Just wondering are you talking about chips on the Screen Circuit board or the Motherboard? I'm replacing the entire screen with a new factory one to see if that works. Soldering chips on the circuit board is beyond my knowledge unless I had the right tools and really good instruction.

There is a README file with step by step instructions included in every mod.

The 7408 that is resposible for switching the backlight LED is on the motherboard.

Yea I figured that. It would have to be fixed by someone else if that ends up being the case. Unless I could find some really good instructions on how to replace it.

Hey guys, my W110ER just died :( so I have some parts I can send to anyone who needs them.

    • Battery - 2 years old but I used it plugged in 95% of the time, so it's basically in the same condition I got it in.
    • Keyboard - English (after market, needed to replace original)
    • Chager (after market, PWR+ brand)
    • 128GB SanDisk SATA III 6.0Gb/s SSD (490 MB/s Read & 350 MB/s Write)
    • Anything else you can salvage from the rest of the motherboard/body

I'm not really looking to make a profit off this, I just don't want to have potentially useful components gathering dust in my closet, so if you want to propose a reasonable price I'd be happy to send you whatever you need.

Note on how it died, in case that tells you what might be usable in the motherboard/body: I had the battery taken out (foolishly) and it suddenly lost power. Now it won't turn on. Power light turns on and fan turns on, but screen does not light & disk light does not blink. Fan can still be controlled using the Prema Bios hotkey, but besides that, the laptop exhibits no sign of life.

You can email me, berban at aol dot com

Not to be a ghoul at someone else's misfortune; but if you do part it out, I would be interested in the upper and lower base plastics housings. I have to rebuild the hinge-mounts in the base.

Thanks Prema, I tried all the things you mentioned on that link, unfortunately with no success:

    • Resetting CMOS battery
    • Holding Fn+b, and F2 during boot
    • Removing SSD
I could not try removing the ram because I only have one module. I don't trust myself to remove the GPU or any other component. Still puzzling to me that your Fn+1 hotkey works, but I've given up at this point. I guess if you think it can be salvaged you are welcome to have it to poke around with...

Don't worry about being a ghoul haha, it was my offer. I'm not really sure what you mean by that though, can what you are asking for be separated from the other parts?

Thats a shame dude, mine has also gone U/S. Power on causes the power led to flash twice and does not power up, no post etc, does it with bat or mains. So have ordered a W230SS.

New screen doesn't work same problem no back light. So I'm sure its a fuse on the motherboard. Not so sure what I'm gonna do from here. Probably just sell for parts I dont see any way I can fix the motherboard I'm not a technician and taking it to a computer shop may cost more than the laptop is worth.

Already told you what it is, cost 2 bucks plus shipping. Take that chip to a shop/friend with heatgun along with the mobo and its done in 10 seconds.

My only two options would be a computer repair shop. Or take it apart myself. I will have to call around and ask pricing on replacing this chip on the mobo. Depends on how much they would charge for it.

Also I dont know if its the lack of back light or using a flashlight from behind to see the screen but the screen has some artifacts on it when I light it from behind. So even though I could spent money to get it fixed it may be more than just the back light. LDVS cable could also be messed up. Its a shame this was the last upgrade I wanted to do and it was a fail. I have to have an IPS screen cause I do graphic work and I need the viewing angles on the screen.

I may try and take it apart myself I have a heat gun. I'm afraid I would mess it up worse.

That chip only controls the backlight, so can't really make it worse by switching it out.

Ya I dont know I think at this point taking apart the laptop and trying to replace this chip or spending the money at a computer repair shop isnt something I want to do. Ive used up all my patience on this laptop. Just want to sell it for whatever its worth and get something newer. It runs just fine with an external monitor. Im taking the ram and hdd out and just put it up on ebay or something tomorrow. The body is in great condition and besides the screen it functions fine. No os provided.

Comes with original box, power brick and cables, instructions, driver cd, battery and laptop.

I'll give anyone in this thread with a reasonable offer first shot at buying it. I will make an ebay sale for you or a thread in the notebook for sale forum. Just pm me. I have 262 100% ebay rating.

You might have bought the wrong LDVS cable. I will show you a picture of mine which has been proven to work perfectly.

I bought the one everyone else bought from laptop screens. At any rate it was a bust and I plan on just selling/getting rid of this clevo looking at the W230SS.

Well the back light is the only thing that no longer works really.. Hey your Power Notebooks in Minden right. I live in Reno, NV (Stead). Ever do any Clevo Repair. ;) I'm looking at the NP7338 on your website.

At Any rate its set to go up on Ebay at 2 pm today. I'll link it when it goes live. I'm letting it go at 99c starting auction no reserve. Maybe someone wants to pick it up as a project. It still runs fine with an external monitor as a screen.

