@Prema could you please add the P775dm1 service manual to your site. The p870dm manual was pretty enlightening but 75x and 77x ones have left out some interesting bits(some of the pages and images are ripped of from the zm manuals
). Thanks in advance.
The lack of owners lounge, and interest(relatively) for the 775 still puzzles me.

My ASIC is reading 73.4%. Does that help any?
-
Go up by +20mhz on core and you can probably get away with +50mhz on vram in the beginning until you hit instability, then go back to the known good configuration or see if adding voltage helps if your temp/etc is good.
-
My problem is (and this is mostly in world of warcraft for some reason) is that I am hitting 92c on the GPU. In other games it never gets that high with the OC I have... but I do gain like 8fps in WoW with the OC I have. So I am wondering if I should be able to get away with a lower voltage than +50mV. I recall having driver crashes with lower voltage... but I see so many people getting stock voltage OC as good as +130 core. So I am confused.
-
Every gpu is different. ASIC is only a small indicator of quality. If your temp is so bad, you could max out the fan or revert back to stock at stock voltages. Having to deal with crashes/instabilities/etc are the entry price for additional performance. If you dont want to deal with it, you dont have to play. I am sure 980 desktop is enough for most things for now.
ASIC value essentially means define what voltage is needed to maintain a certain clock and leakage. Higher ASIC=higher leakage=higher temp =lower voltage to maintain stock clock. Higher asic cards dont scale well with voltage as lower asic card do but they tend to clock higher at a given voltage when compared lower asic. Higher asic cards also tends to run hotter on higher voltage as well. There is a post by kingpin on Overclock.net that explained maxwell asic rating pretty well. I suggest you take a look if you have the time.
I cant tell you exactly what OC setting to use, no one who havent worked with your system knows that. Your best chance is to ask @Mr. Fox . He been overclocking 980 desktop in this machine and he probably knows more about overclocking it then anyone else in this forum.Last edited: Feb 4, 2016 -
Well that still gives me some insight thank you! Also.. I recently had my intel management software updated. I know that can effect my CPU but could it also effect the gpu? I have been using my same OC i was using prior to upgrading the ME.
-
Do you notice any difference? If not, probably not. Just wondering, what clock does your card to boost to on default. 1300mhz+?
-
No it boosts to 1228 stock. I really wanted to be up at 1400mhz stable with decent temps. Just trying to figure out how to get there. I have been at the 130+ stable with +50mV but in WoW I'll get to thermal throttle point. In witcher I'll be around 82 for example. I bumped the voltage down one notch and I'm testing some games now with the 130/50 oc

Whats your gpu usage in wow?
-
WoW, Witcher, and Watch Dogs are all pretty much 99% all the time.
-
I would imagine wow is more CPU dependent but whatever. The only thing I can think of is that wow have very very constant load. What fps you are getting anyways in wow?
-
WoW Is anywhere from 50-75 (capped at 75) depending where I am. WoW Definitely runs hotter than any other game. I like to have one OC for all games.. and the few times WoW drops to lower fps that OC keeps it from going too low (for my eyes at least)

I would try it with 100% fan, clevo default fan profile isnt perfect.Sebastiao Liparizi Neto likes this.

Hi again.
Now I have new one:
I noticed that on this new OS install, my CPU is throttling a lot. First I noticed that playing Witcher I could never have more than around 60% GPU usage, and My CPU was being used up to 70%, so my fps droped a lot.
Then o CPU-Z I noticed that my CPU kept throttling a lot, and not staying in the setted stactic voltage (1150mv) nor on the setted frequency (tried from x40 to x42).
Edit: Forgot to say: I have Prema Bios, so this shouldn't be happening, and it wasn't happening on the first OS install, the one with the buggy login.Last edited: Feb 4, 2016 -
Simply having the BIOS does not make the CPU run better. You have to use custom setting to accomplish that. If you have enabled overclocking on the Overclocking Performance Menu, you will need to increase settings for Turbo Power Max and Turbo Short Power Max because setting the overclocking feature to enabled will make those values too low by default. You will want to set both of them to about 125000 each for stock or a minor overclock.Sebastiao Liparizi Neto and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Using the exact same settings but only difference is I set the CPU Ratios to 44 instead of 47, I see my CPU (all cores) jumping between 4.4 GHz and 1.8-2.2 GHz
I copied every thing you did, same voltages, current limits, Turbo Power Max...

Stock Voltage (Adaptive), Turbo Power Max and Turbo Short Power Max set to 125,000. CPU Multipliers @ 42,41,41,41
Throttling like heck and temps reaching 100C.....Sebastiao Liparizi Neto likes this. -
What test are you seeing bouncing clock speeds? If you did the settings identical, the voltage is way too high for 4.4GHz. All the other settings are fine, but you need to back way off on the voltage.
For 4.3GHz you can set the OC Max to 80 and leave Adaptive and everything else set on zero on the Processor menu (basically BIOS defaults except for setting 80 on that menu). On the Ring menu, set 43 max/43 min and leave everything else set to zero.
I just did that and pulled a 10.44 in Cinebench R11.5 at 4.3GHz core and ring and the CPU never flinched at all... rock solid. And, max temp was 73°C.
Let me take a screen shot.
Edit: here it is...

I saws the bouncing clocks without any test, just launched HWMonitor and saw the clocks fluctuating between 2 GHz and 4.4GHz
I redid all the settings that you have showed me before for the 4.2 GHz on all cores and it's better now...
The diff. between this laptop and the previous one was CLU now I regret that I didn't opt for CLU as the temps are relatively higher than IC Diamond. I think I will repaste with CLU again soon...
This screenshot is with an Adaptive voltage with a negative offset of 140

BTW, what voltage would you recommend for a 4.2 GHz, 4.3 GHz, and 4.4 GHz overclock respectively?

