Noctua Nt-H1 isn't a good paste. ICD is better. Same is Grizzly kryonaut and Gelid Extreme. Who said Noctua is better?

I have the scan disk 2280 and those prices are up about 5-10 bucks from where they were. The WD blue is new I believe so I might shy away from that one. -
If you read the methodology he uses it seems like it was well put together. Seems that thermal compounds perform about the same.

Noctua Nt-H1
I wonder if I didn't use enough. Normally just a small thin line down the middle and let the heatsink spread it out. I've heard some people saying on here that the sink doesn't always fit flush.
Then again, I may need to tighten it down more but the screwes were already on the verge of stripping when I got to it....

The older SanDisk Extreme PRO was a big success. This one may be another top ssd from SanDisk.

You might want to listen / look to other sources as well. Thermal paste tested on test bench / desktop hardware is not always a 100% fasit for weaker laptop cooling. I have tested several thermal paste. Also this paste you use. Noctua will not follow along with me, so to speak. I call this paste more like garbage for laptop hardware. But the situation becomes another when used on desktop hardware who have better cooling aka better heatsink and higher pressure on IHS/Die. Other reputable members like @Mr. Fox can give you advices as well. I know what he will say to you

As you can see in the picture you showed from the thermal paste reviews... The difference between Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra vs. Grizzly Kryonaut (standard paste) is only 1.23C degrees. This does not match the reality for us who use Liquid metal on our processors used in laptops!! Take this thermal paste reviews with a pinch of salt

Fair Enough. I'll clean them off and give that a go. For what it is worth, from replacing what was on there (looked like IC Diamond) to this helped the CPU temps a good bit.Papusan likes this.

I'd go with the Crucial. Been going strong on my other laptop, and I've never had a problem with their SSDs before.ssj92 likes this.

Gelid Exreme and Grizzly kryonaut is easier to apply. Aka thinner consistency than ICD. Try these two if you are not satisfied with the ICD. Remember to put thermal paste in a plastic bag and warm up in a cup of warm water before applying. Thicker thermal paste spread more easily when it is warm
Yeah, It's smart to listen / look to other sources as well. +rep

Good tip did not know that. Also, Besides cleaning the heatsink do you apply any to that and / or spread it out?
For applying to the GPUs, do you do just a thin line or spread it on the die as well?Papusan likes this. -
Not on heatsink. The big Pascal die is not square. 2 thin lines hot paste and put on heasink. A cross with paste for the processor IHS
Let heatsink spread the thermal paste.

The X cross method is the best for CPU and GPU as it gives the max coverage and no air bubbles. -
The big Pascal die is not square. Better with 2 lines with paste
Use hot paste for better spreading
You are right when it comes to processor.
-
Two lines parallel to the long edge?, or two lines going parallel with the short edge?

I got in using my recovery key. Will have to figure that out later.
So using the "overclocked" fan profile I can keep the temps at 87 and it sounds like they are on all the way up. Not sure if that is expected or not?izombot likes this. -
Have to wait for my Gelid Extreme delivery to arrive, so for now I'm riding 'er in factory mode. I didn't expect the fans to be as brutally loud as they are, though. They are just as obnoxious as my old SONY VAIO, just a good deal louder. Thankfully I'm used to it, and a good repaste should eliminate the need for fan speed (and the ugly throttlery in some applications).
-
Looks like no matter what I do I'm stuck with 100% fans or hitting the 90c cap on my GPUs.

It feels all the weirder, because the air coming out from the exhausts is actually ice cold, as opposed to hot, like I was used to from my now-retired notebook

Try @Meaker@Sager's mod http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...oenix-2-is-here.794530/page-395#post-10343186
Or try the better 14 W/mK Fujipoly / Alphacool pads

i´ve just ordered some fujipoly Sarcon XR-j 14 W/mk and gelid extreme just in case, i do have a little doubt about the pads, did they come with some auto adhesive or glue? or just the heat will get the job done?
-
They are self-adhesive. But remember to take off the protective plastic before you put the heatsink on graphics

So this is just using thermal pads around the vram and vrm?

Sorry. Thermal grizzly kryo.. whatever and thermal pads?

One thing to check - there is a post from @Prema somewhere showing what the bottom cover should look like. Even though mine came with SLI, one fan was completely blocked by foil and the left front vent was as well. Check out post #1008 in the P870dm thread (I'm copy paste challenged on the iPad or I'd give you a link)
-
Yeah it looks like one of the bottom fans looks like it's blocked. When I get home ill have to check. What did you do just cut it away?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
See the link I posted in the previous post. Some prefer to put pads on the graphics component, while others directly on the heatsink.
grizzly kryo → Thermal paste on the graphics die

Pulled off just the foil and piece of plastic covering the vent. But yours is new - maybe your reseller would send you the right cover.

I think the foil is in the middle of the cover and not the back towards the fan. Or is it all supposed to be open?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Okay I'll order some of the kryo and try it out. I'm okay with the high 80's right now with what seems like max fan. What fan profile do people run? I'm using the "overclocking" profile right now. That's only for fan.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
It's not exactly centered. Check out Prema's pic ...it covers VGA 2's fan.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
The P870DM is definitely quieter than the P870DM2/3 with max fans. Having said that i never reach max fans when using the automatic or overclock fan settings on the P870DM2, while gaming. I should note that I have delidded my cpu and that prior to delidding the laptop was very loud while gaming, probably louder then the P870DM.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
Then I may need to have that removed / replaced. So they make a cover without this? I'll need to check when I get home.

So what is the recommended "tuning" products I'll need? Just ordered a single 1080 P870DM3 w/ vapor chamber cooling from HIDEvolution.
For CPU I want to to delid, clean, apply CLU and relid...
1. Rockit 88? Do I need a relid kit?
2. Does the Rockit kit come w/ cleaning supplies after delid?
3. CLU or Pro?
4. What type of paste for GPU? Anything else I should do for GPU cooling? Thermal pads (no experience with these)?
Anything else I need to order while I wait for my beast? Coming from a Sager 560m system and cannot wait for BF1 and SW Battlefront.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

why not have HIDEvolution Delid your CPU so you won't void your warranty?AKHIL and boricuafly like this. -
The air out of mine feels extremely hot so I think mine may be circulation. On your bottom panel is there a foil like plate covering a fan?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I don't believe Clevo sends out covers with the foil removed. You have to do it yourself.
-
Do I need to go with an 18.4 inch back pack from them or will a 17.3 inch work too?
Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk -
I'm not sure about Everki, but my Swiss 17.3" laptop backpack doesn't fit the ASUS G750JX or the P870DM3 because the laptops are too thick for the pocket.

Well an update. With the bottom panel removed and the laptop upside down, the temps stabilize around 66c and then come back down after valley is shut down. When I put the cover back on and leave it upside down the temps stabilize at 80c and take about 3-5 minutes to come back down.
If anyone has this machine without that foil or could take a screenshot of it I would appreciate it.
Here is mine for reference:

I removed only the area directly over the VGA2 fan. Lowered temps around 3-4C IIRC.hmscott likes this.

How did you go about doing that? Seems like it would help me extremely!
