Will a mini display port adapter allow it to run at the native 100hz?

My Alienware 18 allowed my swift to run at 144hz via the mini-display port. I'm sure the MD port on the DM3 will allow 100... id hope so anyway -
Mine does. I think it's the same standard...just smaller.

if you purchase the correct one allowing the bandwidth yes, I use one from my P870DM3 to my X34.

I have a P775DM3 and 144 Hz works with the miniDP.

Having an issue with graphics driver here. I've tried the one included on the disc, download direct from Clevo, and both the desktop and laptop Geforce drivers directly from Nvidia, but every time it says "This NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows."
I'm running Windows 10 64-bit and always downloading the 64-bit drivers.
6700k and 1070. -
I normally extract the official Nvidia executable and use a modded INF with it. I also delete a lot of the folders contained within, they usually install crap (GFE and etc). You can get a modded INF on websites like laptopvideo2go
Also make sure to use DDU to clean your system before installing the new video driver.Papusan, jaybee83, afloyd and 1 other person like this. -
Thank you! Ran DDU and the next reboot it passed the compatibility check.

Can anyone please tell me if there is any graphical corruption with the 1440p screen if both DX12+G-Sync is used?
There is something terribly wrong with the NVidia drivers (All of them!), because when G-Sync is used with a game which is using DX12 API, then the graphics are corrupted compared to DX11.
The problem only occurs when G-Sync is used with a LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1 laptop screen. The problem does not occur when an external G-Sync monitor is used. The problem is software level, since I was able to capture it with screenshots, so something is wrong with the NVidia drivers. I first encountered the problem 7 months ago with LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1+GTX 980 combo, but it still exists with LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1+GTX 1080 combo, so it is not a VGA problem and it is not a panel problem which can be fixed with changing the panel to another same model. It seems to me that there is a bug when the driver needs to sync this panel. The problem is that NVidia did not fix it yet and probably never will.
I have made some comparison screenshots in Rise of the Tomb Raider and Gears of War 4. The problem only occurs when there is movement and can not be noticed when standing still. There is no problem if G-Sync is disabled.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/191315 Rise of the Tomb Raider
Also with DX12+GSync+internal display there are even some stuttering/frame skipping too.
Is the support for G-Sync for newer games really this bad for laptop displays? -
Running Timespy, CPU hits 91c. I have CCC v50 w/ fan control set to Automatic, and the fans never really ramp up.
Is there a setting i missed, or do I have to set a Custom fan profile, or do I manually have to FN+1 to get the fans to 100%? -
That almost looks like the bit depth is out of whack. Can you check in NVCPL what other bit depth's are available to you under the change resolution section.
-
Only 32 bit dekstop color depth and 6 bpc output color depth.
-
Hmm, what does it show for the external monitors? I once had that issue with my Benq 2411Z, and it turned out that my Output Dynamic range was set to limited. But it might be different for Internal Displays, my 4k Panel shows 8bpc and the option to choose full and limited.
For example i have this :

