haha, i had to smile at this post, welcome to nbr!that is sadly the case in all larger threads, topics/questions/problems going round in circles ^^ problem is the nbr search function always has, still does and most probably always will suck butt

Yet there is no reserved post (1st or 2nd) in the thread which would contain FAQ. Many people asking the same questions over and over may be bad, but sending someone to gather pieces of information through up to 500 pages (see 1yo+ models) is not particularly polite either. You know, if the mountain won't come to Muhammad then Muhammad must go to the mountain.

People can find what they need by using Google. Use the prefix "site:forum.notebookreview.com" followed by key words. For example, if I want to search for your posts I can insert your user name as a key word, then site:forum.notebookreview.com Niaphim will show me your stuff. The TL;DR mentality causes issues in every area of life. People need to be spoon fed way too much. @2bad0 was right on point. I'm good with helping people that have searched high and low and are frustrated, need help finding something they already saw before and cannot locate. To say, something like "I don't want to look through this long thread for the answers, plus just give me the answer" is a real turn-off.
You can get really specific with a Google search. Try this one: site:forum.notebookreview.com Niaphim people asking the same and the first hit is a post with your comments in it, LOL.

For those of you who are "in the know", and it would seem that there are more than a few of you here:
Eurocom is now offering the DLX7 for pre-order, which appears to be based upon the Sky X9 chassis, although I could be wrong about this. It would appear that:
1) Killer Double Shot X3-Pro is not offered on the DLX7;
2) The DLX7 "exchanges" 2 -USB 3.0 ports for one eSATA/USB 3.0 port;
3) The DLX7 is maxed at a single 180W desktop card (no SLI; no 200W cards).
The DLX7 configuration defaults to a desktop 980 and a 4K screen. If I configure a Sky X9 with both of those options (granted, the 980 in the X9 is 200W), and without applying the promotional X9 discount, the price is a little over $500 CAD less for the DLX7.
So, does the price differential basically come down to the loss of the Double Shot, SLI, and 200W card options, or did I miss something? I'm also wondering what was gained in exchange for this loss, if anything, other than a cheaper price; for instance, is the cooling better? And if so, why would it need to be better if you don't need to dissipate the heat from a second VGA card?
Since I adore having options, I would rather configure a Sky X9 to mirror the DLX7 as closely as possible...but I'm not sure if paying $500+ CAD more is justified. -
Question for Mr. Fox, Is it possible to buy the Prema Bios from Eurocom?
-
If you have lots of menu options for overclocking CPU, RAM, chipset tweaks and legacy BIOS configuration options, then you have it. If you have basically nothing except the most basic drive configuration and Secure Boot options, you have the worthless factory BIOS.
The main screen will proudly identify your system as a EUROCOM SKY X9 or GX9 rather than an ordinary Clevo P870M or P870DM-G model, as shown here.
And, you will find awesomeness abounding with menus like these...
[parsehtml]<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwdqi25LDwZyOWJqUml1NGQwRDQ/preview" width="1280" height="720"></iframe>[/parsehtml]Note: Please don't assume any settings shown here are optimized. They are only photos of some Sky X9 unlocked BIOS screens and some of the settings shown are not optimal at all. One or two of them may have been removed from the RC1 or RTM version, as the beta versions I have been testing with Prema had some potentially "dangerous" settings that have been removed to protect people (and the machine) from damage. -
Just wanted to post my opinion on the whole eurocom pricing stuff. Originally I was looking to configure a p770dm to buy and instantly discounted eurocom because of the higher price. I was pretty much set with either going with LPC or Mythlogic. I ended up waiting for black Friday and eurocom put out an amazing deal (even with the high pricing). I was only aiming for 980m/i7-6700k/16 ram so my configuration was pretty empty. With this configuration on Myth it came out to 2360 with 2 year warranty. Eurocom ended up costing me 2260 for the p870dm. I realize if you were looking to go with the 980 (-m) and other accessories like harddrives the prices may be much different but just for the barebones 980m/gpu/ram I ended up getting the p870 for a steal. In my mind the exchange rate did not cause issues because they ended up having the best black friday deal for the p870. Regardless of the exchange rate it still ended up being the cheapest deal for what I needed, and now if I need to I can upgrade the gpu/gpus in the future. I think if someone did try to get them to set the base price at $2,2xx and get a student discount and also subtract $500 there is no way eurocom would not be losing money.

Well after 3 weeks, my laptop finally arrived from XoticPC...... with a big dent. Packaging was fine, so my only guess is it happened during production...which doesn't speak well for Sager's QC. Extremely disappointed, hopefully the RMA doesn't take another 3 weeks to get a new one.
Total buzzkill.

