Awesome, see how simple it is to work on this machine? +rep for the video. I was considering doing something like that but no need.
Should we ease into it? Perhaps start with 100W, then 110W then 120W? I mean if I'm gaming, I'm ok if it's a slow charge, but I also don't want it to charge too quickly when idle or off. +rep (edit: crap, gotta wait 24 hrs, just used last rep on Crylo)

What does the BIOS power limit do?
The charging is controlled mainly by the hardware circuitry, if anything the bios would only start or stop it.
I think the MAX wattage charge rate is the hardware and bios can only regulate that rate, i dont think it can be "upped to be higher". In relation to charging maybe BIOS can only regulate 'useing duty cycle' the charging rate, but again it can not increase it.
I think that bios limit in question is for motherboard power consumption, which is things like ram voltage and cpu voltage.
I dont know too much about this.
can anyone give some feed back who would know what this undocumented feature could be for? -
I made a 4 second video showing the amount of movement my drive is allowed when it is installed. I don't have a calipers handy but I'm fairly certain we're talking about more than the 1.5mm difference between the 830 and other taller drives. Again, I'm not exactly worried about this, its fairly secure and as an SSD it really doesn't have to worry much about moving around a little. I just think its odd and that maybe I did something wrong...?
Edit: BTW, I can confirm that the case I mentioned works wonderfully with the W110ER. Its a little snug but not too bad and it has room to hold the massive 120w adapter as well as my M570 trackball with a side pocket to spare. Highly recommended.
-
I would put something beneath that SSD, even double stick tape and some corrugated cardboard. The problem with that kind of movement is that it puts stress at the connector. I don't think it's a huge problem, but if you move it a lot and its subjected to a lot of vibration it might cause an issue.
-
I will do that. If I come up with an especially nice looking/working shim I'll be sure to share.
Edit: BTW, this is my primary "review" in the thread I started on The Tech Report. -
Do you think it would be efficient to add some copper heatspreader to the cpu heatsink, what would be the loss/gain? thank you
-
I intend on doing just that sometime soon. Based on past mods I've done, it's helped. Get some extra airflow over it if possible and it should help quite a bit more.
-
Like I've said before... Temps are perfectly fine on this thing, but if some of you guys want to insist:
I found this at my local officemax store, looks cool, very small, cheap ($19 USD), aluminum, nice design, 2 fans well located, small and portable... designed for 7" to 12" netbooks... There are MANY of these over here...
Perhaps you could find one of these at a store like this. -

Anyone have recommendations for some HDMI monitors I can use with this for home?
I can go to newegg or amazon to find 100s of products, but I would like the experts' recommendations. (Thanks for the Zalman cooler suggestion by the way!)
PS, how are acer monitors? Is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009314 ok?
or this one..: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009306 -
Thanks for your replies, and a special thank to HTwingnut for his review !
Cheers !

does anyone know if clevo will be releasing any 13.3 inch with similar specs? I feel like i'm going to buy this, and once i do, they will announce it. lol
-
i think now, there wont be any more surprises or any new up and coming laptop lines like a 13.3 inch.
basically at this point, we are just waiting for ivy bridge dual cores to come out so samsung and asus can finally hopefully release a 14 inch gt 650m i5 laptop. -
Coming to the end of my "average usage" battery life test. Everything on default "balanced" power profile. Just general web browsing/killing time... I've got 11% battery left after 3 hours and 15 minutes.
-
Yep, sounds about right. ~3.5 hours to 5%. Thanks for your feedback!
-
unfortunately forgot to call back to xoticpc to "confirm" my order..... probably have to wait 5 days longer than usual, THIS IS KILLING ME
-
Drfish, how are your temps?
-
Hey, i just cancelled my order.
Those A$$Holes at eurocom promised me to ship next week on friday, now they call me back and say due to 'production issues' they are pushing back the order 1-2 weeks..
does that even mean? -
If you has asked around it seems nine out of ten people would tell you not to go with Eurocom...
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Give us a call tomorrow during business hours of 9-5:30 Central. We like to do a verbal confirmation just to make sure we have your specs right before we send it off to production. -
do you have much of a choice? other european vendors?
-
Sure you have a choice.

If you guys are talking about EuroCom.com, they are NOT European, they are Canadian.
-
Yes i know, you ordered mainly because of the CPU option at eurocom if i remember right?

