Just be lucky I'm poor! I'd try giving you a run for your money @Papusan!!! I've benched my 4790K @5.1ghz in a zm. Think what I'd do sitting this winter in sub zero temps with one of these machines (if I could find a cpu to handle it, to be fair, my 4790k has seen 6.0ghz before I got it, so I knew it could handle it)...
Edit: noting that @johnksss and @Meaker@Sager would still beat me...

you're a snowman, you don't need a Silicon Lottery CPU. If you just put your fingers on your laptop it will freeze the CPU

I couldn't afford a 980m when I first bought this machine. Had to start with the 970m and upgrade later. I want to upgrade it again, but gotta find out more about the heatsink issue (also whether msi will put out a low watt version of the 1080 without an additional power cable needed)... But $1700 wasn't a bad price...

Been e-mailing my re-seller a lot lately regarding the p870dm3-g. Unfortunately they might not be getting it until the very end of the month which means I might end up waiting longer because I'll more than likely be taking leave from work on or after the 22nd of August, but still, anxiously waiting to hear the trade/upgrade value from them. They never steer me wrong. My machine came out to $3600 when I bought it from them (also bought extra components to get other incentives but they still count it towards the machines overall value). I'm hoping if I trade-in my machine I don't get any less then $3000 to $3200 USD but we'll have to wait and see.
The main guy I talk to and his supervisor will be available tomorrow so I hope I get a great value from them which I don't doubt. Also, I did a bunch of price matching so i can attach them below for those looking for a good or decent deal for the P870DM-G. I'm doing a trade-in so I omitted components I don't need and tried to get the lowest-end in CPU only because I couldn't omit it outright and i already have a 6700K and RAM.

Knowing @Prema it will be amazing as usual. Only question is that it might not be available right this moment.
Not sure about any ship dates though. @Phoenix , did you check with @Ted@HIDevolution about any tentative ship dates?iunlock likes this. -

Do you think they'll release the D2/D3 in a different form factor similar to the P670RS-G? Just curious...

Does this bad boy with dual 1080s require dual power supplies!? WTF total weight must be nuts
-
Tell that to @Mr. Fox and @johnksss xD
What is this "max load"? I want to try and break this 85C "max load" you seem to have. Underestimate not my ability to overload a CPU. Ask @tgipier hehehe
That's "Secure Flash", which means you need digitally signed sBIOSes to be flashed onto the cards. Dell isn't the only one doing this, either.
Secure BOOT however, will now prevent W10 owners from using any custom drivers, killing Windows Open Hardware Support. =D.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
More like 6kgs?

I take it that the D2/D3 design (particularly the display hinge) is more sturdier than the P670RS-G style hinges? Just from the looks of it it seems so...I'm sure you'd have a more detailed input on this perhaps from experience.
-
Yes I know. There are many angry Aw owners who have not yet forgotten Dell's successful way to cripple latest AW18 (powercap - Aka max single 330W PSU). Dell was clever when they managed to destroy their last flagship
And still is not bios, Dell's best feature. All of their bios versions from 2013and forward has been a tremendous disaster. Just look at Echo models

Just ordered the P870DM3-G with 2 x 1080 GTX, UHD-gsync panel, 2 x 16 GB corsair vengeance, 2 x 330W PSU and 6700k from CEG - Germany. I will use my old ssd for the time beeing.
They have stock. Delivery should be here by weeks end
I payed 4107,68 Euro including delivery and discount. I think it´s a fair price.
I will sell my P870DM-G bought 11/2015: Prema bios and vbios, 2 x 980m, 6700k, 4K-gsync panel, IC diamond, 32 GB 2400, additional heat pipes mounted, without ssd or windows. The unit works flawlessly, no high piched sound or coilwine. If someone is interested please pm me and suggest a price.Last edited: Aug 16, 2016 -
Probably won't be upgradeable, again. But cool.
I'll see you next year when you do the same thing.

I'm asking around about GPU upgrade prices, trying to get an idea about 1070/1080 price.. If anyone has any idea, do let me know.. If the 1070 is >700 USD, I might as well spend a bit more and build a desktop lol..

