I used these :

And slapped masking tape around the other half for safety.

+1 for rockit88
all in all ive tried razor, vice and rockit88 and the latter is just waaaay more convenient, faster and just more satisfying in the end

I was using the wax paper they came wrapped in lol. Probably a good idea to use something safer.bloodhawk likes this. -

Yes if you keep the blade flat you are fairly safe.

I don't have a high enough post count to download j95's modded drivers. Does anyone have the latest INF for the latest desktop drivers? Does anyone know if the mobile ones have been updated for Kaby Lake yet?

Yeah but I'm trying to contribute vs. randomly posting. The only thing I could reply on is the VR backpacks discussion.

Hi, I received my P870DM3 a week ago from HIDevolution, so far I'm very happy with it.
Thanks to the forum people who gave so much information, tips and advice on this laptop.
I wanted to share my early experience with it so far :
- I had fans troubles, running loud randomly while idle : uninstalling CCC fixed it
- I undervolted the CPU by -150 mV, which improved temperature a lot
- While gaming I noticed the fans would get very noisy after some time so I also stress tested the GPU to see : after 20 mn at soft noise, the GPU goes up to 84 C, which is the temperature that triggers the fans loudly at high speed. It then quickly goes back to 70 C and under. Thoughts about this :
Edit : I checked the fans speeds, when GPU reaches 84 C, speed goes from 2300 RPM to 3500 RPM for all fans. It goes back to 2300 at about 70 C.- There is no need for the fans to suddenly run that loud, so hopefully Prema mod will allow full control over fan behavior, I'm getting it soon. "custom fan curve" ? same question as izombot above
- Thinking about possible solutions, I tried the same GPU stress test, but this time elevating the back of the computer at 4 cm : the GPU then stays at a stable 75 C indefinitely, fans not getting loud. Putting it back flat made the temp rise like it did before. It made me think that cooling pads solutions with more fans are maybe not that better than a stable elevating system, bought or home made. It may sound obvious, but I thought it was worth mentionning. Ideally, the laptop should have had some sort of integrated elevating system, given the components inside.

Clevo/sager systems always like slight elevation of the back but not really cared about having fans there.

Was not meant as criticism or any other way, but there is a reason why we should follow the rules. Push on with posting and all will be good

No I completely understand. I don't have the time bandwidth to be a part of more than the communities I am a part of at the moment.

The fan troubles are XTU interacting with CCC.
This is normal, and generally recommended.
CCC is needed for fan behaviour control. Prema's mod will allow you to break XTU's access to the fan tables, so it should work without the fan troubles.
Raising the back off Clevo computers is generally good. I actually wish they would put larger rubber feet on their models again like they did with the D900F. That machine did not need extra elevation. -
yep, u would need all 3 fans running because dual gpu configuration direct heat to CPU heatsink as well, its something i cannot stand which is why i still havent got this yet. <-- that and only 4 cores CPU.
clevo doesn't need to cheap out on cooling of the fan and heatsink, with giant heatsink and VC is pretty good but the radiator fins surface area is tiny, compared against GT83VR, MSI didn't backed down on that front, clevo should just gone for 4 fans if they were that worried. -
I think you need to link the heatsinks with thermal pads if you want the grid to contact the CPU heatsink?
-
yes thats how that dual gpu VC heatsink is designed. heatpipes goes ontop of cpu heatsink radiator and linked with thermal pads.
-
There's a bit of painted aluminum on painted aluminum contact, but in general it doesn't seem to be a very conductive interface between the two, even with the pad.

u'd be surprised how well it direct heats until you see them and test them seperately. with regular thermal pad its junky, if its me i'd use fuji extreme pads but those are freaking expensive.

Talking about fans, I was never able to sell my older p870 with the nice quiet fans. I just got my new DM3 and the noise is bearable but twice that of the old one, anyone have any idea what the differences in airflow etc are? They look like they would swap over easily.

You'll probably burn the old fan out on the dm3 since output is 12vhmscott likes this.

Another question, seeing as prema has customisable fan curves and from what someone posted earlier, even keyboard and lid light control, is it recommended to uninstall the ccc before the bios flash? I deliberately didn't install xtu anyway.

Mine came with ccc installed from HID. I assume HID will prep whatever needs to be done before the flash? I mean regaurd to CCC etc?

Hey @Prema,
guess you were quite busy finalizing your magic bios, tried contacting you via email. What happened to your fan replacement project. Did you find a more elegant method than me. If I remember correctly some guy even called my mod a "getto method", guess he was right... but hey it works
Also: any chance getting your bios or do I have to order a second DM3 from a partner shop outside germany

Were the delta fans a drop in replacement or did you have to modify them. Can you share details of part numbers and the process you used to do the project?
-
Disregard I just found your silence thread.
-
Hi,
Do you mean CCC will still be the only way to have some control of fan behavior ?
Is the "custom fan control" option in the prema mod only one alternative fan curve to the original ?
This is my guess after reading prema's statement about "re-design the FAN profiles" in this thread : http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...fan-curves-on-the-clevo-laptops.800066/page-2 -

Thank you for the clarification

hi preme, i wrote a mail in Hardwareluxx.
I bought a P870DM3 in Germany, i hope you are so frendly to give me the bios from the P870DM3. Your bios would make me happy. I would also like to give you something.
Please Prema, it was very importent, because i love this Notebook.
I use the 2015 P870DM3 with the 7700k and the single 1080 GTX. I use the Bios from schenker notebooks to run the 7700K.
best regards.

I just got my laptop pimped with @Prema bios. It took less than half an hour. I was happy that it was done by none other than @Zoltan@HIDevolution himself.
Had a peak at bios and it seems alot of cool new options have been added. Cant wait to go home and try out the new unlocked feature.

Wow, I just saw on Prema's site that LPC is now a Prema partner. Guess I need to ping Larry about getting the bios ... that's an unexpected surprise.
I have the same question. Looks like for OC it could be worth it to get to 5+, but the reviews show no real gaming gain. Did I miss something?Last edited: Jan 16, 2017 -
Yeap ,it's possible to keep it cool UpTo 4.9Ghz depending on the lottery.
But even then the gains are kinda marginal. -
I just ordered BIOS upgrade from Eurocom for my Sky X9E2. Is the redesigned fan curve already present within BIOS itself or will I have to install some modified EC driver?
@Mr. Fox @Prema
As a PhD student, I have access to university's laboratory and more specifically to nano silver paste that I'm thinking about using for delidding the CPU and as a thermal paste for both CPU and GPU heatsinks. It is generally used for cooling of e.g. power electronics like IGBTs. Although the material is insanely expensive it should provide thermal conductivity multiple times higher than CLU - over 200 W/mK vs. 38.4 W/mK. I'd like to ask you if you can think of any risks as I want to make sure I won't brick my laptop. I know that if the nano silver paste is heated up for over 600°C it will solidify and will become impossible to remove, but that's far higher than what these laptops would survive anyways. On the positive side, (compared to CLU) it's not reactive so it could be used just as any regular thermal paste. Please let me know what do you think about this idea.
Datasheet for the material can be found here (last page): http://global.kyocera.com/prdct/chem/pdf/paste.pdfLast edited: Jan 16, 2017
