    What a mess ...

If there are versions "cut" that support SLI, they should also be available to clevo, 2 "cut" 980 desktop in SLI is more power that ony 980 desktop "full" and two 980M.

Yes they should be and why a few people expect that they will show up here soon, I suspect when they do it won't be a special announcement unless someone like Prema spreads the joy to us ahead of time. If you could get the desktop CPU with dual desktop SLI GPU in a 17 or 18 notebook I would buy it today so I understand your excitement trust me. The GT80s sli 980 will not have the 6820HK so the CPU will most likely be locked completely but again I am speculating as there is no 6920HQ to compare yet.

This is ridiculous! They inflated the price by 400$ USD more! Default price on the X9 in CAD is 2999, by using their conversion it amounts to 2631$, but the standard conversion amounts to 2256.07$USD! I still have not read anything to why anyone would purchase a Eurocom model compared to a Mythlogic one, especially when they have these kinds of business practices.
Also you can flash a bios on powernotebook models according to one of their sales rep I emailed, and only void the warranty if you brick the laptop.

it usually takes a while for win7 drivers to be released, it was like that with other clevo machines as well. win10 drivers first, followed by win8.1 and 7 later on.

I just realized a 200w 980 will have absolutely no resale value whatever...... Should have taken the SLI 980M option for 500 more CAD.

Very insightful, but not completely true, as there will be 980 MXM failures out of warranty where a replacement card will be rare, so it can still provide a nice recovery of investment over time. Vendors might even provide a trade-in / buy back.

Yep. Gonna have to bother eurocom again tomorrow to if it isnt too late to pay the difference and get the 980M SLI. Just a warning here for everyone else, there really aint a whole lot of good reason to go for the 980 on the P870DM unless you really hate SLI or you are expecting low framerates.

Hey guys, so I've had my P870DM for a few weeks now and this thing is incredible, but I'm having some issues trying to undervolt the 6700k in XTU. I can drop the voltage offset to -100 mV and everything runs fine - up until I leave the computer idle. I've noticed if I'm away for about 20 minutes, I'll come back and the computer will have rebooted, this only happens when I've got XTU running. It doesn't produce any crash file so I don't have a lot to go on, anyone run in to similar issues?

I'm pretty new to high end hardware like this, so I just have a feeling I'm missing something important :p

The third reason is the 200W version requires a supplemental power source for each GPU, just like a desktop GPU. The PCIe slots cannot provide enough power. There is a power port and cable on the motherboard for that.

No, what is ridiculous is the following:
    (1) being critical of a price listed on a web site. Not sure why some people keep on trolling and hating on Eurocom. This is truly asinine. How many times do we have to say they price match and shopping for a computer based solely on web prices is a practice of fools that don't manage their money very well?
    (2) biting the hand that feeds the enthusiast masses... I don't see any other vendor supporting Prema BIOS and vBIOS publicly. You can identify the 2 US vendors that do ONLY because of an obscure mention of them on Prema's web site.
    (3) the vendors that quietly wait and use the "free - not for commercial use" version whenever it eventually becomes available to the masses are stealing it from Prema. (Yes, some of them actually do that.) Another example of biting the hand that feeds, just a different hand in this case.
    (4) those that install the free version after buying one from a vendor that is not a Prema partner void their warranty and give their vendor a lame excuse to not take care of them if something unrelated to the BIOS mod goes wrong.

Considering all of the above, how is a negotiable $400 price difference listed on a web page ridiculous or a problem? I think it's not a big deal unless taken out of context and fabricated to be a big deal. I'd rather buy from a source that I know truly supports overclockers and Prema. What other vendors do we see asking an enthusiast to overclock the crap out of their product and post the results for the world to see? They actually want you to own your machine and enjoy it and not be shackled by crippled firmware and a crippled warranty. Seems like a good deal to me, bud.

