This Lenovo Y50 I'm using came with 4 pieces of foam cut specifically for this purpose--just adhered to the case. Double stick tape or the removable double stick poster adhesive from 3M works well.

Use little pieces, just enough to fill the gap, dont cover the whole surface area as that would trap heat.

I tried just putting the spacer under the SSD and so far it is working fine (installing Win 8 via USB right now) but it is exceptionally hot on the keyboard side where the SSD is located.

Perhaps I will try putting a piece of foam under there.

Should be fine. My Samsung SSD came with a thin foam pad with a sticky side to adhere to the drive in just such a situation.

Foam is not usually electrically conductive, make sure it's cut cleanly since you don't want bits in the heatsink.

I'm hearing a slight vibrating noise by the SSD that is not going away. It's very mild but more noticeable as I put my ear close to the keyboard.

    Is this unusual?

Seems to only occur after gaming for a bit.

I just turned the computer on after having it off for 24 hours and so far I hear nothing.

If I hear it again I'll post back.

Could be vrm "vibrating" which would be a little annoying but not a sign of damage.

Hey mattstermh, the W110ER has Windows 8/8.1 support. I have two and one of them is running Windows 8.1, I got the drivers at Sager's Support site:

So the NP6110 you sold has the 750GB Hybrid HDD mentioned in your sig. and buyer needs more storage? I have a Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive in my W110ER. Money wise, if I was going with the largest SD card which is 128GB and around $100+/- for extra storage, I would go with a 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive, I got mine brand new for around $85 a couple months back....

Hi, people :) have one question….. help please, sometimes, once in two weeks,or even less, when I turn the laptop, when loading windows, picture on the screen begin to blinks and something like image distortion. When I open \ close the lid i see like interference. When the screen is in the locked position everything is ok. I took off the battery, specifically checked and problem recurs very rarely. Arises by itself. And I noticed, only happens when I’m working from the charger. Do not know what it could be? maybe defect of the lcd or cable?

Sounds like might be a loose connector on the screen. Open it up and give it the wiggle test.

i had to reinstall windows 8.1 because a windows update gave me a blue screen in the middle of updating. and now i completely forgot how i'm supposed to get synaptics drivers that allow me to remove these annoying edgeswipe options. latest drivers don't work, not digitally signed, the ones right before it don't have the option i want. and yet i see a lot of much older versions that do have that option...just, not on this machine. i know i found something that worked last time, i just don't remember what...

I'm currently studying abroad and at the moment do not have access to a screwdriver.

I am noticing that something is sliding around inside the computer. Not sure what it could be.

You don't need a screwdriver to open the back of the NP6110. Just remove the battery and you can slide the back panel off and check it out for yourself.

Hopefully it's not a dead body.

Opened it up to find a couple of these heatsink squares were loose. I removed both on the right. uploadfromtaptalk1404796777229.jpg

    Will this be problematic?

This shouldn't be a problem. Those additional heat-sinks were probably applied by your laptop vendor (at an additional charge). They aren't needed. If you applied them yourself, you could simply re-apply them (after cleaning the area and the sink).

Could you link to which part you ordered from Laptopscreen.com exactly? I'm going to give this a go but I want to make sure I get the right cable and part.

I think the screen you got would be this one LP116WH4-SLN2 https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/LP116WH4(SL)(N2)/ but I can't decide which extension cable is the right one. They list two LVDS cables but I can not distinguish between them.

Replied to your PM but yes the LP116WH4(SL)(N2) is the right part and the cable is the shorter one, they have one for 8.9"-15.6" and another for 17.3" laptops.

Find the service manual, usually it's exposed by taking the top part of the chassis off where the keyboard rests.

I just got myself a w110er :D. Quite a little beast I must say!! :thumbsup:However, the temperatures were quite high when I played some games. I understand that with the specs it's holding, the temp were supposed to be a little higher than some other bigger size laptops, but still, 80oC (plus 1 or 2) would still consider to be pretty high right?? Any suggestions on which thermal grease/paste should I apply on both the cpu and gpu? (please pardon my English). Thanks.

Low to mid 80's is very normal for this laptop on load - only because there's so much power packed into such a small form factor that there's not much room for cooling beyond what is absolutely necessary. I recommend getting a notepad cooler, it can make a significant difference for this little beast. If you want to change the tim, I use MX-4 most of the time now - it's got good heat conductivity and at the same time it's relatively easy to apply - not too tacky as some are.. but as I said, if you're running in the 80's that's to be expected with this machine. Enjoy :)

    Yes, just kidding....

Still looking for the 10C drop reported in some of the re-paste threads not related to dust buildup. I might see 2 C but using built in sensor for that...

My old Asus UL30vt may have a heat pipe or CPU problem as re-paste and cleaning makes no difference so now UV CPU. Stressing laptop builds heat until protection kicks in with fan on high.

It depends a lot on the quality and age of the original paste. I would say the heatsink too for the Asus.

Which successor to the CLEVO W110ER?

Sorry I didn't re-read the whole thread, and I hope I am not too out of topic. But the Eurocom Configure Model link, which IIRC was until recently Eurocom's customizable W110ER, is now 404-ed, as is the whole eurocom.com site.

I think this form factor, 11.6in screen with quad-core i7, 2 SODIMM (hence up to 16GB now and probably 32GB later when 8GB sticks get available and affordable), is very good and deserves to be updated, particularly with an mSATA or M2 slot, a full HD screen (1920×1080).

The 13 inch 7338 really took over this mantle. 250 grams and a slight screen space increase give a tremendous boost to performance and the extra screen size makes gaming more pleasant.

The two would kind of compete and the 11 inch would have to compete with more mainstream models.

It is a shame for some I do understand but I can really see why they moved away from something quite so small.

The W110er really was perfect for my 8 month trip to Asia but for any other situation can't see a need for it, 13" is a more useful form factor for day today use. Have people seem the 13" Alienware?

Forget the 13.3" Alienware. If you want a 13.3", go for the Sager NP7338 or the Razer if you have the cash.

I do hope a 11.6" comes out again in the future though (one with a decent GPU, meaning not a stupid Chromebook or *gag* Apple). Perhaps in a year or two with 14nm architecture someone will put one out.. hopefully with a high quality 1920x1080 screen and whatever the current GPU is at the time.. which makes me wonder what comes after the NVidia 900 series.. are they going to move on to NVidia 1000 series? I'm sure a NVidia 1080 will raise some eyebrows (but only one eyebrow per person of course.. yeah).
