He is talking about the white gunk around the SMC capacitors and resistors left over from the disintegrated thermal pads.

The good news is that the material is perfectly safe to leave there as it wont cause any trouble. If you really do want to remove it then a small pin should do the job, just try to avoid scratching the surface of the PCB.

What options do I have to secure my laptop? In case it is misplaced/lost/stolen? Work paid for this beast.

I've briefly read about software solutions. Anyone have experience with a hardware solution.

    Hi everyone,

I am a proud owner of a Clevo P870 DM2 with SLI 1070 and I5 6600k. I overclocked both GC and Proc but in my opinion i am still reaching poor scores on Bench such as Firestrike. My highest is 16.3K with gsync off. I saw someone with same config could go up to 19.6k! I would like to know if you had any advises. I was thinking first to improve the proc with a 6700K or even a 7700K (but not sure my laptop is compatible).

here is my highest results: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/13197115

Thx a lot for your answers

Yes your laptop can upgrade the CPU but your real gaming wont improve much, mostly just the benchmark scores.

I see... But how could you explain such a difference in scores with same config (i have higher oc and i repasted CPU and GPU)?

    Hello,

You can upgrade to 7700K, no problem. You have to upgrade your bios, however. You should either have Prema bios or you can use the kabylake update bios from Clevo - no problem. I can point you to it. You have to flash the new EC, then take out the skylake, pop in the kabylake and flash the bios.
Your scores are low. I had your problem in the beginning - I’m not sure what exactly fixed it - whether it was changing the i5 to a 7700K, changing the bios, having the laptop repasted by the seller (had to return it a few times, that sucked), or all of those.
I personally saw some improvement in scores after upgrading from an i5 6600k to a 7700k, and I don’t regret spending the extra money. It should also be cheaper now that 8700k is out. You can delid it and pop it in. Your score should be ~20k. I get 22k with overclock.

Wipe out your Nvidia driver with DDU Uninstaller in safe mode and reinstall Nvidia graphics driver(follow the guide in the link). Test with a few of the newest from Nvidia’s download page. Same DDU Uninstall procedure with every new Nvidia driver you test.

FYI. Use stretched mode in Firestrike setup. Not centered. You find it in options.

His low FS scores ain’t due the processor. It scores decent in physics for slightly oc’d i5-6600K.

Right OK but I have not memorised the correct score for 1070 sli nor a normal range for overclock.

Presenting the evidence when you have done your own research helps speed things up.

The next step would be to look at graphs of clocks/usage in MSI afterburner to see what the cards are doing.

Interesting what you said, i will think about it... and your scores seems nice.

I will try what you say hope it will work. I also forgot to mention but i saw on the graphs after the bench that both GC were at 99% usage, same results in Afterburner... looks like i have underpowered GC or maybe drivers are not making their jobs correctly, on the graph comparison i have 30 to 50 fps difference compared to the others it seems really huge gap.

I will try that too thx

I will make a test with Afterburner monitoring beside. For the moment i'm not home i could make the test only on Wed but quite curious to see results with all these changes. Hope that will work. I keep you posted asap. Thx everyone!

    Hi everyone,

Back to you with my feedbacks. I did exactly what you said and it worked! just some problems regarding oc with some artefacts and game crashing. I saw that Gsync deactivated make a huge difference in the results: minus 30 fps when activated! For the artefacts i am still looking for the best oc but i am surprised to lower a lot the freq as i had no problems before.

I am nearly now 20K on Firestrikes and 33K in graphics which is much more logical. Then I am still having same results on FS Ultra with a tiny improvement of 200 pts

Maybe oc is not as good as expected due to the temp in the room (around 28 degrees and 70% humidity) i have no clue if it could make a difference...

Thanks to all of you for you quick answers and support

If u want to check the scores: The 20k was with artefacts so on the edge to crash...

Great, scores are back. Pascal graphics will suffer from higher heat. It will lose 13MHz boost clocks for every 5 degrees the temp will increase (from around 42C). Colder graphics temp, the better.

Does anyone know which vendor makes the TPM chip in our NP9873 or other Clevo units. I need the firmware / security fix for my TPM and not sure where to turn.

You mean firmware version of the TPM? I'd have to go dig that up somehow. This isn't a driver fix but a firmware flash. The eventviewer log is part of the windows update that will tell your system that you need to update the firmware on the TPM.

Looks like this issue is starting to pick up some steam.....

    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product_security/len-15552

    https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/tpm_firmware_update

I wonder if this will take a full BIOS update or just a firmware update to the TPM (hoping for the latter). I have noticed strange behavior recently with booting up my laptop and the Bitlocker recovery key acting up as well as vTPM not working correctly all the time on my VMs. Frustrating...