Trey. I have the same issue with automatic mode I use overclock mode now when gaming or running timespy. Custom fan profile doesn't do much for me either. They did not do a very good job with the automatic fans or custom fan profile in my opinion. Spoke with sager about it and there response was to set the fans to full speed when gaming because automatic fans were only for regular use like surfing, etc. I personally thought that was a weak excuse for a poor automatic fan profile but have got used to just using overclock mode now. Hopefully they will work something out in the future.izombot likes this. -
This is what I have:
I was thinking in getting the 1440p screen, but considering the price I canceled it. I mean, what if G-Sync+DX12 is broken with that one too?
+Most Ubisoft games run at 40-50 fps with 2560x1440p resolution+max graphical settings which I dont think even G-Sync can smooth always out so surely stuttering can be spotted.hmscott likes this. -
Dang, im pretty much clueless now, as to why it happening.
-
Probably the FHD screen (and maybe the others too?) is not fully supported by NVidia...good thing this is just a $300 cheap Chinese laptop so it doesnt matter if its not working perfectly...oh wait, its a $3000 laptop! Chinese quality at its best ...Ashtrix likes this.
-
That wouldn't cause software-level artifacting. It's probably just how mobile G-Sync is implemented.
-
Yea, thought so. This is probably just a bug with the DX12 API. Bad news is, NVidia will probably never fix this. So in other words, if you want to play a DX12 game with G-Sync on your $3000 laptop, you need to buy an external monitor. Pathetic...
-
So does it only happen with G-Sync?
-
Yes, only with G-Sync and only with DX12 API. G-Sync is the culprit because if it is turned off, the bug disappears with DX12 API (and stuttering sppears instead). I wonder if the SPD1 screen is affected too or only the SPF1 screen ...
-
Ahh, then i really doubt its hardware. More of a combination of ****ty implementations by Nvidia/Microsoft and of of course Clevo.
Personally, i havent used G-Sync more than once and find it rather gimmicky specially with the latest GPU's.Ashtrix likes this. -
Same bug was 7 months ago with the P775DM1-G which had GTX 980. However that had the same screen model too. I am now really interested if all laptop panels are affected or the LG Display LP173WF4-SPD1 and higher res panels are working okay.
Unfortunalty G-Sync is needed for this panel because without it games stutter. Personally I would never choose this panel again. The colors are excellent, but many games are not smooth on it, even with high fps. Very good for web browsing and watching movies, but only "acceptable" for gaming. For example UWP games dont even like this panel, because games like Gears of War UE and Gears of War 4 wont even detect the highest refresh rate correctly with G-Sync ... with many drivers GoWUE locks at 45-50 FPS when G-Sync is active and GoW 4 locks at 68 FPS instead of 75.
And now it seems G-Sync+DX12 is also not supported for this screen (at least correctly) ... this FHD LP173WF4-SPF1 screen is very, very bad choice for gaming if you want a smooth experience and no bugs.
Now I wonder if the SPD1 is also this bad?
ps: when setting the V-Sync to OFF or FastSync the laptop scores higher FireStrike graphics score with an external monitor than with the LP173WF4-SPF1 screen, in other with this screen you will even score lower in 3DMark too lol
No overclock:
External monitor 22.000 graphics score
Laptop display: 21400 graphics score

-
Ok guys, time for an update.
I decided to have 1 last tear down and repaste in an effort to get this heatsink contact under control.
For the first time on a delid I decided to clean off the adhesive between the IHS and CPU die on the delid. I also gave IHS and Heatsink a short polish. I also added replaced the 3mm* pad on the heatsink closest to the CPU with a 1mm pad after confirming it would make contact. I left the standard 3mm* pad that runs parallel as that only just made contact previously.
These tiny changes seem to have allowed good enough contact that I'll probably keep this heatsink for now.Ashtrix, Donald@Paladin44, lctalley0109 and 8 others like this. -
ensuring and checking for good contact with thermal pads is something a lot of users underestimate
good job there, buddy!

When you mention "overclock mode", are you referring to "Performance" mode? Here are the default settings that showed up when I installed CCC v50.

I may have to do the same as you. My temps are horrible as well. How much of a difference have you seen?
-
Yeah I recommend it. It's hard to say just now as I didn't have time to test much but conservatively at least 10 degrees.Last edited: Nov 21, 2016Ashtrix, lctalley0109, jaybee83 and 1 other person like this.

best thing u can do is take out the gpu with the heatsink attached and check visually from all sides if the thermal pads make proper contact with the intended components. also check if any components are not covered at all. do the same with the cpu side and make sure the pads have indentations from the components, thats a dead giveaway of proper contact.
i ordered myself phobya ultra 3/4mm pads, as well as arctic cooling thermal pads at 1mm after having experienced crashes and bsods during benchmarks and gaming at STOCK clocks and voltages
since ive done extensive cpu and ram testing i can vouch for those components. the gpu, however, has been left alone at either underclocked/powersaving or stock settings. so im betting the stock pad layout is crap

Mine shows a overclock mode under system program. Other way to get to it is by clicking on the gaming tab and go to GPU overclock and turn it on there.

