Received my 870dm sli yesterday from Eurocom, first thing I did was test GPU temp differences and I can say Mr Fox's two min modification to the bottom vents was worth about 5c lol. Bring on the @Prema bios and vbios!
-
If it is PCB layout, they would have had to redesign the internals in the GT80 to accommodate a larger PCB. Can't wait to see next week how the 980 SLI setup in the GT80 looks.
Windows 8/10 > 950 Pro since they support those drivers better.
Windows 7 > 850 Pro since it seems to have trouble working with the 950 Pro.
I'm 99.999% sure it's HDMI 2.0. However I will be 100.000% sure once I receive my laptop and hook it up to my 4K display, so I'll let you know if no one else does.
The 970 uses 4GB 256-bit bus but the famous 3.5GB thing would make it what 224-bit bus? LOL
Clock for clock in realistic situations it's probably 25% faster at most. @Mr. Fox is receiving 980m sli soon maybe he can test them clock for clock to see the difference.
Which display?Last edited: Dec 9, 2015 -
1080p, I use an external 21x9 monitor so no need for 4k with my habits.
-
Just checking because I ordered a month ago and mine still hasn't shipped (4K display). Eurocom said they'll receive more 4K panels this Thursday or Friday so let's see if my laptop ships by Monday or Tuesday.GTVEVO likes this.

Oops, I thought the 970 was default 224 bit and minus 32bit. I was looking at it when it released and thought no way 2 shader block can result in 15% less performance.
-
Still looking for a 980M vbios dump from this machine. Thanks.
-
Thanks. Got it. I see it's locked down as well?
-
Just like a chastity belt. Power limit is in the way also not allowing for stock clocks to even be stable as normal 980m vbios acts which is one of the move frustrating things.

ebay LOL

It's 224 bit 3.5GB plus 32bit 0.5GB (cant be accessed at the same time) on the desktop 970. -
No issues with the machine. Easy to install everything... now for the fun that is setting up. No delidding yet since my old razer is dull.

So anyone had any success in resourcing EC firmware? Guess I will ask Eurocom for some @Mr. Fox can you tell me what version you have that works on yours to eliminate the dynamic cpu clocks?

This is me right now, I just bought the P870DM-G and upgraded from my Surface pro 2 256gb 8gb ram i5 and I still get a lot of use out of my Surface pro 2. It is great to have a portable workstation and also a smaller portable "Tablet" (full blown windows 64bit machine) to work with.electrosoft likes this.

How come yours has the G-Sync sticker and mine doesn't? I have G-Sync as well in my LG screen. Mine is a clevo P870DM-G that I bought from HIDevolution. -
Who puts on the stickers? Is it the factory, or your reseller? One thing that bothers me is that they are on the left side. Your left hand will touch them while gaming and wear them out. As your right hand will be using a mouse, I would like them to be placed on the right side. Is this possible?

Mine only has these:

Exactly. I am currently using an SP Pro 2 the 4gb/128gb i5-4300u and the desktop/laptop in the sig atm. My SP4 arrives today and I was thinking the entire laptop/tablet combo like you. Last time I ran a desktop CPU in a laptop was when I had my D900F years ago (i7-975 / 280) when I did that as my desktop. Great minds think alike.

How are you enjoying it so far, things you dislike?
-
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
I want one of these. Now. My laptop suddenly feels very very inadequate.
-
Just go the Desktop/Laptop Combo! You already have the Laptop, now grab the "Desktop"!

Thats what I thought before I got it and did some benchmarking/overclocking on it.

this laptop looks amazing.

So out to buy that new razer... *whistles a soft tune*
Took me a while to clean off that old paste gunk though. Luckily I had 60% Isopropyl...

EDIT:
Delid done in 3 minutes. This is very easy with a single edge razer. No scratches as far as I can see... all while sitting in car right after a 5 minute trip to OSH.

I know, right. Drives me nuts to have decals on computers. If I actually buy one I am going to ask that they put the decals in the box, or just toss 'em in the trash and not put anything on the laptop. I don't even care to have any branding on the lid if I can avoid it, but the stickers are just way too tacky (pun intended).ajc9988, Papusan, Mr. Spock and 1 other person like this.

lol, show off! waaay more finicky with haswell, had to destroy 2 (cheap-ass lower-tier, luckily) cpus first before i gave up on the razor method and turned to the vice. MOAR POWAH! and bam, delidded the next two successfully (including my current 4790k
)
word, stickers are like analog equivalents to digital bloatware on a new machine
so just like with a clean fresh DIY install i rip off any stickers that unluckily found their way onto the machine before they start to leave any residues (the longer they stick, the more it shows when u finally DO remove them)
i actually tried to get my dark knight without the xmg branding on the lid but...
1) i must say its reaaaaally nicely done and very subtle, basically black on black laser-etched into the material of the lid itself
2) they insisted on keeping the branding on the machine since they already gave me so many extra goodies and lowered the overall prices several times on my order
in the end i can say im very happy with the outcome and the trade-off for "having to" keep the branding was totally worth it! besides, nowadays im more than happy to recommend them to anyone whos looking for great service and nice extended warranty

So a funny story... the amount of CLU I had left was so minimal that I had to squeeze drops from outside of my two brushes just to cover a bit more...
Decided that it may not be enough to even "spread" the paste after install...
Then I ran Prime95 for 15 minutes in order to force it to spread under heat and voila. The following idle temps using stock everything. (Small FFT test)
Ordered more CLU and will probably have to settle with a normal paste on top of IHS (there was a good droplet for the die).Attached Files:

My Phoenix has 0 decals or logos, even under the laptop where the brand of the reseller should be there is blank. Keeps it mysterious, noone knows what the heck is the brand of this beast

Yes, the metal plate on the bottom is nice looking. It reminds me of the AW 17 and 18 metal plate. Does your list specs or anything special, or just all of the regulator compliance stuff and decal with serial number? The review unit I have doesn't have anything I care to know on the plate, but the metal plate itself looks nice. If I buy one, I may see if a local trophy shop can cut a new one using the original as a template and engrave it with something special for me.

-
Yup, pretty much the same thing here. Customize plate would be very nice. (Just save that one in the box in case you need it later.)
"Sky X9 Über-Beast" or something snazzy like that. Maybe "The Grim Reaper" or "Undertaker" would be a good names for it, too.2bad0 likes this. -
aw man id totally go for a DIY engraved plate! total waste of good space for those standard compliance infos

Got mine yesterday and I am loving it. Had a few issues with random hard resets early on in Windows 10, so I thought I'd do a quick CPU stress test in XTU and realized that it wasn't taking much to get high temps. I remembered about undervolting 150mV, did that and redid the test and it cut nearly 20C off my max temp. I also haven't had a single unscheduled reboot since then.
Haven't had much opportunity to game yet, been too busy getting it set up for my office workstation. But what little gaming I've done has been amazing.
My only regret with my office setup is that I bought a CalDigit Thunderbolt 2 dock, but I can't find a TB3/USB-C to TB2 adapter or cable on the market yet.
I'm ahead of my time I guess! Haha.

Yeah, EUROCOM gives me the stickers in a bag. I didnt apply them as they feels weird. Stickers are for machines that needs to show off constantly how great they are. Attention seeking laptops lol.
I dont mind the eurocom branding as I feel like it is not that bad.jaybee83 likes this. -
This machine already has attention grabbing looks. The stickers give it more swag, then turn all lights to a goldish color for that bling too!

Oh come on, I have seen WAY more attention grabbing laptops. Do you know how many ****ty laptops I have seen with like 20 stickers on the lid?jaybee83 likes this.
