What made you decide to stick with 4K over the QHD 120hz display?

I'm still on the fence whether I want to stay with the 4K panel or try out the new QHD panel.

Yeah the wait is killing me. They should be dropping any day soon. Hence why I got all excited. It will be nice to go 1440p, if anything for a change since I've had 1080p panels for the last 3 systems I've owned. I went single 1080 but upgraded the Heatsink to the legit DM3 Vapor Chamber... just in case I feel greedy down the road.

    Cmon cmon cmon panels!

Mostly the timeframe. My work has me away from home a lot and I will be leaving soon to go overseas for the next 9 months or so. I'll have an FPO address when I leave, but every time I have things shipped to an FPO they get beat up, so I figured I'd just get it with 4K so I can have it shipped to me while I'm in the states. If I want to change out the screen I can do that next time I'm home.

Also, I have a 4K screen at home and I love editing my pictures on it, and M$ scaling at 200% isn't unbearable with the programs I use. Finally due to my work I am away from unsecured internet a lot so I mostly play single player RPG games which look great on my home screen. So I figured I might like the 4K screen on my laptop anyway.

You're going to love photo editing on the 4K. The colors are without a doubt the best I've seen on a laptop and even better than a lot of desktop panels.

News about Kaby Lake Processor http://wccftech.com/intel-core-i7-7700k-benchmarks/!

From the article it said that aroud 40% increase in performance in single thread and 20% increased in multi core thread comapre to current 6700K. This combine with SLI gtx 1080 inside DM3 would be amazing!

I would be surprised if there is even any clock for clock benefit of Kaby Lake over Skylake, but I hope for lower default voltage at any given clock to see them run cooler with more OC headroom.

I was told a single 1080 doesn't get the dual exhaust T shaped heat sink like the 980 did. It gets the same single exhaust HS the 1070 gets.

I wonder if it's vendor specific? I was told that from Hidevolution what I mentioned in the above post.
Perhaps we could get some clarification @Donald@HIDevolution

Just to clarify... I currently plan to order from HID with a single 1080 setup... are you saying I can request a vapor chamber upgrade to better cool the CPU and GPU? or did I misunderstand the above conversation? Thanks.

Thank you, if there's anything I've learned by watching this thread it's to call HID and not configure online, lol.

Are there any other "hidden" upgrades I should be asking for? I should have been keeping a list over the last few months of lurking, but guess I failed to do.

I have a P870DM2 from HID and it has the vapor heat sink, when I looked at the box it was actually the P870DM3, they had just taken out one of the GTX1080s. In terms of temps, the GPU never goes above 62c in firestrike or time thief. When I play Witcher 3 on ultra settings with hairworks on full, the temps fluctuate between 58-72 depend ing fan settings. It has the same CPU great sink as the P870DM from what I can see.

I'm getting too many mixed reports on the 'standard' heatsinks getting shipped in a single 1080 DM3 coming from Hidevolution. :(

If the vapor chamber is a standard part for a single 1080 config I don't the wtf I just 'upgraded' to then..

I think HID either never had the P870DM2 or ran out of them. They asked me if I was fine with having the vapor heat sink instead of the standard heat sink, which I was. The just took a P870DM3 and removed the second GTX1080 converting it to a P870DM2. I imagine once they have the P870DM2 in stock, which it looks like they do, you will have to pay extra for the vapor heat sink, as they need to order that part specifically. Hope that helps.

A 1080 is not going to be hard to shift ;)

The vapor chamber is heavier but offers superior cooling.

    Yup, that's fair enough though

I figured it would be easier and cheaper getting hold of one now rather than later. Plus if the cooling is superior, that's also something that interests me.

Also, has no one got a hold of the 3k 120hz 5ms screen option yet?

I'm thinking of selling my desktop to my boss and converting over to a full DTR. A p870dm3 single 1080 looks to fit that slot nicely. Are there any glaring problems that I missed in the thread? I do plan to travel with it. Will a cooling pad be needed?

    Ok, I have a question....

