Thanks again bro!anyway i use windows 10 pro.. But for sure i will go windows 7 again.. I hate his 10!
Anyway i have to remove again windows right? Or i can install even with windows installed?
-
If you are installing the same version of Windows you will want to take out the SSDs you have it installed to now, install Windows to NVMe and then wipe/format the SSDs it is installed to now. It is always ideal to install Windows with only the drive or volume you plan to use for it to ensure the boot drive is that one. Sometimes Windows picks another drive and that can cause issues.

Wow, you,re a don! delided, this is what I'll do me thinks, re pasted with CLU I'm guessing
I've been away for ages, my last laptop was x7200 I think, gosh things have progressed ! Was waiting for 980m successor before upgrading but I think nvidia have done that with the desktop 980 yes? So no dedicated 990m card on its way anytime soon? I hope notMr. Fox likes this. -
Oh God.....Please tell me this isn't true......
So there's no possibility to run the Win 7 OS off a m.2 ssd? No tricks or anything to get around it? I was planning to use the 1st 250Gb samsung m.2 ssd for the OS and Office etc...
Would I be better off Raiding the two 250GB m.2 SSD's and installing the OS on the 1TB Samsung SSD then?
Do I need to Slipstream the Intel Rapid Storage Technology F6 x64 drivers into the Win 7 install on the USB Drive also?Last edited: Nov 30, 2015 -
Thanks for the reply
. Specifically for my case it will be used mainly for programming - really can't beat the crisp text rendering. But yes, menu/window scaling is terribly done on Windows and games will have to be scaled down.
Appreciate the replies - thanks

So is Eurocom or Mythlogic shipping the P870dm-g with the modded bois or unlocked vbios or both now? Anyone have any info on this, this is the last day of the Eurocom 500 off deal so I wanted to ask.

Well, M.2 form factor is not the problem from what I know. An ordinary SSD in M.2 form factor should work fine, only the extremely fast NVMe flavor has issues and that only because of needing UEFI boot without Legacy Option ROM to work correctly. I have seen reports of people installing to SSD and cloning to NVMe. And, there's is an ISO out there (I think @Matrix Leader knows where) with the NVMe drivers and USB 3.0 drivers already incorporated. I have not tried it, but I can tell you the trial and error I endured was very painful and represents about a full day of my life I will never get back and I ended up giving up and installing Windows 7 to a "normal" SSD instead of NVMe.
I am dual booting 10 (on NVMe) and 7 and they place nice that way. The key is to have Windows 7 normal SSD be the boot drive for both OSes. I installed Windows 7 without any NVMe drives, then removed the SSD and installed Windows 10 to NVMe. Each has it own Windows Boot Manager, and I used EasyBCD to add both OSes to each Windows Boot Manager. If I boot from the NVMe only Windows 10 loads... Windows 7 freezes at the welcome/logon screen, or freezes with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner. If I boot the SSD Windows 7 is installed to with its own Boot Manager, either OS will load and run just fine. This dual-boot concoction that I finally got to work will only boot with the BIOS set a very specific way, one minor change to the configuration and Windows 7 is toast... as in corrupted and no longer functional. (Thank God for drive images.) And, I am not sure the ordinary BIOS gives access to the menus that need to be changed for it to work.
That's why I said it is more trouble than it is worth. If Windows 7 were not my first and best choice in OS it would not matter and NVMe would be just peachy. But, I really despise 8/8.x and 10. -

I deleted the ISO because it was a huge fail, I did the integration perfectly using the latest Windows NVMe Hotfix and the Samsusng 950 PRO SSD, no matter what I did, Windows would not see the 950 PRO. As you said, it may require pure UEFI mode with no Legacy Support. So as it stands now, if you want the 950 PRO, you'd have to use Windows 10 (who knows if 8 works but I wouldn't touch that OS even if you send me $500 USD to my bank account) -
Here are photos of the settings that are the only way I can get Windows 7 and Windows 10 to co-exist with NVMe drives for Windows 10, and the Windows Boot Manager has to be on the normal SSD or Windows 7 will not load. Windows 7 can access the NVMe with drivers installed, but not boot from it for some reason. Not sure whether those menus are present in the stock BIOS. I don't think they are, but after probably somewhere around 100 different firmware mods/flashes, I just cannot clearly remember what was there and what wasn't. Prema added full Legacy/CSM support. Anyhow, if I change any of those settings, no more Windows 7... no workey. And, looking at how they are set, even those settings should not work, because Launch CSM is "Disabled" LOL. But, it does... maybe by accident.