I had the whole W110ER project as an idea with the IPS screen cause I do Graphic Work. But in the end the final piece of the puzzle broke ooh well.

OK auction is live good luck maybe if your a good bid sniper you may get it for a good price. And if your clever enough you may be able to fix it. :) Could also make a great media center or just power computer hooked to a monitor.

Also could be a great donor laptop for parts so very hard to find parts for the W110ER anymore. The Body is in excellent condition. Comes with battery, 120w charger, laptop, box, instructions, and driver CD.

    No Ram, HDD, or OS.

    Any questions just ask.

Johnny9Ball. I am trying to follow your thread before I would consider a bid on your laptop

On November 15, you started by saying you got a "showroom condition" Sager Clevo W110ER NP6110 which typically goes for $500-$900 on Ebay.
It ran perfectly according to your post then. You then wanted to mod it to do an IPS Screen Replacement. Then said you needed to replace the LVDS cable.
Then you got the cable and the screen around the beginning of December, and it started smoking behind the LCD. The LDVS cable burned up.
Then Prema told you what further mods needed done to make this work, specifically the 7408 that is responsible for switching the backlight LED on the motherboard.

You acknowledged that on December 5th that you figured that. Then out of nowhere on December 7th you say the new screen doesn't work so you think it's a fuse on the motherboard.

Prema tells you it's the chip, again on the 7th, not a fuse. A 10 second fix. You've also got a burned out LDVS cable.

Then on Ebay you have posted that you think it's a fuse. And your bidder bid 3x in a row jacking up his own bid from .99 to $55.55. That's a 'shilling' sign right there.

Just what in the world are you up to when Prema told you what it is, and yet you're telling people on Ebay what you know it's not! And is that a shill bidder??!!

Meaker made it clear it probably took out the LVDS chip and something else on the MOBO.

Your listing reads "I was told the Back light issue may be a fuse on the motherboard that can be replaced. If your smart enough you may be able to easily repair it. I can give no guarantee on this it all depends on your technical skill level. This could be a fun project Laptop."- Prema didn't tell you that, no one here told you that, you told us that.

So what is the problem exactly? Why does your listing pass this off as a fuse issue when you have clearly been told it isn't one?

First off I dont shill bid on eBay You or eBay can check any of the bidders backgrounds you want on the eBay sale.

Second I may call it a fuse but I'm not a technician and I dont know the technical term. I was reading here (link below) and they were talking about the lcd led back light and called the broken part a fuse. I never guarantee that replacing it will get it fixed just an educated guess.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/613996-no-backlight-led-screen.html

Third I never said I wanted to replace the LDVS cable I got an LDVS extension cable for the new IPS screen. Which aparently either that or the new IPS screen did not work as you can see in my previous post a couple pages back. And the Extension cable did melt I posted a picture. I tried a new screen same problem so its likely something on the mother board. Prema didn't call the chip anything so I just called it a fuse cause that's what I read in the other thread I dont know the term for it. Chip/Fuse I apologize if I called it something wrong.

"Then Prema told you what further mods needed done to make this work,"

This is incorrect the origional screen back light stopped working and prema was suggesting a possible fix. He was not telling me how to fix the mod with the ips screen.

Fourth ONE Bidder did not go from 99c to $55 Someone bid 99c and another bidder bid it up to $55 and I fully expect since its a 7 day auction you will see more bids. There is two bidders there look at the bidding history. A bidder cannot up his bid automatically on ebay he can only raise his maximum bid ammount which will automatically bid up to that amount if someone else bids. Someone originally bid 99c and someone else then bid up to $55 and later someone else will probably bid higher.

Fifth that's not a burned out LDVS cable. That's an LDVS Extension cable that failed.

Sixth other people are guessing also like Meaker as to whats wrong it may be fixable it may be hard to fix I only give an educated guess with no guarantee to what the specific problem is. I'm sure someone would be able to fix it if they are skilled enough. I only offer some suggestions as to the back light problem if someone wants to attempt to fix it after they buy the laptop. I am simply suggesting a possible fix and everyone who has weighed in on a fix are also guessing. The only way to find out what is exactly wrong is to do some testing and repairs thats up to the buyer. I am not going to add all the guesses of whats wrong to the ebay sale. I started it at 99c no reserve so whatever someone is willing to pay for it is what its worth to them.

If there is anymore questions please ask.

They always use such thin wire in those things, should be ok for this machine's level of draw at least though.

This will be fine while the system is doing mundane tasks on the desktop and such, but if you try and game you're likely to trip an over current protection switch in the battery. 4.5A is a fair amount at 19V (85W) and the Clevo can run off of a 90W brick, but it's still best you don't game on it. As is, gaming battery life is pretty poo anyway and it's not often you need to game when a socket isn't near by.