Has anyone been able to do peer to peer using the Thunderbolt 3 cable and connection. Connecting one laptop to another using the Thunderbolt 3 cable. I'm trying to test the speed of 10 gbps networking, but it does not detect the other machine. Both have drivers for Thunderbolt installed. For networking it also says that the networking driver is unknown. Any help here would be nice. Thanks.

Then you should probably check rather than waste your time and their time. As we've discovered over the past couple of pages the T-Shape heatsink is what comes with a single 1080.

I got my DM3 yesterday and I've spent all my free time downloading programs, tweaking the system, and generally trying to figure this thing out. Let me just start out saying that I am very disappointed with the stock bios. The stock bios has basically no useful options and cannot control fan profiles. Then again, the bios does have more options than my old laptop (ASUS 750JX) so it is a step in the right direction. I am really excited for the Prema Bios when it comes out :)

The Clevo Control center is decent for overclocking. I was able to get 4.5 GHz on the CPU and +150 MHz/+300 MHz on the GPU Core Clocks and Memory Clocks. In addition, for overclocking RAM, I activated the XMP profile through the Clevo Control center CPU OC app, and the system has done fine with 3000 MHz RAM.

So far the largest problem is with the fan speeds. I haven't been able to figure out how to get HWMonitor to even detect the fan speeds. Also, sometimes when left on "Automatic" the fans stay at about 10-20% speed (not positive since I can't see fan speed) until the CPU or GPU get close to 95 C and the game/bench I'm using crashes. If anyone has found a better way to manage fan profiles, I would appreciate any help. (I am using the most up-to-date CC version, 5.0001.0.83)

That I do not know. It's like the network driver isn't installed or something, because it shows as unknown in the TB3 menu.
I have looked around and they say it's enable for windows 10, but have yet to actually see anyone do it.

I know that it works on the Razer core. But it could be them piping their own network controller on the daughter board.
Mine also said, unknown as far as I can remeber it.
Maybe give Razer's Core drivers a shot.

Downgrade to 0.73, remove XTU after installation by simply deleting the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\(inside u shoud find the XTU folder)
    Set fan to custom. Done!
Overclock using Throttlestop and enable at startup, its even much better since clevo cc (xtu based ocing) doesnt stick between power cycles although it shows the saved config, e.g mine is set at x48 cpu is at 4.04 ghz, u need to set it 47x > apply > set it 48x again to apply each time which is annoying.

Prema bios mod won't fix the fan speeds afaik, its the EC issue, you have to wait for clevo to fix the issue.
Some suggested simply doing FN+1 but i find the noise ridiculous just to bring the temp down by -4c or so compared to "working Automatic" or Custom as i mentioned, don't listen to them as they do benchmarking mostly.

    Gl.

edit: disable xtu in service before deleting the folder, there will be one file left you cant remove you can ignore it.

That one file remaining which cannot be deleted, is because the CLEVO CC ****s with services it shouldn't.
For reasons unknown to.me, it messes with services that aren't even related to it like license servers. Cant restart those services , remove or update. Since they can't be closed/stopped/deleted.

I also noticed that, there is a CPU fan speed display in XTU, when I set fan to auto on .83, its goes from 0 rpm to 1000rpm for a second, why does the EC report fan speed to xtu(?) clevo? :p
I don't have this option (cpu fan speed) even on my desktop.

Every Clevo SLI system EC incl. P570WM is build on the original P370EM code base.
But don't start croshflashing or you get that kind of a brick which 'only' a new mobo can fix. ;)

Haha i'm completely aware of bricks etc, i am familiar with mcu programming, i'll dump the ec's rom (electrically with padding image) before doing anything fancy like ;)

Good to know that info, thanks ! :)

Ill take a look at p870dm-g service manual to familiarize as they seem 'basically' similar, before disassembling.
edit: nvm, that manual doesn't exist, thought i have seen it somewhere.

Main EC is directly hosted inside the 133PIN ITE controller.
The SOIC8 chip is only EC2 for the LID and keyboard light show.
