Only one SLI machine ever did that and people tended to get confused by it. There is a cost vs usage argument to be made.

At least it is good to hear that the issue is being looked into!
I hope you guys manage to sort things out! -
Hello everyone,
I hope I am not too out of topic / bothering you guys here but this seems like the best place to have answers to a couple of questions I have.
I am looking to get a clevo p870 custom build, and I am considering getting it from a few builders (originpc, hidevolution, malibal from which I got my previous p150sm build from and a good experience with, xotic and the likes); the question is which builder would you recommend? It seems to me that they might not use the same motherboard, am I mistaken or not? If so, which one offer the best one for the build? Are the graphic cards all the same (for the same GPU) ? (if not, what justify the sometimes 400USD price difference for the same config, being a 7700k dual 1080 for same ram and same HDD and SSD?)
I have been doing a bit a research regarding issues on that build; I have found on this forum that the dual charger connectors can be somewhat weak ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/p870-melting-power-plugs-and-sockets.802515/) (and I had a similar issue with my 150 but after 5 years of intensive use I am not to surprised); do you know of other issues/things to look out for on that type of build that I might not be aware of?
I thank you in advance for your help and I hope I am not pissing you off by asking a question already answered in a previous post that I would have missed.
And one day (soon!) I'll get to post on this thread as an official p870 owner! -
I got mine though Origin, and they have been great... But I would recommend HID just because they offer the delidding service. As far as the price difference I can't say.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk -
If I remember correct... Only HIDevolution offer @Prema unlocked custom firmware of mentioned builders above. +HID offer binned delidded cpu's with Liquid metal for lowest temp. And they have amazing support. I can see only one for you. Go with http://www.hidevolution.com/neohopper likes this.

I would have kept my P870DM3 if it had a MUX switch so I can actually use it in class but instead decided to sell it and just pay off my first year in Uni right away instead of waiting several months to generate the $.
Two of my friends bought an AW17 R4 instead of the P870DM3/KM1 because of battery life also. I went with a cute little AW13 to get the job done.
At the end of the day it's still a "laptop" and if Clevo would incorporate a MUX switch even though it'll increase the price maybe they'll sell a bit more.
I'm hoping the next gen(not the upcoming Z370 refresh) has something different to offer. My plan was to wait 1-2 years and see where the high-end laptop market goes.
The P870DM3 is damn near perfect, add in aluminum chassis and MUX switch and that's almost perfect. An 18.4" display would be interesting within the same bezel but panels are short in that size.ole!!!, Papusan, Donald@Paladin44 and 1 other person like this. -

HIDevolution is the only way I'd go especially if I was getting a Clevo Machine..
1- They are a Prema Partner so you'll get the Prema BIOS, without the Prema BIOS, these laptops are severely limited in terms of configuration options, overclocking capabilities, and worst of all, without the Prema BIOS, they all throttle when both the CPU and the GPU are in use but the Prema EC Firmware fixes that.
2- They some of the best build quality and do an awesome job when it comes to thermal paste application.
3- They are one of very few resellers that offer factory delidded CPUs, that by itself brings down the CPU temps by up to 20C and trust me, you don't want to use a desktop class CPU without delidding it unless you want to run into heat issues all the time.
4- Last but not least, they have some of the most versatile RAM configurations and SSD options so you can tailor configure your laptop to your needs.
5- They have the best customer service that I've experienced and many can vouch for that as well.

Over many years of being in the laptop market, currently the two best options for Clevo laptops that both offer CPU delid and advanced modded BIOSes are definitely ObsidianPC (for European markets) and HIDevolution (NA markets). Both ship worldwide but orders work in an ideal fashion in those markets, in all honesty.

Alienware M18x was aluminum and weighs around the same as the P870DM3. I'm sure it wouldn't be exponential heavier.
Then again you are talking to someone who would take his P870DM3 + 780W AC Adapter + books all in his Alienware Orion M17x backpack to school so...

