    GF MSI GT83VR.

Johnksss beat highest SLI MSI Firestrike score with single Clevo card in overall score.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/1EbBt

    EDIT:
There is one MSI score higher than the single Clevo score.

The K also lacks the following standard features that are included at no extra charge with all BGA Core i7 processors:
    - impotence and sterility
    - muscular dystrophy

Oh, you mean click-and-go junior high school gaming just like an Alienware Alpha, XBOX or PlayStation? Only thousands of dollars more expensive for a BGA turdbook?
Gee, that sounds like a real barrel of monkeys.

So... Pretty sure he was saying you can ignore those features, install the cpu, and game like normal on an LGA socket but... I guess you always need to take a shot...

This is like almost the only thread where you can't say that, nothing is BGA lol.

Yeah, those features are pretty obscure and irrelevant for most folks. I'm sure somebody, somewhere, needs them for something.

It's not really a shot as much as a statement of fact. BGA gaming notebooks are mostly a click-and-go prospect due to their functional limitations. Anyone that buys one expecting more than a cookie-cutter experience is in for a rude awakening. Kind of reminds me of a person buying a Hyundai Veloster based on how it looks with an expectation that it will somehow magically turn out to be something special.

And, those notebooks are a whole lot more expensive than a console... doesn't make much sense financially if 99% of what a gamer-boy intends to do with it is play games at home.

I probably won't either. I'd want that on water, at the very least. I think spending $5,000 on a notebook is way too much money for too little... especially if your chances of upgrading it over several generations of GPUs is slim to none. Expensive notebooks that cannot be upgraded is a pretty foolish buying decision. Better to get something extra cheap and just throw it away or give it to charity for a tax write-off when you get bored with it.

These are the original ones that I saw on the top Firestrike scores of GTX 1080(notebook) that I saw that amazed me. Because a single Clevo 1080 with 6700k was beating two MSI 1080's with 6920hq (GT83VR) in overall score.

    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10073016

    http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10053831

EDIT: I understand that it is because of the 6700k giving a higher physics score, but it still makes me happy to see a BGA piece of trash that MSI claims to be "top of the line" lose to a Clevo with one its gpu's turned off .

They don't support manual configuration because they lack the basic skill and intelligence, and because they don't care about what their customers want. They also assume that their customers are as stupid as they are.

Someone is bound to say it is unfair to compare those machines. It's probably equally unfair to compare a Double Whopper with Cheese meal with a McDonald's cheeseburger Happy Meal, but I don't see a reason not to. I think about which one is more satisfying and the Whopper wins every time.

You can compare scores side-by-side like this: http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/10073016/fs/10053831

There is no such thing as unfair. It is what it is. As long as a person knows what they are getting (or not getting) before spending money, there is also no room for excuses.

Maybe, but that depends on what constitutes "good enough" and how much you're willing to spend. People that are merely shooting for cheap thrills at 30 to 60 FPS can get plenty of that with a console for about 60 to 75% less money. If spending an extra $1500 for versatility or to be part of a special clique is important, a console certainly won't be good enough.

The physics scores mean little to nothing in gaming, as long as you have 4 cores 3.5ghz + you should be able to feed the GPU's just fine, anything more is gravy over the boat.

Check it out, look at the Graphics scores., that's what matters.
    http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/10073016/fs/10053831/fs/5708173

The Clevo single 1080 Graphics score of 24,552 is just above my best score for Graphics of 21,345 (980m SLI), which is much lower than the highest MSI 980m SLI score btw, I didn't flash another vbios, my scores are with the stock BIOS/vbios.

The MSI 1080 SLI got 34,747 which is a bit low; they are just getting to know their new laptop. :)

Uh-huh... Say's you... but, guess what. It might not actually be all that matters. Honestly, that sounds more like an excuse than a real answer. You can bet your paycheck that it's not the only thing that matters to the winners. People that don't care about benchmarks probably shouldn't waste their time or clutter up the 3DMark database by running them. As a side benefit, they won't have to make any excuses for their lameness.

Yup, I do have other interests. But, I when I do bench I want excellent scores that are admirable rather than pathetic. Otherwise, there is no joy in benching.

Considering that a GT83VR costs more than a P870DM3 that gets 3DMark scores like one with SLI disabled, perhaps excuses are in order.

The part that got conveniently overlooked was @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER score with SLI enabled. If the graphics score is the only thing that matters (which we know is not true) then what is the lame excuse when looking at this view? And, why would someone pay more for an MSI turdbook only to get a 38% lower graphics score for 1080 SLI?

Doesn't it just come down to if the cpu is a bottleneck? It would be a problem on like 1080p 144hz, but I doubt it would be an issue at 4K, the graphics score would be more relevant there. Stop saying all that garbage. Don't waste time running 3DMark if you aren't good enough? Does that include yourself with your "pitiful" 980m? For God sake let people do what the hell they want. Maybe they just wanna make sure their machine is performing as it should, not trying to show off their firestrike to the internet. It's a lot of fun talking with you when I own both BGA and LGA notebooks lol. They both have their place, and do well in it. Maybe you should add Clevo to your sig full of filth since the N series and P6XX series are BGA.

Oh, I agree... BGA Clevos are filth like everything else. I did not include Clevo because they are the only company that hasn't sold their soul to the turdbook god. But, they do offer turdbooks to those that want them. If MSI offered something good, then they could be taken off of my garbage list. Remember, I am brand agnostic. I value results and brand is irrelevant. If MSI, or even Alienware or Acer, offered something better I would buy one. But, sadly they do not.

