do you by any chance have the 3D Vision Driver installed? I always ensure to do a custom install and de-select that because when I did have it installed, everytime I launched any video, there would be like a 5 sec lag before the movie started playing as if I was buffering from the internet, the moment I uninstalled the 3D Vision driver, that didn't happen again. I know your issue is different but worth a try

The vice method should be avoided specially for skylake. In older models the PCB used to be quite thicker so you could use vice method. But in skylake, they have reduced the thickness of PCB so the risk of damaging the processor is much more.
Stick to delidding tool or razor blade.
EDIT: found a photo comparing PCBs of skylake vs older CPU (i think this one is haswell).

The rockit 88 looks like a great idea! I was a bit worried about the razor method because of gripping the CPU and potentially damaging it. Thanks for that.
This laptop is taking me on quite the journey of discovery not only with new information but a virtue in patience.

Looks like I didn't do proper research; the model with the t-shaped heatpipe isn't available in my region yet, and the one I ordered was a single-GPU config of the SLI SKU. Which is actually fine with me, because it means I'll be able to upgrade it with a second 1080 further down the line, if I ever feel like going SLI.

There are 2 different SKUs:
P870DM2 that supports single GTX 1080 and comes with single GPU heatsink and 2x 230W AC Adapters
P870DM3 that supports dual / SLI GTX 1080 and it is available with dual VGA heatsink. -
Yeah, and apparently the one I got is a dm3. Well, we'll see once it arrives. Most resellers here in Germany are somewhat notorious.

If you receive with single GPU heatsink, just make sure to order dual VGA heatsink when ordering 2nd 1080 GPU upgrade kit. -
Hello, this is my first post in this forum as I just received my first Clevo based laptop (P870DM2-G based Eurocom Sky X9E2, i7 6700K, GTX 1080) few days ago. As this is my first experience with Clevo laptops, I am not very familiar with some aspects and might need help from you, fellow owners of this beast.
The first and biggest issue is fan control. I assume that these controls are locked within BIOS as I'm unable to define a fan curve in both MSI Afterburner and SpeedFan. Settings in Clevo Control Center are completely useless, because of horrible temperatures on Automatic (over 90°C on GPU), unnecessarily (way too) loud fans on Overclock while both CPU and GPU are not even reaching 70°C and lastly Manual that will only set 1 value of fan speed that is either on or completely off. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I assume that Prema mod should allow me to define custom fan curve; as from what I've read on forum, this BIOS mod should unlock whole potential of the system. I noticed that factory installed version of BIOS is not a Prema mod and I find it somewhat limited in many scenarios. As far as I know, Eurocom is Prema partner, so do you know whether (or how) is it possible to get Prema mod for this machine's BIOS and vBIOS?
Another issue is that every time I start up the laptop, LED colors are set to default (blue keyboard and green back panel) until I log in into windows and Clevo Control Center loads my selected color profile, which is quite annoying. However, even worse is that every time I restart Windows, some settings in CCC are reset to default - not only sleep/hibernate settings, but also fan profile, so I have to open CCC and change these settings manually every time.
The last issue is probably related to nVidia drivers. I tried to use several different drivers and all of them set the default refresh rate of monitor (1080p 60Hz IPS) to 75Hz with no option to change it to 60. I created a custom resolution within nVidia Control Panel featuring 60Hz, but many games use default 75Hz instead and it really bugs me. I couldn't find any solution even after searching for several hours.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me with these problems. Apart from this, it is a beautiful machine and I fell in love with it immediately upon unboxing it. It's completely different from any other gaming laptops available on the market.CaerCadarn likes this. -
My 6700K has been delidded with the R88 tool and I have a thread with the temps.
[CPU and GPU Temperatures] - Clevo P775DM2/3(-G)/P75xDM2(-G) (Sager NP9152/NP9172)
[Liquid Metal & Traditional Paste] - Clevo P775DM2/3(-G)/P75xDM2(-G) (Sager NP9152/NP9172)
Once you use the R88, it'll be the go to choice forever lol. Razer and Vice are a thing of the past. Logically there is just no need for the older methods anymore, unless of course one does not have the R88 tool. 1, 2, 3, pop...done...it literally takes seconds.

you need to delid and check heatsink pressure on gpu core -
When I use the Grizzly Conductonaut (or better compound?) after delidding, is it safe to use on top of the CPU and GPU on this laptop model, or would a traditional paste be necessary because of the parts used and such?
-
Liquid Metal for sure between the die -> IHS.
As for the IHS -> Heat Sink, me along with others will say, "There's no other than Liquid Metal...Go Big or Go Home..." However, if you are using traditional paste go with either Grizzly Kyronaut and/or Gelid Extreme. Those are the only two I would ever touch. Forget ICD.
Note: Liquid Metal wise, CLLU would likely be more friendly if you decide to go with liquid metal as Grizzly Conductonaut is a bit thinner. Both are excellent...1:1 in my eyes and I'd use either one on any given day.
Also if you are going with Liquid Metal, make sure to use electrical tape to tape around the GPU die and around the CPU as well....it might seem overboard, but better to be safe than sorry. Well worth it.Last edited: Oct 18, 2016 -
CLU is quite safe on the CPU if you take precautions such as taping around the IHS to minimize the risk of leaking onto the MB. If your computer doesn't move around much, even that may be unnecessary. The GPU is a lot riskier, but it can be done safely with some tricks such as making sure the black shroud around the die is leak-proof or replacing it with electrical tape and also by making a ring of traditional paste around the die to prevent leaks. Before doing the GPUs, you have to make sure that the heatsink is properly flush with the die(s) because the paste is so thin. If not, you'll have to correct it one way or another. My DM3 required washers and a shim for one GPU.

