So you're saying after using liquid metal, the laptop is basically worse than a desktop portability wise? That's really bad.
I thought after scrubbing the heatsink, the liquid metal would essentially bond with the copper surface and stick forever. If using CLU means we would never be able to put our laptops in backpacks anymore, then screw it.

It should, most desktops are verticle the entire times anyways. If you have a warped heatsync then I can see it as being a bad idea but if you are just using it between the die and IHS, cmon man.

I bring my laptop around with CLU installed. With electrical tape around the die and a traditional paste sealing the CLU inside, it doesn't matter if the CLU leaks because it can't reach anything to damage.

So it WILL leak? I'm looking for a do-and-forget solution here, not to mention the pain we have to take removing the CLU after it hardens, people are literally saying they have to sand it off.

At this point I've decided to return the CLU and ask for a refund. There's no way I redo this every once in a while on my laptop, not to mention losing the ability to carry it around without freaking out.

At least for me, I want to use a laptop, not admire a statue.

moving habit is probably one of the reason but the biggest reason is likely heat.

I use CLU and i have repasted a few times as temp would worsen after about 6month to 1yr of use, cause i run my cpu at high clock and high temp all the time.

even if CLU hardens and connect cpu/heatsink together, once heats up and cools down repeatly overtime (expand and contract), its bound to have little cracks, just like all soldering and its #1 reason of killing a lot of poor soldered GPUs.

once cracked, contact is lost and performance is reduced.

You shouldn't need that much. Leakage should only be a concern if you've used too much.
I'd recommend using Artic Silver's surface preparation bottle.. can't remember the exact name but it's good in that it allows it to stick down into the surface nicely when you spread.

I use the arctic silver cleaner on all my systems when cleaning stock gpu paste off before putting on waterblocks or new coolers. Two step process is nice and does a good job. Smells like a orange or citrus of some kind.

I've had CLU on my Alienware 17 for a year no problem and even on my P870DM no problem.

However, I will probably switch back to IC Diamond on my P870DM3 because for some reason my temperatures are worse with CLU on the CPU. Maybe my heatsink has poor contact like all the Clevo's I've owned lol.

I bought a Sager NP9872 from Xotic PC. I love it, but wish it had a Prema bios. I'm having graphical issues with Kodi and I'm wondering if it has to do with the 1070 gpu. I have read that there are some issues with the 1070 that will only be fixed with a bios update. I cannot find a Sager bios download, so I doubt there is an update. Is there any way for me to buy the Prema bios? I realize his might not be updated, but I know it's better and want it anyways.

Actually sager DOES provide BIOS updates but it's not on their website, you have to email them and they will guide you through the process.
However from my personal experience, their technical support is just as bad as any other brand... hope you have better luck though.

Assuming there's only one of these panels out there and the aorus x7 is using the same one. I think notebook check did a review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Aorus-X7-DT-v6-Notebook-Review.183986.0.html

That means this screen has PWM too. 58 hz. Should I care about this? Is it too personal a thing for one to generalize about if its a bother or not?

Hello guys, I have been lurking around this forum for a while now. Just about to order this beast of a machine. My budget stands at £3, 000. PCSpecialist has the new P870DM3 chassis starting @ £ 3, 000 with 1080sli config. Now I can't quite afford it so I thought I will go with the 1070 SLI option. PCSpecialist doesn't stock that variant and I couldn't find any other UK based Clevo reseller (XMG's website seems to be down) so I will have to get it from one of the European resellers. I am inclined to go with Clevo Extreme Gaming as their i7 6700K/1070 SLI/16GB/4K config comes out at £ 2, 900 ish. I have read through the thread and it appears that 1070 SLI seems to be just 20% off 1080 SLI performance, and about £ 750 off its price! Savings with a single 1080 are even better and it doesn't appear to be that much off the mark when it comes to performance.