I doubt it, but I don't work for them. That would defeat the purpose of their partnership with Prema and diminish the value of the products and services they sell to Eurocom customers. I'm an member of this forum with a reputation for being a performance psycho and only accepted their offer to help test/overclock it and help my friend @Prema with the firmware mod testing.
That sucks. You have our deepest sympathy. Stuff like this happens sometimes. It should not, but XoticPC is a reputable vendor and I doubt you will have any issues getting them to take care of it. -
True, but so far I've learned that to get right answers you have to ask right questions. I've gone through literally all threads about Haswell and Skylake Clevo laptops, as well as read stuff on different sites, and only then I found that there exists such wonderful thing as Prema BIOS, also undervolting 6700k as an example (it doesn't show after a "6700k temperature" search in this thread) - list goes on. But my profession implies working with literature and research directly. There are many people who do not share "TL;DR mentality" but still struggle to find a point where to start, and I can't blame them. Even a list of keywords in the OP as a reference point would help.
-
Don't use the forum's search feature. Use Google for best results... for example: site:forum.notebookreview.com 6700K voltage and you will find what is available after Google's bots have found it and indexed it. That's the only way I can find things when I need them.Mr. Spock likes this.

No-no-no, in the situation I described I am someone who is new to the topic and the only thing I see is that my CPU runs hot. I can't possibly know that it is related to the overtuned voltage. It takes quite some time to find the less obvious solution, because you see multiple "do a repaste job" answers on multiple sites.
-

Well if things are running hot there are only a few things it can be.
-
In that case, you post the question if anyone knows if any information in this thread is available to help you understand why your 6700K seems to be running hotter than expected. No harm in that. The first person that sees your question and knows the answer will respond.

Would doing light OC on 6700k and somewhat heavy OC on 980M SLI be sustainable with a 330w PSU?
-
The $500 USD off is literally useless for Canadians. What a joke. Thanks Eurocom.
When purchasing in USD, it works out to being ~$165 off, but since ALL the rates are off with upgrades, once converted back to CAD, it ends up being MORE. What's worse, we have to pay an exchange rate, unless someone has 5K in USD lying around their CAD bank accounts....
Reflexnotebook is roughly $170+ cheaper.Last edited: Nov 27, 2015 -
My patience have stopped today and I finally ordered the system from Mythlogic
6700K + GTX980 desktop + 2x8Gb DDR4 2400MHz, G-Sync fullHD panel. Trying to save up a little bit, I refused NVME drive and ordered 2x250 Evo 850 in Raid 0. Single PSU, win 10 Pro. With UPS ground delivery, the total is less than 3K.
I also asked the techsupport about @Prema's partnership and unlocked bios, and they confirmed, that @Prema's moded bios is pre-set when You purchase from Mythlogic.
So, waiting now.hmscott likes this. -
@zdroj - Yes. The DLX7 is actually the P775DM - the Wingman. In regards to the feature set and pricing, there's been some discussion about that here - https://forum.techinferno.com/clevo...3-p775dm1-g-aka-wingman-executive-lounge.html

No, not at all. With no overclocking is marginally adequate. 980M SLI draws a LOT more than single GTX 980. You need more at least 500W worth of breathing room for 980M SLI overclocked.
Single 330W AC adapter is almost perfect for the 200W GTX 980 model. The highest power draw I have witnessed from it with the CPU at 4.8GHz and GPU overclocked to 1500/4000 was about 326W. -
Oh.....
I am guess I am not touching the voltage at all.So if I just play with the max power draw for GPU and light OCing on the CPU is fine?
Out of curiosity, what are the consequences of going over this limit? Just the AC unit gets fried, risk of the entire system or an automatic throttle?
How exactly do you get a 660w PSU? Do you just buy another 330w unit and get a device that combines them or do it seperately?Last edited: Nov 27, 2015 -
You can order the second 330W AC adapter and convertor box with the machine,ajc9988 likes this.

You're essentially gimping the system of it's full potential with 6700k/980m sli.....especially once the vBios and sBios are released publicly.
Since your system already shipped, you can buy another 330w AC adapter and buy a dual adapter to combine both of the power supplies http://www.laptoppartsnow.com/j01150mclac12.html
That's where I bought my dual adapter, cheapest I could find as well.
If you need both the dual adapter and 2nd power supply, you can buy the bundle http://www.laptoppartsnow.com/j01150mclac03.htmlLast edited: Nov 27, 2015Mr. Fox likes this. -
The vendor that sold you the system will likely ship it to you if you pay the original difference in cost. You should be able to run the CPU and GPU stock and do some gaming. If you try to overclock either one it will like just shut itself off due to lack of power. It may trip the AC adapter's internal circuit breaker. If that happens, unplug it from the wall outlet and wait about 10 or 15 seconds, then reconnect it.

