Looks like some ....... @ 3DMark thought it would be a good idea to add the Mobile Pascal 1080 GPU HWID into the Desktop cards category?
Get used to sit in the back seats unless they correct their error ( @Mr. Fox )and call it "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (Notebook)" like they did for the mobile 980...
At least the g-sync model is still showing unknown...Last edited: Aug 26, 2016 -
Looks like BGA models get the last laugh! They can filter by 6820HK instead of 6700K. That was MSI's plan all along.Papusan, jaybee83, ajc9988 and 1 other person like this.

btw. which part of the tab did you break ?

Question: after adding your hardware, did you ever try testing the cmos by pulling the cmos battery and the other battery? I'm working on the assumption you did the screen right. I've had hardware issues with a multi boot beep (look at the power light for the number of flashes for the hardware error) and the screen never come on. I've had to reset it between cpu switched sometimes as well. Just reset that and try to boot...

Just a tip for those who do not read the manual you can reset the oc settings by holding fn + d during boot .
-
Is it the same for the older models?
Never bothered with the manual
-
It resets the entire BIOS to defaults not only OC settings. Original Phoenix needs an EC update for the short-cut, which equals a CMOS reset.

Don't do it man, the wait for G-Sync will be worth it. I almost caved in for the non-G-Sync 120hz screen because I was being impatient. And according to some of the posts I quote below, it sounds like Eurocom might be receiving their G-Sync panels soon, so hopefully other resellers will soon too.
Agreed. After experiencing faster refresh rates, 60hz just isn't good enough anymore.
Yes, there is no going back.
I noticed this on Eurocom's website too. I just checked and they now have 3 screen option: 1080p, 1080p w/120hz, and 4k. Then there is the separate section to add G-Sync for $96. I think they are closed for the day but I'll try contacting them tomorrow if someone doesn't confirm before then.
Wow, I hope this is true and they are correct. I might call tomorrow anyways just to confirm. Then the question will be, how long before HIDEvolution gets the G-Sync panels? I'm a little tempted to go with Eurocom since I want this laptop ASAP, but I would rather hold out for HIDEvolution for the Prema BIOS/vBIOS. I could be wrong but I remember reading a while back that HIDEvolution gets their stock from Eurocom, so hopefully soon...
Those are some nice scores! I was hoping to get this or the 960 Pro, but I don't think HIDEvolution would be able to source a SM961 and the 960 Pro isn't out yet.farris, Meaker@Sager, pathfindercod and 1 other person like this. -
Get in Line!! The SM961 is on a very long back order ATM!

@Meaker@Sager
What's the firmware revision on your SM961? -
Which wireless network card do you guys suggest? The Killer 153 AC card or the Intel 8260 AC card? The Killer brand has had poor reviews, that includes dropping of networks and throttling. Users of either, can you comment?

I've never had any issues with the 1535 in my 870 or GT80 after installing proper drivers.Rage Set likes this.

I didn't break the tab itself, I wasn't quite clear. I broke the black (you don't see it in your pic) plastic handle that they provide to help one pull the connector put. It is black plastic (almost like tape).
Hopefully it is non impacting...it seems like it would be.

I was very quick and got it as it came in stock. A couple of hours later it was out and the price went up.jclausius likes this. -
Ahh that thing. I wouldn't worry about it then. Just take it out again and re-plug it in properly.
And while you are at it, double check all the ribbon cable connections that needed to be taken out as well as the GPU power cables.ajc9988 likes this. -
Thank you for your answer. I may choose the 8760 since it supports Bluetooth 4.2. I could buy the Killer AC card later on if the Intel 8760 doesn't prove to be good enough for my needs.

That's good to know. Hopefully the other resellers aren't too far behind...I'm looking at you HIDevolution.

If you install the bare Killer drivers (not the driver suite) then Killer will work better from what I know. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, or find it too much of a hassle if you ever need to reinstall/redo drivers, then you should get the intel card and if you experience any issues, run WLAN optimizer and both "disable background scan" and "enable streaming mode".Rage Set likes this.

Update your GPU-Z!
Spoke to @W1zzard yesterday and as of now ASIC reading is not yet supported and won't be anytime soon...
Old GPU-Z will just give you some funky readings as it wrongly uses Maxwell code...Last edited: Aug 25, 2016 -

Someone really needs to contact Futuremark to correctly identify Mobile Pascal HWID as 1080 (Notebook) and not merge it with the Desktop cards. They did the same for 980 (Notebook) and gave it a category on its own.

What are you temps like ?

You sure its not intentionally since NVIDIA itself is classifying these as desktop cards? Cuz that would be rather stupid.

Well who might that have been? lol

@Meaker@Sager Did you have any say so over this stock bios?Last edited: Aug 25, 2016 -

I do need a miniDP to DP cable, I'll see if they have one at the festival. -
Im at work as well. Right now im out picking up parts.
I got that cable. Here, you can use mine. Lol
Edit: Futuremark's reply:
We currently cannot do this. The PCIE Device ID of the notebook 1080 is identical to the desktop model. We're looking into solutions for this, but I don't know how/when we can fix this. This is partially NVIDIAs fault for releasing the notebook versions with identical hardware IDs.Last edited: Aug 26, 2016 -

Got the same reply from FM. I asked them to go to this site:
http://pciids.sourceforge.net/v2.2/pci.ids
It contained the GP104Ms PCIE device id except for 1BA0 which Prema provided. -

One more reason to get g-sync model cards.
BUT, is '1BA0' really also the desktop 1080 ID?
EDIT:
I can only see '1B80' for the desktop card...it may have been an excuse to justify their error.
These are the current 3 NOTEBOOK Pascal Models in their regular as well as g-sync flavor:
1BA0 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 ( Notebook)
1BE0 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 ( Notebook) g-sync
1BA1 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 ( Notebook)
1BE1 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 ( Notebook) g-sync
1C20 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ( Notebook)
1C60 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ( Notebook) g-sync
These are the current 3+1 DESKTOP Pascal Models:
1B80 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080
1B81 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
1C03 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
1C02 : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
Back then I saw an alternative Notebook 1060 3GB given as an option by NVIDIA, not sure if any ODM has opted for it and is actually using it in their systems...right now Clevo only has 6GB models.
EDIT 2:
Futuremark just fixed them:

Cant really blame them. If they go by GPU HW ID then they will mistake the egpu setups as desktops and if they go by CPU HW ID, they will mistake 6700K notebooks as desktops.
In addition, there are some mini desktop systems that use MXM GPUs.hmscott likes this. -
They where thinking too complicated. All it needs is the GPU ID to sort them.
Same GPUs have to be benched against each other.
Doesn't really matter where they are used in. NVIDIA rarely gives two cards the same ID.
If they want to give eGPUs it's own section then yeah that's a real challenge unless they use motherboard ID, GPU ID and check for other GPUs present as well as constantly keep all that data up-to-date.
Maybe they have to simply add an option to sort by 'GPU-' or 'overall' -score or have an 'prefer CPU score / ' prefer GPU score' sorting option for results in order to make CPU/GPU combinations irrelevant for leader boards where now an awesome GPU has no chance against a good CPU in order to hit the Top10.Last edited: Aug 26, 2016 -
