If you are going to let a keyboard issue (which is a none issue to me) deter you from an otherwise amazing beast, it sounds like you wanted any excuse to get an AW. The P870DM2/3 isn't perfect (no DTR is) but it is the best DTR available. Nothing from MSI or AW can compare, so enjoy your BGA notebook and I wish you luck with it.

92/95C degrees and thermal throttling

Just need to consider all options. Not looking for an excuse for anything. It's a lot of money to spend and be disappointed. I want to know that I made a compromise. Before I order, not after.

I've seen 4 or 5 test of the new AW equipment. Everyone with hideous maximum temperature in tests. Thermal throttling with a pitiful low package power around 45-56w on processor is pretty scary

Apparently you can slide the drives in such a way that they are "in" but not actually connected to the SATA connector. Problem is now solved....

Not sure if this helps, you may have already seen it... But in the 2nd post there's the user manual, in section 2-5 they describe the audio hookups.Last edited: Oct 21, 2016

Congrats! If I remember correctly, you posted that you ordered from HID right before I put mine in, so hopefully I'm next

Well interesting. If I leave the fans on automatic and run Unigine Valley, the GPU temps will eventually reach 90c and hold steady. The fans are on automatic and the performance doesn't dip. I've done a repaste but I didn't check before temps.
Oddly enough it seems most of my screws were kinda sorta on the border of being stripped. I should probably ask for new ones.
The good news is, my CPU temps are down a good bit. Any advice on what to do or for now should I just leave it?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
If you are happy with the current temps, you can leave as is. Some of the guys here will suggest a delid with liquid metal and most will suggest an undervolt. Those two options will drop the temps way down.
Personally, I'm going to do a load of testing at stock for a few days. My DM3 is supposed to come with ICD applied but you can never know for sure unless you do it yourself. I have purchased tons of various TIM's over the past two weeks, including CLU. I also plan on a delid but I already have a delidded 6700K in my P870DM-G I can use if needed. All of the data I record I plan on using in my extensive review which will appear on my website first, then appear on this forum later. -
I'm used to desktop parts so I'm not sure if 90c is safe or not for the GPU? I did repaste with Noctuna which is supposed to be better than IC Diamond. I hesitate with liquid metal because I'd probably screw something up lol.

Hi guys, I've just pulled the trigger on this machine @ shenker/XMG (see sig) . I know they are not a prema partner but Im not that fussed.
From what I have seen so far it looks like this new machine is close to it's thermal limits at stock? Not that I mind that, just NO throttling and I'll be a happy bunny!
Gonna be watching all you guys waiting on 3K next week

So how do we get our Gears of War game codes from Hidevolution? I checked the downloadable products in my account, nothing so I wanted to ask.

Any thoughts on the above? I don't want to smoke these cards. I imagine the system (like CPU and other GPUs) are designed to pull back when it gets too hot but I'm just not sure what to expect out of it.
Still downloading games and my corporate apps to it. Should be a good time.

According to Clevo, the GPU's were designed to run at those thermal ranges and are safe. As a DT Overclocker, I call BS on that. My safe thermal range is 75 to 79 at Max load. I prefer low 70's. Now, I understand this is a DTR laptop with DT parts and as such, the thermals are going to be slightly higher than I like but I am still determined to hit my own safe temps.CaerCadarn, hmscott, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

Has anyone tried flying with this beast that can give feedback? Like you busted it out mid flight and started gaming or watching a movie. Does the power plug on the back of seats even provide enough power? Will the back pack needed to carry this beast be able to fit under the seat or will it have to go overhead?
Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk -
And with the GPU it sounds like the only way is liquid metal?
I believe you but you don't happen to also have Clevo's statement or link about that do you?

I'm about to fly on Monday so I can let you know about the backpack. I can tell you that I extremely doubt that the plane power will allow you to draw 330w from that one plug. Furthermore, you will probably piss off people with the fan noise (or you could sit beside me and give you a high five)!

Do you think the fan noise would still bother people if I was just watching a movie?
Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk -
In my experience, the ADP330 doesn't work with modified sine inverters. They flat-out refuse to draw power. Also, I believe most airplane outlets are rated for less power than even 330W, let alone the 500+ a hungry DM3 can draw, although that's not really a problem for watching movies. The Everki Titan fits snugly under the seat if it's not crammed full to bursting.
-
I thought you couldn't use liquid metal on the gpu due to gallium corrosion of aluminum heatsinks or something... I think with HIDevolution for the +$100 for CLU option they still only use IC Diamond on the GPU.
-
I was only considering a single 1080. So not 500+ but still. If it won't draw power at all, that seems a bit of an issue. I assume a modified sine inverter is what is in airplane seats, yes?
Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk -
I look forward to your feedback. Especially about the plug.
Totally high five!
Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk -
I'm not 100% sure, but I would guess so. They are cheaper to make than pure sine inverters and other adapters will work with them. Last time I flew, my adapter refused to power on, while my MBP adapter worked just fine.SirSaltsAlot likes this.

To preface, I fly a fair amount for my job. I have not yet flown with my P870DM3, but the thickness of my backpack is unchanged with my old laptop vs my new laptop.
This being said, I use the Everki Titan Checkpoint Friendly backpack and have flown around 20 flights with the backpack so far. All of these flights have been with my old ASUS G750JX (17.3"). During these flights, for approximately 90% of them, the backpack could fit under the seat with no problem. Please take into account that I am 5'10" so taller people may find it interferes with foot space. The 10% that it "did not fit" was due to the jet being a smaller commuter/connecting jet. In my opinion it still fit under the seat, but the flight attendants said it stuck out just a little too much so I put it into the overhead (I don't want to end up like the guy from Anger Management who argues with the attendant.)
I can't say anything about the plugs, as I haven't had the chance yet. I hope this helps.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSirSaltsAlot likes this. -
I've seen some other people use it but not sure long term what will happen. Right now there isn't a way for me to keep the GPUs from hitting 90c eventually unless I use FULL fan. The overclocked profile (fan only) will help but only to a point.
-
Crap, I didn't get a code via email. Its noted on my invoice so I will have to reach out to them monday. Thanks for letting me know.Shakeeb Anjum likes this.

what TIM did you use for repaste?

I'm thinking of going 1TB M.2 for extra storage and these are what I found. Anyone have better suggestions? Trying to keep it under $300.