Most Windows 10 drivers work flawlessly on Windows 7. Ignore the error message on the CD Autorun about not having the correct OS, just browse the CD and install them, or download them and install them. In many, perhaps most, cases the difference between W10, W8.x and W7 drivers is primarily limited to the data strings in the driver INF file. I'm using them on W7 on the Sky X9. The nice thing about W7 is that it lacks the draconian industrial grade Driver Signature Enforcement filth that Windows 8+ deploys on steroids... a joke (and inconvenient) distraction is all that worthless cruft is. WHQL = 'Certifiable' Windows Haphazard Quality Loser drivers.

Edit: Eurocom is also having a $500 off Black Friday special November 27-30 if anyone is considering pulling the trigger on a Sky X9.

Had some similar issues with XTU and such on my P751ZM. There was an issue with XTU clocking driver and Win 10 automated maintenance service which runs after 10 min idle (it will try to do this until it finishes successfully). Personally I just undervolted and exit XTU completely, so that its not just hidden.
You can try and test it, XTU on, leave 10min idle. Then XTU off, no undervolt and 10 min idle. Then check if theres crashes on both. Im just saying you MIGHT have this issue.

Next you can check your windows event log and there I think "user-defined -> administrative events" if theres anything critical. (Theres usually always some errors but not all are critical). Easiest way is to check by timestamp, like right before the crash.

    what @Omnomberry said ;)

also, thats the drawback of adaptive voltage: ull have to check for stability in idle, light load and full load situations in order to deem an undervolt stable! u have to consider that the adaptive value u set is for all situations, and since the system adjusts the voltages according to the system load it might be that a stable offset at load is unstable at idle.

your best bet is to set the vcore to static and define an exact voltage to feed the cpu core. that way u wont have to worry about differing situations, just test load stability and thats it :)

Oh come on, there's generally no expectation of price matching or price negotiation when buying electronics online, and Eurocom certainly doesn't go out of their way to advertise any price matching that they may or may not do.

I don't negotiate with Amazon, I don't negotiate with NewEgg, I don't negotiate with Frys, I don't negotiate with BestBuy. And fundamentally, I don't want to -- there's a reason people hate interacting with car dealerships. Retailers should be publishing reasonable prices and competing with each other both on price and service. If a retailer is going to publish unreasonably high prices, it's totally reasonable for consumers to ding them for it, and not be called a fool or mocked for not managing their money very well.

If Eurocom wants to keep their prices high in the hopes that people won't know to negotiate or are unwilling to do so, then that's a company I'm not particularly interested in doing business with.

No, I am serious. Maybe it's because I am a long time Alienware guy and only recently abandoned them. I've always negotiated price on their systems just like buying a car. You do your homework and come to the table with an offer that is reasonable and if they want your money you'll have a deal. Not wanting to negotiate (which is not possible with those sources mentioned) is anyone's perogative, but, really, how is calling someone out for hating on a small business and calling them 'ridiculous' a problem? And, how is calling that out as inappropriate any worse than the person spewing the vitriol about the higher price?

Presumably, everyone reading this thread has an interest in owning one of these machines (for the most part) and I find that adds no value to the discussion. At best, the intent is less than honorable and can only be viewed as intended to harm the vendor, and from my perspective the vendor contributing the most to the community with samples of performance that are a driving force behind the desire to have one.

Someone is going to have the lowest price and someone is going to have the highest. At least the one with the highest "sucker" price supports our interest, is driving force behind unlocking the machine, and is willing to push the envelope to make this monster all it is capable of being. Like I said, I don't see another vendor doing that publicly. All they can say is "no" so shame on the buyer for not asking. Complaining about the price being too high without asking them to match a competitor seems really silly to me. I'd be asking the people already selling it for less for a better price as well, not accepting what I see on face value as being the best I can do.

