Came with UPS today. Had to send the deliverer away again, because I had no cash lying around, but tomorrow it'll be mine. Surprisingly, it was actually manufactured at Nexøc., one of Germany's few reputable sources.
-
Had to send him away? I assume in other countries you have to pay the UPS person when they drop off?
-
I ordered via cash on delivery, to make sure the parcel is in good shape before I accept it.
-
Gotcha okay that makes more sense now. It sounds like my laptop is in the testing phase so I'm really hoping it gets sent out today so I have time to get it ready over the weekend before I travel again.
-
Wow you guys sure do have patience ... I'd be going crazy by now. Especially if I had to turn away the delivery person, while knowing the beast is within arms reach.
Kudos.

I'm glad I have a new job where I work from home most of the time. Otherwise I'd be taking a day off when this thing arrives. I do agree, I'd try everything in my power not to turn away the delivery man.

Omg thanks so much, I can't wait!!

Anyone that ordered from HIDEVOLUTION received anything regarding their QHD DM3 shipping?

Unfortunately not yet. However I'm not sure how much of a delay added things like display calibration, CPU delidding and logo removal will add to my order.

The only thing custom I asked for mine from LPC Digital was the Intel Wireless over the Killer Networks. Mine is in the customize build and testing phase so here is to hoping mine will ship today.

Mine has a delid bit no OS or disks so it shouldn't need much. Still says in processing though so no change at all.

Based on what Donald said:
Probably tomorrow earliest, but most likely next week. If you have rushed build/in the first shipment, we should get it next week.Chronokiller, SirSaltsAlot, hexum23 and 1 other person like this. -
Yeah mine was no disks or OS as well. It's nice to have a delid right out the gate. I'll probably have mine sent to a forum member to have mine delidded after ive used it a bit. Or I may wait for a kaby lake to delid.
-
Sadface... Laptop is still in customize build and testing on LPC's website. Me thinks this is not going to ship today. Maybe they'll be nice and do Saturday delivery. I did rush ship it after all lol.

don't forget, if you do it yourself (or another person does it for you other than the reseller), you void your warranty. -
I'm curious if it would be worth it to get an i5 now, then upgrade to an i7 kaby lake later. Or is that not cost effective?
Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk -

no
Kaby lake will be a 4.5 GHz from the factory. Get a Silicon Lottery 6700K that way it's guaranteed to overclock stable at 4.5-4.6 GHz
If you get the i5 now, what are the chances that you can sell it? close to none
I suggest you get your laptop from HIDevolution, that way they can get you the Silicon Lottery CPU factory delidded and they will cover it under their warranty.clayton006 likes this. -
Couldn't agree more.
For the price difference it doesn't make much sense (to me) to get the i5 over the i7.
Now if I had a spare i5 laying around and somehow this laptop came with no CPU then I would pop it in until Kaby Lake. I would not go out and buy one.

Desktop parts loose value more than laptop parts but are easier to sell.

This is almost at the top of my list of needs. I need to be able to resell whatever I get because I plan on getting Volta whenever it comes out.

It's getting more difficult to purchase a high-end laptop, enjoy it long enough, and then be able to turn it around for sale at a price that doesn't equate to much / month for it's use.
With the 6 month turn-around for new models, vs the 1 year plus we used to have, you can hardly buy it - fix the bugs for stability - enjoy it - and then sell it for a small loss - the loss is getting greater over time.
It's becoming clear to me that keeping the laptop for at least 18 months, and then selling it for much less is the only way to average the cost of ownership over the time I have it.
Which means missing 2 upgrade cycles, and having a slower laptop for 2/3 of the ownership time.
I don't have time to turn around a new laptop every 6 months anyway

Yeah with respect to this I was only going to invest in a 1 or 2 year accidental damage and extended warranty plan. From probably square trade.

Lower temp and more overclocking headroom beat voided warranty
And who said you need to screw up?

Well and you only void the warranty on the CPU not the rest of the system. That being said I may have to give their services a look in the future.