@Galm17 - please have another look at what I said. You're not quoting me accurately. I was speaking to lame excuses, like the graphics score is all that matters, and here is what I said...

How is it OK for a 1080 SLI machine that costs more to perform like one with only one 1080? People that care about benchmarks care about all aspects of the score and don't make excuses for crippled hardware. The lack of a respectable CPU wins MSI the "King of Turdbooks" crown.

Yeah, I saw that. It looks pretty unimpressive overall. Plus, it appears that it doesn't support 1080 and is only single GPU. That doesn't really interest me. I also question whether the cooling system on that generic whitebook is capable of handling a heavily overclocked 6700K.

Well, the MSi comes with OS and preloaded OEM RAM/SSD, so it's more expensive. And W10 Home lol...

But yea, that score really shows how much quality you can get for 4K+ laptop. Certainly MSi is not one of them :(

Only OEM model, MSi doesn't sell this to public (yet).

Awfully quiet they are about the superior product...

When MSI offers a 1080 SLI Titan with socketed desktop K CPU then we might have something special to talk about. Until then, they're just peddling expensive turdbooks like most of their competitors.

The only mainstream vendor selling that obscure MSI model is Eurocom and, unfortunately, the most GPU it seems capable of handling is one 1070. And, it looks like one of the lower TDP 1070 models on top of that. I'm not saying it is a terrible product. Truth be told, it's probably pretty nice for an inexpensive (sub-$2000) gaming notebook and likely even better than my P750ZM. But, it's not something that floats my boat. I'm not sure how well it would cope with a 6700K running at 4.7 to 4.9GHz. I'd have to test one to find out, but I'd never dream of spending my own money to find out how good it is, or isn't.

We don't even know the TDP of the 1070 in the MSi barebone, it might likely just be 180w like the Clevo units.

What concerns me is that the VRM is cooled by one of the CPU heatpipe.

Clevo can't do much better at 15". Maybe cpu cooling but still just a 1070... No pleasing you I guess.

It's not up to snuff for me. But, as I said...
My P750ZM isn't fantastic either. It's OK, but leaves a lot to be desired, in part due to its size. To be clear, I think there is a good chance that cheap little MSI whitebook with a 6700K and 1070 could easily replace my P750ZM. But, I wouldn't spend the money on it because that's not particularly important to me. The P750ZM is intended to be my expendable and disposable BGA-killing option.

Winning is winning, regardless of what class one is competing in. I overclock the crap out of whatever I can and enjoy doing that, but I'd be very disappointed if the P750ZM (or the approximate equivalent) would end up being what I would have to settle for as my main beast machine.

I doubt it would. Maybe an MSI 1060 would fit. But, even if it could I probably would not do it unless I had to replace the 980M in it now due to an unexpected hardware failure.

Not that I wouldn't like it better with a more powerful GPU than my golden 980M sample... of course I would. But, spending more money on it would defeat one of the reasons that I have it.

I'm not an expert like you guys, but allow me to say something from another point of view.

In fact, I like all the technologies, I think all of them covering different segment of users, but I always respect the strongest.

But the question that comes to my mind "The strongest "Why does not mean beauty" at the same time?" Clevo remains for a long period of time keeps the same design, it is a practical design in fact, but in my opinion it is not beautiful with low quality keyboard with a lot of plastic.

What if the company changed little in design to be more beautiful and can accommodate a larger number of cooling fans and copper tubing to give the device more space to run cooler and give more flexibility to the overclockers and gamers to push it to the maximum limits, or even considering a water cooling, why not?

To be more positive, I suggest creating a new thread to collect from our seniors consultants and our respected members their expectations and creative thoughts, it will be like a pool of resources for the technology owners to learn from us what exactly we need to have in our laptops.
I think we have many members we can call them "Innovators" some of them are engineers, some are designers, some are overclockers or gamers, and some are just a users wants to enjoy.

Any relation in the business world depend on interests, lets try to find out how to balance between the interests of the technology owners, distributors, sellers and users, to give each party his interest with no conflict, so we all will be happy at the end. And the 1st step for that always begin with respecting each others, and try to send our messages with the nice way to the other parties, so they can listen and consider our findings.

I also propose the establishment of specialized Syndicate " Not the one in the Tom Cruise movie :)" giving permits and certificates of quality on computers and laptop technologies, the buyers can take advantage of it and be trusted in this Syndicate that is supposed to serve as quality control and the development of standards required for them.

Maybe this is just an idea now, but no one knows, the right person may come to adopt the idea and executed.

    BR,

60 fps ultra 1080p is only in the domain of the PC, even the new PS4 "PRO" wont come close to a 1070.

True. You're absolutely correct. But, I also wouldn't expect it to be close based on the PS4's price tag either. The gamers that are willing to settle for that will also argue indefinitely that the human eye cannot see more than 30 FPS. Those folks are their target market. They obviously enjoy playing their games with lower frame rates and gimped graphics settings, and for $400 versus $2000 at entry level that is somewhat understandable. Consoles are a compelling alternative to expensive BGA turdbooks based on price alone. The choice to buy either one requires a great deal of compromise, but the thrift aspect of the decision to go with a console versus a turdbook is not very difficult to understand.

There you go. And, that's the rationale that most of them use for saying anything more than 30 FPS doesn't matter.

But pcmr has the luxury of 120/144fps (at least until monitor tech changes)