If I were any of the vendors selling this machine, I would not want to be compared with Fry's, NewEgg or Best Buy, or even Walmart. Most of them are small potatoes compared to those stores and they are trying to scratch out a living the best way they can. Those are big retailers that can afford to sell at a loss if they need to drum up business and they don't give a rat's butt about retaining you as a customer. You can get stuff from them cheap enough that negotiating is not necessary. Plus, buying a high performance laptop from a small business boutique is different than buying a gamer-boy crackerbox BGA turdbook (why I no longer buy Alienware, since that's all they sell now) from one of the big-box consumer outlets, whether that be a store-front or web outlet.

Eurocom will offer a $500 USD discount to all Sky X9 orders placed online starting midnight today. This would apply only to orders placed using USD currency. They will apply $500 discount when processing payment so the web pricing is going to be unchanged. Take that for what it's worth, but that makes it look like the door is open for people willing to negotiate later on for a machine with superior firmware and proper warranty support for it.

Mine is built by the good people at CEG and I have to tell you....the waiting is killing me! :(

Payment was sent on Nov18 and no update ever since...I hope at least they got the money and already ordered the parts :)

Hopefully, you will get an update from them. That's a long time to wait with no updates on an expensive purchase. Are they ignoring your inquiries, or have you patiently waited? I would start asking questions just to be safe. If your inquiries go unanswered for more than a couple of days, it might advisable to contact your bank before any more time passes.

Look I understand your awestruck they sent you a system to work on and maybe your pandering in hopes they give you the system; which i hope they do. Lets ask ourselves two questions.

    1. Are they going to price match before applying the 500 dollar black friday deal ? no
    2. With the 500 dollars off the website price are they cheaper than mythlogic ? no

Those are facts. If prices matches are your thing that's fine. I'm a much simpler person and personally it irks me when a company uses these business practices. The only thing about mythlogic is that they have a long QA on all their systems. Mine was quoted 15-25 business days not including holidays. So I am probably waiting a month to get mine if not more.

Putting a myth P870 at the same config gives me 2307 dollars. The x9 default config its 3k CAD. Converting 3000 CAD to USD gives me 2256 CAD. Not sure why doing math makes me a weirdo.

Always implies everything I said on either this thread or the forum doesnt line up. Which I am sure its not the case.

When I was buying(abeit different model) I simply did the math on conversion rate and call it a day.

There really is no need to call people fools over web prices.
I get your point, what is being sold is not something that is just coming off the assembly line, ready to be shipped. I can see you really take to heart what small firms like Eurocom do, I too work in a business that provides premium service at a premium price, but clients are happy with the product.
However, I do and will call ridiculous a malpractice such as changing the currency price, you do realize the conversion they made when changing through the drop-down window is not a correct one?
Be it a error but it is a pretty big one, as that is the starting price of negotiation, when it should not be.
I can confirm by email statements that other vendors will use Prema, a version that like you say will not be as wholesome as the one provided by Eurocom. Am waiting to hear on why that price conversion is wrong, has nothing to do with configs whatsoever.

I'll agree with @ ccarollo when can point us to another vendor apart from Eurocom willing to negotiate and still offer student discount of 10% on top of the negotiation,Not saying one may not exist or shooting down other re-sellers,its all love.

And its explained time over that Eurocoms CAD to USD should not be taken literally. 2999 CAD is plus Canadian GST+PST. Hence the higher price when using their conversion rate on the website in USD.

Example Someone ordering from novia scotia would pay 2999 +15% = 3448.85 CAD

Good work as usual Mr.Fox most of us appreciate it :D

I don't think anyone here is saying that Eurocom deserves to overcharge for a premium work,if that was the case the conversation would be more like "Shut up and pay".Rather it's more like "Yes the prices are high initially but here's what you can do",like as @Ramzay puts it Haggle!!.I guess the frustration comes from discussing it over and over.

My P870DM-G came down to 3618.01 exactly CAD after tax and shipping for 980M SLI and 6700k, I am pretty sure thats impossible to get for me from a vendor outside of Canada.

