrees. First and foremost is a good paste job. Next, switching out the thermal pads. Then lapping. Lapping can have as much of an effect as the pads. Between the three, you MAY be able to get 10 degrees, but no guarantee (assuming clu). But start with pasting, then pads. A good lap (sanding and polishing) takes time and practice. Only now can I do it more quickly and with better results. Practice on something you don't care about, because if you mess up, you have to go back a step or two to fix it!
Papusan, CaerCadarn and bsch3r like this. -
I think the single action you can take that will have the biggest effect on temps is de-lidding, cleaning the gunk Intel puts there, and then applying some good TIM between the die and IHS. Though this is pretty much the same thing as your #1 item, that being a good paste job.CaerCadarn likes this.

Update on SLI temps:
I now chose overclocking fan profile. Temps after 1 hour of Heaven with both GPUs overclocked to 1260 MHZ:
Primary GPU: 67c
Secondary GPU located in the middle: 78c
CPU: 61c
In the end it was my fault not using OC fan profile from the beginning. The cards are already assembled with IC Diamond, so I will not repaste for now.
I think the temps are o.k. now. However fans are really loud now so for gaming I will need a headset. The unit is much louder than my Batman, but hey, it´s SLI.
Matrix Leader has posted his SLI temps in another thread and they are now very similar to mine, the slave GPU being about 12c higher.
So I think we can conclude that the fan/heatsink in the middle (which is also obviously smaller) has a weaker performance than the fan/heatsinks located on both sides. This must be the reason for the higher slave temperature. In my desktop PC both GPUs have the same temperature, so I don´t think one can say that the slave GPU has generally higher temps. It´s just a weaker cooling solution in the middle. I wish Clevo would have chosen to use 3 identical fans. Maybe this would have made the unit a little bit wider. It´s also possible that Clevo constructed the P870DM with desktop GTX 980 in mind. Anyway, not using 3 identical fans is an imperfection to me, otherwise it´s a nice machine.
Maybe I will try to connect GPU1 and GPU2 with an additional heatpipe when I have the time to do it.
In the end I will keep the Phoenix and sell my Batman ;-)GTVEVO likes this. -

I can't also. But it is loud and I suspect the loudest fan could be the one in the middle. Is there a possibility to read the fanspeed with a program. Aida64 can't.

I'm seriously considering delidding the CPU as soon as I get, I wish @Mr. Fox would have made a video of the procedure too
maybe I'll go with the hammer solution
I wanted to ask if you needed to adjust the socket in any way in order for the retainer to hold the CPU? When I googled delidding, there was also an enthusiast who showed that the socket screws had to be adjusted with nuts, because the IHS is pretty thick as you mentioned, otherwise it would be close enough to the heatsink.
I'm also curious about the G-Sync capable GPUs. If I was to buy an external LCD with G-Sync, do I need the G-Sync capable GPUs? In my understand (of the promo materials) the G-Sync LCDs have an extra part inside, or is it just a marketing move and it's only a matter of certification and firmware of those screens and therefore I'd need G-Sync GPUs as well? I'm quite confused.Mr. Fox likes this. -
G-Sync needs a small board installed to G-Sync capable screens to link with a G-Sync capable card to perform said function.
EDIT: And even then, it may not work because of certification of parts and compatibility.
Now for the waiting game... 7-12 business days once parts come in (which are backlogged...). Damn you queues!

Mobile G-sync uses no extra hardware, it uses the capabilities on of eDP panels to control them. It's a firmware/software thing beyond that.

His question was regarding the external display. As for mobile... I dont know too much on that one yet.

Ah yes in that case desktop G-Sync for now needs the module yes. -
I'm also considering doing this. It seems to take 10C off the CPU temps across the board under load, and is the single best thing you can do to lower temps. Between that and under-volting, should see a 15C drop in temps...I hope.
-
It does, but not as quite as well as real full screen. It is still more powerful than single GPU. SLI also works in Window Mode when not full screen.
Unless something has changed, CrossFire does not and only functions in real (non-windowed) full screen mode.Ramzay likes this. -

Mantle and DX12 native applications will IIRC but for current titles it still applies crossfire wont run in windowed mode.

i cant seem to find benefit of working in window full screen mode, to avoid alt tab which takes only few sec. machine is hella fast, unless one would want to monitor temp and other stuff with other tools at the same time..

