Anyone using the Obsidian Fan Control / Updater software?
Looks really nice... I wondering if any free alternatives compare. Will the updater make updates way easier?
(I bought from HID Evolution if that matters).
I'm using the free Fan Control, which just have auto and 100%.
I'm wondering if throwing it on 100% every time I do a render (5 minutes 10 times a day) will wear the fans out? Does joking them suddenly to 100% break them more than gradually ramping up would?
-
If you have your laptop setup and undervolted and repasted correctly then you can manage without controlling the fans at all. They ramp up just after 65C by default. So you can leave them on auto and your system will be fine. FN+1 will cool a little better but it is a little louder.
Unless you have a mega overclock, then FN+1 is not always needed. -
If you have c-states enabled it'll clock down to 800ish mhz when not loaded.

Aside of not having the mounting holes, is the BOE NV156FHM-N4J compatible with the laptop? The interface is the same (eDP 40 pins), but panelook says the interface brand is different.

Hey guys, sometimes when I boot up my computer, my CPU core clock reads -3600, which means it stays at stock settings for no particular reason. This shows on both Clevo control center and XTU.
I didn't change anything and usually when I reboot the computer, the issue disappears. But it's showing this every now and then.
Anyone knows why ? Or how to fix this ?
Thank you very much.
P.S : My previous audio issue has been sent to PC Specialist, I'm waiting for them to answer. So far they advised me to uninstall the USB Root Hub drivers so we'll see how that goes..
EDIT : Weird thing is, the correct CPU core clock value is shown in the Task manager, but neither in CCC or XTU.Attached Files:

Do you have Windows power setting on high performance?
-
-
No it should be so thats fine

Use something like CPU-Z or hwinfo to look at clock speeds.
-
Also, is there any right-angle adapter for the power input? I want to put the laptop on a stand and am afraid of this power-cable bending where it inputs. -

5-10 mins per day rendering is not an issue. No right angles from my memory, perhaps put something in to support the cable a bit?

Everything mechanical has some sort of life span so it will cause faster wearing.

Hey guys. I just installed a 9900k to upgrade the 8700 it had previously. Problem is it doesn't seem to want to start up.
The keyboard lights up etc but no video feed, no audio, and it shuts itself off momentarily.
Does the board support 9900k? -

Indeed, BIOS files tend to be given out on request so you get the right file for you.

Yeah the 12v fans are not known for being overly quiet.

That's the difference between balancing a system for overall performance and focusing on one part.
-
For sure. It always depends on what you use the machine for and what makes sense.

Some times people do get tunnel vision on the bit they are working on though.

When you think trouble goes away it keeps coming back..
Do you guys know why or should I say how can I fix a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bsod occuring randomly ?
Sometimes I'm just chatting on Facebook or something and my computer just bsod for no reason.
I've been checking my RAM, both HDDs and SSDs, CPU, XTU settings, everything seems to be fine. Even reinstalled Windows 10.
It just keeps happening. WhoCrashed says it has something to do with ntoskrnl.exe
If you guys have any tips on that.. ping me !
Apologies for coming here every two days and complaining about something.

Too much undervolting?
Are all drivers up to date?
Run memtest....
Set your cpu settings etc save for Some time and see If it happend again0rpheu5_ likes this. -

Going to try with a little bit less undervolting then.
I was stable for some time at -0.135V, right now I'm at -0.125V.
Gonna ramp this up a little bit and tell you if it happens again ! Went for -0.110V.
Yes everything is up to date and I've performed a memtest a few days ago, everything was fine.
Thank you guysAttached Files:

Remember it's the whole curve you lower so while that much less at load might be ok, you get weird edge cases of low voltage boosting ti high etc where just for a moment it drops below the needed voltage and crashes.

You undervolt might be stable for NON-AVX workloads, but not for ones using AVX. It'll either need more voltage or an AVX offset.

I am running my fans set to 50%, 4.7Ghz with a -0.205 undervolt. My CPU runs 64C. My GTX1080 does run a little warmer due to the slow fan speeds, but still 80C at 1,886Mhz is plenty good! And this is a really quiet setup. I can actually game on just the laptop speakers in my Lazboy recliner and I can hear everything just fine!
This is very impressive that you can tune such performance out of a machine, and it is fairly quiet! -
-
I'm also thinking of buying a 15.6" USB monitor, and clipping it above my laptop, something like this, but with only a single extra monitor above the laptop.
Would 1.42lbs be too heavy, and wear out the screen / hinges? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It is going to be extra load. You might want to think about only opening the lid with two hands either side and being careful if transported.
-
So my programmer, 1,8V adapter, SOIC 8 clip, and test wires will be here Monday. I am going to crank up the TDP on this GTX1080.

Good luck

but maybe rather than doing this, it just makes more sense to put my laptop on one of these
I'm just so worried about the cable bending in the back, and can't think of an elegant way around that. -

I don't get why my fans are so loud. 20% load (just booting Minecraft, not even playing, just the load screen) and fans are winding up very annoyingly. Is that normal?
-
Is the fps capped to 60 at the menu screen? Some games have a tendency to run uncapped fps in such instances, causing gpu to heat up.
-
Hmmm, can't find any settings for that. I'm seeing the GPU hit 100%. I've got a GTX 1060, and an 8700k with 64gb DDR4.
Maybe I should enable some kind of GPU throttle? -
It's an easy fix, either through the nvidia control panel -> cap fps. Or, download nvinspector, go to profiles, find Minecraft and set an fps cap.

Menu screens are notorious offenders for super high loads.
