All righty then... back on topic. Single GTX 980 (200W) under Windows 7... sweet. Almost 14K physics score compared to just a little over 13K under Windows 8.1 and less than 13K under Windows 10.

I am developing a tolerance for it. I still prefer the 1080p screen. 175% scaling would be great if it would work, but forcing it causes Windows explorer.exe to crash for some reason. All of the other 4K screens I have used are less than 17 inch, so it's not as miserable as it is with a smaller screen.

The worst thing about it is I cannot overclock it even a little bit. Any attempt to run it higher than 60Hz causes the screen to go black for some reason.

Have you tried odd sizes? I am at 113% on 1080p, to make up for viewing distance, and it's clearer to me than 125%...

Yes. My preference is 100% scaling, on any screen, but it's almost impossible to read text at 4K with 100% on a smalled screen like this.

How is that 4k screen when running at 1080p? Clear enough for text, gaming, etc?

Does that hold true for lower resolutions too with the overclocking? With 4k panels the controller is under a lot more stress to drive them all to be fair, even lowing it to 1080p it still needs to update all the pixels.

I do not. I'd bet they have it and would be willing to email it to you.

I suspected that might be the case. So far, I have had some of my best benchmark scores since installing the 4K display. That may be due to firmware tweaks and the absence of G-SYNC are enough to offset that load and make up the difference.

I think you qualify for the Sky X9E :D
Thats literally my UEFI boot image.

On that note, I am getting a targus groove 17 for 30CAD and another 16GB of Kingston 2400mhz CL14 RAM. I noticed VM likes ram so my original 8gb may not be enough.

Hi I'm a newbie here but I'm looking at buying a kickass new laptop. The P870DM-G in particular, but I have one reservation. Is there any reason why its nigh on impossible to find a 4k panel with this machine anywhere that uses G-Sync.

Forgive the ignorance but surely with 2 x gtx 980m in sli its more than enough to game at 4k up to 60fps ,

I really wanna pull the trigger on this laptop but cant find one with the following:

    4K Gsync panel
    2x 980m in SLI
    17.6" screen

any advice is much appreciated , you guys seem to know your stuff

    thanks

    Martin

First of all, there is no 17.6" screen, its 17.3"

Secondly, you either choose a 4K screen with no GSYNC with a 60 hz refresh rate or an FHD IPS screen with GSYNC that comes with a 75hz refresh rate from the factory

    Really?

G-sync does have that performance penalty, but that should go away if you turn it off on a display that has it.

Regarding gaming at max settings g-sync for notebooks is imho one of the best things that could happen in years. For benching you can turn it off.

Hello, I have read few pages in this forum and in some others. I have a XMG U726 (Clevo P870DM-G) with a 6700K and a GTX980 8GB, Display is 1920x1080 with G-Sync. Next 64 GB are installed DDR4 2133MHz Samsung, 2xSamsung NVMe SM951 512GB and 2xSamsung 850 EVO 1TB. BIOS version is currently the 1.05.04a from mysyn.de site, the data of my Video Card look like this:

I read a lot about the benefits of PREMA MOD, but have no outline of the existing deals, which best version I find where to download? Is there both the BIOS and the VBIOS suitably optimized versions? Thanks in advance

I think the vbios on Premas site is the newest version. For bios we unfortunately have to wait for a download option.

Thanks for information, but i found only vBIOS fpr 970M or 980M, not for a 980 with G-Sync...and please can anyone help: What is the difference between DM, PM and ZM, what does it mean?

    I'm catching you slowly..... ;)

On the Graphics portion of FS I'm not able to get any more out of it. If I push any of the settings +1 I get a Driver Crash. If I push the Voltage to +137.5mV on either Card the system shuts down. The only place I seem to have a little wiggle room is with the Physics Score. I've OC'd the Processor to almost 4.5 Mhz but there's too many settings that I don't understand to try and push it any higher. The 82° Processor temp is the higest I've ever had, never seen it go above 74° since the Delid and polishing mods. The Graphics Card temps. are really nice though, I've never had them go above 62° nor be more than 4°from each other since the polish and repaste.

Any body out there that can chime in with some advise on what to do in TS would be appreicated. Here's the settings I'm using at the moment.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I never really gave Benchmarking and OC'ing much thought in the past but since I got this Machine and started hanging out on this Thread it's strangely become a higher priority..... :bigconfused: This s#*t's worse than Crack......

Edit: Uploaded the wrong pictures. Made TS setting pictures larger.

what are your settings to achieve that 4.4 GHz clock? the images you provided are too small anyway

Did you overclock via XTU or BIOS? please share your settings

I made the pictures larger. I only overclocked with TS. Don't have a Prema Bios (yet...).

I set the Multiplier to 45T
Set the Turbo Ratio Limits to 45 on all 4 Cores
    CPU Core Voltages Tab:
Set CPU Voltage to 1.1309V Static / 0V offset
Set the Cache Ratio to 46 (on the Right side under the white box)
    CPU Cache Voltages Tab:
Set Cache Voltage to 1.1309V Adaptive / 0V offset
Set Cache Ratio Slider to 45 (middle column bottom)
    Turbo Power Limits Tab:
Set the Package Power Limits to Max. 122W (from 120W)
Reduced Turbo Power Limit Slider from 8 to 1

I have no Idea if they are correct or not, I was just "Trying out stuff" and it seemed to work...

ZMs are older (z97) models. Your model belongs to the DM (z170) series. The 980 vBIOS is probably still reserved for partner shops so you'll have to wait till public release. @Prema is there a fixed release date?

    I completely agree!

