Thanks to the Bro Mr. Fox.

I have my Notepal Fan Mod almost finished.
Last night I connected the large 140 mm fans of Noctua both to the Sony USB adapter, which via USB from 5V to 12 V switches.
    http://www.ebay.de/itm/150898721583?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Now I'm still waiting for the power supply for
    https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00NQ55Y8Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Power supply:
    https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002V9S46K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I will also be able to regulate the fans and current they are also supplied differently than via the USB port.
The draft is now noticeable after the changeover from 5V to 12V.
The remaining three fans from the original Notepal I will also still change and also the metal plate cut out.

After the conversion to 12V, the temperatures during the game of Fallout 4 remain at a maximum of 61 degrees C of CPU / GPU at a room temperature of 25 degrees C.
And the fan noise of the Noctua is hard to hear though it is over 45 dBA.

    @Mr. Fox @jointhegame @lctalley0109

Can one of you please get a measurement of the thickness (1.5mm?) of the metal sheet used for the Notepal U3 Plus? I was thinking about making my own custom stand, I currently have this one and like the adjustable height for the back, but I don't think it blows all that much air. I would like to make something like a cross between the Notepal U3 Plus & the one I have, with higher quality fans of course...

I do not have an exact tool for measuring the thickness.
No laser or slider. Only a 2m measuring tape.
But with my 2m measuring tape I would say it is about 1.7-1.8mm thick.
Perhaps the others have such tools.

The metal from Notepal is really good.
It can be formed. It also carries a lot of weight.
The load distribution is good. However, I now have rubber feet under the Notepal. Because the three original front fans would otherwise be placed directly on the ground. The three original fans get the Sony 12 V Power and the Noctua get their own power supply.
Then all fans run below 12V.

Hi all, a bit of a dumb question, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out what's wrong. I'm trying to boot from usb3 stick with freedos. I created it with rufus and it shows up in the bios however when I select it the boot override menu it doesn't boot. I've also tried changing the main boot order and turning off safe boot to no effect. This has worked in the past on my previous P870DM, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for measuring! It's hard to tell from pictures, and I couldn't find that dimension anywhere on the web. I had found some others that used 2mm thick plate though, just wanted to see if this was drastically thicker or around the same.

A website I order raw material from has a 12x18" metal plate (6061 aluminum) 0.08" (~2mm) thick I'm probably going to use... Will likely be a while before I get around to completing it, have too much other stuff going on as we all tend to do, haha, but I'll post back some pictures when I get it done!

I don't have a caliper, but looking at the edge of it with a metric rule I was going to estimate 1.5mm by eyeball, so 1.8mm measured with a caliper seems right on to me. It has to be right since you used the best tool for the job.

It's more important to get the support for the top of the stand right when it's in place, notebooks distribute their weight pretty evenly which helps a lot.

Love this beast, everything runs great except Battlefield 1. Can't finish a map/match w/out crashing to desktop or a hard lock up. All other games/apps run perfectly fine and haven't had a single hiccup. Been monitoring temps while gaming and max temps were GPU 68C and CPU 92C. CCC was set to Gaming/Auto for fans. SW Battlefield w/ the same temps ran for hours w/ no issue.

Been uninstalling random software, changing video settings in-game and through Nvidia driver (graphics level, dx11, dx12, vsync/fastsync/on/off, multi vs compat vs single monitor mode, 4 different Geforce drivers, turning off AV/Firewall, custom *.cfg file settings, borderless vs windowed mode) and at least a half dozen other things recommended on Reddit and the BF forums.

For kicks, I ran my fans full speed and monitored temps... unbelievably, for some reason, if my CPU temps are below 80C, BF1 runs fine, map after map, operation after operation... where before I couldn't even get through a single map w/out some sort of crash. If my CPU temps hit 90C+... crash.

Any explanation? I"m at a loss why just BF1 seems *sensitive* to CPU temps while nothing else is.

    Guess I'll delid/CLU/relid/paste this weekend.

Edit: What's the easiest way to undervolt (since I'm not overclocked right now) and try to lower CPU temps?

If you have not overclocked you could set your CPU vcore to -100 to -170 using adaptive. I use -110 and it brings the CPU temps down quite a bit. Just have to find what reduction in vcore is stable for you. Delid and CLU was 10 degrees difference for me in BF1. I have been setting the fans to overclock mode when I play.

Automatic mode doesn't work well for me either @trey22. The fans just don't run fast enough and the temps slowly rise till they max out.

I emailed a system report to Tamas at Finalwire and they have a new AIDA64 beta out now with better support for the P870DM2/3. You can download it here: https://www.aida64.com/downloads/latesta64xebeta

I have to give props to them for being so responsive. Awesome company. While working with @Prema on the Sky X9 BIOS mods I heard from Tamas frequently. It's nice to see a company so on top of things in an era where it seems mediocrity and lack of quality control is so rampant.

Anyone having trouble installing the latest nvidia drivers? ( 376.09\Win10_64 ) It says it won't recognise any compatible hardware and the java scanner applet says "The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site." The former version had no such issues and still works.

Quick thoughts on the machine. The 1440p is absolutely stunning to me. I can't see any lines, refresh issues or artifacts. Smooth as silk at 120hz. It's the perfect resolution to screen size for a 17" laptop IMO. Viewing angles are very good, not excellent but very good. IPS has it beat in that arena (just by a hair).
25618 out of the box 3dmark11 scores. I did opt for delid via HID. They sent it clocked at 4.4ghz. Indobgeg throttlibg down to 3.5 when 3dmark11 runs.
After an hour of Battlefield 1, everything is left at stock fan profiles etc. haven't touched the CCC. Actually it's running in the task bar but willl not open to make changes for some reason. However at default after an hour of BF1 the CPU hovers around 70-71 and gpu1 67'ish and gpu2 65'ish during game play.
So hopefully after some @Prema magic, some voltage tweaks the temps will come down some and see the end of throttling as well.

Glad to hear you like it! I'm definitely enjoying mine as well!!

Not sure if you tried or not... But CCC in the task tray takes a double-left-click for me to open, then shows a tranparent "spinner" mid-screen, then pops open. Maybe that's the issue?