Does anyone know if the SD card reader supports the UHS-II speeds?
-
Thanks for the info!
What's your opinion on Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste as a general IHS -> Heat Sink? I acquired it from a friend who just built a computer, and I was wondering if you thought less of it than the two you recommended.
It does seem to be the case. Reported avg. 200 MB/s read and 158 MB/s write on a Toshiba Exceria Pro SDXC 64 GB UHS-II card. Check this page out more thorough speed chart.

In all honestly I am very biased toward any other paste as I've actually spent a lot of money to test out a bunch of the worthy ones throughout the years.
One common denominator that I've found with pastes like Noctua etc...is that they all seem to be okay at first, but give it a beating with benches and CPU intensive tasks and it'll evaporate (exaggerating of course) like thin toothpaste and you'll have to repaste again and again...and again....and again...
Due to the prices of pastes being within a few bucks of each other it's just one of them things where...."Go big or go home," actually holds to be true and logical in every which way you look at it...
It wouldn't hurt to try it out and heck if it was free...paste away!
If able, I would highly recommend going the liquid metal route with taping up around the GPU and CPU.
Tip: Use this electrical tape. 3M's Super 33+. It's more flexible, thinner and has the same temp rating of 105C than the thicker electrical tapes. This tape has excellent adhesive and can withstand high temps without losing it's integrity.

JUNK!!

Liquid metal could be a little tricky to pull off, I would stick to a viscous thermal paste like IC diamond. Grizzly is also doing well for me so far.

Kyronaut is probably easiest to apply right out of the tube, due to coming with a spatula-shaped nozzle. That is, if you want to spread it manually to begin with.

Hello Eurocom Support,
I have a P870DM-3 ordered at Eurocom.
When will the 120 Hz displays QHD finally be there?
And how long does it take to make a Qwertz keyboard?
If I later would like to install an additional GPU - but I need not only the Dual-Heatsink but also a 2nd power adapter.
And is the kit included in the SLI bridge?
Is the power adapter to be paid for or added to the kit?
I have the Prema bios with my order.
Do I have to inform the GPU-Prema bios again or will it be delivered?
greetings -
In a link about the new QHD displays, I read the following:
Exhibition highlights include the world's first 120Hz ultra high refresh rate QHD gaming notebook PC display panel in the exhibition area; High resolution, ultra-narrow border LTPS smartphone display technologies and UHD 4K ultra high resolution LTPS notebook PC panel; Ultra high resolution free-form curved car displays, and high resolution AMOLED display for automotive; And a series of AMOLED displays for smartwatch.
The world 's first 17.3 - inch 120Hz ultra high refresh rate QHD (2560 x 1440) gaming notebook PC panel from AUO is with mere 5ms super fast response time and 1.8 times higher pixel density than full HD, making it the panel with the highest resolution among 120Hz models.
The panel is capable of demonstrating extremely smooth and impressive picture quality, setting a new standard for gaming notebook PC panel specifications.
I'm looking forward to the 120 hz 5ms qhd display.
My P375sm-A had a 100Hz display installed by XNotebooks.
That was really cool and fast.
Especially the SGM 2.2 or similar.knibbler likes this. -

Please get all details from our Sales Team. There is no SLI cable provided if you order with single GPU. You can order 2nd GTX 1080 + SLI cable + GPU heatsink (if required) at later time as part of GPU Upgrade Kit. There is no 2nd 330W AC Adapter coming with single GPU, so if you need one you need to order. -
I'm using exactly the same version. I tried to use drivers from your website as well as directly from Clevo, but they behave the same. I also submitted a ticket no. 41726 on your website; would you please take a look at it and tell me whether it is possible?
-
Tell me about it. Mine is supposed to ship today but I have to keep finding more wood to knock on every time I say that and peak to check the status.

Which reseller did you order from?

XoticPC

My beast has officially shipped! Unfortunately, based off the tracking information, I won't receive it until next week. So Donald was right. I'll keep you guys updated and will post a review soon.
Edit: I am now looking at the Tornado F5 (or Fangbook VR 200) for my business machine. Originally, I was looking at the P750DM2 but the price for the Tornado F5 isn't bad. -
What reseller did you pick? Did you opt for rush shipping? When did you originally place your order?
Sorry for all the questions. Congrats on the new system! -
I have posted some preliminary temperature results for a delidded 6700k in my P870DM2 if anyone is interested, the result are in a different thread, here is the link:

In summary with a bit of work, the fan noise isn't really an issue if you delid and use the right thermal paste, My fans never ramp past half way unless I press FN 1, even while gaming for multiple hours.Cheska likes this. -
My laptop just shipped! Right on time. Hope to see it in a few days. Can't wait! (if you can't tell, I'm excited)

Extremely jealous!!! I hope mine ships soon before I leave for work again.

Like Cheska, my reseller is XoticPC. No rush shipping but my order was placed on Sept 23. I was one of the first in line for the 3K panel DM3 with 1080 SLI. I originally was waiting for the FHD 120hz G-Sync and my patience paid off with the 3K panel.
Thanks, you'll get yours soon bro. -

obviously the first pre-orders would take priority.

Since introducing the 3K 120hz, 5ms G-Sync panel, is Clevo going to offer a FHD panel with G-Sync for the DM2/3? I am thinking that ship has sailed.

We don't have that as an option at the moment. As for future options we will have to wait and see.

Well I haven't heard back yet on mine so it looks like I probably didn't make the cut to get mine shipped today.

Geez the 3k single 1080 dm3 is SOOOOOOO tempting. Need to wait for someone else to play guinea pig first, though.