This. Its like buying a car or a house, sure you can simply see who have the lowest price and call it a day, or you can spend times looking at discounts and putting in different offers. Really depends on your price for your time.

Thank you for clarifying this 2bad0, I actually looked over this entire thread but must have skimmed over anyone asking about the conversion rate. The 500- is very appealing since they offer student discount which other custom builders do not, thanks Mr.Fox for letting us know.

I guess follow Mr.Fox advice and test out the other vendors, asking them if they can do better. But i'd try out Canadian based vendors first, because i'm guessing when it comes to RMA and such that's where shopping home based has its advantages, but hey what do i know? :D

I am in AB, so I only have 5% tax. Take advantage of the student discount and remember its percentage based, so more expensive the system, more discount you get. I looked over almost all the vendors before choosing eurocom for their prices. I am not sure on import duties of sellers outside of NA, just take that in consideration. CAD really suck right now, so probably you arent getting whole lot of good deals outside of Canada.

The price for SSD and RAM are rather high on their site, so just get the bare amount you need and/or buy your own from NCIX/Memory express.

Yeah, exactly guys. I am not calling a person a fool as much as using hyperbole to illustrate the folly of paying advertised prices instead of asking if they can do better. If the answer is no, you take your money elsewhere or pay the difference for the value of the enhanced firmware and the latitude to use it without voiding your warranty. Not trying to offend anyone. I do not work for them. My career is not even IT. I'm just excited about a vendor that doesn't think it's a crime to overclock, is willing to help by sponsoring a fix for the crippled firmware that is an impediment to performance, and stake their reputation on it. I appreciate that, and it's very rare. I'm not expecting anything for free from them. They asked me if I wanted to help and I said yes... simple as that. It's a great company. I really like them. And, they like what I can do to showcase the capabilities of the products they sell. Had another vendor approached me first my response would have been the same. My hope is that the examples I share in my review makes everyone want one. I've had a gut full of the worthless emasculated BGA trash being crapped out of the bowels of most of Clevos competitors and I'd like nothing better than to see sales of those garbage products fail miserably due to the availability of superior products like this one. Probably won't happen because too many people don't know/don't care, but there's always hope.

Edit: Last time I checked, they were also the only vendor left in North America that still sells the almighty Panther (P570WM), which is still the baddest laptop on the planet. The fact that they do is a nice example of their commitment to performance excellence I keep chirping about. Unless Clevo or someone else releases an X99 notebook with 5960X that product will remain King of the Hill for a long time. It's a niche product, but... OMG, those extra cores and threads are super sweet.

Sky X9 versus Panther: 3DMark 11 Extreme Overclock Results (Pretty amazing a quad core can get a physics this close to hexacore... that 6700K is nice. Don't try it with Windows 8.x or 10 though... you'll think your machine is messed up even though it's not.)

Edit: Nvm, just 3dMark reported as turbo clock.

Surprised the Panther's VRM can hold up a 4930k at that clock though...

and very impressed with pushing the 980m SLI at 1445 core.

    By the way, Mr.Fox

There was some talk about having difficulty installing win 7 via USB on skylake based system due to no native USB 3.0 driver supports so people's USB mouse/keyboard doesnt work. Did you encounter any issues with this on x9?

I just sent sales@eurocom an email but wondering if maybe Mr. Fox can answer. The black Friday sale for the sky x9 is that a cash only deal or does it apply to credit (us credit)?

    Hello Mr. Fox,

Ah yes, the P570WM...the one that got away from me. How many times I have lamented that I never got one, opting for a Dell Precision M6600 instead because reliability was a must, and I was still smarting over my Sager 9860 paperweight. Many P570WM owners have modded their laptops to ridiculous extremes, and the machine has proven to be perhaps the best built laptop ever created.