If you replace the adhesive again after the delid there is a chance the adhesive will swell and it will still not make perfect contact making the temperatures around the same as what they were before the delid. Did you put adhesive back in place? I completed a delid friday myself and put a very small amount of CLU on the die as well as masking everything off with tape other than the die as a precaution and just used a little bit of cheap gel superglue on the corners to keep it in place instead of adhesive. Difference was about 7C at low temps and around 10C at higher temperatures. I did not replace the thermal pad but maybe I will do so next time. Thanks for looking into the thermal pads! -

Gotcha. Not sure about ssj92. These thermal issues has had me worried abiut this machine from the beginning. I don't have time to fool around with it so I paid HID for delid etc. Donald said they rebuild the cooling systems from ground up. So I was feeling more comfortable with the purchase. Mine is on truck for delivery a day early so I re-arranged my schedule to wait to sign for it. Was suppose to be headed out of town for work for the day.. work can wait.afloyd, lctalley0109 and hmscott like this. -
Oh great.. you'll have it in your mitts soon
I know what you mean. These machines sing with a delid and a firm fitting heatsink, there's so much to gain! It's a necessity in my view and not the full experience without it (says the guy with a single 1080
).
Having Hidevolution do it for you is good since they can get it right before it goes out the door. I kind of wish I had done the same up until recently - mainly because it is time consuming and a waste of TIM testing and doing Clevo's QC for them.
You'll love the machine though bro. No regrets out of me. It's an absolute filthy beast.Ashtrix, afloyd, jaybee83 and 1 other person like this. -

It makes the machine run a little more quiet since the delid. Just need to upgrade to the vapor chamber to get the GPU temps down a little more and maybe the machine will run much more quiet!!afloyd likes this. -
Version .50 of the CC does not have Overclock fan profile, CPU OC app and GPU OC app either. Its kinda only for to set Keyboard lights.lctalley0109 likes this.

Version 5.0001.0.73. May be a newer version. Not sure. -
@ssj92 So... Apparently I did have FlexiAccess with my version of CCC, you just have to first enable it by right clicking the taskbar tray icon & enabling it for it to show up in CCC.
I did have some issues trying to get it to work initially, although not exactly sure why. I had previously paired my phone/laptop when trying to get it to work the first time. But after "enabling" FlexiAccess on the laptop, it still stated it could not start the service. So I unpaired the phone, re-paired it, then it was able to sync up correctly. It seemed to do ok, I left it connected for around 2 hours... But you only get GPU options
So here's the screen shots of it working:

I do not but it is pretty simple program. If you click on control center you can set profile to quiet, power saving, performance or entertainment. I chose performance. You can click on system program and set your fan speed to maximum, automatic, overclock or custom. Custom or automatic did not do much for me as far as keeping temperatures down but some were able to keep there temps low enough. I chose overlock here. You can choose device in order to enable touch pad or disable, enable camera and turn flexiaccess on or off. You can then click on the gaming tab in which you can set left windows key to enable or disable, change headphone impedance, you can access flexikey from here, CPU Memory Overlocking and GPU Overclock. Under CPU/Memory overclocking you can change memory timings. Under CPU you can change all the core ratios and cache if you want to OC. You can mess with power limit CPU voltage. I have used -110 mV adaptive offset for stock CPU settings and Afloyd uses -70mV at 4.5 all cores 4.3 cache. Both of those worked for me. I was unable to get much higher than -110mV offset without crashing but some were able to get in the 130's. You can set your CPU VR limit as well. Under GPU overlock you can adjust GPU overlock to on or off. Can adjust your core and memory increment up or down and offset fan speed.Anthony Accioly, Ashtrix, afloyd and 1 other person like this. -
