So I've been looking up these new Gallium Nitride (GaN) chargers for phones and how they're making chargers smaller and more efficient so I'm wondering if we'll ever see a laptop charger version of it. Having a smaller 230W brick is always welcomed!

Has anyone had issues with their battery overcharging? My PB51EF-G seems to be overcharging its battery now after ~8 months of ownership and it causes the whole system to clock down and go into limp mode. I don't see any BIOS updates available for the machine, all drivers are up to date, I have tried full discharge/charge 2-3 times, and restarting the laptop does not fix it. A full shutdown power cycle provides about 20 minutes of proper operation before it goes back into limp mode and removing the battery solves the issue completely until the battery gets reinstalled. Is there anything I can do outside of purchasing a new battery?

Why do you believe it is overcharged?

Okay is my laptop being weird or is discrete mode giving better battery life than MSHybrid? Just had a lecture, doing my usual note taking and such and my battery went down by 25% on discrete mode compared to 40 or 50% on mshybrid mode. That's a huge difference!

It could have been over on shipment, there is some variance. When you say limp mode what are we talking CPU clocks wise?
-
If you want battery life, this is what you should fix first.
I did update the BIOS (14), EC (12), CMOS reset, updated every single driver from clevo, latest windows, powercfg -energy shows nothing. I just give up. -
Editing the power plan in Windows to 100% minimum frequency and 100% maximum frequency and active cooling for both plugged in and battery operation does not yield any changes and neither does changing battery/performance settings in any of the other handful of places it can be done in Windows 10.
Last night I gamed for about 5 hours with the battery completely removed and running solely off the AC adapter and the machine worked wonderfully.
I also tried enabling Flexicharger in the BIOS and set the minimum level to 80% and maximum to 90%. The battery does indeed go to 90% and stop charging but soon after it reaches the 90% it appears to overcharge again and the machine goes back into limp mode. I did not check the mAh readings in HW Monitor during this scenario but will next time.
A few days ago I did notice something else odd that I neglected to mention: despite the battery being completely removed, the battery icon showed 255% battery available when hovering over the icon in the taskbar. Please forgive the potato photo. The machine showing 255% available with no battery installed is one of my reasons for thinking there's a chance the machine is not interacting with the battery correctly.

The XMG bios and EC updates are found here: https://download.schenker-tech.de/package/xmg-pro15-xpr15e19/
Just be warned that it might not work or worse if you dont have an XMG branded one. Also, this is for the 8750H version.

Hmmm... I wonder if this screen would work in this laptop?

4K 120HZ would be pretty sweet... -
If you take the plunge let me know if it works. That'd probably be my next upgrade.

40Pin (0.5mm PITCH ,special)
That's the connector. Sounds a little suspect but you could compare to others they have. -
C states being locked is causing the CPU to lock itself at 40x max multiplier and wastes a ton of battery as well.
PS. The C State disable/enable option doesn't become available upon resetting the BIOS to default, it just gets enabled.

Even 70 fps would look better, the desktop too.

Had to reinstall Windows since it kept refusing to boot unfortunately so I had to redownload over 1TB of games :|
The good news is that I think it fixed my C-states and my battery life is much better now:

Yeah the processor being on full juice even idle would kill your battery life.

So, I picked one of these up back in December and I'm having an issue with the Thunderbolt port. The setup I have currently is two external monitors (connected via DP) and a USB hub all connected to a TB3/USB-C dock (Cal-Digit USB-C/TB3 Pro Dock). When I connect the dock to my laptop only one monitor will be detected at a time and none of the accessories plugged into the USB hub are detected. If I unplug both monitors and plug them back in, it's always the first one plugged in that's detected.
The dock should work with either the TB3 port or the USB-C port (obviously with lower resolution/refresh rates) but neither ports are working. I can bypass the dock and just plug everything in individually and the setup will work, but I was hoping to connect via the one cable as I come and go from my desk.
I returned the dock and had a replacement sent (same model), but it still has the same issues. Unfortunately I don't have another USB-C/TB3 laptop to test it out separately, but the fact that two separate docks had the same problem makes me think it's an issue with the laptop.
I bought from XoticPC and contacted them, but they've honestly been little help. Was hoping someone might have a suggestion on what to try next. -
Which USB-C port are you using?
-

What dock are you using? Can it split the dp channel?
-

The port on the right side is the thunderbolt port. The one on the back isn't.