The question is why are people trying to upgrade so often? Based off my experience, most of the time people simply want the latest and greatest to have...not based on any actual need to upgrade. You can see in the smartphone industry and computer manufacturers have tried for years to condition its customers for shorter and shorter product lifespans.
If the person need to upgrade frequently for work reasons, he/she should seriously be thinking about leasing their equipment. I am guilty of upgrading my DT GPU every year, not for any need but because I want to. This year I went through two upgrades from the same family, going from a 1080 to a Titan X(p) which I regret. So, I am a part of the problem but I am now sticking to a 24 month upgrade cycle for my tech. -
Some get swept along in the frenzy, most maybe, others are really looking for long term support to allow them to keep at the forefront of performance for a long time - upgradeable CPU / GPU.
Unfortunately upgradeable laptops might be at an end.
1 GPU option that doesn't support SLI isn't enough.
And, CPU upgrade options, when already starting with the top option available at purchase, don't change enough in the same socket realm these days to make upgradeable CPU's make much sense either.
5%-10% performance improvement for another $400, and an unsalable legacy CPU that's lost it's #1 place, doesn't allow the desired asset recovery $$$.
The rapid turnover doesn't make sense economically, but some people just can't stand not being #1, and that frenzy feeds others.
Hey, someones gotta take their money, why not the laptop vendors?
Rage Set likes this. -
Well at least when it comes to CPU's with Intel's new model we get an extra year in the same socket. So that's something I guess.

But, without support for most of the new technology included with the new Kaby Lake motherboard chipsets.
The Series 100 motherboard chipsets you have won't have the functionality the Series 200 motherboard chipsets offer.
So, you will be getting a very small subset of improvements, maybe only higher default clocks, which could be easily done with a 6700k by OC'ing it.
Hardly worth $400.
And, I wonder what subset of Kaby Lake features will work on a Series 100 motherboard where owners are running Windows 7/8.1?
The Series 100 MB BIOS will need to be updated to support Kaby Lake as well... probably not an issue, but could be if the vendor doesn't do it, and a BIOS customization isn't available.TomJGX likes this. -
It's illegal in the US to cancel a warranty just because you opened your system and or upgraded a part. They have to show that your opening the unit and upgrading it is the cause of the failure. This is all technical of course. In practice all companies do this to try and force Users to buy their parts. Which on that last point is exactly why it's illegal in the US.

I draw the line when my system can no longer do what I ask, gaming or General work. Usually it needs upgrade cause it doesn't run a game I want to play. But other than that I seem to be happy at about 2 to 4 years. I have a 670 in my desktop. And the witcher 3 was the game that let me know it was time to upgrade. My i7 3770k is still going strong. Not sure how much life I'll get out of that. But you damn well bet I'm gonna milk it.

Are they releasing anything "great" for the series 200?

And to add to that. I'm looking forward to in Kaby Lake is 4k performance. From what I've heard it will make my custom loop water cooled 5960x at 4.5GHz look like a q6600 in 4K encoding / decoding tasks.

That is true and many consumers don't know that is illegal to apply "warranty voided" stickers and other "watermarking" anti-measures to devices. However, companies CAN deny warranty service if you modify a component (in the case of delidding a CPU).
The true legal battleground is computer/component manufacturers and consumers on overclocking. Most of these companies will try to deny warranty based on overclocking unless the product is developed with OC as a focus. Even then, you will notice a great deal of legalese about how overclocking reduces the life of the components and thus the computer.Last edited: Oct 20, 2016clayton006 likes this. -
I just got two emails from HID. First was preproduction, second was for "part/product on order". Not sure what that means exactly. Hopefully it isn't that they are out of stock of a part, and it's for some of the custom stuff like screen calibration, delidding, sm961 ssd or 3000mhz ram in my order.AKHIL likes this.

Yeah, but if you open the system up and upgrade a hdd for a sdd and your cpu burns up they can't tell you it's your fault.

i think this is muddying the water a little. There is a large difference between warranties when changing a component in a computer (what you posted) vs. delidding a CPU (what @Papusan and @Phoenix were posting).
Of course, adding or changing a drive will not void a warranty assuming the user did not damage anything during installation.
However, in regards to the CPU, once delidded Intel will no longer honor the warranty ( same as when a hard drive case is opened ) But if you get one from HIDevolution, what they provide is their own warranty for the CPU. That is what those posts were discussing.TomJGX and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
But if you delid your cup that shouldn't void the whole warranty. Just anything having to do with a failure related to the cpu.
Sent from my SM-G550T using TapatalkPapusan likes this. -
AFAIK, that is correct. Using a delidded CPU won't void a system warranty. All delidding does is void the CPU warranty with Intel.SirSaltsAlot likes this.
