Wish he could've given us a better look and talked more about the screen, haha.

Ask him on his channel. The temps seemed good.

i wonder which heatsink he was using in there...

Whenever I get mine in, I know exactly what kind of video to make... all the stuff that's driving me and you guys crazy to know!
Hopefully he responds to my comment though. It would be nice to see specifics on the panel up close. -
Ordered the single-1080 SKU now, too. I originally planned to buy a 775, but after seeing how much that model bursts at the seams, I decided for the 870 with its more spacious insides and superior cooling system. Had to dish out 400 quid more, but worth it.

Is there any way you know of unlocking the Asus Strix GTX 1080 OC BIOS?

Now that the 1440p screens are out... anyone know if the connector fits the DM-G?

Somehow, this guy got a P870DM3 with a 3K panel and single 1080 before everyone else. It's a Sager as well. Interesting.....perhaps my reseller wasn't lying to me.

Who is your reseller?

So, quick question to the reps for resellers ( @Ted@HIDevolution , @Meaker@Sager , etc.), can a P870DM2 later be upgraded with components for the DM3 (new bottom cover and the Grid heatsink, as well as going to 2x1180 cards when they come out (or 2x1080s))...
-
According to Donald and I even think Meaker has written about it before in this thread, the only difference between a DM2 and DM3 is the vapor chamber, second 1080 card, and SLI cable. Donald said that in the future, resellers will be offering SLI upgrade kits.
-
Question for anyone. The SD card reader. Does the card sit flush or does it stuck out a bit? If it does stick out a bit does anyone know of a half height card that would work? I want to store some documents and misc data on them.
-
Thanks! I stopped following this thread I don't know how many pages ago and heard initial reports on different thicknesses or different placement of slots. I admit, I'm guilty of the same thing I have complained about others doing (so feel free to degrade me now)! I just realized that the DM2 would cost roughly what the DM1 I was looking at if I got a 1070 for the DM1. That makes no sense because it is a dead end. So instead I'm just going to save a little more and get the DM2 with an upgrade path...

I am actually going to get the 1070 for my P870DM-G. At least it will keep it relevant for gaming for another couple years.
EDIT: My main question I'm going to ask Eurocom is if the 1070 I get will be G-Sync compatible.Last edited: Oct 16, 2016 -
There a fully unlocked strix 1.2v XOC bios you can obtain from hwbot

it won't, the VRM even on the reference design 1080 is very good. The strix is even betterTomJGX and Trafficante like this. -
I asked the YouTuber about the laptop screen, here's his response:
"The viewing angles are great and perfect . The Matted Display work well .. Out of the box the color accuracy seemed a but average, however I did take note that the 2560 x 1440 monitor is sharp and makes games look sharp. I cannot go back to 1080p now. I did play games in 1080p vs 1440p and the difference is so easy to see. Also the 120hz 5ms response make the gameplay so smooth .. when benchmarking and playing games G-Sync was enabled out the box . I did test the Gsync and I must say you will never see any tearing, or experience any lag in this monitor.
The sharpness of the monitor was what stood out to me the most.... I did not test the RGB Adobe, however I must assume that if the laptop does not advertise 90% and above color accuracy than it comes with standard accuracy around the 75-80 % range. I did test the monitor in 4K using DSR... by doing so G-Sync is disabled. however because of the 120hz refresh rate I did not immediately notice any tearing or lag . However I do recommend enabling V-Sync when using DSR.
That being said DSR works well on this laptop and performance is stunning when running DSR. The Gtx 1080 is amazing and I think it is ground breaking . .You will never play games in 1080p again. The average Fps in 2560 x 1440p is about 110 fps. The only game I tested so far thst averaged a dead on 60 FPS was Quantum Break. But I must say "Quantum Break was the best looking game I tested as of yesterday. Today i will test more games .
The games i tested so far are as follows : Doom- average 110FPS @ 1440p | Gears of War- average 80fps @ 1440p | Need for Speed- average 100 Fps @ 1440p | Shadow Warrior 2- average 90 FPS @ 1440p | NBA 2K17- 8xMSAA average 80Fps @ 2K | Batman Arkham Knight- Nvidia Works all on average 90FPS @2K...... That being said this laptop has zero compromises. I will be loading videos soon . I did not mention that this laptop shipped with 32gb of DDR4 ram @ 2400 mhz. I do a lot of Video editing and photo editing so the ram can be of use. Especially in MyA and Blender. This laptops rendering time destroys the Gtx 980m's rendering time (I rendered this video with cuda allowing use of the GTX 1080. In terms of performance, The GTX 1080 literally runs circles around the 980m. The average temps of the GPU (GTX 1080) without the fan set to Max speed is about 80-86c however with the fan to Max the average temps are 68-76c..
The fan is quite loud at max. However the Max fan performance is excellent and lowers temps by 10-13 degrees Celsius. That is awesome . I do recommend headphones when gaming with the fan on max .. You could turn the speakers up to Loud and override the sound levels .However. I recommend headphones. More coming soon stay tuned !! **note* All games where maxed out to the fullest with nothing being left out. This includes AA - and all other settings."iunlock, PrimeTimeAction, DreDre and 8 others like this. -
The main XOC BIOS for LN2 overclocking is overkill. Try to get the T4 Unlocked with the Power and Temp limits removed.
This is the max amount of power i have seen it draw ...yet.
Was testing out most of the BIOS's for the Strix 1080 last night, and this is the one that i settled on :
http://overclocking.guide/download/asus-geforce-gtx-1080-strix-bios-improved-performance/
Im guessing my card doesn't want to play nice with the fully unlocked one (at default), and needs a lot of fine tuning. Also the other Strix OC (1936Mhz) BIOS's with the power and temp limits removed, crash Overwatch for me with even the slightest over clocks. The T4 i linked to above works without issues.
But this is for my card, im sure other cards behave differently and might be even better. -
Thanks for taking the time to do that. If I could give you more than a like and an Internet salute I would!Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

