I just use 3x8 ddr4 2400Mhz hyperx, i have no problem with it, the problem is when i put the fourth one inside the socket.. To many bluescreen errors
Update: now even with 3x8 i have some problem.. Black screen when i start the laptop..
I just keep the 2133 inside..and it work again perfectly
-
The problem was I couldn't see the Folders or files on the USB Stick. It would load the "Boot Drive" onto the memory I guess for the purpose of installing the drivers (boot.wim) I could see the files on that under the Windows/system32/driver store/file repository branch but it wouldn't read them correctly. none of the other files on the USB Stick were available because it wouldn't read the USB 2.0 any longer.ajc9988 likes this.

Oh, I know who Prema is lol. I've used his works of art before. I just had never heard of the partnering and official support for his great works before so I was curious how it worked and which vendors officially supported it. I see Mythlogic supports it (but Xotic and Gentech do not
), and that was my top three vendor list so that works for me!
-
I have the hyperX 2400mhz ram 8x2 and so far no issues. My fingers are crossed now after reading some others experience.
-
The memory I use are the samsung 8GB 2133mhz ram (M471A1G43DB0-CPB) 4x8. The computer came with the OS configured and worked fine after setup. I used the Samsung migration tool to move my OS over to my 950 pro SSD.
However I tried swapping in the new G.skill 2666MHz ram (4×16) and that's when the issue started. Tried going back to the original RAM and still the same problem. :/ I doubt I screwed up that bad. Now I've taken the CMOS battery out and the system battery hoping that helps.
Any other suggestions, please? -
Is there any consensus here about undervolting with Stock BIOS and XTU? I've seen 1.17V / Static and 1V / Static most batted around.
-
-
Neato! At least I already have the 2666 ram the extreme version features (lol, if I could get it to work) and I bought a 4k panel which is on its way.
Now it's just 980 SLI and this'll be the perfect gaming/workstation machine for me. But for now I'll keep trying to get phoenix to play nice and boot again. XD

I don't think it is the 200W version..
For sure will be the 120 or 180W -
Yeah, I know. The 200w version is a bit too big for proper SLI. I imagine the 120w to 180w editions are around or exactly the same size as a standard MXM mobile card. We'll find out soon enough.
-
180W is a tad longer than standard mxm, whereas the "120w" is the mystery card in the msi gt80 which no one has seen yet (and no one knows for sure what tdp envelope it sports, 120w is just a guess thus far). both the 180W and 150W (msi gt72) versions are within 5% of the 200W model, performance wise, so should be great to have the former in the sli version
the 150w msi version is non mxm as well btw but its got a completely fankensteined form factor... (not just "longer" or "wider" than mxm but kinda....L-shaped
)

Just noticed Sager's website took down all the selections for 2400mhz HyperX. Not sure when they exactly pulled it since that option was still available as of 2 weeks ago on their website.
I suspect resellers will follow suit, until they sort it out.
Edit: XoticPC which is where I ordered from, has now removed the 2400mhz HyperX option. Other resellers (LPC Digital etc.) have completely removed the option as well.
Edit2: I've now sent a lengthy e-mail to Eric at XoticPC which I'll detail later once I get a response. I've been corresponding with him for the past 2 weeks and he's been pretty good about getting back to me in a timely manner, so we'll see what comes of it.

Pretty good prospects. Just to test the waters, I messaged CEG this about the SLI 980 edition:
"Hi. I've noticed you've created a page for the clevo p870dm extreme edition and was curious about the 980 SLI option. Which version(s) of the 980 desktop edition are included with this chassis? 120w, 180w, or 200w? And is it the same size/width of a standard MXM B. mobile graphics card? Thank you."
Their response? Received from my email (with some formatting adjustment because it was really spaced out):
"Hi. Thank you for interesting. So long as we do not publicate information about this Extreme Edition – we cannot say nothing."
So they'll remain tight-lipped...not a surprise.hmscott, TomJGX, jaybee83 and 1 other person like this. -

-
Yeah on my live chat with them they told me absolutely nothing. TBH I'll be happy with 980m's. Looks very good though, if clevo come out with another model that can take a 6 core cpu and 980 SLI ....you will need no other system for absolutely years. I like to upgrade, can't wait that longDreDre likes this.