It's worth nothing that when Prema and Obsidian unlocked BIOSes are compared side by side, performance and stability options are matched and this isn't coming from a subjective standpoint but rather objective usage between both P775 and P870 models, with respective BIOSes from each developer. If there are any doubts regarding the capabilities and how feature-rich each BIOS is, both reps from each brand are happy to clear up any questions
tl;dr - ObsidianPC BIOSes are unlocked akin to Prema through a different process but similar nonetheless. As stated above, both brands have shown high quality sales and customer support to prospective and current owners of what are effectively top of the line mobile systems, so kudos to both brands and all others who while not providing unlocked BIOSes, are very much worthwhile options to consider, also able to tailor their offerings to a wide range of customers. And yes, looking back, it might've not been as "tl;dr" as it was originally meant to be

Hey mate!
Welcome to the best forum out there & I am confident that with all the help you will receive here you will confidently come out of this with a better understanding on the best choices for yourself.
Personally myself I was in a similar position, as I was in dire need of an upgrade! Previously as many people know from my past posts I was rocking a 2011 MacBook Pro (bootcamp windows 7) to just barely play games.
I as well searched through many forums and watched tech videos for weeks on until I came across this Magical forum. Which during that time I was leaning towards a getting a BGA laptop, but due to the weeks of reading through peoples posts and my other threads, I received overwhelming, especially @Mr. Fox @Phoenix @Papusan etc. feedback on choices and at the end I bought a high end beast of a machine EVOC P870km1 from HIDevolution. Props to @Donald@HIDevolution for the great support through this process.
To conclude my experience, I am extremely pleased with my purchase, and would definitely come back to HIDevolution in the future. Their support tis also unparalleled to what I have come across from other companies during my initial enquiries. I hope this is helpful mate!

PremaMods (unlike any other firmware out there) have board throttle disabled, forced undervolts removed and a whole bunch of other stuff 'fixed' under the hood...
Essentially you can't run any overclocks on Clevo without running into massive throttle...just having more BIOS options won't do much for you these days if you already have XTU/TS or CCC to do the basics for you.
We have finally killed the low level board throttle, just need to bring it all into a end-user work-able shape:

Hi all, I recently purchased an AW17R4 (7820hk, GTX 1080, QHD 120hz display, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD) for $2300 and I keep hearing reports about Dell's QC issues regarding their high-end builds. Its not the materials or design that are the problem but they keep having issues with their manufacturing process in their facilities in China. Anyway, I've had a terrible experience with their CS and I'm already getting prepared to have issues with this product when it gets here Friday. If it does, I'm pulling the plug on Dell and going with a Clevo P870KM1 model with the desktop 7700k CPU and a GTX 1070 (which I think is similarly matched in price with the above AW). Has anyone had issues with heat or stuttering with these machines? And if I do decide to return the Alienware, can anyone recommend a good retailer that sells these other than xoticpc.com or sagernotebook.com that has better financing options?

As requested by some P870KM1-G users:
I have finished the video of the same run as last test on Battlefield: Hardline using the .925 Silver lid, but this time with "Full" fans on Clevo dash and full fans on the x3 U3+ Vardar mod cooler. The last test was on "Automatic" fans through the Clevo dash and 40% 1100RPM x3 U3+ Vardar mod cooler.
Last video (Auto Fans, 40% 1100RPM x3 Vardar cooler)
2x 1080 GPU: 57c max
CPU 7700K 4.5GHz: 68c max
This Video (Full Fans, 100% 3000RPM x3 Vardar cooler)
2x 1080 GPU: 49c max
CPU 7700K 4.5Ghz: 62c max

Hi Prema,
Yes, it looks like Clevo has purposely been promoting poorly designed systems with the added feature of guaranteed obsolescence within 1 to 2 years. Maybe they're just following Intel's long term strategy of separating the laptops and desktops markets. They obviously have a strong financial incentive not to promote high quality upgradable desktop replacements, since there's so much more revenue to be made from selling obsolescence.
By the way, I'm currently unable to use the full 32GB of 4x8GB rams on my P570WM3 running your Prema Mod Bios 1.03.07PM V5 1T-Edition and my recent upgrade to a Xeon E5-2690 v2 made it even less stable with command rate 1T. I would appreciate it very much if you can provide me with a copy of your 2T Edition. Please advise me as to what I can do to expedite this request. Thank you for providing your great feature rich BIOS mods.
Cheers! -

