It's not really easy to do.
I would go to your reseller @Matten1987 -

Kind of off topic, but if I downscale to 1080p from 1440p in case I ever need some extra fps, will it look alright, like not too blurry?
-
That depends on you. It will more blurry than native.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.
-
A little bit. It's not horrible though. I'd say it's like running somewhere between 720p and 900p on a 1080p.

Okay. That doesn't sound too bad.

I wonder what the power usage of a single clevo GTX 1070 notebook compared to the MSI 1070 notebook. The MSI peaks at around 120 watts. I am seeing if the external power picks up the slack?
EDIT: you can use RTSS to find that out and that's how I found out that the MSI was drawing 120 watts as a max.

well according to nvidia the 1070N draws "a couple watts more than a 980M" so should indeed be in the range of 120-125W. since the clevo cards are all identical and have the external power supply, anything up to 195W should be safe i guess ^^ unless the 1070N has fewer MOSFETS than the 1080N, not sure in that regard...

That's why I want someone with the clevo 1070 to check to be sure, otherwise it's just theory. With the MSI I am able to clock it to the 2ghz mark but never reach it with my highest clock being 1974MHz.

Stock 1070 MXM are capped at 115W, doesn't matter if you use NVIDIAs new 'fake-overclock' or if it's Clevo or MSI...
EDIT: Well the Zotac 1070 is even capped at 90W....Last edited: Jan 8, 2017Ashtrix, TomJGX, lctalley0109 and 5 others like this. -

Clevo used the same format for all their Pascal models (incl. 1060) to introduce a new standard and keep dev-costs as low as possible since NVIDIA dropped the ball on developing MXM reference designs (well except for the next Quadros).

Does the power port actually provide power or is it just there for show?

If it won't pass ~115W at stock, then we can assume Clevo was thinking one of two things:
1 - "Prema will flash a bloody BIOS to this anyway and those english speaking fools on notebookreview will pull 200W out of this for no reason so we might as well add a power connector"
or
2 - "Let's just add it in case Volta needs more power we have the standardized design already"Ashtrix, TomJGX, lctalley0109 and 5 others like this. -
OK, so the clevo board shape and layout is their "standard" so people who have the DM2/3 can potentially upgrade to the GTX 11 cards? theoretically of course.
I'm still holding my position of waiting till the GTX 11 series before getting a new PC and I might either sell the P870DM-G or use it as a workhorse PC.Ashtrix, TomJGX, lctalley0109 and 3 others like this. -
definitely show right now, when i was playing Diablo 3 yeah i saw some 1800-1900mhz at stock but that game isn't heavy anyways, but if i play Overwatch 1440-1500mhz is my stock clock. Really hope i can start at my new job soon the interview went fine, i have donations to make
, tbh i don't oc anymore just like
@Prema said it's really a fake OC it works as long as you stay somewhat in the 110-120w range but after that, go **** yourself.
-
Supposedly. I mean they're clearly not putting R&D into making new chassis. I expect that we'll probably have another P870DM revision after the KM. This is all what Prema is saying though.
I'd keep it as a work horse or powerful travel laptop and get a desktop if you want a significant upgrade, really.skyFox90 likes this. -

Yes but the VRM chips are usually characterised and given load curves. So if you have 6 phases doubled up you can get the rating for the power delivery. -

Cooles Video Prema BIOS Mr. Fox!!!!
The value for TurboPower Max is already interesting.
Could short 200,000 without the point? = 200W.
The TurboTime Windows value is 1 sec for Desktop and 28 sec for Mobile.
Have you set the value for your notebook to 1 or standard?
What are the positive effects of switching to more voltage in the short term?
Does the processor keep the voltage more stable? -
Did I miss something? Is the Prema BIOS ready?

Higher voltages mean it will clock higher if you set it. Raising the voltage at stock has no benefit and makes the chip hotter.
-
Prema mod is out? does that mean I can order a laptop?

Okay that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something.

Well I finally got my computer and installed the new ssd. I ran in to trouble installing windows with the install guide from @Phoenix. I then found out that windows won't update when it's on a metered connection. Well here is how it did with no adjustments out of the box. Let me know if it's ok. I can't wait to learn how to do the overclock and ubder volt.

I was just about to ask something about clock speed when running Overwatch. My unit runs at 1580-1650 MHz range stock and manually set the fan to 100% yields about 1730-1750 MHz, is this normal?
I've a single 1080 btw. -
I really like this for a boot logo.
-
So it's been two full days since I've contacted Sager support and no one has responded. I've also contacted my reseller and they said something like no BIOS is available due to units not being shipped with them yet...
So I've got a CPU in hand that I can't use yet. Any help would be much appreciated.

The Prema BIOS supports Kaby Lake CPUs and fixes the CPU throttling when the GPU is active
only for Prema Partners thoughLast edited: Jan 10, 2017 -

@Phoenix @Mr. Fox Others?
What version of CCC could I install that will not cause any throttling(or XTU) issues? I found posts from a long time ago with various versions, but not sure if they are still accurate and maybe a newer version is ok now. I do not want to have to reinstall windows if I use the wrong one (as I read at one time was required to "fix" the issues).
If it makes a difference in the answer to above, I am currently on stock BIOS, but a trial EC and eventually will move to Prema BIOS. System is running very good, but would like to get fan controls back from the windows desktop, plus I will need CCC to control lighting after Prema mod anyway. -

@Meaker@Sager @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER @GTVEVO @TBoneSan @Swick1981 @Trafficante ...the Custom Prema BIOS v1 has been released for the EVOC P870x. It supports both "Skylake" and "Kaby Lake" platforms.
We are eager to get every one's EVOC P870x flashed with the Prema Custom BIOS v1, but please understand that we have a couple of hundred units to flash, and we simply cannot do it all at once. We ask for your cooperation in allowing us to schedule a convenient time to do this for you, and to understand that our customers that have been waiting the longest will be done first.
We have emailed all of our EVOC P870x customers asking them to reply with a convenient time for them to allow us to flash it for them remotely, giving each one a 3 business day window of time. This will probably take a little over 3 weeks to accomplish, so please be patient. As I said earlier, those who have been waiting the longest will be done first, and those that have shipped recently will be done toward the end of the approximate 3 week period.
All EVOC 870x laptops shipped going forward will have the Custom Prema BIOS already flashed.

It's a great BIOS. I am happy for every owner of a machine purchased from a @Prema Partner shop.
I just upgraded to 7700K and DDR4-3200 is now working. Now that I put the new CPU through the initial paces to confirm I want to keep, I will de-lid it and sell my awesome Silicon Lottery 6700K that validated 5.0GHz and benched stable at 4.9GHz.
It worked straight up. Flexikey does not have controls for the lid lighting with 6700K, so there will need to be an update to CCC for the new CPU. As expected, temps without a de-lid are crazy, but performance is very good.
Below is a down and dirty peek at stock 7700K performance (BIOS defaults) and a little relief with a -0.110V offset. Now it's time to de-lid and see how it really runs with optimal settings. I'll take a few more before/after samples of temps to show for those still on the fence about de-lidding. It's silly not to, even if you are not overclocking.

Note on 7700K upgrade... If you use @j95 desktop driver mods, you should not need to mod the GPU driver INF other than what has already been done by Brother @j95. If you are using notebook drivers you will have to do an INF mod until NVIDIA releases a driver with proper code for the 7700K. I am using @j95 desktop driver mods and have been for a long time. I did not have to do anything. My previously installed display drivers worked with no effort on my part. The INF in his mods is motherboard agnostic and only looks for GPU hardware ID, like a desktop driver (and as should be the case with notebooks as well).
