LOL, nope, as in, "strange I know, but incorrect assumption"
I like you was thinking this is the best future proof machine in terms of upgrading since it doesn't have the GPU or CPU soldered onto the motherboard, but as it stands, rumors say that the next gen CPUs will not be compatible with the current socket and noone knows if Pascal (the next GPU from nVIDIA) will support the same MXM socket. I know it's sad, but it seems all companies are on a war against the consumers to not have them upgrade in the future buy buy full new systems instead.
Either ways, at this point, this is the most powerful laptop in the world. Nothing even comes close.
I don't play the waiting game, I just buy whatever is the best at the time I need a laptop and be done with it.Papusan likes this. -
As I have still this damned warped CPU-Heatsink, I didn't started full benching yet. I only did a run on stock clock once:

By pumping the cards to +380/+60 you should have had a better result. +1,5k with these settings seems waaay to low.
Assuming you are running everything on stock (v)BIOS it sounds like severe throttling.
Can you upload your result please?

Double post, sorry!

I'll do another run and post it. I have flashed the modded vBios from Prema and it shows it is installed so throttling shouldn't be a problem.

If the demo unit nvidia displayed at CES was in fact, a legitimate demo unit(How sad is it that I have to say this...), it looks like 980M MXM and Pascal MXM would both fit on it. Since nvidia was in fact using m5000m/980m on it despite claiming it was pascal. Then it looks like at least the cards will physically fit on the board.
It looks like my machine is on its way to being shipped back to me now. Everything should be ok now
Extra shoutout to @Prema and @Mr. Fox for helping with throughout the process. Both are awesome people who will definitely try to help you with any technical issues on this machine.MadHatter74 and TomJGX like this. -

I hope, not trying to be pessimistic here -
I stopped home on my dinner break to receive my laptop! Safe and sound in my room and I opened it to make sure all looked well. Didn't even get a chance to turn it on! So after work its bourbon and setup time!

If I didn't have to go back to work and leave it home I would have! Trust me I stared at the power button knowing I had to leave in 3 minutes. Painful experience.

I have been pretty much just staring at the desktop I don't even know where to start... ok so keyboard early thoughts... yes it IS small, however is is horrible? Absolutely not... I will need to get used to spacing and everything or lack of I should say, but it is very responsive and it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Speakers?? WOW! Just WOW! I can't begin to stress how great this thing sounds... I was so let down by my latest alienware but this absolutely blows me away. Incredible! What to do next? Man I have a lot to transfer over :/

So for the 980 card what would be a solid OC on stock voltage?
-
The standard +135/+300 should be doable! Just try it out.
Gesendet von meinem LG-H955 mit Tapatalk -
I would not OC vram for real use.
For benches, NVM but if you are considering 7/24 OC, I'd not recommend vram OC.Ashtrix likes this. -
Yea, that is one thing that surprised me was the speakers. I use a create recon 3d sound card and headset, but while installing them I was using the laptop speakers and they were surprisingly good.
-
Why that? Is this due of lacking increase of fps when ocing vram?
Gesendet von meinem LG-H955 mit Tapatalk -
You can't monitor vRAM temps unlike core.. What happens if you OC them too much and they burn out? OCing VRAM a lot 24/7 is not a good idea because of that and also because it isn't as resilient as the core!Ashtrix, Spartan@HIDevolution, CaerCadarn and 1 other person like this.

I'm using 359.06 Drivers and Prema's modded vBios. -
My Mythlogic machine came with 359.14. Not sure the difference.
Sent from my XT1580 using Tapatalk -
The VRAM is usually covered by the same heat plate as the GPU, and likely runs close to the measured / monitored GPU temperature.
You can OC the VRAM just like the GPU Core, and gain some performance from it.
Most GPU cores on limited vbio's can OC to +135, but some can't - my 980m likes +125 for all software, some will run fine up to +135, but not all.
My 980m GPU VRAM can OC to +325 for everything, and is completely stable, no problems. Even with batch CUDA compute jobs running for hours there are no computational errors or temperature problems.
I have OC'd the last 5 laptops on both GPU core and GPU VRAM without a single GPU/VRAM failure.
In fact OC'ing my VRAM found a marginal AMD GPU MXM early on, if I hadn't done that it might have failed outside of warranty.
If you are talking about unlocking the vBIOS and playing with voltages, then your warning is good for both the GPU core and VRAM, be very careful
I don't play lightly with warnings, but in your case I will make an exception. Empirical data shows you are being too paranoid.
Unless you have some concrete examples?Last edited: Jan 21, 2016Ashtrix, TomJGX and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Did your Mythlogic Phobos come with the Prema VBIOS for the GPU(s) or it had the stock nVIDIA VBIOS? -
If you can tell me how to check i would love to on my dinner break. Still learning about all this!