For those of us waiting for QHD screen, I can see us celebrating like this when it arrives.

thank mr skeltal

Yes indeed we will be celebrating like that. In the meantime, I have a couple drives coming arriving this week. So I am really hoping to see my DM3 by the end of this week or early next week, lest my reseller will be hearing my mouth.
-
Yeah I just had two 2TB 850 pros arrive earlier last week and borrowed a 950 pro from another machine until I can order two 2tb 960s.

And here I've been rubbing my hands together, ready to put some lowly 2x Sandisk 1tb Sata SSDs in.. lolPapusan, temp00876, clayton006 and 2 others like this.

Well I may be waiting a bit on the 960s because that would be another $2600 street for the 2tb ones. I may just slum it with the 950 and 2x 2TB drives for now. Fingers cross that this thing ships tomorrow!

Good stuff!
The more I see these CPU temps though, the more tempted I am to try and delid the 6700k. I've seen some really good results from it. Only downside is that it looks a little intimidating, haha. Fairly simple yet so delicate.
Anybody here try the process with good results? -
best to stick with delidding tools, such as the rockit 88: http://rockitcool.myshopify.com/
or the delid die mate: https://www.caseking.de/der8auer-delid-die-mate-fsd8-015.html
no risk involved there, very easy to use and not even all that expensive (at least with the Rockit 88
)
ive previously used the razor method myself, with less than stellar results, before switching to the vise method. that worked better, but it was still a hassle and a bit risky... -
But you can't get Higher processor benchmark scores from better/more costly ssd's
Even optane storage can't help you with that

Totally agree. The first time I delidded using razor, it took me 15mins and afterwards my hands were trembling (I was extra cautious). When I saw the video, I was like "Oooh, so that's how it's done".
-
Yeah storage is the least thrilling upgrade for me too. I bought those 2 Sandisks second hand from a member here for a really good price. SSDs loose value way too quickly for me to make them an upgrade priority. I'm a little excited to be decking out a machine without a single spinner in it for the first time ... but apart from that..mehDreDre likes this.

Haha, looks like you and I both believe in the "no mechanical drives" policy. I'm going for a similar setup, but can't wait for the 960 pro so getting a 1tb sm961 for now and a 2tb 850 pro.DreDre and clayton006 like this.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar:
After a video driver crash my screen flickers for a while. Even after restarting; it always goes away after 10-15 min though..

Living, at least once, by the blade is what proves yourself in the flames! Getting the tools (which I may pick up) before mastering the blade is like foregoing a sword in favor of a gun. A gun may not always be there for you, but a tried and true blade can always be by your side! Lol!

On my 775 i have had that when my screen was clocked too high. The 4k held a 63hz but sometimes crashed so i went to 62hz then no more crasing or fickering after the crash. I dont know if that applies to your situation
-
I don't think that's my issue. I'm running 60Hz.

had this with my P870DM-G and at first, I thought my new laptop's screen is bad. Turned out whenever I ran the older Need For Speed Most Wanted this happened due to it running @ 60hz. So I forced it to run at 75hz + using a command line in the shortcut and the issue stopped.
Do you notice this flickering happening after any certain event?
See my thread here:
Screen flickering issue with P870DM-G -
It only happens sometimes after a graphics driver crash. Today I've been playing BF1 and it was crashing every game until I turned shadow play off. And for a few of those crashes, the flickering thing happened.
