I took out the CMOS battery, waited 15 minutes and the situation is the same, the laptop turns on, the LED next to the power button flashes in principle to indicate that the reset has taken place and then the laptop turns off and restarts, then after 10 seconds the discrete mode LED lights up, the keyboard lights up, but the screen does not turn on, the nvme ssd connector gets very hot, i wait 1 minute then turn off the laptop then turn it on again and the same thing happens. On the other hand, the fans spin up to fn+1 combo at maximum rpm.

If you had another different speed rating stick of ram that can sometimes wake it up if it was a settings issue but you did not answer my question about what the machine was doing and set at?

Going to start an "overhaul" of my laptop. Replacing the RAM with 3200mhz CL16 (the crucial one came back in stock for £73, fooking awesome!), getting the Intel AX200 wifi card (Im hopeing it'll use less power) and replacing the screen with a 4K 120hz panel (just ordered the replacement lid so it'll fit). I'm also going to apply liquid metal to both the CPU and GPU as well (currently have it only on the CPU and kryonaut on the GPU).

Hopefully by the end, I'll boost my minimum FPS in games (faster RAM = higher min FPS), reduce temperatures (so the GPU boosts higher) and have a better movie/TV watching experience (4K screen with maybe HDR? Dunno exactly about the HDR)

Keep us updated on that 4k panel swap. Is it G-Sync compatible? I didn't notice a drastic improvement when I got a dual-channel 32gb 3000mhz kit. Not sure why, but it is running in dual-channel.

That AX card is on my upgrade list as well, as I have an AX router. If you have one too I'd be curious as what kind of real-world difference you actually get over AC.

EDIT: Also, if you want to add/upgrade your SSDs in this overhaul, the Rocket ones are a great value, and up near the top in performance.

It is not GSYNC compatible. Using the standard display cable (40 pin to 30 pin), it's limited to 60hz so i'm waiting for the lid to use a proper 40 pin cable.
The most notable differences with faster ram is the minium fps. Also, tighter timings is ideal.
I dont have a wifi 6 router yet, it's more of a future proof option (and I'm hopeing it uses less power than the 9560 I currently have but that's a long shot)
I've already got a pretty nice Sandisk NVMe 2TB SSD that's near enough to the fastest SSDs you can get for laptops so I think I'm good on that end :p

Funny, with the factory bios on my Metabox PB51RF-G, when BIOS is reset it defaults to MSHYBRID not Discrete. Try starting it with FN-D, see if the reset still works.

The bios can have the default set to whatever the reseller wants.

It's like the bios isn't back to default, no matter how many times i take out the CMOS battery, wait a few minutes, then put the battery back on and turn on the laptop, it can't switch to MSHYBRID, the DISCRETE LED always lights up, it's like would have stuck in discrete mode, but the screen is black. I tried different speeds of RAM and nothing happened anyway. My RAM sticks are 2666mhz clocked in normal mode, but I used them at 3000mhz with an XMP profile.
In this situation, the laptop motherboard is very hot in the marked location.
    https://imgur.com/a/mI2XiCm
I also tried the FN-D combination and nothing happened. It's as if you can't return to the default position so it doesn't switch to MSHYBRID mode either, no matter how many times i turn on the laptop, the DISCRETE mode LED always lights up, but the screen is black.

You're referring to the PCH chip? Mine got very hot stock too. I cut away some of the insulating tape under the heatpipe above, then squeezed two thick thermal pads between. It still reaches 80°c when the GPU is loaded, but now idles in the low 50's.

Also try FN-B, see if it enters BIOS recovery mode.

    Hi,

I have a clevo PB50_70EF,ED,EC and my BIOS version is currently at 1.07.04TASP based on the intel driver support page dated
    12/1/2018.

I was wondering if there are any new bios updates which may have been introduced to update or fixes lately?

BIOS flashes are mostly only recommended if you are having issues but your reseller is the source for them.