980m and 970m machines are still perfectly usable 3 years on. Planned obsolescence would be have the devices slow down or deliberately break. -

Hi Guys
I just recently got 2x16gb G.Skill Ripjaws SO-DIMM DDR4 PC24000/3000MHz CL16 stick. I'm unable to get them run at 3000Mhz though. XMP profile1 doesn't boot, XMP2 boots but BSOD on windows login. at 2400mhz passed memtest with no errors. I'm not too familiar with memory configurations so I was thinking, If you could suggest me some timings or tips how to get it run at 3000Mhz .
I tried these, but no boot:
Thank you in advance -

Same here I am not familiar too. While we are on the subject: If anyone knows any good working memory timings for the G.Skill Ripjaws SO-DIMM DDR4 PC24000/3000MHz CL16 or the Corsair Vengeance SO-DIMM DDR PC24000/3000MHz, then please share. My Corsairs only run at 2666mhz as default, no XMP profile will work.
And I will also like to add, that my Corsair 64GB stick kit does not work on my friends p870km1. Any two 32GB sets from the full 64GB kit works, but his laptop refuses to boot pass the "style note" boot screen when all of the 64GB kit is inserted. I'm puzzled. .. -

oy vey goyims, prepare to buy new mbs cause we artificially locked upgrades!
bit-tech: So if you wanted and Intel let you, you could make Z270 compatible?
Andrew: Yes, but you also require an upgrade from the ME [Management Engine] and a BIOS update. Intel somehow has locked the compatibility.

We are planning to offer upgrade kits to Coffee Lake version of P870TM series - check with our Support Team for details. Don't forget also about upgrading your AC Adapter to 780W. 8700K CPU can be O/C over 150W and each GTX 1080 to over 250W, so you need more power.

Depends how far you want to push it really, for extreme benching then maybe. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There are reasons why it's not just so easy, part of that is wanting a cohesive platform where you can be sure a board is compatible, what if some of those unused pins have been put to use like Asus have done, it creates a bit of a marketing mine field. -
This model is not sustainable. Older models will be shifted to the SH market, new mmodels keep flooding the market, at one point it will crush under its own weight.
-
Longest story shortest, I was considering whether I might want to go to getting a small and light laptop for home usage and keep a desktop workstation for workstation usage, and then I stumble opon this!

@Papusan and @Mr. Fox will love this
Throttling at 86C on CPU and reaching 80 C GPU under normal conditions.
I honestly don't think there is anything but Clevos worth looking at anymore, this costs about 1300$ in Romania and it throttles like there is no tomorrow!
I think I might change my direction to staying with Clevos just go to P8XX series eventually, I really am not sure anymore...Dr. AMK likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Except the old ones do fall away as they don't have the features and performance people want. -
Well...
At least Clevo won't go out of business soon, they seem to be the only laptop that is not artifically throttling. They reach high temps, but those high temps are still lower than some counterparts, and they are still the best performing more or less.
What pains me when it comes to desktops is that I don't have patience / inner peace to know that it is a very gamble-y thing where you will use that thing for less than two years before it will require an upgrade if you're doing bleeding edge work. -
I’m quite sure you don’t need to upgrade from let’s say i9-7960/7980 within 2 years if you are used to use 4 core/8 threads i7
It’s you who determines what you want or need. Also cheaper 1950X 16 cores TR would most likely give you more than 2 years lifespan for your workflow.
Last edited: Oct 17, 2017Georgel likes this. -
Yes, but it is two years...
Also, I'd much rather go with 8700K instead of i9 simply due to their price, it is cheaper to upgrade 8700k than to keep i9 for that period.
My gripe is that the upgrade now means upgrading the motherboard as well as the CPU, this makes selecting components and guessing what is best even harder. I don't know what motherboard would be the best and it looks like reviews are much more contradictory when it comes to motherboards than other components... -