OK, the issue is either (1) that slot on the motherboard is bad; or, (2) that stick, if it is one and only one stick that always causes issues. I think @TomJGX already mentioned that possibility. Try mixing up the 3 SO-DIMM chips and using different slots. It has to be one of the modules or that one slot on the motherboard.
You should have no issues, and should be able to add two more later, and have plug and play support AT 2400.
The BIOS does not have pre-stored SPD for 2666 or higher because there is not enough space in the RAM tables for that many, but manual settings (with an unlocked BIOS) support up to 2666. You will not be able to boot with 2666 RAM due to the missing SPD information. However, you should be able to use that RAM once you have an unlocked BIOS because you set 2666 manually with one stick installed of 2133 and one of 2666, save settings and power off, then replace the stick of 2133 with 2666. All you have to change is the multiplier from a 9 to 10 at 133MHz and it should POST and run fine.
PremaMod final edition is almost ready. Putting final touches on it.
Already validated 4.8GHz stable! WOOT! http://valid.x86.fr/nd4ldu
@Matrix Leader - look buddy... @Prema BIOS FTW... already got this turned on in the BIOS.

Man! you are making me drool and want this BIOS more and more. This laptop should NOT be sold without this BIOS as it strips it down from all its potential IMO.
What are the news on the public release date man? When is this torture gonna end?
PS: will it have the updated EC to fix the throttling issue? -

So far so good. Just ordered my P870M-G. It's a wee bit more expensive as my AW was so I had to keep some things low. Can upgrade them later lol. 6700K, GTX980, FHD G-Sync, 16Gig 2133 Ram, 1TB Seagate SSHD. Will use my 840 EVO in a 2,5" Case as System Disk. Ram will have to wait until those Problems are solved. PCIe SSD when they are a little bit cheaper.

Looking great! Can't wait for the final version to be out. Been a lurker here over the past two or so months reading up on the updates. Is sometime this week as an ETA too much of a stretch? ;-) So on and so I'll try one card at a time so hopefully my phoenix can stop stalling and resurrect itself like they're known for... XD

I see why it was taking you so long to process the USB image. Look at your photo, where it says Images detected, It says 3 and it was working on #1. Your copy of Win7 has more options on it like Home, Premium and Ultimate. It's putting the drivers on all of the images so they will all work. That would probably take about an hour or so. My Win7 image has only Ultimate on it, therefore only 1 install.wim and 1 boot.wim file. That's why mine was faster.hmscott, CaerCadarn, Spartan@HIDevolution and 1 other person like this.

yeah maybe but I'm gonna suck it up and stay with Windows 10, it was a big mess getting all those updates, integrating them, and even without the USB driver integration, the USB Flash Disk after I created it with RUFUS didn't even boot, gave me an error that some boot files are missing. Hey guys... I have been posting in the MSI Titan thread and figured I would come over here to check things out. I am really torn between this beast with a 6700k and either 980 desktop or 980m sli vs the Titan with 6820hk and 980m sli or the 6920hq with the dual desktop 980's. I really need some guidance!!

