I understand how you feel about some of this. It was a massive disappointment that 1080 SLI won't fit in the P870DM-G. I'm still not past that issue and if even if I forgive it I probably will never forget it.

Have we seen any evidence yet that Kaby Lake desktop CPUs are actually going to be an upgrade? I haven't been searching for anything since it's not relevant yet, but what little I have seen for mobile BGA filth seems like nothing worth writing home about. I know that some folks really don't like the keyboards. I've never found anything to complain about myself, but I'm not hard to please with keyboards.

I won't know until I have one in my own hands, but from what little I have seen and heard it seems like the cooling "problem" is most likely largely due to lack of care in assembly, including using cheap thermal pads that are not the correct thickness. P870DM3 cooling system should be competent with proper assembly and care, but I cannot say as much for some of the other Pascal notebook that are starting to surface. @Meaker and @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER seem to have the thermals under control with their beasts now.

It seems most of the other Pascal machines have worse thermal management issues. I am not expecting 1070 or 1080 to be a good option for thin and light notebook owners unless the OEMs gimp the crap of out of them, in which case they'll become even more of a "jokebook" after being castrated to run cooler.

GOW 4 and its "Insane" options are going to bring a LOT of computers to their knees. According to the developer, it will run best with 1080 SLI but even SLI won't allow you to use Insane options. I've used Metro Redux as my togo benchmark for gaming, I think this will be my next benchmark game.

Sorry for the OT. I picked it up through the xbox play anywhere. If it's gonna look like that I would be more than happy to play it anywhere. Lol

I wonder what features it will share ie: local multiplayer

Will this be usable with the serial of the PC, serial of the GPU itself or?...

On Nvidia page, there were a few big shops mentioned as partners, but no clevo dealers yet. Curious on how we can get this sweet offer!

Totally feeling your concern. More and more people are making 1080 laptops that are under a certain thickness... Not saying that it's bad but really... if gimping it until it performs under an 1060 or if it throttles and melts the laptop, that reduced thickness won't be worth very much.

Can anyone explain to me what's the dead with reduced thickness? I mean... why. Why do they want to make them thinner? for phones it would kinda make sense, but for laptops, especially large gaming laptops, it's pretty pointless to make it thin since it's going to stay on a desk all day long and I'm yet to see anyone open a 17" in public to do anything.

They could focus on so many more things, yet they try to make them thin. And to make things worse, it feels like it's became a race on who makes the first 1mm thickness laptop

Soon Brother @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER will gain the power of frying BGA and other hardware only by looking or thinking about them! :D

A wild thought entered my mind. What if they would start a race on who makes the first Xeon + 3way SLI laptop?

you made the best choice by going with HID and Mr. Donald.

You will get the Prema BIOS/VBIOS for free and covered under warranty, in addition to having options no other system builder offers like factory delidded CPUs, Silicon Lottery CPUs, fastest RAM options, and most diverse HDD/SSD options.

good luck and let us know how it goes.

I suggest you create a thread about your order in the

Resistors? Nope, three in total with sense terminals.

They are even marked on the pcb as SR1, SR2 and SR3.

    Playing with these is dangerous.

Due to the 4K panels being out of stock, my order with PC Specialist (UK) was delayed by almost two weeks. I had to change the order to a g-sync 1080p panel for it to progress, and it did quite quickly.

I am pleased to say that it arrived yesterday, and to my surprise -- despite what their online and phone support staff stating that there is no dual PSU converter box and that it isn't necessary with the system -- ordering the system with two power supplies actually resulted in the dual power converter being included in the system accessories, which makes things going forward a hell of a lot easier. The 1080p panel also ended up being a 75Hz panel as opposed to the 60Hz that was being advertised on the website. If there is the possibility of a screen upgrade in the future, I can get an upgrade through PC Specialist for the actual price difference between the two panels and a nominal labour cost.

Now, it's a matter of putting this new behemoth to use while phasing out my reliance on the Alienware 18. Feels strange, but necessary.

I haven't seen any benefit with unified HS design. From any laptops or brands. Never!! I will almost call it worthless vs own single heatsink for cpu and gpu. The unified HS design is more made for thinner laptops with limited internal space. See the new Awbook's!! Worse fit and no advantage in benching!! For me useless. And you must rely on the heatsink lottery. And all know Clevo's Qc regarding heatsink

Thinner laptops need to compensate their more and more thinness with better cooling. This is the wrong way doing it(shrink the laptop design). Laptops have already problem with the cooling!! See Applebook's and Gigabook's!! Thicker laptops can have a more massive cooling... See 870DM2/3. This model have now increased thickness vs first model. Why do you think Clevo increased the thickness? Because of the design? :D

Well, maybe not. I am dual booting W10 so DX12 is doable, but @octiceps said it is a Windows Store crapxclusive. I don't let that filth on my systems. I've got no traces of Windows Store, Apps, Cortana, telemetry, biometrics, etc. I exorcised all of those demonic components at the W10 WIM file level prior to installation and I don't think that I will be letting them back in. I'd still like to get the key for it in case they pull a Quantum Break move, which would be the right thing for them to do.