Anyone else having issues with Sound Blaster Connect? It's just decided it no longer wants to work on my laptop with barely any options to choose (I can close it, change the symbol from headphones to stereo system and adjust the volume but that's it). I want my EQ settings :(

Anyone know if it's possible to replace the screen with another GSYNC panel and have it work? Was curious because the panel in the Lenovo Legion Y740 15" has HDR 400, 500 nit brightness, 144hz and GSYNC and I found the exact panel.

So it's okay if the PCH chip heats up, i got it.

I have tried the FN-D, FN-B combinations and the laptop is not responding to any of them. For the FN-1 combination, on the other hand, the fans spin up to a maximum rpm. Still, the problem is that if I turn on the laptop, the screen stays black and does not respond to anything and is as if it is stuck in DISCRETE mode. The BIOS may be stuck because it's like not resetting it.

Okay so changing the display cable is gonna be a little more tricky than I thought:

How do you replace that sort of cable? I was too scared to even try to pull it out

Pulling it out is actually easier than putting it back in. Just give it nice tug on the tape handle straight upright and it should pop right out.

Be careful to align the new cable plug properly to the socket before putting pressure on it to snap it back in place. Misaligning it with pressure can cause damage to pins and socket. Overall, it’s a fairly simple job.

This is gonna sound stupid but is there a video showing this properly? I really dont want to break anything xD
Also, would it have the same connector as the one on the panel itself?

The connectors on each end are different and it would be pretty obvious. Just pull on the black plastic ribbon tab that is sticking up and give it a nice tug. Once its off, it'll start making sense to you on how simple it is or try googling and youtubing it. Good luck.

Is it normal for a normal RTX 2070 to pull 125W? I thought the max it could pull was 115W. Because of that extra 10W, my OC'd 2070 is reaching 2GHz constantly which is awesome :)
Just wish I could OC the memory without it crashing constantly :(
I applied liquid metal on it so now under full load, it stays under 80C :D

Ah turns out it was peak, not sustained. Oh well.

On another note, I tried removing the display cable from the motherboard but it just wont3 budge. If I add more force to it, it feels like I'm gonna break it.

Welp Im annoyed. Despite getting the specific display lid for 4K panels, this 4K 120hz panel is STILL too big on the bottom. Time to crack out the sandpaper and file I guess.

Sad times, I got the 3200mhz CL16 RAM but trying to enable XMP just causes it to black screen during boot. The standard speed is 2666mhz CL19 so what would you guys suggest I try to set the timings and speed at.

Interesting. In HWINFO, it does show other profiles for the RAM at different speeds so I guess I'll try setting the values to the 3000mhz profile.

It looks like the timings in my BIOS are 18 20 20, and voltage is 1250. Mine has two 3000mhz profiles, the other is 18 23 23 I think, at 1200.

It does say 2021 so maybe when there's more powerful GPUs that can actually run it at that resolution.

The current RTXs should be able to do it just fine I think. I can get 60+ fps in Forza Horizon 4 in 4K on my TV. Obviously other games would probably be lower, but I imagine most games could easily be over 60fps in 1440p.

Oh dont get me wrong, I'd love to shove that panel in my current laptop. High refresh rate QHD in laptops is what I've been asking for a long time now :)
Makes a lot more sense than 4K panels.

Yeah, I think it should be alot more common than it is. 4K is kind of pointless on a 15" screen, but 1440p is pretty much the ideal resolution imo. Still a noticable increase from HD, and not as demanding as 4K.

Which memory are you using? I am looking at faster memory, maybe 3200mhz (like this one here https://www.newegg.com/global/sg-en...o-dimm/p/N82E16820156243?Item=N82E16820156243)
It will be running XMP and I m not sure if it will be compatible. Any advise pls?

Thats the exact same model I got. Still, 2800 CL16 is better than what it was before so go for it if you want. If you have 9th gen cpu, it might work better.

2070 can run 1440p just fine (60+ fps) provided you dun set everything to ultra. Certain games (e.g. Control, GR: Breakpoint, Red Dead 2) even desktop 2070 can't get 60 fps on ultra