Mr Fox i did some test and i found that i don't have any problems with sockets,
I have just one faulty module.
Ill give back that module, for now i stay with 24 GB that is more than enough -
This is the better machine I'd say. If you are waiting to buy it, you may want to wait until the dual 980s become an option. The desktop CPU will also be best if overclocking the CPU. I'll have you know that the 6920HQ is ONLY 3.4GHz on 4-core turbo, and cannot be overclocked in any way from what I know.ajc9988 likes this.
-
I was looking to buy from GenTech and they have the Clevo with the 6700k I guess pre OCed to 4ghz. They have the same 6700k for 50 dollars less at a lower clock speed. I would probably get it pre OCed and leave it at 4. This may sound like a dumb question but let's say I don't wait for the 980 desktop sli setup. Would it be better to go with the Clevo with 980m sli or the single 980 desktop card?
-
??? The base clock on the i7-6700k is 4GHz with 4.2 GHz max turbo speed. Not sure if they have a mistake or are trying to pull something with consumers. In any case, http://ark.intel.com/products/88195/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz for addtl info.
980m SLI is outperforming the 980 desktop single card config by 10 to 15%. (At least that is what I recall seeing.) The caveat is higher temps and power consumption, and there's always the issue that not all games utilize SLI.ajc9988 likes this. -
Hmm if you take a look at the page... one is as your link shows, and on is 3.4 with boost to 4. However one is also 65w vs the other which is 91w. I am not sure why you would save 50 just to pick the weaker of the two. Unless having a lowered powered version is there for a reason?
-
This is why I am unsure which way to go.. I think I am starting to lean towards the Clevo vs the MSI for the sheer fact of getting the 6700k... but now I have to decide on 980m sli vs single 980 desktop. I don't think I want to wait for the 18 inch Clevo with the two desktop 980s. Also I want to make sure the dual 980m setup will offer enough power for those cards and the 6700k.
-
The i7-6700K has a default 4GHz 4-core multiplier. It's not overclocked out of the box. You can overclock further if you want. Even the i7-6700 is at 3.7GHz with its 4-core turbo, and is superior to the i7-6920HQ.
Much more than that. 980M SLI outperforms a Titan X out of the box.
The i7-6700 is 3.4GHz with 3.7GHz 4-core turbo (4GHz 1-core turbo). The i7-6700 K has a 4GHz base clock, and turbos to 4.2GHz on a single core ONLY. 2-core through 4-core loads it does not turbo at all. It is also overclockable, unlike the 6700.
It depends on you. Considering how most new AAA titles are bad with or don't use SLI, I would actually tell you getting a single 980 and overclocking it heavily is the better idea. If a game uses Unreal Engine 4 or Unity Engine 5 or simply is coded badly (Batman Arkham Knight, Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, etc) you will simply be limited to a single 980M, which is significantly weaker than the desktop 980, even at max OC potentials (since the 980 can be OC'd more heavily and have it be stable; 980Ms can't usually sit at 1440MHz core 24/7 as something on them overheats and crashes, but the 980 can).
Do note that SLI 980 situation will likely require dual-PSU for almost all usage scenarios =DCaerCadarn and LoneSyndal like this. -
The 3.4 GHz is for a i7-6700. This is a different CPU than the i7-6700K. They're not the same. The "K" on the end signifies the model for enthusiasts and those wanting to push the CPU a bit more.Last edited: Dec 13, 2015

Unless you have some insider knowledge, AFAIK, there is no 18" Clevo model on the horizon. So there's no need to wait. Again, maybe someone else has info that I've not seen here.
-
Ton of information wow! Ok so lets start with the CPU. I didn't even see the missing K on the other card.. that answers that question and clears things up. I would definitely go with the 6700k and the base clock should be more than enough for what i'm looking for. As far as 980m sli vs desktop 980... I have an Alienware with a single 980m now. The few games I am unable to max out with satisfying FPS are Far Cry 4, Metro Last Light, and Witcher 3. From what I read those all support SLI and the games that don't will support it soon. I honestly have no idea what games don't support SLI since I never had a SLI setup.
I am not sure how the 980 desktop version fairs with the few games I have trouble with now. I don't know if going with the desktop version for the games I play is worth it over the sli. The fact that you say 980m sli is as good or better than a Titan X makes me lean towards that as my choice. You mentioned using 2 psu's? Do you mean for a laptop I would need 2 to run 980m sli? That last part confused me :/ -
In regards to 2 PSUs, the Clevo vendor should have an option for an additional power unit and a converter/adapter box. This setup will let you double the power supplies giving the laptop enough power ( well over 500 watts if you start pushing the power requirements thru overclock, laptop components, etc. ) the power it needs to run multiple GPUs as well as leave room for overclocking them as well as the CPU.
See http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/ac_dongle_2-jpg.59761/ for an example.Last edited: Dec 13, 2015 -
If overclocking your CPU and both GPUs you may find it necessary. Stock it won't be, most likely. And I meant 980 SLI would likely require dual PSU
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The 980M SLI setup benchmarks around a Titan-X yes, though the gaming on the titan-x would be better.
However it comes down to the games, with SLI support 980M > 980 desktop. Otherwise the 980 desktop would obviously win.DreDre likes this. -
Do you guys think there would be any issue mixing ram types? Mine from eurocom came with Micron 16gb Module Part Number: 16ATF1G64HZ-2G1A2
I'm thinking of adding another 16gb, think there would be an issue if I drop G.skill or Hyperx in there? -
Ok so if I go with the 6700k with 980m sli I should be ok overclocking using the one 330 psu that it comes with? (I'm guessing it comes with a 330)
-
Is there a list somewhere of what newer games support or don't support sli?
-
You will be ok for a little depending on how hard you push the CPU and GPU but you won't get real far. The brick will shut down at 440 watts from the wall and this can happen pretty quickly if you have the correct performance adders.
