Sager NP9870(-S) or Eurocom Sky X9(E for Extreme overclocking) Xotic offers the former, HIDevolution offers both(both are the same exept X9E offers better CPU thermal paste(Liquid Ultra) unlocked BIOS from Prema and overclocking included warranty).
Please refer Xotic, Eurocom, and HIDevolution websites before asking more questions.

Hey Pat, so I should be receiving mine from you guys tomorrow. My question is off topic sorry but do you know if the code for the division will come in the box or should I email xotic to request it?

usually, they send you the code only after you receive your machine and ensured it's working fine.

You don't need to overclock for everyday gaming at the moment. I just put in the -100mV to stop thermal throttling at high loads. I would expect this laptop to run max settings on games for 2 years at Stock based on previous clevos.
I am not sure if 8GB RAM is enough? It may be. Its been a long time since I have had a 8GB ram PC so I do not know if it will suffice. Putting it up to 16GB should not change the price much. If money is tight you can always upgrade RAM later. I think I ended up going for 32GB as it was only £30 more than the 16GB.

A single stick wont be dual channel (you need two to interleave them together), I would go for 16GB now if you can but you can always upgrade it later if you like.

The upgrade from a single 8GB dual channel DDR4 2133MHz stick to a 16GB stick is $50... What with all the other upgrades that I am planning to get this laptop has exceeded my budget so I am trying to cut down wherever possible... I figure I'll wait for a while and upgrade the RAM during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.

just get a single RAM of the highest capacity you can afford, that way, when you have more money, you simply put another one and baam, you are running in Dual Channel mode. RAM upgrades are the easiest to do

"Silicon Lottery Intel Skylake i7-6700K guaranteed to overclock to 4.8GHz + CPU Delid Service"

So you ordered the CPU from Silicon Lottery, had them deliver it to HID and HID installed this for you in place of the stock CPU?

No bro, I ordered it from HIDevolultion directly, they then contacted Silicon Lottery and got it for me and it was already delidded, so they will ship it to me with the rest of the other components which I will install myself.

    Hello,
I will put in my thoughts considering your config, hope it helps.... some...
    1. If you have 980M x 2 and 6700k and you plan to overclock I would consider a second power adapter. Even if you don't overclock I find 1 power adapter running always pretty close to the max resulting in a hot power adapter with little power to spare. (2x100w + 91w + motherboard + display + drives + usb external drive/mouse = between 315-340w when gaming (hardware working hard to deliver)
    2. In my opinion an laptop HDD is way too slow for running games (even if it's an 7200 one) and I would advise you to get an SSD for games, even if it's a low budget, slow one, it will be light years faster then the fastest laptop 7200rpm drive. Some games load so much content while you play that running of an SSD make a huge difference in load times, lag, shuttering.Of course, you can always buy later an m.2 sata 500gb SSD and keep the HDD for storing pictures, music, videos....
    3. I currently have a Killer 1525 in my Clevo P751DM-G and Intel AC8260 in my P870DM-G. I also run an old DLink Router at home, 6 years old or so. I had no problem what so ever with the killer at home and in 2-3 other places that I've been in with my laptop. I can't really speak for the "other" places in therms of lag, spikes but at home it works great. In spite of what I have read on various forums about the killer issues I had none. Now talking about Intel 8260, for me it was and still is an dissapointment. It was the first wi-fi card that had major issues with my router and my router have seen a lot of wi-fi devices in all those years. With old drivers it did not even detect my 2.4ghz connection... it only worked on 5ghz one. With the latest driver works somewhat ok with the 2.4ghz but it disconnects and has some crazy random moments when it disconnects and when it does reconnect you can't reach the net for minutes at a time. If I use the 5ghz side it works ok. My issues with 8260 were encountered by others as well, others that had routers made by different manufacturers.
Bottom line : in my opinion it's all about compatibility between the router (and it's firmware) and wi-fi card hardware (and it's driver) and you can't really tell what is best for you because on paper everything is super duper perfect... in real word it's not.
    4. I run my 6700k at 4.1 on all cores at -129mv and the temps are great for that tiny heatsink (compared to a desktop). I did not bother to overclock it further because I did not find any real use for the gained CPU performance resulted from overclocking to 4.2 or 4.4. Also cannot speak if my CPU holds 4.3 or 4.4 because all I did try for a short period of time was 4.2 and it seems to hold it perfectly. For my single 980 (desktop) even stock 4.0Ghz seems more then enough for most of the games if not all of them. Looking at the future... well... my 980 will definitely become obsolete way faster then my 4.1ghz CPU.
    5. Prema Bios and VBios definitely makes a difference... unfortunately in my country is not possible to have it so... I hope someday I can flash it....
    6. I would advise you to get an 16gb RAM from the start (if possible)... the price of a 8Gb it's decent but of course you can always get it later and it's extremely easy to install.

    Good luck !

My Killer Doubleshot Pro chipset works perfectly fine, without the Suite installed.

I installed the LAN/WLAN drivers manually and it's been working without any disconnects.

From what I understand, they have already patched the Killer suite program. All you have to do is refresh your network connections in the settings whenever you move your laptop to a new WLAN or LAN source, since the suite bases it's bandwidth delegation based on your current connections. It doesn't automatically refresh though, so unless you keep your laptop connected to the same exact WIFI and/or Ethernet connection all the time, you just have to refresh your Killer suite connection list whenever you take your laptop out somewhere beyond your usual hangouts.