During my general use/killing time battery test run they were around 60-65, its was nearly idle after all. When I had the GT650 nearly maxed out playing Minecraft with the shader mods the CPU was around 10% and temps were around 75 on both chips. This is with the laptop on my lap but the intake over the side of my right leg.
BTW, I had a great experience with RJTech and my barebones order. I didn't get fast shipping but if I had I would have been one of the first to get mine (in fact it appears I was anyway). Mine shipped last Wednesday so I could have been using it for over a week already. I highly recommend them and their other reviews around the web are positive too. They were on top of things when they told me a 1103 wouldn't work and they refunded me quickly when I told them to drop the wifi completely. When I called them concerned about mounting my hard drive they told me about the piece I had overlooking tucked in with the driver CD, a real person picked up my call nearly instantly too and the same guy knew the answer off the top of his head. Prices were fair, I'm happy, will be considering using them for work systems instead of NewEgg so that's high praise from me. -
Hmm, CPU - Turbo Boost not possible with active GT650M.
So when gaming you're capped at 2,1Ghz... -
Their tested CPU (3612QM) maxed at 96c and GPU at 93c with 24c ambient temp and it sucked 100W with disabled turbo...?!
-
Yep, i thought immediately that's even worse than the 3610
Funny... -
Did they say what Paste they used?
It also doesn't surprise me. With all the Boost features in modern CPUs and GPUs I'd expect that under high demand it is going to push the edge of the cooling system. I was more interested to see how it did at idle on the battery. My hope was that Intel was selecting their most efficient and coolest running CPUs for the 3612QM and it would do better at low load. -
99 pages of text on the wall, 99 pages of text...
sorry I had to
-
Hey Prema, I really hope you can do something with the bios to perhaps (not sure if its possible) make the fan blow faster or something to keep these temps down.
I have a bunch of heat sinks and my handy dandy Artic Silver 5 to play with, and hopefully, it'll help the machine stay a bit cooler.
*Side note, for those of you who might be using this machine for school (browsing the web, typing stuff up, not paying attention to the teacher...), or just general stuff, a linux variant might help a bit. I think i might be able to scale the cpu down much much further, and perhaps lower the temps. Since linux isn't as demanding on resources...lets just say we might get lucky. If it does work out, i might just image the computer and share my system with you guys
-
My predictions about the temps on a 35w cpu were accurate, the temps are about the same.
I don't think this will be different with the 35w ivy dual cores.
Great to see these reviews with a 3612qm.
It is me or it seems that these processors are underperforming under this machine? The cpu scores of 3dmark 06 don't seem right.. Don't get me wrong this offers GREAT performance for such a small size, but these processors are a little bit more powerful. -
A bit surprising heatsink system employed. It was enough to give two parallel heatpipes from the CPU, by the GPU, to the radiator.
-
It sounds a bit warm now but with a modified bios and maybe a heatsink mod down the line I am not worried about temps long term
-
Does it seem like are any advantages to the 3612QM at all right now? If I ordered a CPU that's slower and more expensive with no advantages at all, that would just seem silly.
-
You guys are all funny, I am talking in reference to the heat being dissipated in such a small form factor,.
You all think if you change the heat paste it will help you? or you think if you add a few more pecies of copper it will help you? Also, you think if the fan can be speed up more (as if it’s not already running at max) it will help you.
Guys your all being delusional, things is a small 11.6" laptop not much bigger than a heater i would use in the winter time. Not much more different then my heater, they both draw 100Watts!!!
I am kind of happy i went with eurocom, because they D!CKED me around, and now I canceled my order. And in the time between I got to see how hot this thing runs and its WAAAYYYYY too hot. I know Intel rates the cpu for 105C but you’re kidding me, this is reaching into the mid 90's!! no way, I’m not having that, mainly because the mother board capacitors are not rated that high, nor are the resistors or any other components on the motherboard.
Anyway, I’m sure there will be a 14" variance from Clevo, and if history tells us something, it’s that history will repeat itself, (just like eurocom D!CKING people around) and Clevo will make a 14" with IVY cpu and this time GDDR5 690M (i wish). -
It's TDP is lower if that helps.. exactly 35W vs the 3610QM 45W
-
That might not matter if the system is imposing strict limits on both CPUs.
-
Right now it looks like the Turbo is disabled on 3612QM while 650M is used...but on 3610+ the Turbo still works...
-
From everything reported so far it looks like with both the CPU and GPU having boost features that the 3612QM will still reach the same max temps as both of them will boost underload to take full advantage of the cooling system.
The one area the 3612QM may still have a advantage is battery life. IF it has been binned by intel to be the most efficient(able to run at lower VID) it may have a longer idle battery life during low demand usage. The 3610QM guys have been reporting ~4hr battery life and I'm hoping the 3612QM guys will get back to us with a better low usage (Internet in class/word processing) battery life. -
Refused delivery on my order. I was able to order the Alienware M14x with the same specs and the ddr5 version of the graphics card for $554 through AAFES (military exchange online). Message me for details if you're curious.
$554!!!!!!!!!!!! -
You have less than 5 posts, so you can't receive PMs. I'm curious though, how'd you do it? I thought the discount was 25%.
-
Damn, I can't PM you.. But how?!
-
If you're military or military dependent, dell has a store through this AAFES site. They're having a 25% mothers day deal, but you can remove the office software for $200 less. For $711, you can upgrade the screen to 900p and the graphics card to 2gb. Buying at $711 saves you $662! I'm really excited, haha.
-
Yeah, otherwise M14x is ~ $1300. I'd probably buy it for $711, but not for $1300!
-
OH hell no! Being $200 less than the Clevo build, I think I got a sweet deal. $400 less with same specs (still with better graphics card). Would never spend $1300 either.
-
Ya, told ya all ... wait for that 14"