I can personally attest to you being correct about negotiating internet prices for laptops. I have always done so, and the only time I was dissatisfied was when an Alienware rep agreed to a deal on an Alienware 18 that was so good that his supervisor got on the phone and pulled the plug before I could close it. Needless to say, I would never consider buying from them again (BGA notwithstanding).

Thank you for the information re: the Eurocom $500/off USD offer...but there has been one thing about Eurocom prices (besides what always appeared to be grossly over-inflated pricing) that always bothered me. For instance, right now the base price for the Sky X9 is $2999 CAD, but when one reloads the screen for USD the base price becomes $2585. The rub is this: the CAD is only worth a hair above $0.75 USD right now...so the base USD price should be ~$2250 USD. In essence, since the USD price is already over-inflated by ~$335, a $500 discount is really only a ~$165 discount. For this reason alone, I have never attempted to deal with them, as to my mind such price gouging reflects negatively on Eurocom's corporate philosophy when dealing with US buyers.

However, since you are a well-respected member of this forum, and I value your opinion highly, I will do this: I will contact Eurocom early on Monday, 11/30, and ask them to start their negotiations on the Sky X9 at ~USD $2250 (or whatever the correct price in USD should be after configuring options)...deduct $500 from that...allow the 10% student discount...determine if there is any additional wiggle room left...and see what they say.

Whatever the outcome, I will report it back to the forum.

^From what fox said, it seems like 500 dollar saving its applied in the end, so get the student discount applied first for maximum price saving as it is percentage based.

Look, it's great that Eurocom is offering a good product, and they're a small business trying to make it.

But if you look at their prices -- with NO indication that negotiation or price matching is even an option -- it sure seems like they're just hoping that people are going to pay their overinflated prices. If they want to play that game, that's fine. It's just not something I can get behind.

Nor can I get behind berating people for not knowing that price negotiation is even an option.

(for what it's worth, even with the temporary $500 discount, Mythlogic is still cheaper on the spec-out I'm looking at)

I was looking at Mythlogic as well...but if Eurocom comes through by correcting the exchange rate, a 10% student discount, and $500 USD off, I believe they would come out on top. I'm not a fanboy of either company, so it makes no difference to me. Care to share your specs so I can do the math?

Yes, that is correct. When you get to the point of Windows Setup prompting you for a driver, have the Intel USB 3.0 drivers on a folder on your USB stick or on a secondary HDD/SSD and browse to them. If you need them, you can download them from my Google Drive here: [ LINK] If you have RAID enabled in the BIOS, you will need Intel Rapid Storage Technology x64 F6 drivers also. You can put them in the same folder as the USB drivers.

I never need an internet connection to install W10. Look for the small text at the bottom to use all of your own settings (basically turn off everything that is turned on by default and don't let Windows Setup make any decision on your behalf) and skip things like connecting to the internet. I typically download DWS (Destroy Windows Spying) to another drive and install that and kill everything nasty that is possible in Windows 10 before connecting to the internet for the first time. Use DSW to disable Windows Update also.

I may get flamed for this and may have done it myself.Sometimes it said no question is stupid and i agree to a greater extent,i like asking questions myself and encourage others to ask me.

But! you know what? reading 131 pages thus far and asking the same questions over and over or making comments based on explanations that have been explained in the best possible manner is pretty close to stupid question/comment.

It's not like "i hear you but i don't understand".It's more like skipping the marathon and asking for the goodies that come after.I don't think its fair to those who take their time off to try explaining stuff,to have to do it all over again just for our "i can't read through all this attitude".Sometimes the heated conversations do raise valid points but after a time the runing in circles gets frustrating pretty quickly.

Unless maybe this is the way it ought to be and i'm the new kid here

After some testing, too those who have issues with GPU fan spinning in 2D mode after been playing a 3D game.
After I installed MSI Afterburner, and hooked of voltage control(even if you don't gain any), the issue is gone when I use the Automatic Fan Control in Clevo Control(FN+1).

Don't know if this is random, but it worked for me!
