Has Prema said that he intends to release his Prema bios to the public someday???
Thanks

It seems he will, but it may take a while untill he can do so because he is under some exclusivity contract with the partner shops. -
@Terrablade i7-6700K stock performance is completely wrong. Should be around 9.60- 9.74 with stock settings as images below.
-
The faster the better. For Europeans the only option to buy the P870DM with Prema bios in Europe itself is Clevocenter in Portugal. That's the only Prema partner shop afaik. But I will never buy from them. I sent multiple emails over the past month with zero reply. I mean, even their webshop is in Portuguese without English translation option. I've reported this to Prema but he hasn't responded yet. I'm sure he's busy enough as it is. But I will not buy one unless it has the Prema bios, and buying from the US even with some sort of global warranty seems a little farfetched to me.
I wish Prema would find another partner shop inside the EU. There must be other (much better) candidates who are willing to partner up you'd think. Clevocenter is a dead end and it's very frustrating. I'm sure I'm not the only European member in this position.Mythology72, Sebastiao Liparizi Neto, MickyD1234 and 1 other person like this. -
There is other Prema partner in Europe, Dreammachines in Poland. But you will have to pay extra $ for vBIOS (~~~200pln) and BIOS (~~500pln), 700pln is about 160-165 euro.

Oh I didn't know that. That partner isn't mentioned on the Prema website.
Although at first glance their website is also exclusively in Polish. There is a translation option but there's nothing there. And there's no configurator so getting the right order/quote might take some emails back and forth. So I'm not convinced right now. A website says a lot about a company.
Have you dealt with them before?temp1147462323 likes this. -
I have talked with them few days ago (about P775DM), before I've ordered P870DM from Hyperbook. I know few guys who got Clevo from them (last 3 months, including P775DM on special order with 970M).
The company exist, has huge "share capital" (idk, how it is called properly). And as far as I know, their CEO is ex-Sales and Marketing Director or MSI Poland.
They also have agreement with Komputronik (one of biggest companies in Poland), and they sell... Clevo's in normal shops/shopping centers [lol] (branded by&as Dreammachines).
I think you can trust them. Yes, their website is damn awful. Try to contact them via email, the should reply in 48h.
I hope that my friend won't kill me.

They should have P870DM-G in stick (980M SLI) and Prema BIOS&vBIOS.
And Prema didn't added them to his website yet because he is still in travels. He will probably update it after. -

I live in Brazil. I went to Miami only to fetch my system I bought from Eurocom. And there is a vendor in Brazil called Avell which sells their own p870dm with Prema.
@Phoenix lives in Dubai and bought his from HIDevolution. They sell the Eurocom one with Prema upon request. He likes a lot their international warranty.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Why did you order from Hyperbook then? I presume they don't offer the Prema bios...
-
I know, I've been following this topic for a long time now. But I still prefer to buy from a more local vendor, it's way more practical.Sebastiao Liparizi Neto likes this.

Hyperbook pricing was very good and they had P870DM with QFHD display & 980M in stock.
Dreammachines had no P775DM with QFHD display & 980M in stock, waiting time 4-5 weeks (and 100% prepayment). And with prema BIOS & vBIOS it would be much more expensive. Also, they had no P870DM with single 980M in offer. And first of all, I have no time to wait for it.
Since 980M vBIOS from Prema isn't problem, I don't need BIOS at the moment (i can wait).Last edited: Mar 6, 2016 -
So i got the sillin valley CPU. Got the old one out and put new in. Closed laptop turned it on and no display keyboard turns on but no display.. Took the new CPU out put original back on and same thing, no display after like 10 seconds fans turn on and after like 1 minute laptop shuts down by itself... Any ideas guys..

Back on my crappy m17x... Slow as as slug. So noone has an answer for me?

I will pull the cmos batt and see if it makes any difference since it seems to be reacting to the HW difference.
Pull the batt and drain the power then plug everything back in and attempt to power up. -
If you aren't posting after plugging in the new CPU, and because your old CPU won't work, you might have fried them - and the motherboard.
You should only be able to put the CPU in 1 way, but maybe something got into the socket.
Use a magnifying glass and a bright light to see if there is anything shorting out in the socket across the CPU/socket contacts.

That happens if someone tries to touch any component while wearing socks since socks hold static electricity OR not being properly grounded. -
Yeah, I didn't want to say that first, I was hoping something dropped in his socket - if it was that he can solve it.
If it's a static discharge - the CPU's are fried - but they are pretty tough these days - but I still don't touch the contacts - even with anti-static protection
-

Yeah seems like a fried motherboard to me because these CPUs are pretty staightfoward to replace. If the new CPU was bad, then the original one should've worked, which leads me to suspecting a fried motherboard.
Heck I even delid my CPU and it worked although I was properly grounded and had my feet firmly on the ground barefooted at all times while performing the operation. -
Anti static protection was used. nothing got in the socket. Took the cpu out carefully set it in the way it should go in and screwed it back on... and nothing. went back to old cpu and same crap. I already sent a ticket to see if i need to send them the laptop so they can check it out :/

If its a fried motherboard would the keyboard and fans turn on?