Guys what do you think of what this d00d called Joker is saying about the desktop 980 thermal throttling?
He is saying that when benchmarking or running a game for a few seconds you may get awesome scores, but most likely it will throttle after prolonged periods of gaming.
Is that true for the 980 Desktop version in the P870DM laptop or he doesn't have an idea what he's talking about?
-
That guy obviously does not own a P870DM with a GTX 980. You will be fine.

talked to eurocom sales, confirmed that there will be a eurocom x9 with dual desktop gpus soon.

I kid I kid

Could just sell the whole laptop

Says a guy blogging about another guys experience and what he worries about. He has no idea in other words so don't be worried. If this was a real issue it would have come up with Mr Foxes testing along with every other customer.
So a real blogger that knows his stuff says below in the comments FYI.

"You dont hear us talking about Thermal Throttling because of all of the testing and hands on experience we had with them, it wasnt throttling! I overclocked one of these laptops to 1480mhz and the GPU did NOT throttle. I usually like your videos a lot, but you really shouldnt have made an entire video about something you are speculating on, because in this instance, you are a bit off. These ODMs have cooling in check. End of story."Last edited: Jan 21, 2016TomJGX, Papusan, CaerCadarn and 4 others like this. -
Now we are talking, might have to make a purchase earlier than I expected depending upon how they test out.
-
Gtx 980 seems to be pretty overpriced imo. Either that or CAD is so bad.

So guys, my Eurocom Sky X9 is still being built by HIDevolution as Eurocom sent them the system with only the CPU + GPU installed, seems like they are very busy it might take another day or two till they ship it out
Anyway, I ordered the system with a 6700K + Desktop 980 GTX. I also ordered a dual 330W Adapter, would it be of any benefit if I use both adapters together connected with that lil' thingie or since it's only 1 GPU it would yield no benefit? I am only concerned about throttling of the CPU/GPU. I won't be overclocking just want the system to run at the 4.0/4.2 advertised speed. It will have the PREMA BIOS in it supposedly.USMC578 likes this. -
^See if the second adapter helps by testing the system. If not, sell it.
I am getting my machine on monday. So we are in the same boat
hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
I ordered the same setup though Mythlogic.. They said the dual setup is required if OCing both the CPU and GPU. If just a mild GPU over clock my understanding is you won't need the second. However I'm also hearing using both together will be less stress per psu and better for the life of each.

thanks bro, ill hook them both up then -
This machine doest stop "impressing" me ( note the sarcasm ) once i stopped pondering the issue of the 1 dollar cheap keyboard and got over it and decided, oh well lets try the machine, now i find out it doesnt even come with an internal logical drive, so you need to have an external one. Are we rolling back to the stone age? Is the whole "portability"' of the laptop being forgotten? AW with that stupid extra "tower" to be able to have more GPU power, Clevo/sager. Origin, no internal optical drives, cheap 15 inch keyboards on their 17 inch. MSI, looks like developers where upside down when designing it, no palm rest but half the laptop has an empty space above the keyboard. Jesus Lord what happened with compacted, neat, all included, laptops? Thought we were going into the ( smaller pieces technology for more space and stuff ) looks like we are going to end having to use bigfoot modems in a few years again.. SMH
Anyhows, does the clevo/sager from mythologic comes with the Prema Bios or not?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

I hear you, this is the worst keyboard I have ever had on any laptop in my entire life. Even after using the laptop for 1 month, I cannot for the life of me type a single sentence without making mistakes! Mind you, I have very small girly hands!
Yes, Mythlogic and Eurocom come with the Prema BIOS. With Eurocom you have to tell them that you want it. With Mythlogic, it has their branding but has the same options / customizations.
Please buy a Eurocom. -
As promised!

looks like a stock VBIOS to me, can anyone confirm? -
Dont think Ill go Eurocom since its in canada.. Ill have to settle with Mythologic since its in Florida and I am in NY. So i need not tell them i want prema BIOS on the system? Its automatic? Also when selecting the free IC Diamond thermal compound would be applied on both the GPU'S if I select the SLI ones?Last edited: Jan 21, 2016

With Mythlogic The BIOS îs standard s-o you dont need to tell them anything.
IC Diamond îs standard on all GPUs+ CPU brah
Also, avoid SLI i hâd The same Laptop recently and if you have vigilențe eyes like me you will notice the microstuttering and SLI support hasnt been great lately -
Hmm first one whos stated not to get the SLI config.. Now im even MORE confused... The whole reason im looking at clevo/sager is the SLI thing. If it really is a problem then id go with MSI gt72 that at least has its internal optical drive.
How is their return policy? In case im not satisfied?hmscott likes this. -
I believe the 980 stock bios is nowhere near as bad as the 980m stock bios in terms of restrictions and such. I think you should be ok here. @Firebat246
Oh, ehem, @Phoenix mind if I post a video of gaming on my laptop once I get it and see if you can spot out any microstutterings for me? I legitimately cant see the difference coming from single 780 ti before.GTVEVO likes this. -
Mythlogic told me the bios is in coordination with Prema so I don't know exactly what they mean by the assured 0 throttling.
