I'm guessing you're all talking about Asus's(ss) JJ... ?

That's why I don't know. I haven't been actively involved with desktops since the P4 days and hyperthreading was Intel's newest invention. That was back when ATI was kicking NVIDIA in the family jewels before AMD ruined everything for the red team. That was like what... 2005, something like that? I started traveling a lot for work and needed beast laptops to be happy. Got my first 17-inch XPS SLI laptop back when the XPS badge actually meant something truly special, 1080p was new and viewed as extreme hardcore high end rather than ordinary, and then came Alienware laptops with 4870M CF and 5870M CF.Last edited: Aug 20, 2016

Can confirm GT72/GT73/GT83 fans are also 12v for left/right/middle[gt83]? -
I'm looking forward to the possibility of two things:
- Brother @johnksss kicking the teeth out of every BGA fanboy's benchmark scores in such a way that NONE OF THEM can ever come even remotely close to matching them. The value of this demonstration would be to highlight how immoral Intel has become for making crippled notebook trash that can only perform well when extraordinarily drastic measures are taken by abnormally advanced talent to circumvent their gimping nonsense; and,
- Brother @johnksss demonstrating in a compelling way that BGA feces is worthy to be harshly condemned, ridiculed and despised by PC enthusiasts everywhere

I hear ya, doesn't mean you can't **** with fragile egos on both sides! I just want to watch those egos on both sides get ****ed with (cooking popcorn for the show)!!!

It's weekend, so maybe a beer can follow that popcorn
Let's begin
@johnksss can start with a modest 4.4 GHz? Not on 1 core. All 4

That could certainly happen. I try not to let ego get in the way of demonstrating the complete absence of giving a damn about what other people think. The best way to deal with stupidity is to segregate, ostracize and ridicule it. Doing so makes it unpopular to be stupid and that can provide some temporary relief. As far as trying to change wrong opinions goes...

I can't. for some reason this machine was running like a furnace when I first tried turned it on. So i'll need to look into that first. Just unlocking the bios at the moment.Georgel, Papusan, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this.

Dat_1.401v_for_4.2GHz_though. Grade-A chip right there
Yeah, the skylake BGA chips are disgusting. They're all binned REALLY badly. It's like, every single i7 desktop reject chip got shoved onto laptops. I've not seen a single 6820HK crack 4GHz under 1.3v yet. 6700K? @Plur's chip runs 4GHz at 1.04v STABLE. She can do 4.6GHz at what, 1.26v? 4GHz+ at 1.26v on a 6820HK probably wouldn't even boot to BSOD, lol.Ashtrix, Georgel, CaerCadarn and 8 others like this. -

Yeah, the BGA gamer-boy notebooks that can overclock "good enough" (whatever that actually means) seem to generally require more voltage for less of a core overclock, and they often run hotter than they should as a consequence of the poor binning quality and the need for too much voltage.Georgel, bloodhawk, temp00876 and 1 other person like this.

I think my stance is rather well-known by now. Skylake chips no longer have a power limit; it's notebook-based now. This is the main issue in terms of allowing someone to buy one.
But if somebody cares about and/or needs CPU power, a stock 6700K is basically better than most laptops would even allow a 6820HK to run. So I STILL end up telling people if they care about CPU power to get one.
And funnily enough, I now have a VERY good excuse: 6700HQ and stock 6820HK cannot feed a 1070 well, and definitely not at 120Hz like those MSI models are doing. ESPECIALLY not 1070 SLI. Lol. No.
See where I came about with my "Clevo is the least evil to choose" thing? They're the only machines that can actually feed the new gen of GPUs properly, especially since high refresh screens are back.
Intel still has a lot to do to actually make good stuff for mobile. But at least in a decent laptop, the chips can actually do some heavy work unlike Haswell/broadwell BGA. Just kind of badly.Georgel, CaerCadarn and ajc9988 like this. -

It is locked with XTU and ThrottleStop as well, or only in the BIOS?hmscott likes this.