Build a desktop. It won't be cheaper than 980M was.Mr. Fox likes this.
-
Yeah looks like that... Still looking into the desktop option, just wondering if I'll have enough space and where I'm going to keep it lol..Mr. Fox likes this.
-
i'll pay the price for a 1080 if everything fits and works.
-
Eh if you could get a good price for your current model just sell it and get a good desktop or a P750DM2.
-
Seems more likely MXM won't be around by the end of 2017 with Volta on the horizon. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that NVIDIA is moving forward and not backward.Mr. Fox likes this.
-
nVidia killed MXM. MSI and Clevo are doing their own designs, under their own cash. This is why old machines cannot be upgraded easily.
nVidia does not give a bloody crap about consumers, we already know this. But at least this way, AMD won't just come in and shove a 150W RX M480 at us for $500 and say "hey, check power
".
-
Shoot so the 120hz pannel is not GSYNC?
What is the refresh rate of the 4k 60 only I am sure?
How about if we buy the 1080 SLI can we get both fans to run when not using SLI? That would help a ton since the cooling is now setup in a grid. Hell I just have to buy one and find out I guess.Last edited: Aug 16, 2016Johnksss, PrimeTimeAction and bsch3r like this. -
A 150W RX480M might come close to a 1070 and I would pay for that lol
.. I doubt the mobile 1070 is costing anything <700 USD anyways..
-
No, it'll at best hit a 1060. It's between a 970 and a 980 in desktops, give or take (driver dependent, joy)
-
Not a bad price. I will look into it as XMG were much more.
-
Do you like trains? I don't like hype trains lol.

Read through it. The LG philips display is 120Hz BUT! 25-30 ms of actual refresh time.
Read through AUO display information, they are 6bit + dithering.
Yeah... Only the 4K display is actually 8bit. But even then, that one has a similarly bad refresh rate. But it has almost 100% adobeRGB coverage, which is sweet.
I just want to also state that crippled and really bad BIOS or not, cooling seems to be strong with the MSI, they don't reach 100 C on neither GPU nor CPU... Though I really want 6700k in my laptop.. Need to wait for reviews and see if the new cooling is able to cool it off.
Romanian reseller has both dual 1080 P870 and P770 with single 1080, but no single 1080 P870. It's not that I don't want SLI, but more like I can live with just one GPU, where are P870s with one 1080?
Also, I really don't want 2x230W. Either single 330W power brick or 2x330W, nothing less. -
It's in the p870dm2
I asked for a quote for single 1080 on the dm3, it looks like it is not possible for now.

Im thinking on doing the same. But this may well be my last high end laptop. Think in the future might be just easier to get cheaper a bga laptop for work and build a couple pcs for home.
-
Yeah, The 2x 230w setup isn't useful at all. You can't use a single brick if you want. Single 330w can be used if you travel and have single 1080.Georgel likes this.

Total deal-breaker for me! 120Hz and no G-Sync?! And it has a 20ms response time? What the hell is going on.
-
Hid is reporting 5ms on the fhd panel.

Can anyone confirm that the P870DM3 1080P is 6+FRC or true 8 bit?
-
Does anyone know if the mobile 1080 uses high bandwidth sli connection same as the desktop variant hd bridge?
Using high bandwidth connection showed massive gains in some games compared to the standard sli bridge. -

We need to get this officially confirmed.
@Meaker@Sager , @pat@XOTICPC , @Ted@HIDevolution , @EurocomTechspert
can any of you confirm that there is no option to get a 120hz G-Sync screen?
. -
I'll just wait for @HTWingNut's review. Hope he does one. Can't trust salesman.
-
How many months more before we see 1080 mxm for sale?
The DM3 looks okay but cannot have single 1080 for now.
-
Just about to buy from the same place. Where did you read that they have stock?
-
Anyone know which 4K panel is being offered on the p870dm2/3-G and the stock versus max refresh rate? I upgraded my panel on my p870dm using the AUO B173ZAN01.0 but the max refresh is 60Hz and a very slight 64Hz overclock is achievable but extremely unstable (artifacts and flickering).
I want to know if I go with the 4K panel on the P870DM3 will I actually be gaining something my current one can't do. If the new 4K panel is at least 75 to 100Hz I think it may warrant the additional cost and product warranty. Could a reseller or tester help me out if they have knowledge? -
Correct, I checked every resellers config pages and all the DM3's come in 1080 SLI only.
-
The panel options do seem a bit backwards.
The 1080p 120Hz should actually be the upgrade in a way,
...although the 4k panel has GSYNC. I'm assuming the 4k is also ~25ms?
I don't know....a bit goofy.

Well, on the Eurocom site, it is +$1166 to add a second 1080 if you already have one configured. That should give a rough idea, though it seems less than the 980 if I recall. I'd have to believe the 1070 will be more than 700 unfortunately.

much cheaper: http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p870dm3-dual-gtx-1080.html

Earlier in the thread I priced out both the D2 and D3 and the extra 1080 came out to around ~$1,200 so that's a good ball park.
