oh, I did not know that there are 2 types of BIOS for the 4k panel.

I actually have a P775DM3-G, is it the same with this laptop too? How do I know which BIOS I have ?

Oh, I have no doubt. I just wanted to be specific, and I think most of us know EXACTLY what screen I'm talking about :D
64Hz is the max it will go due to bandwidth limits on the eDP revision we have I believe.

    Yeap
Yeap, at least on the DM1. Not sure if DM3's eDP port has higher bandwidth.

DM1 for sure. Im not sure if its fixed on the DM2/3. Hit up Prema , he will know for sure ;)

I have a spare 40pin eDP cable if you wanna borrow it for science.

I haven't noticed any low performance while gaming. Granted the only test I did to compare with my desktop was the Unigine Valley and that is all CPU bound but it did perform where I expected it to be.

I believe BF1 and Fallout 4 are about in line as well. If I get the opportunity I'll run some 3d mark.

I contacted support and they sent me a file for just the BIOS. 1.05.02. I think they may have sent me the wrong one as inside the zip file it says P870DM2_02.LS2
    That doesn't seem right....

Anyway after going into the efi shell as per their instructions it wouldn't load anyway. Any advice here is appreciated.

Humm you should be flashing the 1.05.04 EC , they may not have understood the complete issue and I don't see this happening in their package at all. I am sure they will correct asap though @hidevolution.

    Hello everyone,

I did a NVRAM reset by temporarily removing the CMOS battery and now my CCC (.50) no longer has the "Overclock" fan setting. I've tried reinstalling CCC to no avail.

Also I still have no ability to control the brightness of the screen. I've tried to using DDU to uninstall and then having Windows install the video driver.

    Thank you for your help.

If u just want the overclock profile its in the config file in the hotkey install dir to enable and will show up after reboot. At least the versions I have look at that is.

Considering your not that far away, that wouldn't be a problem. :)

    Ok, thanks.

I do have Fallout 4 but not BF1 though....Fallout 4 runs no problems except for if the FPS is too high.

Ok, so I got to test a 3k screen today and man! that text is tiny! lol It seem to scale faily well at 150% without losing a bunch of space. Anything above that and you start missing the tops of certain windows for programs. Like firestrike for instance. I dropped down to 1080P and it filled the screen, but text was seriously blurry. I think 150% also worked pretty close to make it crispier on 1080p. max is 225% Also.

Ok Thanks. I will measure them the next time I have it open. I ordered some Alphacool 14 W/mk in 0.5mm and 1mm. Not sure I will open it up anytime soon but for next repaste.

As you saw from Mr. Fox, these machines can be OC'ed quite well. Even with the modest +100/+100 OC, the machine didn't go very high in temp (about 82c) and was quite stable (I played a game for over an hour on those OC's). With a delid/LM CPU and a repaste on the GPU's, I am sure I can go higher.

That's moot at this point. I'm sending it back. My reseller made me very angry and I won't ever deal with that company again. It's a damn shame too, now that the machine is working as should, it is quite the monster even with a modest overclock.

Did you like it? After calibrating the screen myself, I say I like it A LOT. If/When I get my P870DM3 from HIDevolution, I am definitely getting the 1440p panel again. The 1440p screen made it difficult for me to go back to my FHD panel on the P870DM-G.

Let me clear up the conflicting information about the availability of the 3K screen and cable as individual parts. It turns out we had a very limited window around the end of October when we could source the 3K QHD (2560x1440) screen and cable as individual parts. Unfortunately that window has now closed, and we don't know when it might open again.

This is also why you see such high prices from some that are still offering it...there are so few of them available now, if you can't wait for the price to stabilize, you will have to pay whatever those that have them demand.

The only panels on the Clevo 17" models are:
    • LP173WF4-SPF1 - 1080p, 72% NTSC gamut, Matte, 60Hz (oft BIOS OC'd to 75Hz but not guaranteed; changing BIOS can change inherent overclock) 25ms response time, 6-bit colour, IPS.
    • LP173WF4-SPD1 - As above; minor if any differences. Seems interchange-able.
    • B173HAN01.2 - 1080p, 94% NTSC gamut, Matte, 120Hz, unknown response times; likely 25ms, 8-bit colour, AHVA (IPS).
    • B173QTN01.0 - 1440p, 72% NTSC gamut, Matte, 120Hz, 10ms B2W & 31ms G2G response times, 8-bit colour, TN.
    • B173ZAN01.0 - 4K, unknown NTSC gamut (88% Adobe RGB & 100% sRGB clear), Matte, 24ms B2W & 40ms G2G response times, 8-bit colour, AHVA (IPS).
Edit: Thanks to john for clarifying the 3K panel's colour depth and Drevan for providing a proper review link.

