You do realize my score is of a SINGLE 980. You're comparing 1080 SLI to 980 single.
If we add 65% for SLI to my score it would be 157.9fps which puts 1080 SLI 33% faster than 980 SLI.
980m SLI: 129fps
980 SLI (theoretical): 157fps
1080 SLI: 210fps
-
Yeap, definitely know its for a single 980.
I should have done the math, figured you misread it as 157 fps from somewhere. My bad.
But with better drivers, im sure the 1080SLI scores will go up by at least 10-15% . -
-
Can anyone tell me if there will be a 120Hz display option for this rig? Preferably with a low response time.
Those are some impressive results. -

this is simple i guess, 6700k or RAM is bottlenecking here. been there with 4700mq 980m sli setup vs 880m sli setup in Valley benchmark. took me a few runs to realize, before i OC'ed the CPU a bit. -
tanzmeister Notebook Evangelist
i think a better comparison would be 4k extreme profile, since it lowers the framerates the CPU must prepare!
-
Really doubt the 6700k is the bottle neck, at least from the desktop results. It doesn't seem to be the case.
-
tanzmeister Notebook Evangelist
i am pretty sure it can be, in some scenes. i was getting pretty simlar results with defult profile in Valley with 980m sli and 980 in p870dm too, btw -
If the CPU was the bottle neck you would not be seeing that jump in fps from 980SLI vs a 980. At least not as much.
Do this, run valley bench mark and check your CPU usage.
This is how much it uses my CPU during Valley and Heaven :

That might be because of SLI scaling at 1080P resolution. Kinda hit the ceiling of FPS. As you can see there little difference between extreme tesellation and no tessellation
4K resolution will answer the questionstanzmeister, Spartan@HIDevolution and jaybee83 like this. -
am i the only one concerned about 1080 SLI being almost exactly double as performant as a single 980? sure, theres almost never perfect scaling in SLI, but that still means that the 1080 is not really that much faster than the 980... i think 4k benching should hopefully fix that
btw @Phoenix, it was never really proven that the gpu shown on the leaked pic u put in the OP is a 1070. based on some comments from @Prema id actually say thats a 1080... but nothing confirmed yet.
this makes sense in light of his comment that they fit a 1070 into a P750DM. the shown card wouldnt fit unless ud dremel (and thus pretty much destroy) the innards of the machine very significantly! so a 1070 in slightly larger form factor such as the MSI 130W 980 is more likely. the leaked pic actually looks more like a 180W clevo 980, another thing pointing to it actually being a 1080

I actually said that we used an MSI 1070 in a Clevo P750DM...
The versions of the upcoming GPUS almost don't differ (one tiny chip position change) among the same target systems in order to only have one set of heatsinks to cover all cards.
Well, and to keep the development costs low since NVIDIA dropped doing the reference designs for them and only give out their usual design recommendations.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -
I was wondering, was that plug n play along with a vbios flash? Or is the matter more complicated with hardware mods?

Hmm, its good that the MSI version fits but how are we going to be able to get it? Availbility wise, getting MSI GPUs has almost been impossiblru for quite a while after launch...
That is going to be the real exam question to figure out..

Guys so... From those comparisons I'm not too wow'ed by the 1080's performance to be honest.. Like am I the only one?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Well, I'd like to see how a single 1080 looks compared to single 980 to be able to see more clearly. Just based on stock clocks and shader counts alone alone the 1080 is going to win decisively.
As far as the "wow" factor, the cost is going to produce that. And, the lack of ability to install two of them in my 2.5 month old P870DM-G already caused me to say "WOW" and a few other choice words that were slightly more off-color... definitely not PG-13 rating words.

Not too worried about it, at least it's running
It's too early to tell, the early numbers are usually low because the tests are done in amateur hands with stock firmware and no tunings, same for early reviews, we need to get these into hardcore OC'er hands, with Prema mods, and tuned for best performance.
Then we can compare against results from Maxwell laptops with Prema mods and tuned for best performance

GTX 1080 mobile leaked images and specs: http://videocardz.com/63141/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-mobile-gets-gddr5x-memory

It has GDDR5X (not that I expected anything different given the specs of mobile 1070 match the desktop version with very few caveats)! Gamescom and September can't come soon enough. If you follow either link you'll find a chart listing all the specs of mobile 1080 with exception to GPU clock and boost.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -
Lol.. Pretty much. Everyone's getting blown off their seat for the wrong reasons.
Alot of this is telling me that the life of upgradable ownship is going to be increasing paved with disappointment. No surprise. Now Clevo just dropped a big greasy tub on Vas on the table...and are grinning like a Cheshire cat.Papusan, Mr. Fox, TomJGX and 1 other person like this. -

Interesting. Those two cards aren't identical. Their shape is different. -
-
I'm not so sure about that. Physically they seem identical, what could be it is the angle the photo was taken, interchangeable for either slot. Since this was likely taken with a phone and the back-facing camera tends to be off to one side of the phone or the other, that could be contributing to that. It wouldn't make much sense to make one smaller than the other and all the components are all the same. Could be wrong though.

Pretty sure Meaker is correct on this one, that appears to be a separate PCB under the left GPU. In fact, it looks like its the hard drive PCB underneath the card, just like the current model.

Clevo PCB colours are usually pretty similar. As for the contents of the photo I of course can't say.

It's different shades. I could even see that on my phone after I took a second look. The blackish is a chip partially covered by the card. I used the color as the way to figure it out after my initial statement. But early morning within 30 minutes of waking up, I'm usually useless! If I was on my laptop, never would have missed the color difference...
Edit: what is interesting is the color of the underlying pcb doesn't match the mb shade either.