Depending on what is in it that's a pretty fair offer, however if it's a perfect fit it may still be worth that to you as you would be spending more to get a modern equivalent.

Recently I've been having quite a few issues with my W110ER randomly turning off during gaming.
Occasionally I also get "BEEPING" happening prior to the notebook losing power , which I assume is a overheating warning but not sure as does not appear to be mentioned in the user manual.

Oddly my temperatures do not seem that bad and I've been heavily monitoring them recently to try to see what is going on and it is also happening with temperatures only in the mid/high 60's.

Case in point the following screenshot was taken a few moments before it lost power/turned off:

    Specification wise I have:

    i5 3210m
    1x8gb DDR3
    120gb SSD
    90Watt Power Supply.

I also use the regular Prema mod BIOS and have tried disabling turbo just in case that was a problem.

I am kind of stumped. I was thinking maybe I could try a 120w power supply as the problem seems to occur when both the CPU and GPU are stressed heavily at the same time.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to solve this?

My W11oER was making a sort of high-pitched repetitive noise which sounded like it was coming from the HDD. This wouldn't happen until a while after turning it on; maybe an hour or more. The computer seemed to be working fine, though.

After cloning/replacing the HDD, the problem persists, which I certainly hope indicates the problem isn't with the hard drive. But I'm not sure what to do now. Is it a cooling issue?

EDIT: A few times, I've booted from the HDD via USB, and I let it run for a while with a couple different programs. Each time, the sound has not started again until the drive is reinserted into the 6110 for a while.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this????

You should definitely try the 120W power supply.

I suppose opening it and checking for dust would also be worth it, although I'm guessing that you've done this since the damn thing takes three seconds to open up anyway.

That's a fantastic looking benchmark screenshot BTW.

    Thank you for the reply.
I had already completely cleaned out the laptop including disassembling the fan to ensure it is as clean as possible and have also re-applied new thermal paste (CooLaboratory Liquid Ultra) which has help drop my temperatures a fair bit which is always good but still as far as I can tell the problem is definitely not related to over-heating.

I am really struggling trying to locate a good 120W power supply that I can actually buy...
The couple I have found available to purchase are awful generic Chinese supplies that while they say they are 120W after looking closer they are unsuitable as they are really rated at 90W with up to 120W.

Anyone have any suggestions of where I can actually buy one and which tips should I be looking for?

Attached is the a photo of the one XOTICPC gave me when I ordered from there. It's worked fine for me over the past two years.

Also, check on ebay for Toshiba and Gateway supplies. I am using a Toshiba supply and a Gateway supply, plus an aftermarket supply. All work well. The Toshiba and Gateway are rated at 120W, while the aftermarket is rated at 160W (it's HUGE!).

Most all laptop supplies are 19V these days (some 19.5). As long as the barrel plug fits, you are golden.

A good idea when checking is to run the UL number, as you can see when you run the UL number you get the right company name with the supply from Xotic.

Thank you so much for this info.
I got myself a genuine Toshiba 120W supply which fits the plug perfectly.

However all seemed after a long extend stress test however after another 8 hours the same thing happened again with the laptop just instantly switching off.
Last logged GPU temperature was 58C and 65C on the CPU so it can not be an overheating issue.

I have run Memtest on the ram which has also ruled the ram out and CPU alone stress testing seems totally fine as well.
I am really stumped now. What is causing this?

Unfortunately it seems that I have a faulty Nvidia 650m GPU.

The slightest use of it for more than a few moments now causes the laptop to instantly turn off.
For now I have disabled it via the device manager in windows (though it would be better if there was a way to disable it at the BIOS/Hardware level) and I seem to be running fine apart from having to suffer the performance drop of only being able to use the integrated HD4000 graphics.

I've contacted the place I originally got my W110ER from to see if they can help, however my 2 year warranty may or may not have expired as it is only valid for a couple more days if they go from the date I received it instead of the date from which it was ordered several weeks before hand.

Your warranty should start from the day the item was shipped to you (hopefully from the day you received it, but perhaps not), as that is the day you officially took possession of it. Check with the seller to verify.

It was shipped to me on the 11th of March and I received it the next day on the 12th March, so I should just be covered. I sent their support a mail on the 7th but have not yet heard back and just sent another one. Hopefully they get back to me later today and something can get sorted, but I doubt it will be that easy.

OK. Here is a recording of the sound... for some reason it's not working on Google Drive; sorry about that. It won't let me upload it here either. The drives do not make this noise when I plug them in externally. Hence I believe the problem is with my computer. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this???

Anyone have any issues after a recent nVidia update? Just yesterday (after updating GeForce Experience...possibly drivers too) I no longer get anywhere beyond the boot/bios splash. The screen stays on but no image, same on external monitor.

My keyboard is failing--if you have it, I'd be interested. Going to have to buy something soon.
