The original is likely based on the application notes of the chip they used. It's a common application in the server arena for redundancy purposes.

No worries, bro. Happens to me all the time, too. I often misunderstand what I read or have to ask for clarification.
I wish I could find a service/replacement cable with the 4-pin Kycon Clevo-type connector on the end. I'd have several good uses for one, but I cannot find them for sale anywhere. The barrel type in every size under the sun are easy to find. The first thing I would do with one is take apart my leftover Dell 330W AC adapter and convert it to a Clevo version. I made a little adapter dongle for that purpose, but I'd rather replace the whole cable. I would also replace the stubby pigtail on my new AC-200 like I did the AC-100. It's much nicer with the long cord. Even the cord on the Clevo 330W AC adapter is too short. The Dell 330W AC adapter uses a cable about 18-inches longer and the longer cable is a huge benefit.
That could be. Companies frequently design something and pay another vendor to manufacture it for them. Most notebooks are a collection of parts manufactured by a variety of sub-contractors.
If Clevo designed it and contracted with Chicony to manufacture it for them, perhaps they could stake a claim on the design. I don't know (and probably never will care enough to try to find out) what the story is behind that. It's unfortunate Alienware didn't use the same design before they started dumbing down their notebooks and making them all crippled BGA trash. Their 18-inch dual GPU monsterbooks were hobbled by inadequate power supply.Last edited: Dec 10, 2016Ashtrix, Papusan, afloyd and 1 other person like this. -

Like I have said it's not a new concept or design. Nicely implemented sure and with some tweaks in rev 2 but it's a very simple setup.
I could take mine apart and have a look at the exact differences if you like. -
Any updates on the Eurocom 700W power brick?
-
Sure, if you have time to do it and are curious that would be great to see if there are any differences internally. So, you have an MSI converter box and both of the Clevo converter boxes? I am mostly interested in seeing if MSI copied the design since they are more imitators than innovators (as @Prema likes to say). But, there is certainly nothing wrong with copying when what you are copying is a good thing.
It's 780W, and all I know is that I want one. Hoping Santa will put one under the tree for me in a couple of weeks.Last edited: Dec 10, 2016 -
Just a quick question:
What does the "Residency" throttling argument mean in throttlestop? Is it related to the EC issue that caused @Mr.Fox issues with automatic downclocking of CPU? Whenever the argument pops up, I am stuck on 41x multiplier until it goes away. At that point I am able to change the multiplier like normal.

not sure about the residency but check my settings and do some adjustments to yours.....
these will max out your power limits which is fine, the system will only pull what it needs:
How to create an automated task to have ThrottleStop run automatically upon startupizombot likes this. -
The performance limiting reason that can show up as a "Yes" under residency state regulation is a symptom of current limit throttling. Current Limit Throttling is a symptom of incompetent firmware engineering. Had it been done right, the CPU would run 100% at full stock performance with BIOS defaults.
You can try the settings @Phoenix provided and they may help. If you have the wrong BIOS/EC version the problem is not going to be completely until you replace it with a version that functions correctly. It won't even function correctly running stock, unfortunately.
Clevo needs to make fixing this firmware defect their top priority, especially since only a small portion of their customers will be eligible for @Prema BIOS. It's inexcusable for the general public to need to rely on a firmware mod for basic stock performance and functionality. The firmware mods should only be important for extraordinary performance and added functionality.Last edited: Dec 11, 2016Ashtrix, Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution and 2 others like this. -
It means your voltage is going above some limit. There's no option to disable RSR in the stock BIOS.

I'm looking to buy some replacement screws for the vapor chamber heatsink. They are terrible quality. Does anyone know the name or type of the screws. There appears to be three different types used.

Disabling RSR won't fix the problem if you are running a cancer EC. Nothing will fix it except a different EC. Residency State Regulation is kind of like c-states on steroids. It's not really necessary, but it's also not necessarily a performance-killing feature when everything else works correctly.Ashtrix, Papusan, afloyd and 1 other person like this.

Thanks for the guide! I'll get right on that. I had already found your guide to auto starting throttlestop while making my way through theses forums and that has been amazing. Especially since I constantly power my machine on and off when moving to and from work.

Thanks for the explanation! I was afraid that was the cause of it. I can't wait for the Prema bios/EC and vbios. This forum is great for newbies to the world of notebook overclocking!

I think the part that maybe got lost in translation is that his machine would not POST with anything... not even a single stick of 2133. We tried all the tricks @Prema suggested as well. The only thing we did not try was pulling the BIOS chip and flashing it with a USB programmer and soldering it back on again. That would have been the next step, but we are on opposite ends of the country and he doesn't have the soldering tools.

