Unlikely and I wouldnt try it. It might brick your laptop. Also, the E19 is the 8750H model

Hello all,
Looking into getting a new laptop after having my trusty Lenovo Y410P for half a decade. I liked that laptop enough, but the cheap plastic has seen better days. I went to my local Microcenter to check out an open box Powerspec 1710, disliked how cheap and flimsy it felt, but I really liked the 1520 sitting next to it. Now I'm trying to decide if I want that laptop (not that I need that much power), the Sager 8957 from GenTech for a bit more with all the modifications I would do (1TB storage, dual channel ram, thermal paste, though only the max-q 2070), or if I should just wait til Black Friday on those or something like a Lenovo Y740. I'm primarily concerned with build quality and thermals, as I want something that will last me a while. I was looking at cheaper $800-1000 laptops, but it was a lot of cheap plastic and unnecessarily thin chassis. I guess my question is how that Powerspec holds up, what other modifications would it need, and whether I'd be better off with that Sager (which might be a different chassis?). -
As far s build qulaity I have zero complaints after 4-5 months. I regularly put my laptop in a backpack and ride my motorcycle 80 miles to a friends. This laptop might have been going over 150MPH at some points of it's life. I treat it well, but I don't baby it and I use it often/daily. I have also disassembled it at least 10 times, heatsink off at least 6 times. No stripped screws, or cracked plastics anywhere. That's been my experience so far.RiseFromYourGrav likes this. -

This laptop definately feels like it'll last. Deck and lid is metal while the screen bezels and bottom panel are plastic. The thermals are amazing stock and even better with liquid metal (I have the 2070 and 8750H) and not that chunky. I've had mine since late June and I'm a uni student so I constantly keep moving it about. Have zero issues with the build quality.
Didn't realise Clevo made a P950 (looks to continue the P650) but dayum, those bezels are THICK. PB51 should have a smaller footprint due to the thinner bezels.RiseFromYourGrav likes this. -

Hi!
Picked up an PB51RF (RTX2070 / i9-9980HK / 4K), branded Multicom / Kunshan. Non OS. Drivers on a DVD of course, which I cannot access. Not a single disc-reading device left in the house by now... However, I found a set of PB5x drivers on the resellers website. Those seem to be from Clevo.
Windows update seem to have figured out most of the drivers on its own though. I installed latest Nvidia drivers from their website, and ran Intels Driver and Support Assistant as well. I found installers for the FN-key app and Clevos Control Center. Now everything seem to be up and running.
Still, I am not quite sure if I might be missing some of the manufacturers apps besides of the Control Center or FN keys. Thus I ask.
PS! Good impression of the device otherwise. Better build quality than most MSIs and performance is of course stellar. 4K OLED is great for the kind of work I do. A little fiddly to disassemble like so many laptops, but absolutely doable and I could reuse an old Samsung EVO 840 1tb and a Crucial M500 M.2 500gb from my 2014-era laptop together with the SSD the new one came with (I don't trust mech drives). -

Yeah, so apparently these laptops can die like anything else.
After a few days of intense setting up and configuring all the software I need, I was working in Premiere and suddenly a slight "pop" and my PB51RF goes all black. Completely dead. No diodes light up, no response from power button. It does not even seem to attempt to start POST. Attempted a CMOS clear and unplugged drives and such "just in case", but I knew instantly that it was a gonner when it went out like that. Nothing particular done with it, except swapping some drives and undervolting.
I've built computers since the 486DX4 was the hottest thing on the marked and can't remember one dying so sudden like this and be absolutely dead as a dodo. Got to be internal power suppy or mobo. No smell of burning or unusual heat. Been working mostly ok this far, but had one serious crash to black screen and reboot a couple of days ago.
Time to go through RMA and all that stuff. Sigh... -

Anyone here gone from an Intel 9560 to the Intel AX200 wifi card? Was wondering if it would be worth spending the £20 getting it.

Guys I have a major issue. My laptop has stopped detecting my M.2 ssd (Adata SX8200 PRO 512GB) and that was my boot drive so I have zero clue what to do now.
At first, it was detected but windows was crapping out so I tried putting in a hard drive with another installation of windows to try and pull the data from it but it's no longer being detected.
EDIT: Okay so it is being detected but only 0.9GB is found :/Last edited: Nov 9, 2019 -

You could see if it works in an external enclosure.

