You are splitting hairs. Before the tick-tock abandonment, cannonlake was the die shrink of skylake! That never changed! Broadwell took to long and had poor yields. To save face, try to continue the tick tock, they knee capped it to help skylake adoption! Meanwhile, Kabylake is the one year refresh, mirroring what was done with devil's canyon because of problems with the die shrink on broadwell and needing to put out a new product for sales and shareholders. Devil's canyon had higher ipc, higher clock rate, and better igpu, while still being built on their 22nm platform. Don't be a jackdonkey that doesn't look past marketing hype! Please, don't be that guy and embarrass yourself!

Higher clocks was probably due to changing the paste to something better.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/8227/devils-canyon-review-intel-core-i7-4790k-and-i5-4690k
"
For the jump from Ivy Bridge to Haswell last year, our tests showed a 5-10% increase at the same clock speed. Because this year is just a Haswell to Haswell Redux, there is no IPC gain and thus it all comes down to clock speed.
" -
False. True. False. True.
All they did was use more mature silicon and change the paste between the IHS and the bare die. There was no IPC improvement, and the only reason clockspeeds were bumped is most likely because they had to find a way to say "hey this is a new product, see? We didn't screw up our original one!" -
"Broadwell, which was released in 2014, was a “tick” as the size of the transistors shrunk from 22 nanometers to 14 nanometers. Skylake was a “tock” as it introduced an entirely new microarchitecture. Simple, right?
Kaby Lake is neither. At the very best, it’s a refresh of Skylake and acts as a hold-over until Cannonlake is released in 2017. It is, in short, an anomaly."
Decent article from other than my normal sources. Details changes like add 3.1 usb native, hdcp 2.2 (doesn't matter as we don't use the igpu), thunderbolt 3.0, and that will not support Windows 7. Enjoy.

I'll concede where I was incorrect, but this isn't some great new price of silicon. If you have skylake, it likely won't be worth it or will give you a performance upgrade like devil's canyon...

That's what I've been saying. But I'll still be waiting. There's much to learn.

As I expected, looks like I'll have to get used to 2 PSU's
. Although it does state 2x230w?? Typo or smaller units....

well, not necessarily. u can easily underclock and undervolt cpu/gpu to make them work properly on one 230W psu for travel purposes. at home it doesnt matter if ure connected to two full size 330W psus for full powah

I think it's not a typo, it seems plausible that a 1080 + 95W desktop CPU draw more power than a 330W psu supplies.MickyD1234 likes this.

I also doubt it's a typo. I'm happy to see dual-PSU configurations.

Yup, that's my assumption, I really struggle to get this X8 (980sli) to top out the 330w (before it all starts glowing hot), but no 2x1080 listed so that may make all the difference? -

I know for a fact that by the 16th at 6AM the NDA should have ended. European time

NDA ends tonight at midnight. Excited to see what's in store on the 17th.
-
The question is: should I set my alarm for 6am to see if I can place an order with @XMG - or enjoy a lie in
-
I'd say set your alarm since you're obviously excited for it
-
being an early adopter is a bad idea unless your seller has a 30 day no hassle return policy without restock fee -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Which we do have
-
-
I don't think they can do that, mostly because of their Clevo relationship.
-
under sager they are not allowed to do a mod bios? -
Charging a restocking fee for a return on a laptop or similar product is actually not legal in Europe ;-)

Anyone please? I need the link for p870dm3 manual. The link on page 1 is dead.

For all those wondering, most US based companies (Nvidia is a Californian corporation) set NDAs to expire according to EASTERN STANDARD TIME! This time is no different. Carry on...

nda is out apparently?

We don't know when the Nvidia NDA expires do we?
All we know is that MSI has an announcement at 21:00 PST August 15th, today, in less than 12 hours now.
We are assuming MSI is releasing Pascal notebooks, we don't know for sure, but if they do, then the Nvidia NDA should be expired by then, right?Georgel likes this. -
Thats when the NDA expires, 16th of August, 6:00 AM European time.hmscott likes this.

Having all the information filled out usually helps too.
-
You know this, or you did the math and that's how it worked out?
I don't think anyone has said the exact date/time for the end of the NDA
It's also possible one or more companies might have the lead time on the announcement, others following some time after MSI's announcement, or even before then.Georgel likes this. -
MSI's nda is up at the stroke of midnight going from the 15th to the 16th EST. Did the math and understand contracts...

I just discovered this reseller.
Now...
they offer Xeon CPUs for P870
http://www.clevo-europe.com/default_zone/fr/html/Prod_Buy.php?product=IFDMG-P870DM-G -
xeon without ecc is useless -
Too lazy to look. Is there a Xeon LGA 1151 Z170 that has more than 4 cores?
-
Possibly after coffeelake...
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
What is that and why would we want it?
I can't tell, don't know a lot about xeon. -
Low core count Xeon's are worthless. Even more so without ECC memory, which is needed when doing high precision computing that needs to be flawless. Google is your best friend.
-
You do know there are ECC sodimms you can buy, right?
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
Yeap, but i dont think they are supported, at least not on the P870DM-G. I couldn't find anything saying otherwise. Maybe @Prema would know.
-
I'm not seeing it say non-ecc on the specs. Usually they list that and it is quickly ignored.