I never thought about that much, but realized lately how nice that is. h1z1 doesn't have a windowed mode in the setting anywhere, and I would have to constantly tab in and out to check queue times, which are all over the place. After figuring out how to do windowed borderless mode, it's so much better to be able to do something else and not have to keep checking it. -
I always always always play every single game in windowed mode. I'm glad nvidia gave G-sync the ability to run in windowed mode. Was incredibly frustrating when initially it required true fullscreen to function
-
Nah, don't do that. It's super easy with a razor blade. Look at the photos I posted. There's already a video of how to do it. The PCB is thinner than most CPU and I would hate to see you break it using the " don't force it, get a bigger hammer" approach. This guy has a few good videos on his channel.
[parsehtml]<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JkGASegVRiM?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[/parsehtml]I know some people like doing that. I've been a multi-GPU guy for years. I don't see that changing, and maybe the fact that full screen is better has something to do with that. Or, maybe it's just what I am used to after about 18-20 years of doing it full screen. But, I am curious and never asked anyone that likes it. Why do you prefer windowed mode? I know there has to be a reason you do, so I am asking for my own interests and not passing judgment on your preference.kuba.j likes this. -
Do you guys use BIOS boot or UEFI boot? Also my Killer ac1535 seems to kill my connection when under load when bandwidth control is enabled, any ideas?
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I use UEFI offcourse for faster boot.
Regarding the Killer AC1535, you need to uninstall the drivers to get rid of the bandwidth control app and then reboot. After that, do not install the driver by running setup, instead, go to device manager then right click on the WLAN Card and 2 Ethernet devices, choose update driver, then manually point it to where the Killer drivers are located. Example of the path where it would be:
For Killer AC1535: D:\Drivers\Clevo P870DM-G\Drivers\03_Lan\drivers\Production\Windows10-x64\k1535w10
For Killer E2400 Doubleshot LAN: D:\Drivers\Clevo P870DM-G\Drivers\03_Lan\drivers\Production\Windows10-x64\ke2400w10Last edited: Nov 20, 2015Niwoo likes this. -
So you recommend to use ac1535 without the app? I assume that installing that way forgoes the app?

that's exactly what I said in my post. The app is known to cause problems such as the one you mentioned and/or BSODs. That is exactly why I didn't go for the Killer AC1535 in my Phoenix and chose the Intel AC8260 instead. The Qualcomm drivers are absolute garbage just like nVIDIA. The Bandwidth control sounds great on paper, give the apps that need the bandwidth most the highest priority, but take this into real world usage and it's only asking for trouble. This has been ever since the days of the Killer 1202 and until now. Some companies just don't learnjaybee83 likes this. -
I see, perhaps I should grab an AC8260 for replacement off eBay.

That would be the best 50 USD you'd spend believe me.
But still, you will have to uninstall the Killer Suite and manually install the driver for the Killer LAN 2400 cards.
Just go give you an idea about the Intel AC8260 ping =
-
I even ordered another 1535 to see if it fixed the problem but it does the exact same thing, so I did not have a faulty card. Sad that it tarnished my initial Phoenix experience a little bit. Just ordered an AC8260, will see how it goes. Luckily I can still return the extra 1535 I got.
A bit weird to have two lan ports otherwise though, I assume its sole reason for existence is for the killer doubleshot?

Update: Just a heads up for anyone stuck in the same situation. My AC1535 seems to be fine now, I had Doubleshot Pro option enabled without any ethernet cables inserted, seems like it was causing issues.
However, still opting for the intel card seems to still be the smarter choice, will have compare them when I receive my intel card anyways. -

Ah OK, sure... that explains it. Our use patterns are totally different. I NEVER, EVER multi-task when gaming. When I game I am truly immersed and will not allow myself to be distracted by anything else. Gaming is (1) an escape from reality for me--which is probably why I do not enjoy online multiplayer; and (2) just another good (and fun) excuse to bench/overclock the crap out of my hardware. Without SLI, the numbers are always a disappointment to me. I almost will not consider a single GPU machine for anything because of my overclocking fettish. This Sky X9 is actually the first single GPU machine I have used in about 6 years that I did not think was a weak and pathetic piece of junk, LOL. Plus, I almost never have "issues" with SLI. I do sometimes have issues with lazy game devs, or stupid ones that like to use broken game engines that do not support it, but disabling SLI for the sloppy piece of crap games works just as well as a machine without SLI, so there is nothing to lose and everything to gain for me. Look at it like your bottle of nitrous, ready to boost your butt to the moon and back at the flip of a switch.
The beauty of this machine is its capacity to satisfy the "hardcore gamer" and the "hardcore overclocker" or the deadly mixture of both.
Let's not forget the folks at EUROCOM, which would be the only vendor I personally know about that deserves any degree of thanks for helping and contributing to making this awesome machine have the ability to perform like a banshee with Prema's magic firmware. I know there are other Prema partners and don't want to miss credit going where credit is due, but I'm not getting any kind of communication or questions from them. I hear from EUROCOM every day, without fail. They do not sell "Clevo" notebooks. They sell unique high performance machines that are for people that appreciate something more than the norm, and don't want to be identified among the status quo. I know there are few out there like that, with the same passion for wicked machines, but not very many when you look at the industry as a whole. I wish there were more extreme performance vendors than there are. I know of one whose name starts with the letter "A" and now all they sell is really nice garbage. Wow, finally, a Notebookcheck review that I agree with in spite of their technical errors, LOL. They chose the right performance winner for a change, too. They often get so hung up on stock configuration to such an extreme degree that they totally misidentify the true performance winner. The other two turdbooks cannot hold a candle to this machine with sissy-boy BGA CPUs welded to their mobos. They obviously don't know how to make their own overclocking headroom. The BGA CPUs are shackled and predestined for mediocrity at their finest, but the 6700K is not.amosjovt said: ↑See this faceoff: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Face-Off-MSI-GT72S-vs-Asus-G752-vs-Clevo-P870DM.152276.0.html

There is nothing wrong with doing it any way you want to do it. Since I don't allow myself to multi-task or be disturbed when gaming, the full-screen exclusive focus mode works best for me, and delivers the best performance.