Hi all. First Post.
I ended up getting this laptop with following specs
17.3" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-6700k (4.0GHz) 8MB Cache
32GB HyperX IMPACT 2133MHz SODIMM DDR4 (4 x 8GB)
2 x NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980M - 8.0GB DDR5 Video RAM, DirectX® 12, G-SYNC
512GB SAMSUNG SM951 M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 2150MB/R, 1550MB/W)
512GB SAMSUNG SM951 M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 2150MB/R, 1550MB/W)
I had the older one from 3 years ago. Cant remember exact model but it was 680M SLI and i7-3840QM with SSD as boot.
My thoughts.....
After wondering about whether to get gsync or QFHD I opted for Gsync. I have to say I am not convinced on Gsync is any better than my old setup but the colour/clarity of the screen certainly seems better. My old screen was a 120HZ screen and I am guessing that at this speed, frame stutter is not an issue as not many games go faster than 120fps?? Maybe I am wrong but I don't really see any difference using Gsync at 75Hz. Some people say its amazing. I think my old laptop was as smooth. Maybe I should have gone for QFHD but I can always upgrade in the future (I presume).
After only learning about M.2 a few weeks ago I have mixed feelings about it. It benchmarks amazingly and I get the full 2.5Gbytes per second. The only problem is that it doesn't really translate massively in real world applications like loading games. I suspect that the CPU, memory or chipset is now the bottleneck as games are loading faster but not 5 times faster than my old SSD.
Windows 10 loads in about 30 seconds from button push which again is pretty slow for something that is 5 times faster than an SSD. I think that in reality its the startup time of UEFI that takes ages. From seeing a recognisable windows screen to desktop is less than 3 seconds. Its hard to tell when UEFI ends and windows 10 starts.
The 980m sli is amazing however and all my games I can run at max. To be fair my 680m sli was max settings until recent games such as blops and fallout 4. It is noticeably smoother now and more importantly it looks better. It can make a big difference having a consistant high framerate in competitive gameplay.
I got the intel wifi as I have had previous issues with the killer. The intel one seems to work fine. Maybe the killer might shave some ms off, but its not worth the hassle I have had with killer drivers in the past.
Overall I would say its an amazing laptop and runs games great. The only issue I have is that it seems to not use the full speed of the M.2 in real world applications and like I said, its probably the chipset, mem or CPU.
This CPU only benchmarks 10% faster than my old one. Theres nothing I can do about it as its the fasted CPU I can get at the moment.
I may look into overclocking, if people are getting big performance gains?Mr. Fox likes this. -

The stock BIOS is no better than a locked down Acer laptop's BIOS, no CMS Support, no nothing, it is basically, use the laptop as we made it, you are not allowed to change a thing -

M.2 SSDs are great for benchmarks, in normal usage, I cannot tell the diff between them and a normal SSD. The boot is much slower as it takes much more for the System BIOS to initialize the M.2 / NVMe SSDs -
Welcome @u07jrb and thanks for a great first post, too. Awesome machine, indeed.
If you notice, NVMe is only fast with large files. With smaller files it is actually a little bit slower than some ordinary SSDs are and that might explain the longer Windows boot time. These have been issues with NVMe all along, even with the expensive Intel NVMe desktop drive. I'm with you... impressive for benchmarks, but apart from that I'm not convinced they are "all that" and would opt for an ordinary M.2 SSD. If for no other reasons than the restrictions associated with NVMe, it's just not worth it and the extra expense for something with less functionality is not justified IMHO.Mr. Spock and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Yeah the Intel 750 PCIe SSE I had in my previous Origin PC Millennium Desktop took 25 secs to initialize, you're be staring at a nice black screen for 25 seconds before Windows starts to boot. Once it does, it is fast, but you don't feel it.
You see, anything above the 30MB/S mark for 4K read/write speeds = snappy feeling. So you really can never tell the diff, if a system had an NVMe SSD or a normal one if you didn't run benchmarks.
With that said, still, once must use them if he wants to have the max storage in his system, as in, two M.2 SSDs + 2 SATA HDDs/SSDs -
Sounds like maybe they got some Alienware kooties in the BIOS development department. But, Clevo has always had a sucky crippled BIOS. They are only good when fully unlocked by Prema. The Panther stock BIOS is also a piece of crap. Even unlocked it's not wonderful, but it's a massive improvement over stock.
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
The Alienware BIOS that we used to complain about as being locked down seems to be like a Prema Mod BIOS compared to this crappy CLEVO BIOS -
I agree. As sad as that is. But, the overall machine is a lot more powerful. I like the way it looks much better than the 18 as well. I wish they had made the lid and palm rest out of anodized billet aluminum. That would have been really sweet. All things considered, still a very awesome machine and I really do want one. I'd trade both the M18xR1 and R2 for one of these in a heartbeat.