There is not a split design that can hold a candle to the thermals this beast can cope with.

Also I applied the power mod and yes it works.

I did not mean specifically 870DM3. More this unified HS design on P775DM2/3-G.
How do you think the processor cooling for P870DM3 would work with fully integrated cpu cooling with gpu's? Swapped this thermal pad(pairing between GPU and CPU) on heatsink with a whole unified heatsink? Most likely a worse cpu cooling!

Yeah, I know what you mean. It was weird transitioning from my much larger Alienware 18 to the 17 inch P870. Biggest change was the keyboard. While I don't hate the keyboard as much as Phoenix, it did take some time to get used to it. The size of the screen not so much. But I got over it. Does take some time though. I still have my 18 lying around in my office.

I can confirm that XTU messes with Automatic fan table permanently, tho not with custom fan profile which i'm using rn.
Reinstalling Clevo CC with XTU installed and setting fan to custom after rebooting works.

CMOS reset without main battery installed did not fix it, even running linux as main os.

Would it be possible to dump the EC from a working system and flash it on the defective units?

    My clevo rebrand is Sager.

So far i'm very disappointed by Clevo/Sager/whatever not highlighting this issue as it affects the usuability of the laptop, e.g running other OS or simply not installing Clevo CC. P150SM days were much better :p i think this will be the last one...

My p870dm3 will be exchanged with something other than Clevo.
I guess the "corporate" bios/ec game has ruined it all, and Clevo doesnt know how to design their systems either.

    This is a big statement.
We have to be fair and give things the right size. I agree with you that they have problems and they must work hard to fix it. But we have to deal with the situation with a professional way, and give them sometime to fix all issues. With all respect for the Big Name Clevo. If they didn't fix their problems and respects their customers, then we can judge clearly.

Welp, I agree, tho I think its been a while for them to release a critical fix, just because it boots doesn't mean its working, just because the workaround kinda works (now it doesnt) doesn't mean its not fair to rant about it. At this point I can't run any game or demanding software on the cpu, and have no ETA for the fix (wait for next month? hell no), since i paid some big $$$ on it, I would rather replace it with something that is more reliable and no weird critical mistakes.
P870dm3 users are few around (coming from sager or pure clevo) tho its not fair to underestimate the issue aswell :)

Edit: also I will add that it has been like that since they began, dumb EC, fan profile issues, heatsink and low quality noisey ADDA fans, I remember having to choose between two ECs with the p150sm and w230 power management, control center has been buggy since forever aswell lol. Maybe you're new... Prema bios/ec mods and forums were the crucial survival mods to make them perform correctly atleast when compared to other brands (I know other sucks sometimes, tho let's not forget design fault is different from support fault)

So far the best workaround on the Sager/Clevo/? variant for low speed fan issue:

1)Only clevo CC has to be installed, set CPU OC, then Services>Intel XTU> Disable or set manual
    2)Power off.
4)power through battery then plug in ac
5)never enter the bios as it messes OC only if xtu is uninstalled on windows
    6)choose custom fan profile.

    (Order is important)

Again reinstall windows doesn't solve it, in case it no longer works u actually have to make sure xtu is disabled in services and most importantly reset CMOS, not reformat :p

@GTVEVO fan running low, around 2k, gpu 90c cpu 98c, except fn+1 which is unacceptable in noise generation (brings gpu down to 67c and cpu 72c so no its not heatsink/TIM), except when doing benches maybe or playing in desert. Above workaround brought gpu to 77c and cpu 82c ([email protected]@1.31vcore) tho the fix isnt persistent around reboots, Ill just keep the system 24/7.

A couple questions if someone could help me out:

1.) Can you purchase the P870DM2 with the new 3K screen option? I do not see it anywhere except on the DM3
2.) Are there any cooling issues with the 1080 assuming no or very mild OC?
3.) How loud are the fans under normal gaming use or does it require turbo mode on the fans to keep it cool?

    Thanks for the help.

Yes with CLU, I use CB for Cpu stressing and aida64 without cache/fpu as its unrealistic for my usage.

Is it possible we might start seeing a drop in prices from sager? A p870dm3 at xoticpc is around $.2.7k for starting price when last week was about almost $1k up 0.0

If you don't mind my asking, two questions:
    1. Did you buy from a @Prema partner?
If so, the Prema BIOS will eliminate any need for XTU
    2. Why are you using XTU?
With the Clevo CPU OC utility and ThrottleStop, there should be no need for it even with the stock BIOS. Because of the fan control glitches I consider using it a bad option, personally... just curious if you have found a reason to want it or need it considering the other options available.
