You have driver cleaner as a pinned icon on your start menu?

Try removing it and putting it back on.

CCC, if a computer program of any kind fails to run and a re-install is easy then you may as well start there.

Hi guys, I'm getting my laptop (PB71RF-G) delivered this coming Thursday from Gentech and I am pretty excited about it. Is there like a post somewhere that someone could point me to as to what I should do right out of the box? Like stress testing and everything. I know I should do this when it is within the return policy period.

Yup, and it'll be free to play next weekend too, which is perfect timing for when the laptop arrives.

Ok, I get that running Battlefield V for the stress test part. Is there anything else I should be doing? I'm definitely gonna look into undervolting it. I read in an old thread that some people suggest to let new laptop run 24/7 for a whole week to see if there's gonna be any problem with it. Is that a good idea?

I'm also wondering what do you usually do first when you install Windows 10. As currently I am using a Macbook Pro and have been using MacOS for 6 years now and kinda already forgotten how to use Windows (I've never used Win 10 yet), lol.

Ok cool. Another thing, what do most of you guys do in terms of battery care? The new laptop will just be sitting on my desk and I will hardly ever move it around. (If I do need to be on the move, I will just use my current MacBook). So is it a good idea to just unplug the battery and will this save the battery performance in the long run?

The PB70EF-G models (possibly more) have 'FlexiCharger' BIOS feature which helps support longer battery life by allowing you to set custom charge and discharge levels. I am using 40/80, but you can set these limits to anything from 10-99 I believe. When you want to travel with the notebook, simply disable the feature and charge fully to 100% as usual. It's a great addition and I've used it the entire life of my laptop so far.

I am having a weird issue. Headphone Jack doesn't work. Doesn't even show in sound control panel. When i launch realtek audio console it launches then quits. When I launch devices inside the windows control panel, i get the same behaviour.

Latest realtek drivers installed with creative control panel as well.

    any tips ?

my fn+esc key still wont work. ive tried all known version of the control panel in the internet as well as the base control panel in the usb stick that came with the laptop. it wont still run. this has been like this for the past 2 months after the windows update. :( i cant control the lightings and the fans, etc. what i can only do is to select the profile by using the shortcut at the lower right of the taskbar. can someone help me on this?? :(

ive tried uninstalling, clean registry, shut down, open, install again, clean registry and restart. but still fn+esc wont open the Clevo Control Center. :(

    HELLPP!!!

I see that this thread is kind of dead but how are people liking their PB71RF-Gs. What is rally holding me back is the screen as I can't find much information on it. I'm debating between a GE75, a Strix III, and a PB71RF-G

Well, I enjoy it a lot, and consider it's one of the good investments I've made into electronics. The potential downside is not about the screen but the fan noise but it's kinda standard in this age with high performance laptops. Hardware ID of the monitor of mine is auo409d, if you want to dig info on that. Hope this helps.

Build quality is pretty good imo. I got the 15" and it's pretty sturdy. Screen hinges are firm. Only gripe with the design is the power port in the back makes it somewhat tricky to pick up and set down with one hand, but that's obviously pretty minor.

I'd stay away from the Strix III unless it has G-Sync. The RTX chips have a pretty big performance hit with Optimus, to the point where the 2070 doesn't even do much better than the 1070 in most games. This is just based on results from earlier this year, so it's possible they've improved it. I'd still go with a G-Sync or switchable system though, and you can't do much better for the money than these.

I have the PB51EF, so it has the 15" 144hz panel. This one is pretty good. Very little light bleed, good viewing angle. No complaints on mine, but I can't speak for the 240hz panel. I'd assume it's at least fairly close though.

Thermals are pretty good. Here's a graph I posted a few months ago in the PB51 thread.

I was in the same boat. I wanted the GE75 for pure power but I ended up getting the P960RN when it was on sale as a happy compromise. Needed to repaste myself to get great thermals / performance. Stock paste isn’t good. Very light metal build with a nice bright 16.1” display. Easy to service and upgrade. It’s an awesome in between against a GS65 - GS75 with full sized keyboard and proper off center glass trackpad. No thunderbolt support but easy to hook up to an Oculus Rift-S on the go! Running latest windows 10 build and NVidia drivers and stable.

If you can afford a GE75 the RTX 2080 model has the bigger battery than it’s 2070 version. Firmware is unlockable by hotkey on all models too. It’s a beast. No thunderbolt either but plenty of USB ports.

It's a thinner plastic chassis though so you wonder about hinge and general chassis life along with thermal flex.

Any more owners of the PB71 RF-G out there? According to a comprehensive video I saw online, gsync is really quite helpful but without knowing much about the thermals on this computer it is pretty hard to pull the trigger. Really wish there was more information out there about the PB71

I wa also looking to buy that one, but with lack of good reviews and the faxt that the seller didn't sell a single piece pushed me towards TongFang.
Lacking support of G-sync but uptill now it runs everything fluently.

Well the PB51 I have stays pretty cool.
Using it on my lap (so youd get better results if you put it on a desk and proped it up) I got 89C on the CPU and 88C on the GPU. The CPU stayed at 3.9GHZ and the highest the GPU got was 1875mhz. Keep in mind, I do have it undervolted and have liquid metal on the CPU and kryonaut on the GPU.
The PB71 should get you even better results since it's bigger.

So are there any 1440 or 4K panels available that would swap into this yet?

Nothing 1440p I am aware of, 4k potentially but that usually murders battery life and response times.

    Hey !

Thank you for this insight, did you remove the heatsink to liquid metal it ? do you know the thickness of the thermal pads necessary for the VRAM ?

Yes I had to remove the heatsink to liquid metal it (as in, I had to take it off, apply liquid metal and put it back on) but I dont know about the thermal pads. I kept the original ones on.
This just makes me sad. 1440p makes much more sense than a 4K screen in gaming laptops yet manufacturers are pushing it cause "moar pixels = better"

I agree. If there was a 1440p 17" panel available I'd jump on upgrading from the PB51 to the PB71 in a hearbeat, even if it meant swapping the panel in myself.

Battery life isn't a huge deal imo. I wasn't aware of the 4Ks having a big response delay though.

Liquid metal does need a level of contact usually requiring thermal pad adjustment for the best results.

I believe there does exist an older 17" 1440p 120hz panel used in old alienwares. Dunno if the PB51 supports it though.

Due to the tolerances it's best to do a fit.