Do you know if Eurocom or Mythlogic is shipping the systems with the bios and or vbios mods yet? -
Hey, I have owned both. I think the AW18 from scratch is more silent in gaming. But with some minor tweaks, The Clevo p870DM, is just as dead silent. That's in stock mode, OC will always give you loud fans. The reason I'm undervolting and just staying at stock performance is the fans noise. I have my machine in the living room(my 2 year son got the "gaming room"), so my wife is pretty "picky" about the noise. So far she has aproved the machine!TomJGX, CaerCadarn, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this.

Thanks, you had me worried there for a min. I have the Samsung 850 Evo's in mine (both m.2 drives and the 2.5" SSD) so I assume they aren't NVMe so the Win 7 OS install should work fine. Do you think I should Slipstream the F6FLPYx64 Drivers into the Win7 install as a precaution ? -
No, I don't know. I think @ssj92 got his already, so maybe he knows. If not, they will make it available for download for Sky X9 owners. It will brand the machine's BIOS as a EUROCOM SKY X9. I am using the RC1 BIOS and vBIOS and I think Prema might be giving me some time to discover any bugs, but he may have given it to Eurocom before he left for the holidays.
No need to go to the extra effort for that. Just download the Intel RST F6 drivers and the Intel USB 3.0 drivers, extract the contents to a folder on your USB stick or format an internal HDD/SSD and stick them there. When Windows Setup prompts you to add drivers, select them manually by browsing to the folder where you placed them in. -
Long time, no post. Hopefully you haven't forgotten some of our x7200 talk. Mine is still going strong, but I have my eye on the P870DM or P775DM.

Just did, and no they do not have either at this time.

I ordered before the black friday deal and mythlogic was nice enough to apply it when i contacted them. saved me about $105 USD. both have prema and mine is still cheaper than eurocom after 500 USD discount. you can ask for price matching with eurocom if you prefer the logo, but their essentially the same laptop. mythlogic does have longer QA on their computer and will take longer to arrive.heizenbrg likes this.
-
So mythlogic gave you 500 off their original price or just matched eurocom?
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk -
no mythlogic has a deal going that equates to about 105 dollars off my original order with the black friday upgrades. Eurocom was about 700 USD over my original price on the same hardware. Im saying that eurocom would probably match mythlogic if you decide to go with them, but you would need to contact them. The reason they are offering 500USD off the laptop is because their listed margins are so high.

Mythlogic offers a free "k" upgrade from standard i7-6700k and free upgrade to 16gb ram from 8gb, I'm thinking that's the price difference you are talking about. They gave you the Prema vbios without any extra cost?
They charge 200$USD for the Prima vbios, just a heads up. Delidding is not covered by Intel so it's DIY but they can sell you Liquid Ultra.
I spoke to him by email as well as phone and with their marketing director as well, I did not purchase from them have you? Like others mentioned their default price is not a standard currency rate but other costs as well, they would not lower that price as they said they cannot do that. The 500$ cannot be combined with a student discount, they got a lot of calls for that.
I'll be going with Mythlogic as they provide the Prema Bios, Josh said it is not quite the same thing as they have to warranty it @Mr. Fox @Prema any idea how unlocked that version is?
I cannot afford the SLI 980M sadly, and one brick should be enough, the build seems solid and it's about 2,800$.
Am unsure of getting windows 10, anyone have any leads on buying cheap reputable windows 7 key? Not sure about ebay...

I am using the p870dm with 6700k and 980m sli both cards overclocked by 135 MHz with stock voltage. Reading powerdraw on the wall when gaming e.g. star wars battlefront or benching with 3dmark or heaven I never get beyond 310 W. Usually iz stays around 290 W. So even for the sli configuration one 330W powersupply should be sufficient. However, with unlocked bios and overclocking you will need 2 powersupplies.
Gesendet von meinem SM-G928F mit TapatalkOmnomberry likes this. -
consider that the power reading at the wall is not the actual power consumption of the psu. at a rating of 87% (efficiency class V) u would see 330/87*100=~380W power draw at the wall before u hit the actual 330W psu draw
so yeah, at 290-310W at the wall u still have 70-90W of breathing room left

Ordered on 11/06, 4K panels was the reason for the delay, but others had theirs shipped. I'm guessing there were a few people before me that ordered earlier. They said it should ship today or Wednesday so let's see if that holds true...
Who charges an extra $200 for the Prema BIOS? It shouldn't be extra at all and should be included with the system since both Eurocom and Mythlogic are Prema Partners. -