Anyone's right side USB port just quit working? This happens every so often where that port will just go dead for no reason. Sometimes a few reboots won't resolve it.

The standalone update to fix the vulnerability in the TPM chips of the Clevo DM-Series is currently under evaluation and pending signing process and release by its manufacturer (not Clevo).
It is expected to be ready by Mid-November...

Sorry man, I haven’t had this, or read of others having a similar issue, so it might be exclusive to your unit. I take it whatever you’re plugging in works fine in the other USB ports?

    Hi Everyone,

Back to you with some news & issues!

I installed the 388.13 drivers, it s running smooth but i had the same issue that i had with the previous one. As i told you last time i get some artifact in game, the problem is that they are back, and it seems the pc runs normally with Gsync ON. As far as i put it OFF and I launch owerwatch for example, flickering starts from loading screen leading to black screen and game crash... I saw many people having issue with Gsync but when it's on, not off! (for information i set power management to adaptive as advised last time). I first thought it was oc but even on stock freq i had this problem, i tried to use DDU and reinstalled the 388.13 and 387.92 but didn't fixed it...

Also now when i ask for restart i have blue screen with 2 messages (depending): IRQL_not_less_or_equal or System_thread_execption_not_handled

So i wanted to see with you if you have this issue.

    Thx for your answers

Can you map the Temp/frequency over both with something like MSI afterburner to see what it is doing?

    Hi,
I launched firestrike ib stock freq but in middle of graphic test 2, the bench just crash. So i monitored via afterburner and honestely i m not sure how to interprete the results. The curves seem fine and symmetrical exepted core freq on GPU 1 which is higher just before crash. Is it memory leak? But even at that freq i would be surprised that the bench would crash...

Edit: After launching Overwatch this morning in windowed mode and windowed borderless the games is working just fine, so my issue is when i run something full screen and Gsync Off, really strange... (vsync off/on in game doent change anything), the graphic card is also oc so no incidence regarding the issue too

Good morning fellas, its been a while I know. So I am back on the DM3 and noticing 2 issues, I have done some searching with no luck so I wanted to mention them and see if anyone has suggestions.
    1. After a reboot sometimes I have to strike the spacebar before I can type anything. After this its fine until the next reboot.
    2. I had used the obsidian PC utility but then was prompted to pay, since I use my system at pretty much a flat clock at 4.5ghz stable I just uninstalled it and now it seems the blue back lighting on my key board is basically nothing. All other colors seem to be fine and bright.

    Any suggestions?

Is G-sync capping your frame rate to your refresh rate when you hit your monitor's max? This would lower GPU load.

    Woah what's up! lol

If you don't need any of the fancy features of CCC, try uninstalling it completely and use this:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...2-3-km1-and-possibly-other-models-too.810730/

As for the #1, I had the same issue, I pressed the windows key once and it was fine, it's an issue with CCC I believe. So try the one linked.

I remember reading something about a firmware update for the NP9873 / p870dm3 and now I can't find mention of it anymore. Before I buy the external hard drive that plugs in via USB-C I'm wondering if I need this firmware update?

You should be fine. I was using a Apple Thunderbolt Display with my P870DM3 without any firmware updates, just Prema BIOS.

Just make sure to go to the BIOS there's an option (DDI something?) change it from DDI 1 to mDP > DDI 1 to TB

Have a sample of newer revision similar to alienware panel but need bios mod to function or you're stuck driverless/safemode.

Wanted to get this notebook as soon as it came out but I waited for the kinks to get worked out by PREMA, Mr Fox and others. These notebooks are the last of a dying breed with the move of most OEMs to BGA. I am estatic i was able to get one as these notebooks as they will go down as classics to me. 2 1080s in SLI is the ultimate in power right now in a notebook. Looking at the specs and thoughts on the new updated ones coming out with 6 and 8 core CPUs I am curious to see how they will be cooled in this chassis. My wish was for me to get one of those but with the questionable cooling i opted to get the DM3 instead. I look forward to interacting with everyone and seeing you guys thoughts, fixes and updates to this notebook.

Hello, with Prema Bios, it should be a straight upgrade to KBL. Pop it in.

    Hello all!

I'm wondering if a P870DM3 with a single 1080 requires using both psus w/converter or will it accept just 1 w/o the converter?

I picked up a barebones and might add a 2nd 1080 down the line.

I think you can do it, but you will be near the 330w limit and definitely no overclocking cpu or gpu. Maybe someone else can verify.

I've got away with it but it's not officially supported. Standard gaming is fine but don't stress test it.