The one you showed? If I remember, that's the LP173WF4-SPF3 right? It's the same as the SPF1 (I literally cannot figure out a difference between them, just like with the SPD1). I've never seen it being sold before, though.

For God's sake, someone with that new 3k display PLEASE give their gaming experience already...the 75 hz LG panel becomes choppy/blurry when the FPS drop under 70 (the notability depends on game), is this the case with the 120 hz 5ms panel too? Are games blurry under 60 FPS and if you focus your eyes on something on the ground, does it look smooth when you run passed it or it looks like it it was "shaking/vibrating"?

I dont care about the 3K resolution, all I want is to noticeably reduce the above mentioned problems...

With settings on ultra on Black Ops 3 i cant get it to drop below 120 fps at 1440p. It is a much faster screen than what im used to on a laptop. Not the response of a 1ms TN screen though... Those are ripping fast. If you're watching a B-movie where the camera person isnt very skilled the scenes look shaky as heck.
Im probably getting BF1 in a couple of days and ill look for some of the symptoms you've described. Do you run alot of anti aliasing to get your game down to 60fps? Some of those effects you mentioned sound a bit like anti aliasing symptoms

Mine is on the truck for delivery today... I'll try and give you an idea based on my opinion when I get it in. I play BF1, but my desktop screen is a 1080P 60Hz 3ms one... So I don't have another 120+Hz/low response panel to compare it to.

Anyone overclocking the GPU's are you actually seeing any differences? When I monitor I see voltage and power limits bumped upon at the stock clocks, raising doesn't provide any extra performance on the 1080s.

I guessed AA too, but there no matter what I set, I did not see any difference. There are games that cant hold 75 FPS even without AA. Good example is Far Cry 4 or Rise of the Tomb Raider. If you push everything to the max, they cant hold 75 FPS even on fullHD.

With two 1080s at +150/+0, I have RotTR running at 4K with FXAA and everything else maxed and it sits comfortably around 65-70 fps. There's a few occasional dips below 60, but not many.

The Chi Mei panel has 6.8 ms b2w and 26ms g2g and 1080p resolution (which results in higher fps).
The AOU B173QTN01.0 has 10 ms b2w and 31 ms g2g and 3k resolution (which results in lower fps).

Both are TN and both support G-Sync.
Chi Mei has 100% sRGB while the AOU has 84% sRGB.
Chi Mei (according to the numbers) is faster with games, has less ghosting (but probably cant see) and has better color accuracy compared to the AOU.
So if we consider gaming, in my eyes the Chi Mei is the better one. Why cant Clevo source this? :/

I cant doubt what you're saying as I dont have those games.
But without AA, taking my experience with my GTX1080, and online performance specs from those games..im surprised you have those framrates at 1080p.
If I was a little more experienced I might be bold enought to think that your system may have an issue.

This is actually normal. I have a dekstop too with around the same specs and it gives about the same result. Dont forget that other people who are getting around the same fps with a 4k screen have 2x GTX 1080.I only have 1.

He has some dips too to the lower 70s. The small difference is because that MSI is an OC version with higher clocs.

Ooo, it's 8 bits! This is good to know. If AUO is going to make 8-bit laptop panels all the time now, then it's about freaking time. Thanks for showing this!

Yes, you're right. The Chi Mei really is objectively better if that's the case. Colours are better and it doesn't have the issue people were talking about earlier. Anyone know if it's 8-bit or 6-bit? Either way response times are bad on both, but now seeing the QTN reviewed properly (I couldn't find a review containing it before) it seems to be less desirable to me in that respect. Not that the Chi Mei is much better.

Anybody got a review of the AUO 120Hz 1080p?

I missed that review on the AUO 120hz 1440p screen, pretty disappointing response times, how can they advertise these screens as 5ms response time screens when they clearly aren't .

I thinking it might be a better idea to just buy a 24" 1ms 180 Hz G-Sync display...its cheaper, faster and I wouldnt play anyway during travel where the external monitor cant be used.
I just tested the laptop with my 144 Hz 1ms G-Sync panel at home and its not perfect in Far Cry 4, but noticeably better.

Does anyone know how to change the color temp on the 1440p auo screen? Its screen is way to "cool" for my liking. Its very hard to find a warmer ICC profile. Anyone have one?