Very odd, it might have been unlucky coincidence with another issue.
Mr. Fox likes this. -
Yes, I think so. There has to be something else going on with his machine that is not a RAM problem. The no POST issue only surfaced when he began tinkering with memory modules, so something as simple as an ESD mishap could account for it if the wrong thing got zapped.Ashtrix, afloyd and pathfindercod like this.

That would be my guess as well.
-
Ah. Then something definitely seems off.
Really hope they can sort it out. -
There is no reason for anyone to believe anything you did caused the problem. Nobody really knows what the deal is. You were having stability problems that lead up to that point with the original RAM, which was not ESD. The no-POST issue may have absolutely nothing to do with ESD, just speculation. It could be a lot of different things including a motherboard failure, which is just as likely as anything else. The instability problems that began earlier may have been induced by whatever has happened now with it no longer booting.
The point is that RAM is not the problem with your machine, and it was suggested that using slower RAM and overclocking it would solve the issue you were having. Clearly, that's not going to help if it won't POST with 2133 even after clearing NVRAM.Last edited: Dec 12, 2016 -

so today I fired up my old Eurocom Sky X9 to install a new 256GB 950 PRO and have it ready for sale, then the machine wouldn't boot, only the keyboard lights came on with no beeps or anything
What I did was perform an NVRAM reset then put only 1 memory stick. I then got the BIOS splash screen, went in there, configured everything again, then shut down and installed the second memory module and all is fine
dunno why installing an SSD caused that no boot issue but I thought I'd share my experience maybe it helpsizombot, lctalley0109, Mr. Fox and 2 others like this. -

@Mr. Fox where did you get the 180w 980DTs?

Those were never mine. They belonged to Eurocom. If you want to purchase those @Eurocom Support probably still have some available. They are super expensive and nowhere nearly as powerful as 1080. Failed in what way? Performance too low to be accepted or failed as in malfunctioning?
I have never found myself able to be pleased with a second fiddle GPU model. Spending my money on something less than the best generally leaves me wishing I had not spent anything at all and just stuck with what I already had that still worked right.
I always enjoy my SLI laptops more than my single GPU machines. The extra horsepower is addictive and very satisfying.Last edited: Dec 13, 2016DreDre and lctalley0109 like this. -

Update on the 780W AC Adapter.
It is going into final testing, with the help of @Mr. Fox and others. Eurocom and HIDevolution.com expect to have it available in late December...or more likely very early January.
Price is $499.
It is not available on our website yet...so email me with your request and I will put you on the list. -

Questionable review. The keyboard is mediocre at best. I hardly ever use the keyboard anyway. Weird the stuff he liked and disliked. I don't know what these people expect from a. Desktop CPU and dual 1080's in a laptop. It's going to get a little loud under heavy load. It'll be. Enter when we get @Prema bios. But still..... -
I will be doing a review of the amazing EVOC P870DM3 monsterbook with 3K in the near future. Waiting for the completion of the firmware mods and 780W AC adapter invented by our beast-loving friends @Eurocom Support (just mentioned by @Donald@HIDevolution) so I can perform all of the benchmarks, etc. My review will be from the perspective of an overclocking enthusiast more than a gamer, so stay tuned. It will be similar to my review of the EUROCOM Sky X9 Über-Beast on @Prema's web site. Since I abhor redundancy, it will not include most of the fluff you can read about the P870DM3 on mainstream review web sites. No point in re-hashing all that stuff.
@Phoenix posted a nice review including the 3K screen.Last edited: Dec 14, 2016Ashtrix, TomJGX, lctalley0109 and 5 others like this. -

I've been busy this past month, but I just realized that I never updated my status with my bad 1080. So here it goes.
I RMA'd it through the awesome team at HIDevolution. It turned out the card was bad. They were able to get it to me before I left home for travel and now that it's installed and pasted with IC Diamond it is running great. Fully loaded temperatures in the high 60's (delta T of 2-4 degrees on the two cards) for long gaming sessions. I tried GC extreme and Kryonaut, but my heat sink doesn't make perfect contact and I was getting a delta T of 10-15 degrees on the two cards. I ordered some pressure sensing film to try to figure out the best way to get a better fit, but they messed up and sent me the 100 psi + film instead of the lower rated stuff and I didn't have time to get the whole thing straightened out before leaving home for work.
EDIT: For clarification: "they" who sent me the wrong pressure film was an Amazon marketplace seller, not HIDevolution.

Thank you for this. Will there be pics, or at least dimension specifications? I'd rather have one adapter, but if it is significantly taller, the two with lesser height might actually be better for the way I load these in my Everki Titan.
Any other Everki Titan owners with a P870DM3 with two power supplies out there? Curious how you pack your power supplies. I put my two in the middle compartment, all the way in the back in the padded area with the power supplies standing up so the cables don't get smashed.lctalley0109, afloyd and Porter like this. -