If you don't want to even deal with that, you can just manually point to the driver folder itself through the Windows Device Manager. Then, it'll just use your bandwidth like any other chipset would without any priority settings. This is what I do, since I only have a 25Down/10Up streams and it's pointless to bother with bandwidth delegation. My laptop is only ever connected to my WIFI outer anyway and I'm battling with my wife's laptop and my son's iPad and Netflix on the BD-player lol. It's all out WIFI warfare in my house.

Strange version number for the WLAN driver because the one on the CLEVO site is:

    WLAN = 12.0.0.149
    BT = 10.0.0.149

Those might be more recent drivers. I used the ones on ProStar's website, since that's where I bought my Clevo.

Mine work fine, so I haven't bothered installing new ones.

You know, I didn't really think of from that perspective.. I will pick up the SSD later when there's a sale.

    Amen!

I am not a US citizen, just working here. So I am aware of the complexities involved in getting things like such a cool laptop outside the US. While they are available it's not as easy to get your hands on them compared to when you are close to the source itself. And the price is so mindbogglingly high that I would never even have considered it!

    It did, thank you. :)

I bought my Eurocom Sky X9 with Prema by the same price Xotic and Mythologic sells their systems. I just asked a price match from them. The people from sales were very kind and helped me in various issues, they were even regarding my complications as I had to travel to US just to fetch it in Miami.

Can someone tell me the response time on the display? Is it really 25ms as per HTWingNut? :vbconfused: Bit worried I may have to buy an external monitor sooner then I thought now. How is it with the G-Sync? I'm worried about stuff getting too blurry as I move the camera around in games.

Make sure you get the original "receipt" so you can get support - limited as it is - from SL / Intel. Same for the rest of the parts HID doesn't install / warrant.

I don't think HID will include these parts in the warranty support - unless you have them install them and test/burn them in for you.

Intel has been known to swap out a bad delid CPU from time to time, they like to get field samples for evaluation. If you do have a problem with the CPU that isn't covered by SL then ask Intel nicely, they might help. :)

I was wondering what people think of Intel's Performance Tuning Protection Program. The program applies to boxed CPU's (not trayed ones); and, since those purchased via Silicon Lottery are considered boxed, it should apply to theirs. Another question is whether or not the program applies to a delidded CPU. The terms and conditions contain the following sentence: "The Plan only applies to issues directly related to performance tuning, and only provides for a one-time replacement for eligible processors." Since delidding is never explicitly mentioned, I wonder if it could be considered "performance tuning".

sup guys. i found a funny behaivour using xtu, don't know if anyone else noticed this as well or if it's just happening on mine: if i use an offset on cpu and cache of -150mv the voltage reads what it's supposed to. but if i change the voltage from default to i.e. 1.17v and change from adaptive to static it will just sit somwhere around 1.22v and no matter what i set (as long as it's lower than 1.22v) it will stay there and won't go lower. as soon as i set it back to default and use the offset setting again it will go right back down to whatever offset i use. i'm on the stock bios i must say :) cheers

Hi guys, I'm preparing drivers for my P870DM that will probably arrive on Friday.
I've ordered it with Intel 8260, and when I visit Clevo website... I see:
    Code:
    Intel 8620 combo card driver (WLAN 18.21.0.2, BT 18.1.1546.2762) for Windows 10 64-bit. Combo_I1.zip
8620? I don't know about something? :D This is certainly driver for 8260? And why the hell it's size is 482mb?

There is a driver for the wireless card, and then also a utility with it as well, I believe. Looks like the right driver, otherwise you could get it from Intel's site as well.

    Hey!

I'll be traveling to San Francisco this Saturday for the GDC and Game Connection.

Can anyone direct me to a store there where I could find CLU (or equivalent) and a Notepal U3?

I'll be staying in a hostel then buying online is not a good option... I must visit a good atual store.

    Thank you very much!

You have to externally measure it to quantify response times.

THere isn't any store here in the city here which carries those, you might want to check Central Computers on Howard once. But its very unlikely they will have it. The notepal U3 might be available, but dont take my word on it.

Hey mate, have you installed those 2800 sticks, and if so do they work OK? I've ordered some 2400 sticks but will probably return them if there's no reason not to use 2666 or 2800 instead in the Sky X9E.

No reason to use them if they are more expensive.

Thanks Meaker, the price difference is reasonably insignificant (~5%) so does not "higher speed" equal "better" in this case? Been out of the PC game for a long time so still catching up on some of this stuff.

For gaming, probably insignificant or no difference.

I'll be using this machine dual-purpose evenly split for gaming and also work productivity, primarily software packages that load a lot of data into RAM (regularly in excess of 32GB so I'll be using a 64GB kit), hence from a basic (and possibly ignorant) "faster = better" perspective it seems reasonably straightforward to just swap slower for faster where price is reasonably similar.

Having said that, firstly are the 2666 and 2800 compatible with the P870DM / Sky X9E, and secondly if so, are there any non-financial downsides to using the higher clocked sticks - e.g. thermal or anything else?

Thanks for everyone's help - I'm just fumbling my way through this a bit so any replies and assistance are much appreciated.

These are third-party supplied G.Skill RAM sticks by the way, not purchased or installed through Eurocom.