So I just wanted to ask your suggestions about the configuration. Whether it would be better to go with a single 1080 or 1070 sli (or if by some miracle I can get a second hand machine with 1080 sli/i7 6700K :D )? I will be using the machine to play games ( Witcher, Skyrim, and Fallout latest variants), graph analysis, AUTOCAD, rendering, photoshop/lightroom use, simulations, and finally writing my doctoral thesis. I understand that is the full monty and thats why want to get the best config that I can.

    Regards,
    D

PS: Many apologies if this is a trivial question/wrong thread, I will move the post if that is the case. Thank you.

@Phoenix I just checked CEG's website and it appears that they offer single 1080 GTX (and 1070 SLI) in the P870DM2 chassis. Since they (as well as local British reseller PC SPecialist) offer 1080 sli configuration only in P870DM3 chassis I am wondering if DM2 chassis won't be able to accommodate 1080 in sli?

They're both the same chassis, just have a different heatsink. The SLI upgrade should come with the other heatsink if/when you decided to upgrade

    EDIT: What @Phoenix said!

Unfortunately that is going to be a problem. You see CEG only offers DM3 chassis with dual 1080 and that is retailing for £ 3, 200 +! I emailed @clevo-extreme about possibility of getting the DM3 chassis with either 1070 sli or 1080 gtx and they told me that would be an extra 300/400 euros.

@afloyd if I understand you correctly, you mean to say that I can order the single 1080 DM2 variety, and when a couple of months later I order the 1080 sli upgrade pack, it would come with the new heatsink and that is pretty much the only difference between the two chassis?

In between, many thanks guys ( @Phoenix, @afloyd). I really appreciate your help.

The only difference between any variants of the P870DM2/3 is the GPUs, heat sinks, and PSUs.

I believe that's correct, i was confused in all this as well... Recently @Donald@HIDevolution posted a description in this thread of the model differences that cleared it up for me. I have a single 1080 "DM2", but with the dual GPU heatsink for better cooling... So in essence a single 1080 DM3

EDIT: As @Q937 pointed out, the single 1080 is single PSU, the dual has 2 with a PSU adapter which I dont have yet. That does come with the dual 1080 upgrade kit from what's been stated though

I wouldn't do that man. Get the P870DM3 with a dual 330w power adapters otherwise you will regret it, you need dual 330w to power those Dual 1080s in the future not dual 230w power adapters as you have configured. Also, the P870DM2 and DM3 are not the same. If you can't afford it now, I suggest you wait a while till you get more cash and do it right from the get go. P870DM3 with dual 1080s

@Phoenix it was @clevo-extreme I was talking about. They have DM3 chassis (& 330W psychology) available only with dual 1080 configuration. From what I understood over email exchange with them, they can build me a single 1080 or dual 1070 in DM3 chassis but then it would end up costing me extra 300/400 euros and that puts it out of my £3000 budget. I guess I will need to rethink how I finance the machine. Maybe I should use my credit card for once :D

Well, in my defense, I am buying new and will have a 5-year warranty.

Also, this drive will be for games only. If it fails, I'll get a warranty replacement and redownload my games lol.

For important stuff I use my HDD and 950 Pro only.

that's your choice bro. After my horrible experience with the 840 EVO, I swore to never buy TLC SSDs EVER. I don't give a flying duck about warranty

    What happened to your drive?

I've been running a 850 Evo SATA SSD for over a year no issues thus far (500GB). That is also for games only though.

    deterioration in performance.

about warranty, the reason I said I don't care for it is because Samsung doesn't honor SSD warranties in Dubai and even if they did, sending it for an RMA then waiting to get it back is a big hassle. I'd rather have a reliable MLC SSD and be done with it.

Not sure on ocz but check this link. Seems like a good deal. 120 off.

Right now I am running Sandisk x400 as one m.2. Could I use this ocz as nvme and the other drive as well? In other words does the bios only allow for both to be nvme?

I need storage not speed for this drive. For speed I already have a 512GB 950 Pro NVMe drive.

I'm not sure if we're able to run one NVMe and one non-NVMe but we will find out because I'll be ordering that 850 Evo drive. It should work though.

Performance wise looks to be around the 950 pro but much cheaper at 210 dollars.