Try to remove all your RAM sticks, and try to tur it on with just one. Try them all, -one at a time-
If it don't work, do the same again, one at a time, but in a different slot.hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
You could try a power reset, whatever that entails on the P870.
Install the old CPU, and try a power / nvram reset.Last edited: Mar 6, 2016Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

By the way, you didn't tried to change the CPU In an overclocked BIOS did you?
You returned the BIOS to stock prior the change, right?
And how long did you waited after the computer was turned off form the last time when you removed the CPU?
Tho handle these high output CPUs they have high performance capacitors that can hold a charge for a while...
Everytime prior to change anything on the morherboard you need to discharge it first. That means, unplug all power and battery, and turn it on a few times to unload all capacitors.Papusan, temp1147462323, god1729 and 2 others like this. -

why is it a bad idea to change a CPU in an overclocked BIOS?hmscott likes this. -
Well if changing the CPU with an overclock BIOS might mess things up then thats what happened.. I did not reset it to default, "brainfart" but why wouldnt it work when i put the original cpu back..hmscott likes this.
-
Ahhh, so the settings in the BIOS might not be compatible with the new CPU, and it won't post. Not sure why the old CPU won't either.
You could try that Power Reset / NVRAM reset to defaults before boxing it up and sending it off... try the New CPU first - save yourself some time. -
Pardon my ignorance. how to do a power/nvram reset? thats the last step ill take before boxing it.

I don't have a P870DM yet, but here is the manual PDF download link:
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download/USRManualOut.asp?model=P870dM
Searching for "reset" or "nvram" or "cmos" found this:
"...you may have to discharge the battery of the CMOS.
Contact your service representative for help"
I do recall reading that the battery holder is easy to break, so be extra careful.
Also, it occurs to me you should have disconnected the main battery before swapping the CPU... after reading sections while searching for "battery".Last edited: Mar 6, 2016Terrablade likes this. -

The new CPU may not work with the same parameters (instability). Then if any instability happens when the bios is trying recognize cpu it might corrupt it.

I had a corrupted BIOS in a MSI Gt72s. I was trying to overclock thw 6820hk through XTU, and after some failed atempts I could not load the BIOS. I didn't knew at the time about XTU...
Well, to restore the BIOS, I had to find a specific set of key while turning the computer on, so it would boot the BIOS installed on a USB, and from there I could re-flash the original BIOS back. -
Sebastiao Liparizi Neto Notebook Consultant
BTW kudos to the MSI Gt72s:
After that incident I found that the BIOS of the gt72 stock is unlocked and allows some fair degree of parameters to overclock (not comparable to Prema, which is insane on the amount of parameters, but close to a mid range desktop overclockable mobo).
I could pretty easily bring the 6820hk to work at 4.1ghz with no effort at all, and given its a BGA, at pretty low temperatures as well. -
Does anyone have any experience with (or opinions about) G.Skill's Ripjaws memory? Eventually, I'd like to end up with 64GB, so I was looking at their 16GB sticks (Model #: FF4-2400C16S-16GRS). Or is there another brand that I should consider?

I'm just about to order a P870DM and have a question about Silicon Lottery. If I purchase a CPU from Silicon Lottery, the reseller will install and test it ... but, no surprise, they won't warranty it. Is this a reasonable thing to do?
Also, for those of you who've purchased a CPU from Silicon Lottery with the Delid option, from what you can tell, did they do a good job? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
No warranty, can't tell you how good is the job yet but I shall receive my CPU within a week hopefully. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Warranty for the CPU would have to be from the provider, the reseller wont take the responsibility for your overclocking
-
Whaaat!?!! You mean the reseller won't pay for my mistakes? That's crazy!

off course not, I doubt even the manufacturer would pay for it, this is user error not a component that failed by itself. -

Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I have a 4.5-5 year old Samsung which is on its last legs and can no longer play any of the current games even at lowest of low settings and it's about time that I upgrade to a new one. I have read most of the 479 pages so far (but I have skipped a few of them). Based on all that I have read I am planning to order the P870DM soon from HIDEvolution or LPC-Digital with the below config and would like some advice.
Highlights:
- Unlocked and Overclockable 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700K Quad Core Processor, 4.0 GHz (Max Turbo Frequency 4.2GHz), 8MB Smart Cache
- IC Diamond on CPU + GPU
- No Operating System Installed - I am planning to install Windows 10 Pro myself.
- 17.3" 1920x1080 IPS FHD (16:9) LED Antiglare Matte Type Display w/ NVIDIA G-Sync Technology
- 30 Days Zero Defective Pixel Warranty (perfect panel guarantee)
- Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5 in SLI (16GB total) - NVIDIA G-Sync Enabled
- 8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2133MHz (1 x 8GB)
- no RAID
- No m.2 SSD - I have a Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SSD that I got for cheap during the Cyber Monday sale and will install the OS on this drive. It will be an applications only drive, games will be installed on the HDD.
- 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive
- 330W AC Power Adapter (supports 100-240V)
Wireless card:
I am a strictly single-player kinda guy and not in the least bit interested in online gameplay. I have read reviews which said that the Killer wireless cards have (had?) problems with connection drops. Now I am not sure if this is still the case and recent drivers have fixed whatever issues there were. Should I upgrade to the Intel wireless card or can I just stick with the Killer card?
Processor/BIOS:
I understand that the stock 6700k processor is crap and it is recommended by most of the OC gurus here that it be undervolted to avoid thermal throttling.
My question: Is the Prema BIOS absolutely necessary for this or can it be done in XTU/ThrottleStop? If the answer to this is yes, I will end up buying it from HIDEvolution otherwise I'll stick to LPC.
I know that Prema BIOS gives more options for overclockers but can't the same thing be accomplished in other tools and in a more noob-friendly way? Why the preference for Prema over Windows utilities? I am not dissing either one, I'm genuinely curious.
I saw @Phoenix 's settings to achieve 4.2 GHz and 4.4 GHz overclocks ( here and here). Are these necessary for everyday gaming? And, is the additional 330W power adapter required to achieve these?
Like I said at the beginning I read most of the 479 pages in the thread but not all of them. So if these questions have been answered earlier and I've overlooked them I'd really appreciate it if somebody could point me in the right direction.
Thank you!Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

1) Avoid the Killer WLAN card like the plague unless you are fine with a card that keeps disconnecting randomly and have to keep hunting for drivers. The Intel Card AC8260 is as stable as a rock.
Here is my speedtest.net benchmark on the Intel AC8260, look at the low ping:
2) If you don't want a high overclock, then a single power adapter is enough, but for a Dual 980M SLI config, 4.2-4.4 GHz is probably the max you can go. I would get 2 power adapters if I was in your shoes.
3) When ordering from HIDevolution, you can go for the vanilla Clevo P870DM-G with the stock BIOS, or you can order a Eurocom Sky X9 from them which has the Prema BIOS out of the box. that's what I did, best of both worlds, HIDevolution international warranty with free shipping in case anything goes wrong + the Eurocom Sky X9 with Prema BIOS + covered under warranty
4) Email HIDevolution and inform them you are an NBR member they might give you a small discount
5) You can easily do the undervolting through XTU so the Prema BIOS is not a must but it is recommended if you wanna tweak more and fuflly unlock the potential of this beast
Note: Ordering a Eurocom Sky X9 as opposed to vanilla Clevo P870DM-G will add a few more days to your build but anyway, HIDevolution are usually one of the fastest to ship systems and their shipping is very speedy / cheap as they have good rates with shipping companies. I got my system within 24 hours after it was built and I live in DubaiLast edited: Mar 7, 2016Sebastiao Liparizi Neto and HakunaMatata like this. -
@HakunaMatata : Killer wireless card works great. Current drivers have no issues whatsoever even under load. I reached 42MB/s downloads on wireless already if anything. On the other hand, the Intel AC8260 has been spiking even after disabling a buttload of its features and its roaming aggressiveness, the spike will always continue and drop connection for 1-2 seconds in an interval.
hmscott and HakunaMatata like this. -
Thank you for the suggestion but, on average, I have heard that the Intel card is much more stable so I will be going for that. Your feedback is definitely appreciated though.
Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Thank you, I will do that!
I think I'll do that. Even if I don't overclock much right away, knowing myself and having been given the option for so much tweaking, that is definitely something I will try in the future.
I'd rather have it and not use it than regret not getting it later. Plus, it'll serve as a backup so I'm covered either way.
When I spoke to HIDEvolution they said they can include the Prema BIOS for an additional fee ($200, which seems reasonable) but they did not mention anything about Eurocom and I didn't think to ask them either... So I don't know if they will order the Sky X9 and ship it to me or install the BIOS themselves... I will call and find out.
Yeah, I saw the XTU profiles you've uploaded for overclocking to 4.2 and 4.4 (I have them and your BIOS settings posts bookmarked
).

I agree with you having 2 adapters is also a plus, for example I take my laptop to the cafe every night so now I ordered a 3rd adapter from HIDevolution, 2 for home and 1 to keep in my laptop bag rather than having to disconnect it / reconnect all the time and as you said it serves as a backup.
As long as HIDevolution can have the Prema BIOS then it doesn't matter if it comes from Eurocom or not.
Any questions you have let us know and don't forget to download the latest drivers from my Clevo P870DM Drivers mirror thread located in the main Clevo forumHakunaMatata likes this. -