Changed the negative offset from -140mV to -150mV and it made a big difference....4.2GHz on all cores / 42 Cache Ratio / 2400 MHz memory overclock
Will post all the settings soon as screenshots:

I literally leave mine on 47x4 all of the time, so I have not done much testing at 4.3GHz simply because I don't need to run it that slow. But, I just got the same score and same temps using the settings shown below, and everything else as you saw in the video except for those settings and the multis at 43x4. I don't use offsets. I did not use them on Haswell either.

Right, explain to me this Ring Ratio thing bro, I used to set it to 42 Max but I just noticed on the right it says in the description that the value ranges from 0-80 and something saying MSR so I was thinking maybe if I set it to 42 it's not actually 4200 MHz? Remember one time you were doing some calculations with regards to the VR Current limit and you chose a value of 640 for me.... so is this Ring Ratio the same or just set it to the multiplier Ratio I want and forget it? reason I ask because I noticed you set the max CPU Ratio to 80.
PS: Don't forget that your CPU is delidded and mine is not so what seems like a 24/7 OC for you or even a slow OC could mean it's a huge overclock that may not even work on my non delidded CPU with IC Diamond. If I don't do that negative offset 150mV, even @ 4.2 GHz my CPU reaches north of 99C and throttles like heckSebastiao Liparizi Neto likes this. -

I just wake up.
Trying that now ;-) -
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
Still happening =(
I don't know anymore if its a throttling issue though.
what happens is:
Before, I could use 99% of both GPUs playing withcher 3 and Fallout4, now it fluctuates between 50 and 70%, my CPU usage before was around 30% now it goes 50-70%. Where I once got 90fps on Withcher 3 alll Ultra Maxed, now I'm geting 40-55. Same on fallout... -
CPU bottlenecked?
-
The only thing I am wondering is if someone has figured out a way to lower the core VID when you are at idle and set to max power per say above 4.5ghz. The idle voltage will hit 1.4+ volts yet when under loads it needs much less to be stable? In some cases when testing 4.7 and 4.8 ghz the system will revert and down clock its self to 4.1ghz after it hits around 1.5v at idle and not under load which is a bummer.
-
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
It would seem that, but it can't be because it wasn't happening before.
Also, on both game menus, the game keeps working and being rendered below it. and during the menus, the Processor usage drops and fps raises. But during loading (without the game being rendered) the processor usage is already over 66% -
Are you using TS or purely values of the bios? If you arent you should set your BIOS back to stock and re-enter you power values but leave your clock speeds at x40. Next make all your changes over in TS and see if it will hold? -
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
Thats actually what I did. I'm setting values on BIOS, and I setted everything to default and only dialed the power values as you said.
I'm thinking about clearing CMOS but i'm trying to avoid that if I find a solution before... -
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
I'm thinking the CPU DID throttled before, as it was way cooler than it is now (after the 125000 power limit), but now, something is making it load much more "something" during gaming what it didn't before. I would say its some mod or whatever, but it happens the same on Fallout 4
-
Right but are you using Throttle Stop with the actual core settings and power settings as well?
-
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
I'm not using Throttle Stop at all -
I would suggest giving it a test, I bet your clocks will hold once you have it configured.
-
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
Oh, I will. But now I'm just convinced its not a throttling issue. I believe the CPU load is just higher than it should be, what is compromizing the GPU usage as a bottleneck as you suggested.
But what is causing these higher loads I need to find out (if I'm right).
I'll conect a second monitor and run task manager on it while the game plays on the main one. -
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
I have a work call now, but after, I might just install a different vesion video driver e see what happens too.
I'll try that later and report back. -
Guys, I have a problem with my laptop! I just booted it today and white lines started showing all over the screen, I went into the device manager and noticed that my GTX 980 has an error so I disabled it to fix this problem, I haven't had this laptop for a month and it's already having problems! Can anyone help me please?

Reboot to stock and run some games to see if it still artifacts. -
Oh no that looks like a bad gpu to me if I am being honest.

Ya because of the resolution and it working internally most likely, I would get an RMA going quickly.
-
I guess it would be something like, "Your panel is broken and its the problem". Its painful to see that on a new device as I saw it on a 980m machine a few weeks back.Mr. Spock likes this.
-
@Syystole
Actually, I have seen that same problem be either a broken panel/interface, a bad cable, or a bad GPU, honestly
Next time it happens try tapping the panel a bit - softly - grab it from a corner and tip it back and forth - wiggle it - and see if it's a physical connection issue. You could also try picking up the laptop and shaking it.
It's most likely a marginal GPU / GPU memory.
Good luck

Can you tell me where the gpu is when I open the laptop? I've never taken it apart before
-
Sorry man but if you have to ask I wouldn't recommend taking it apart especially if you are going to return the system for and RMA. They will want the entire system to check all hardware and be sure nothing else is failing or causing the GPU to fail.
-
At the GPU it is likely not a bad connection there - the MXM connector fit / mount is solid. A flakey MXM GPU would need to be replaced with a new one.
If it's a bad panel / cable, it would be inside the display section, or cable connection from it to the motherboard - something for the vendor to check out when RMA'd
As GTVEVO says, leave it for RMA - any detailed feedback you can give them to focus on the exact symptom / area will help speed up the RMA process.
Describe to them how to re-create the problem / symptom. Mention if physical movement causes changes in the displayed image - indicating a loose cable / connection.
Here are some disassembly / review video's to watch, thanks to @HTWingNut - for educational purposes only

One easy way to find is to see if the artifact on the screen on consistent when you try playing a game or something. If it is an issue with the GPU, it will crashes or it will artifact like mad.
Edit:Just remember you said your 980 had an error message. So probably the GPU.Last edited: Feb 4, 2016