Yesterday night playing witcher With everything maxed, I was amazed by the horse neck movement while he was waiting me. (That was a strange phrase LOL).
you see no gosting at all, it is as close as watching the scene in front of you, even more in a game with graphics like Witcher has.

Oh and the temps I can get on the GPUs playing witcher I could never achieve in any other games. On it is MUCH higher.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the reviews. I'm planning on grabbing one of these off Amazon, probably the XoticPC's Saber model.

Just curious about temps. Does the keyboard or palm area get really hot under load? My only concern is the heat. I play games like Witcher 3, SW: Battlefront, World of Warcraft, etc... So I don't want to scorch my hands while playing for a couple hours at a time. How are the surface temps around load? Thanks.

    OK, cool.

One more question. Does this support Sata3.0 2.5" notebook drives? I have a Samsung 850 Evo in my desktop PC using a drive bay conversion kit that I might swap in place of a HDD that the Sager model I'm looking at comes with. But I don't know if it supports standard SATA 3.0 notebook drives or just the newer M.2 or PCIe formats. Or maybe all 3? Thanks.

Oh- also, is the CPU soldered in or socketed? Thanks.

The 2x2.5 drives are both Sata 3 , the m.2 drives are sata 3 backwards compatible also as I don't use PCIe and have all 4 drives filled running at 6gb/s

The CPU is the standard 1151 socket.

It has 2 standard 2.5" bays so you can use that 850 EVO you had in your desktop. It also has 2 m.2 slots for adding m.2 or m.2/NVMe drives.

Oh, I feel compelled to do some additional tweaking this evening!

Unfortunately I am not able to oc my hellforge Sandy-E the slightest bit ("warped" heatsink) and TS seems not be that compatible to Sandy-E. Regardless of what I am setting, it won't go over 3,6 Ghz. AND my Kingston 2133Mhz RAM is crippled down to 1600Mhz. Dunno how to get a stable oc on that one?

But I should still have some headroom left on my cardz!

    OK, one more thing.

Is there a universal driver/mobo BIOS site/manufacturer for update and the like?

I'm looking at getting one of these Sagers from a reseller, XOTICPC, via Amazon, but not sure if they provide all the software support or some other site does?

Prostar sells these too, but I don't know much about them. I want to make sure I have a good go-to site for official updates and BIOS stuff.

I know there is currently a universal Skylake bug with Prime# processing that can be fixed via BIOS update. I just don't know where I would go to get an official update for this Sager model I'm looking at. The vendor? Or some official Sager/Clevo site? I don't know. Maybe just come right here? lol

I figure if I'm going to drop $2k+ on one of these, I better make sure I have good support for it! Thanks.

I got mine from Eurocom just past week and its singing.

I would buy it from Eurocom or Mythologic, or as @Phoenix sugested, from Hidevolution, because they sell the Eurocom one. I woukd get one of those for the wonderfull Prema mods.

Mine were ready to ship in only 3 days from Eurocom but they charge you more to warrant the Prema Bios, also they're more expensive but they did a WONDERFULL price match with Mythologic when I requested. Mythologic takes like 20 business days, but they test everything and do some very welcome burn in. And Hidevolution offers a great warranty and service.

I would consider no one else besides one those.

I traveled from Brazil to Miami just to buy it from Eurocom, fetch my computer which I ordered to be shipped there and came back on the following day (it was still cheaper than ordering it shipped here)

If you are going to purchase one from a non prema partner I can vouch for pro-star they have always treated me exceptional. If you are ordering from a prema partner it's eurocom or Mythlogic. Eurocom will get you product much quicker but both stores have proven themselves.

Thanks guys. I just ordered from Prostar. :)

    Now, I wait :(

About a week they said, possibly sooner. I chose expedited shipping, but I'm at the mercy of whoever they ship with. Once I get a tracking #, I'll know for sure.

This is literally the 3rd most expensive thing I ever bought, next to my house and my car, so I have some butterflies in my stomach. But there's meds for that.

    Thanks again!

Actually you're legally not required to do so here. But on the customs they radomly choose some people to inspect their luggage and tax whatever pass from 500 USD.

It may be worth checking this. From what one of our customers told us who is a lawyer in Brazil, you need to declare a laptop which is valued at greater than USD500 and if you are a Brazilian resident and bringing it into the country by air. You do have to declare, if you don't and customs do a spot check, not only do you have to pay the full tax legally due on the import but customs will also fine you up to 50% of the value of the goods.

You don't need to declare, but if you do, you pay only 50% of the value (summed) of things that go over 500 USD. If you do not declare and they choose to tax you, you pay the full tax amount.

They have people lined in two lines, one for people that will declare (which generally is empty) and one for people that have "nothing to declare". Then on the "nothing to declare" line the choose some people (sometimes they regard the amount and size of luggage, their expressions, whatever) and open their luggage to check what they have there. regardless what they say they had prior to the trip, they choose whatever for them to summ teh value above 500 USD pay import taxes (unless their carrying the brazilian receipt of it, which noone ever have).

Oh! and it is Import taxes. Like the ones you don't have in most 1st world countries. it isn't the 8% most states charges in US, it is a tax meant to prevent you from not "encouraging the national industries" and it is from 50 to 100%. So, to most people including me, it is kind a pretty much VERY revolting.

It depends on the airport too. On Sao Paulo they are lighter regarding this taxation and use to let more people pass without taxation. On my city (Belo Horizonte) they are pretty tough on the "nothing to declare" line.

Imagine, that a Clevo p870 here in Brazil, with the current dollar prices, cost the SAME as a 0km fully equiped entry level car. And it costs that because the market is incentivized to do this with the support of that tax.

    It is ridiculous.