Hey, I'm looking for RTX2060 vBIOS for my Clevo PB51. I'm trying to increase power limit from 80W to 90W or even more.
Did anyone succeed? -
Thanks for the replies - I have tried using the dock in both the USB-C port on the back and the TB3 port on the side, and neither works.
Here is the specific dock I am using, which from everything I can tell at least looks like it should be able to handle the 2 monitors and usb hub in this set up:

Thanks again everyone! -

But it just works
what monitors?
-
I’m using two Acer XFA240 bmjdpr monitors ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06ZYHZ6R6/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
Both are connected via DP ports, unless I bypass the dock in which case I have a DP to USB-C adapter and a DP to mini-DP adapter. -
Maybe it can only have one DP connection coming through the USB-C to the GPU? Have you tried daisy-chaining them and only using one of the ports on the hub?

Also have you tried limiting it to 60hz incase the dock has a weird limitation?
-
My GPU temps have never passed 65 degrees since I repasted it with Kryonaut/Gelid Extreme. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Power delivery and vrm temperatures are the thing to consider.
-
And as far as VRM temps go, I don't have exact numbers, but my GPU and CPU temperatures wouldn't be chilly AF if my VRM temps were even close to high (seeing as all those things share a single cooler). -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Oh they could be, you can get large deltas between die temperature of the vrms and heatsink temperature.

Having a 4k 120hz is nice for media content and you can always drop back to 1080p 120hz for games
Hopefully they do become a decent option. -

guys does anybody knows how to enable gsync on pb50rf ? i bought this beast from pcspecialists but im missing display option in nvidia control panelz also checked intel graphics but its not there, is there any way i csn switch to nvidia card only? thanks
-
There's an option in the BIOS to switch to discrete mode, or if you have the Control Center apps installed you can switch to discrete mode in that, then the G-Sync option with be available.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The intel graphics driver will not load when in that mode too so you know which mode you are in.

Thinking of getting faster RAM, what's better?
3200mhz @ CL20
3000mhz @ CL16
Or I might just slurge and go for 3200mhz @ CL16 from Crucial.

With the released of Half-Life: Alyx, I'm thinking of buying VR (looking at Oculus Rift S). However I know that Steam VR Index is a lot more expensive but I do wonder if my laptop can run the Index with its higher refresh rate and resolution. I have the :
Clevo PB71RF-G
- 9th Gen Intel Coffee Lake Core i7-9750H 6 cores
- nVidia RTX 2070 GPU 8GB GDDR6
- 16GB DDR4 2666MHz PC21300
Also when I ran the "Are You Ready for Valve Index" on steam, the result was "Perhaps", lol
So, anyone ever tested using VR on their laptop and whether this laptop can handle the Steam VR Index?

Im using a Lenovo Explorer which has a per eye resolution of 1440x1440 while the Index is 1440x1600. It'll be fine. Might not make full use of the 120hz display tho. Maybe in games like Beat Saber the 120hz will come into use

So I just noticed a new option in Throttlestop called Hardware Duty Cycle (HDC) in the TPL menu. Problem is that when I try to enable it, it keeps disabling itself. Anyone know why?

Sager NP8453 (Clevo PB51RF) In days, bluescreen display turned off and did not start anymore. Last time I tried to set undervolt to throttlestop for the CPU and turned it off with a blue screen. I tried removing the RAM, but nothing happened. I took out the BIOS battery and nothing happened. I bought it from GentechPc in America. In principle, there is still a guarantee, but I live in Germany. What can I do in this situation?

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Reach out to them still and see if they have any suggestions for recovery, you have done a cmos reset which is usually the main shot at this sort of thing. Was the machine doing anything at the time? Was it stock?