For the Microcenter Powerspec 1520, can we use another resellers bios? It seems the microcenter support page for this product has been archived and not longer updated.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Probably? That is the issue going with a big box store.
-
If you live near a Microcenter, keep an eye as they are beginning to clearance these. Found an open box for 900 and it came with a full year warranty (used my citi card as they extend the warranty another 2 yrs for free). Perfect condition but ran a little warm and has minimal light bleed in the lower right hand corner. Did a repaste with ICQ diamond and undervolted -130 on both the cache and core and CPU temps are nice - low to mid 60's on p95 with only a 3 degree difference on all the cores. The cpu was pulling just under 60 watts and running all cores a hair under 3.9 ghz.

Anyone experience slower fan speed when connecting through external display?
Mine runs at 4200 rpm max when gaming on external display (max fan profile selected in Clevo CC). If I unplugg, it will run at 4600 rpm. -
Recentky taken delivery of a PB50RF-G from pc specialist.. very happy with it so far. 2 minor issues though
Fan control just says null on both check boxes for auto and i guess custom. Tried reinstalling from Microsoft store with no fix. Secondly when i plug in headphones sound is very echoey.. i think the soundblaster reverb setting is the issue but sunny know how to fix apart from manually changing the setting each time. I've searched her but no one else reports these issues

It should work properly out of the box, I'd talk to pc specialist since it's their build they should know the common issues.

Yes, the reverb can be removed by changing profile in SoundBlaster Connect. I haven't tried with headphones plugged in, but the profile change seems to persist across reboots, at least without headphones.
Regarding the null fan values, I had the same, I guess the Control Centre they ship it with is buggy.
I looked for the most up to date drivers for all devices and control centre, downloading the latest versions from other resellers and clevo itself.
That fixed it.Last edited: Nov 16, 2019Major_Hazzard likes this. -

Okay so good news for me, it was the SSD that broke and not my laptop. People at CCL (where I bought the SSD) were good sports about it and gave me the option of a replacement or a refund. I went with the refund so I can buy the 1TB version instead

Nice, the extra storage is a nice plus too.

Hi, since this thread is a lot more active than the PB71 thread, I'll just ask here since they are basically the same model just with different size. On that note, my friend is looking into buying the PB71RF-G but he wants to buy with a German Keyboard. He is currently in the US and he was looking to buy from Gentech due to their amazing price, but when he contacted Gentech, they said they don't have a German keyboard. So now he is deciding of buying the German Keyboard separately and install it himself.
The question here is though, what model does the PB71RF-G keyboard comes with? We look on ebay and there are just too many different keyboards for different Clevo Chasis series and non specifically for PB71RF or PB51RF (but honestly they all look physically the same). So he is wondering are most of these keyboards (with RGB back-lit ofcourse) would work with PB71RF-G?
If it doesn't, does anyone know where we could buy a German Keyboard for the PB71RF-G?Last edited: Nov 21, 2019 -

Any PB7X series will certainly fit, I think the PB5x series too as well.

What you guys think of my little project?

Needs another layer of displays on top
now all you need to do is get the keyboard colour banding to line up with the desktop background

Has anyone had any luck with multi-screen through the TB3 port? My system seems to fully recognize both monitors, but neither monitor is getting input. Works just fine on my wife's work laptop.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Are the monitors handling the chaining? Does a single display work?
-

Doubt it's a problem with the dock or monitors since if I just unplug it and stick it in my wifes laptop, they both pop on right away. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Does a single monitor display if one is plugged in?
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What is the security on the port set to in the bios?
-
Also may be worth noting, that nothing shows up to be approved in the TB3 control app, regardless of the setting. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What TB3 driver did you download?
-

Sounds like your displayport signal is not getting to your thunderbolt port, speak to your reseller.
-
Try this driver:
TBT Driver Version 1.41.648.4
https://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download/ftpout_download.asp?sno=10955&no=1
It's a newer version than those two you tried. -

Anyone got any tips / guides to follow to improve battery life? Mine seems to only last between 1hr 30 mins - 2 hrs on battery saving on + optimus + power saving plan + undervolts
-
Same here.
Main problem is that:
1. Idle package power is 3-5 W (razer, dell and asus eats 0.1 W in idle, pure C10 state)
2. Fans never stop.
3. MSHybrid is not Optimus, is similar but something else -
See my post a few days ago.
Make sure you update to latest bios and only then use 'Load Optimal Defaults'.
My machine came with misconfigured timings for CPU Cstates transitions, that fixed it.
Idle cpu package power should be in the 0.1xW range, yes -
What bios version number do you have?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Use the nvidia activity indicator in the control panel to ensure it is off.
-
The bios flashing process will not update the config that needs to be updated.
You need to explicitly trigger a reset to optimal defaults, updating won't be enough -

EDIT: Nvm, found it.
Lowest I've managed to get my package power is 4.7W and not under 1W :\Last edited: Dec 2, 2019