HA. That's all the chips by default. As I said, I've NEVER seen 4GHz+ without being over 1.3v. And they don't even have the beefy cooling systems like the ZM/DM models do for the CPUs, so there's no way that's being handled.
As for voltage control, you may have to use the ASUS suite program. ASUS do officially "support" overclocking (5% on GPU guys! 5%!) but you know ASUS. You do it their way or no way =D. If you manage to unlock it via Throttlestop or XTU that'd be real nice to see/hear.
I know the BIOS is empty for them. But I think you need to use the ASUS program.
Why? Most of them have 6700HQs. They can't even adjust the multipliers
it's turbo on or turbo off only on those
(I'm mean tonight. Mostly towards ASUS.) -
There was a way to unlock it using the ME toolset on the earlier models, dont know if it still works.ajc9988 likes this.

the msi all come with 6820HK for GT73 and GT83, the 1080 GT83 has 6920HQ, odd choice consider that it's a downgrade?
I forgot to mention that the asus me and johnksss is testing right now come with 230w power supply, not sure where to source a 330w with an asus tip
GTX 1070 = 150w tdp on desktop
6820HK = stock 45w, can do 70w if overvolt heavy
gotta keep the cpu not too high volt I guess? -
It is locked with them all, but this bios is seriously in depth, but it does have our favorite settings though.

The GT72VR comes with single 1070 and 6700HQ, though. I've seen other 6700HQ/1070 pairings. But maybe yeah you're right with the GT73/GT83.
The GT83's 6920HQ is probably because it cannot OC beyond 4GHz and thus that'll inadvertently prevent it from drawing "too much power".TomJGX likes this. -

Didnt check the Spoiler , did you ?
Either ways, im confused, are none of the settings sticking? Or just certain ones? Also were you able to unlock advanced chip set control ?
This has some interesting info :
Skip the initial stuff and jump to the ME business. -
Ones I want to stick are bclk. but first i have to get a missing section showing in the bios that has all the watts tables.
And he wasn't about to unlock anything with the cpu. The best he could hope for is bclkajc9988 likes this. -

One thing I was worried about were extra loud fans. One thing I liked about the AW18 was it was near quiet when gaming and whisper quiet for casual use. Only time it got loud was under heavy load. Even the 870DM was pretty quiet when gaming or general usage.

Cannot find the model on ADDA website, so it seems its a scpecial build for Clevo.
According to the nomenclature ADDA usually uses the name implies that said fan is 82mm wide and 19mm thik.
Regarding the "better loud and cool fraction": the noise these fans generate are a new DIMENSION. My wife can hear it through closed doors and can´t sleep because of the noise. For gaming I would need to use closed headphones with noise cancellation. Aorus X7 is a silent machine compared to it. WTF did Clevo have in mind by using these fans.
At the moment I try to figure out if one or all fans are defect, they can´t be serious with this.
The problem: The rotor itself generates a lot of whining noise, I guess the name "Hyprobearing" should imply its hydro-bearing while in fact its cheapo ball-bearing. The term "Hyprobearing" alone makes me very suspicious.
Don´t get me wrong, its a very good notebook, but we have to find a way to exchange the fans. Otherwise its a dealbreaker for me.Last edited: Aug 20, 2016electrosoft, iunlock and steberg like this. -
I think that clevo technicians are not so stupid for the second time.. If they put this kind of fans means that are necessary, so i don't think that msi fans cool better than thisPapusan, ajc9988 and PrimeTimeAction like this.

After reading the text I still can´t say what bearing type the fan is or if it´s brushless for example. I find this description also very suspicious...Last edited: Aug 20, 2016

o.k., after doing some testing I can say its the fan in the middle producing by far the highest noise (some sort of rotor-whining).
I will contact CEG for a replacement fan. The other 2 fans I would say produce also a high amount of rotor-noise but way less than the one in the middle.