@Matrix Leader - it just occurred to me that you have an SLI system. That alone will slightly lower your physics score because the CPU has to do extra work to help manage two GPUs instead of one. It pays off in the end because the massive increase in GPU performance more than offsets the minor hit in physics performance.
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Ohh thanks for noticing that, I was wondering why you smoked me in every CPU benchmark even at the same clock speed despite me doing all the Matrix Tweaks like disabling NTFS Compression, to ensure the CPU doesn't have to do any extra work while accessing a file/folder that may or may have not been compressed. I bought the SLI setup because you always told me "2 are better than 1"
Any ETA on when the Prema BIOS would be released to the public? -
Two are better than one in almost everything. Multi-GPU always has been, and will continue to be, my preferred system configuration. Nope, no word on that. This is something he has not told me. If I had to guess, I would guess 6+ months, until the Prema Mod Partners have received the maximum benefit to be realized from offering an exclusive added value feature to those that want it on day one. I also don't know if the "free" version will have equal features in all aspects. He has not said anything about that either. I only helped with the firmware development (testing part) that Eurocom so graciously sponsored.

Vivian from HIDevolution told me that she will try to contact EUROCOM for that BIOS since they have connections. I have my doubts that they would give it to her but I hope as my bubble has been burst now that I know it would take so long to be released to the public. -
everybody say that 980m sli is more more more better, but i think is good also the single gtx 980.. I mean is not completely worst eheh

Single Desktop GTX 980 is the next best thing after 980M SLI so it's not bad as well. Less headaches with games that don't properly support SLI -

You would need a full gm200 and 225w to stand up to 980m sli fully.

On a quest for putting an operating system of my choice, not M$'s choice, into the Phoenix. I'm not giving up even though I'm 90% sure I'll have to wait for Prema's magic. Applied Mr. Fox's 2-minute cooling mode right away
my slave-GPU air intake was also covered, damn, that can't be right.
BTW, my Eurocom lacks any branding but the BIOS says SKY X9 even though it's not PremaAttached Files:

Lol, my heart sinks every time I see the M18x R2. RIP.
Can't wait to see 22K busted in 3DM11 with the Sky X9. -
I finally decided and will be purchasing the X9 from Eurocom. To anyone that asked for the repasting with CLU service, how much did they charge you for it? I'd like to have a reference price when I ask them. How about CPU delid? Should I do that myself (don't have the balls for it) or see how much that service costs? The decrease in temps seems very worth it.
@Matrix Leader I believe you had your CPU repasted, whas the better heatsink worth it? Any headaches with SLI?
What I am still unsure of is getting either an SLI config or the desktop 980. I have never really OC'd despite building my desktop gaming PC by scratch, but judging by the better performance out of the box it seems like the way to go, hate to see an empty spot when opening the Phoenix up. I will also have to purchase the U3 and mod it accordingly, but after this I probably won't have enough cash for even 120mm fans! -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I chose CLU + advanced copper heatsink from HIDevolution but let me tell you this, it makes 0 difference, or at least not as good as I anticipated it to be, this thing can easily reach upto 96-98C under load on all cores even if you drop the voltage toe 1.165V
Also, as great as SLI is in benchmarks, when enabling SLI the CPU throttles down to 3.7 GHz at times unless you tweak XTU properly to decrease the voltage to 1.165V or 1.175V and increase the Turbo Boost Power Max from 95W to 130W to 160W, the more the better. Also, with nVIDIA's crappy drivers for the last year, SLI is great in benchmarks but may or may not be that great in games that are not optimized for it. It's your call, if you wanna play benchmarks like me and Mr. Fox, go SLI. If you want a hassle free experience, stick with a single desktop 980 and the stock IC Diamond. Just my 2 cents worth. -
Try disabling sli and run the physic again?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
There is the delidmate. Also as I said before, go with 980M sli if you plan on upgrading the gpu. Otherwise a 200w 980 arent exactly a hot sell.Spartan@HIDevolution and heizenbrg like this. -
I've got a question about the PSUs, I see you've all said the 980m Sli setup will need the dual PSUs, what about the 970 Sli? The guys at Mysn didn't say anything about that possibility when I ordered.
-
Could this be due to the fact that unfortunately you are not equipped with Prema Bios? I don't know if my version will come already undervolted but looking at all those settings I'm sure I can make it work. I fix PCs all day for work anyhow so learning to overclock and fine tune the machine is something new that I can add to my portofolio.
I do travel so will most likely simply disable one GPU and travel with one adapter.
For 89$ it does seem like a safety measure when spending way more on the CPU, I'll still ask them if they can do it and apply CLU, which from my understanding should go on the die and on the IHS? Did you do it on the GPU's as well? -
According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-970M-SLI.129392.0.html, the power consumption from both cards totals to 200W, you should be fine with one.RFE3 likes this.
