Whoa, I wonder how noisy that is! This scares me about owning something as noisy as a car engine while playing or working :D

On the other hand, I think I can rely on the fact that my workflow doesn't push both GPU and CPU that much, not even gaming at 4K shouldn't push either component as much.

yeah, I saw that too. A bad sensor or reading? If not, and someone could set the fans for the GPU to ~2,000,000 RPM, I wonder if the system can double as a small hovercraft! :)

Come on now, it's nice having one!

We can finally have hovering laptops and play anywhere, and while walking and things. We can even have out laptops hover while we're in bed, then program them to put themselves on the desk after we're finished.

All with 2 hours of battery :D

(I'm seriously wondering what's up with those numbers though)

Only the CPU fan can reach 2M RPM. GPU fans are limited to 4.2k. If I swap it with the middle GPU fan maybe it'll be stable enough for flight.

Question for those that have the 4k panel DM3. How is the scaling on Win10? Whenever I hook up my desktop to my 4K TV, some apps look horrible.

@farris The alternative is a Turdbook, with silent fans and scorching hot hardware(Throttle Monster). There will definitely be launched laptop models with single 1080 graphics and wimpy cooling. The choice is yours!! Silent fans with bad cooling or top cooling with top performance

The 1070 and 1080 will have different heatsinks. The 1070 is going to be cooled like the 980M was so temperatures are going to be similar to that, the 1080 will be cooled like the old 980 so expect similar performance to that (with pascal running warmer on average).

I understand that, but I'm also interested in knowing the thermal performance of the 870DM2 with the 1080 installed, or even if i buy a DM3 and sell off one of the 1080s. I want a new big rig, with all the extras, but only a single 1080 and the need for a single 330w, that also stays cool.

Guess i have to wait until someone orders and benches them here. :)

The last time I had thought out loud about that logic of buying a SLI and selling one, it raised a lot of eye brows, but now with the temp issues it's becoming, not so much of a bad idea after all.

I too am wanting a single 1080 with one PSU and not two bricks.

So, here is what you can get away with....

Y ou can not run two cards without 2 powersupplys. The system wont even play a game. With two cards 2 psu's are mandatory. What happens is the laptop with disable the psu's. Meaning it will turn them off and force you on battery. You will need to unplug the power to them and re plug them back up to get them to turn back on.

Seems I needed to reboot and everything is fine. Very weird though.

You can run 1 psu with one card and play perfectly fine. No issues. Fallout 4 runs at 120 to 200 frames on single gpu with everything maxed out literally. 72C with fans on auto.
Here is me playing for 15 minutes and iding for about 5 minutes...

I'll test Shadow of Mordor and metro 2033 in a little bit.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have not taken the plastic cover off the screen either

Edit: Gaming on battery is not going to work either. because you can't lower the clocks low enough to get the frames to even out. Although you can use this -200 on core to drop temps further and still have an enjoyable playing experience.

Also, Fan noise is well with in reason here. No where near the jet engine sound. You can 't really hear them over the volume of the game. Unless you are trying to hear them or you are in a room with great acoustics. Now turn the game off, yes you can noticeable hear them. Not really considered annoying since most will be yelling at the screen annoying others around anyway. :)

    Edit:
    Same case scenario...

I thought the 2 x PSU was mandatory for the dual cards but eurocom are supplying with a single 330w?? Can't believe they would not have tested it, especially as it comes with a prema bios?

I am now questioning if this machine is for me though (noise and heat?).

If I'm gonna go dual PSU's then I might as well go the whole hog and be sure of quiet and cool operation: https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/GX800VH/ rumored to be 18"...

the gx700 was anything from quite, it had 2 fans inside the laptop that ramps up, and 2 more fans on the radiators. It is also incredibly hard to get yourself a gx800 unless you have connections

Thanks, they are supposed to have re-designed the cooler for quieter operation but I'd have to hear from some reviews before I cough up that much cash  I guess that supply might be an issue but I'm in no rush :D.

You just gotta call around, and keep calling, follow leads to the suppliers that are importing them. And, it might not even be imported yet.

I'd start with the last importers of the GX700 and G700 (air-cooled version), I recall https://www.bhphotovideo.com/ had them...

Yup, they still have it, in stock :)

I dont think a single HDMI port is capable of doing anything over 60hz @ 4k.
From what i have seen you need 2 x HDMI to be able to do 4k @ anything over 60Hz.
